Was August Awesome? [giveaway]
*******************************This giveaway ended Sept. 1, 2011 at 10:30 EST. Stay tuned for the next one!
At the beginning of this month, I posted a list of 10 Ways to Make August Awesome. Itโs always fun to have some monthly motivation and goals, so Iโll probably do similar lists for each month ๐
Bellaโs August in a snapshot:
Hereโs what was on there and how I did with my own personal list:
1. Have something to look forward to. For me, it was Healthy Living Summit – just as amazing as I anticipated it to be. The best part? Getting the Pilot away from work for a weekend so he could join me ๐
2. Create a goal for the month. First my goal was to practice more yoga, but it just didnโt happen. I just feel awkward and uncomfortable, especially since I canโt rock out handstands or arm balances right now, so I didnโt practice as much as I would have liked. [Looking back, itโs such a lame excuse. If I want to do it, I should do it, thatโs all there is to it] Instead, I began to work on another goal that may come into fruition, but Iโm superstitious and wonโt post about it until all is bueno ๐
3. Plan a dinner party. Done and done! Now that our house has been โwarmedโ and 99.9% of our stuff is unpacked, we can start to have frequent smaller dinner parties like we used to. Iโm so excited ๐
4. Go through your summer clothes and determine which ones youโd like to get rid of before storing the rest for fall and winter. I actually did this one before I posted this list, and my closet feels SO good! Bonus: room for new clothes! Heh heh.
5. Go for a swim! This didnโt happen. I thought it would motivate me to do it, but nope. Iโm a floater, not a swimmer ๐
6. Pick up a new cookbook to try this month, or borrow one from a friend. This was exciting because I unpacked all of my cookbooks, including 3 new ones that I didnโt get to use before we moved from Valdosta. I canโt wait to bust into them!
[We have another shelf full of cookbooks, too. Forgotten treasures!!]
7. Sign up for a fitness event with a friend. I havenโt done this one yet, but am seriously considering the spring half marathon here in Tucson. I was supposed to do it this past year, but didnโt since I went to LA instead for Gatorade. This one will be about 12 weeks after the baby is born, so Iโll walk/run it, but really want to add some running back into my routine. I miss the โex boyfriendโ โ itโs funny how you miss things when you canโt do them ๐ I ran a little first trimester, but it felt weird after a while so I stopped.
8. Scope out some new jeans for fall. This one happens on an almost daily basis. My pick for fall:
Love the cut, wash, length, everything ๐
9. Go out for a girls night ๐ Iโm lucky to be surrounded by girls in the squadron who always want to hang out-ย we did quite a few dinners and movie nights ๐
10. Eat a pizookie. This one actually didnโt happen! The Pilot and I were planning a pizookie date, and then he had to work late that night and we just didnโt go. I did have fondue this month, though ๐
So was your August Awesome?
Hereโs one more way for that to happen:
You see, I bought a boatload of macaroon supplies for HLS and didnโt have time to make them before our trip.
I love almonds, but I donโt think I need 3 lbs ๐
So Iโd love to make a custom batch of macaroons for a reader- any flavor: Meyer lemon lavender, blonde, chocolate, mocha, chocolate almond butter, super roon [Of course, other things may sneak their way into the package, too]

I’m loving your family posts! ๐ I’d love to see more quick/easy dinner recipes
I’d love to see anything about healthy eating habits versus disordered eating. So contraversial right now –heard of orthorexia or compulsive eating disorder? Do you know anyone that might do a focus on post?
Hey Lady! I love your blog, and I have to say that I really have been lovin the family posts! It is neat to get all excited about what is happening with you guys! I can’t wait for the little nugget who now has a name to arrive!
Would love some home decorating tips! I loved the before and afters (especially of the easter egg) and since we’re closing on a home tomorrow (eek!!) lots of pointers are needed!!! Yay giveaways!!!
Love the jeans though J Brand never fits me right. grrrrr.
Hi Gina! Love your blog. My August highlights include spending lots of time with my mom. We live a few hours apart, so hanging out two weekends in a row isn’t always possible, but wonderful when it happens!
Would love to win some macaroons! I am loving all the family posts โ please keep them coming!!
LOve all the new recipes and the workout ideas/routines!
It’s been great watching you stay active during your preganancy. i agree, running feels weird. I swapped it out for other activities when I was pregnant too, but it comes back quickly after the babyis here.
I really want some Gina ‘roons! I’d like to see more recipes or tips on how to stock your fridge each week/month.
I miss new recipes! But I know you’re superwoman and don’t have much time these days. ๐ Otherwise, you’re still the awesomest blogger around. I’d come back and read your blog even if you stopped working out, became a strict carnivore and never ate anything green again. But mostly I just like to read about your “shenanigans” because that word is just so much fun. I’m hoping you do the half marathon, I’d love to hear about a walk/run experience. I’ve often considered trying that. And woot to August list being complete! I will have to try my own for September!
I’ve always wanted to win macaroons!
I’d like to see a weekly ” answer a readers question”. And theme them to be family, food, fitness etc, so we can become more involved in that way ๐
I am really enjoying your segments on different forms of exercise! I like the fashion posts as well! Keep up the great work!
Great job on your goals Gina, you crossed some major ones off your list!! I love how your goals were so varied – you’ve got a great balance! My August was pretty great – I turned 23 and got to see lots of friends. It flew past though!
I love that you post monthly motivation and goals! It helps me make my own personal list of goals too! and of course, who wouldn’t want to try one of your macaroons?!?! YUMMM!!
I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been loving all the posts you’ve had the past few months!!
Mmmm… roons! My August was pretty mellow, a lot of work and a little relaxing. September is my favorite month of the year though! I Looovvveee fall and back to school, so it’s going to be awesome! ๐
August was awesome: Jason and I took a trip to Wisconsin Dells and Chicago and we had a great time!
I am so impressed by all of your cookbooks — I think I have 5 total ๐
I’ve been reading your blog for over a year now, even after I stopped reading other fitness blogs! I think you have a great way of keeping it interesting and talking about a variety of subjects. My fun for August was bonding with my little man who was born mid-June. It’s been hard for me to start working out again b/c he’s very demanding (as they all are I’m sure ๐ But as of September I’m going to make an effort to start off walking and going to the gym once a week until I feel comfortable enough to go twice, three, etc. My husband and family are great but it’s been hard to get mentally back into focusing on me again. Anyway, your blog is part of the reason I want to work out again and eat better like I was before. I love me some Fitnessista ๐
I crossed off a major goal in August – bought my first home on my own!
I love the blog just as it is – especially the family posts. I’m nowhere near that phase of my life yet, but I love all the info and I know it’ll be helpful in the future.
I love all your blogs posts! Your macaroons look to die for! I’ve never had anything like that!!
My goals are always to do something new. This August I started my own blog, started a new gym AND tried a macaroon for the first time. Granted the macaroons were WF brand they were still amazing! Can’t imagine what a homemade one would taste like ๐
I still have yet to experience one of your macaroons…i’d love to try the lemon ones. :o) Lemon seems to be a favorite flavor for this little peanut in my tummy!
I am obsessed with your family posts. You are so smart and research everything, so I am living vicariously through you as you handle your first pregnancy. Hubs and I are thinking of starting to try next year, so I’m saving all the tips and must-haves that you post. I’m not a blogger, I just read them, so I don’t have access to such valuable information from real-life moms and moms-to-be. ๐
My August would end awesome if I won these macaroons!
I love following your fashion tips and beauty tips since I am a girly girl at heart ๐
Your blog is pretty amazing though, just the way it is ๐
YAY to Treats!!!
xxoo
I would LOVE to try them. I have never had one before!
My August was awesome, just for the fact that I have three awesome kiddos and a super awesome hubby to share it with. But we also had fun doing lots of schooling (we homeschool), day trips, park hopping, gardening, yard work, family walks/bike rides, canoe and camping trip, a family get together, girl nights, family movie night, snuggles and cuddles every. single. day. *swoon*
I actually love it all. I love the family posts, fashion posts, of course fitness posts! I love your blog!
Love your blog, especially the fashion posts and the series you did on different types of workouts. I love that you included Crossfit!
I would love to win some macaroons!!! I would like to see some more husband friendly recipes! Love your blog!!!
I NEED to try those macaroons. I drool everytime I see them I am sure they are even more fab than I picture.
If I clean out my closet do you think a Lululemon section will appear? I’m WAY, way jealous of yours!!
You are my first stop every morning when I get to work! Thank you so much for being such an inspiration and TEACHING me so much about health, clean eats, and fitness! This blog has really helped me focus on my health day in and day out, and especially on days when I don’t necessarily feel like hitting up the gym! I just go on the “fitness” page and pick a new workout to try!
Also, my boyfriend laughs at me since I bring you up in casual conversation all the time, like we’re friends. Example: Boyfriend: “Why aren’t my biceps getting bigger? I work them out all the time.”
Me: “The fitnessista says you shouldn’t work out the same muscle groups on consecutive days, duhh.”
Boyfriend: “Umm, you don’t know her.” Hahah!
And I love reading about the ups and downs in Bella’s little life! ๐ Ps. It’s my birthday tomorrow and I’d love some vanilla macaroons!!!!
I still have one day to tackle my closet. Some macaroons would make the job a lot more enjoyable!
I love fashion posts and any new recipe or healthy food combos. I had never though to make overnight oats and they totally hit the spot once I tried it after reading your blog!
My August was jam packed! I completed a half marathon, had a great mother/daughter weekend, had two work parties, went the pool many times and LOTS of bike rides.
I have always wanted to try making some of your roons but haven’t yet. My August has been wonderful, lots of baby planning, family & friend gathering, gym time, and relaxing with the hubby & kitties. Hope everything is going good with you, the Pilot, Bella & little nug!
I love reading about the fun to do lists so I made my own. I have started 30 day shred and next on my list is to learn the “Thriller” dance!
Love reading your blog! When I read your blog on 10 Ways to Make August Awesome, I decided I wanted to make my own list too. While I didn’t get all 10 accomplished my top 2 on the list were running and riding. I wanted to run at least 1-3 miles every other day (excluding weekends) to start off and then work up to more distance and more days. Also wanted to ride everyday even if it was just getting on my horse and walking around without doing anything meaningful. Well good news! I accomplished those! I actually ran 4.5 miles my first week and rode everyday! I was so happy with myself. While I’ve slacked off some now that my son is back in school, I still plan to try hard to keep it up. Thanks for the motivation you provided me with that blog post! Congrats on accomplishing most of yours!
Love your cookbook selection! I finally got to take my first real camping trip in August and it was a blast ๐
I drool every time you mention or show pics of your macaroons. They look so yummy. Never had a macaroon before. I really like the fashion posts a lot.
As much as I love summer, I’m part fish and love to swimming. End of aug means it’s almost my fav time of year I love fall and love taking drives in nh and vt because the trees changing are soo pretty plus theres hot apple cider, cider donuts and all things pumpkin! Hiking in the fall is wonderful too and long bike rides!
I would LOVE to see more lists of things to accomplish every month! I loved your list for August and having something like that at the beginning of every month sounds outstanding, love that idea!
Yay for a great giveaway. ๐ And good for you for planning on the half-marathon–it’ll be a great goal and give you a little bit of time to yourself for training once the baby is born!
I so need some macaroons. And september is my birthday month. So. Meant. To. Be. ๐
Such a fun giveaway! I love the addition of the family posts. Keep those coming ๐
I would LOVE to try your macaroons!! Thanks for reminding us all to be grateful for this month. ๐
I have always wanted to try your macaroons! I also love the way you have kept the blog and wouldn’t change anything. I have especially enjoyed how you’ve posted those mini workouts at the end of some posts, its very motivating! ๐
Great giveaway, Gina! I have been wanting to try your macaroons since day 1 that I started reading your bloggy! (Like 2 years ago – oh wow, time flies!)
I have been thinking a lot about fall and I am beyond ready for it (& I live in Wisconsin)! Bring it on! I am ready for pumpkin EVERYTHING and ready for skinny jeans with boots, scarves, and the new coat that I purchased on my Honeymoon in June! It’s red which is usually not my go-to color, but I decided to step out of almond shell and go bold – plus the hubby gave me the thumbs up “you look hawt” which is always a deal maker ๐
cheers, girl! Have a great day!
I am in love with your blog! And your belly! The family page is absolutely beautiful and I hope you keep the blog going for forever and ever! ๐ xo
We just moved into a new house too. It’s a brand new renovation so it has zero closet rods. Living out of boxes until we figure out a closet system – fun! Easyclosets.com is looking pretty good!
I’ve been reading your blog for awhile Gina, and I love it!! August has been a great month, I’ve gotten to spend alot of time with family and friends. Now I’m looking forward to fall and all that comes with it!!
