Was August Awesome? [giveaway]
*******************************This giveaway ended Sept. 1, 2011 at 10:30 EST. Stay tuned for the next one!
At the beginning of this month, I posted a list of 10 Ways to Make August Awesome. Itโs always fun to have some monthly motivation and goals, so Iโll probably do similar lists for each month ๐
Bellaโs August in a snapshot:
Hereโs what was on there and how I did with my own personal list:
1. Have something to look forward to. For me, it was Healthy Living Summit – just as amazing as I anticipated it to be. The best part? Getting the Pilot away from work for a weekend so he could join me ๐
2. Create a goal for the month. First my goal was to practice more yoga, but it just didnโt happen. I just feel awkward and uncomfortable, especially since I canโt rock out handstands or arm balances right now, so I didnโt practice as much as I would have liked. [Looking back, itโs such a lame excuse. If I want to do it, I should do it, thatโs all there is to it] Instead, I began to work on another goal that may come into fruition, but Iโm superstitious and wonโt post about it until all is bueno ๐
3. Plan a dinner party. Done and done! Now that our house has been โwarmedโ and 99.9% of our stuff is unpacked, we can start to have frequent smaller dinner parties like we used to. Iโm so excited ๐
4. Go through your summer clothes and determine which ones youโd like to get rid of before storing the rest for fall and winter. I actually did this one before I posted this list, and my closet feels SO good! Bonus: room for new clothes! Heh heh.
5. Go for a swim! This didnโt happen. I thought it would motivate me to do it, but nope. Iโm a floater, not a swimmer ๐
6. Pick up a new cookbook to try this month, or borrow one from a friend. This was exciting because I unpacked all of my cookbooks, including 3 new ones that I didnโt get to use before we moved from Valdosta. I canโt wait to bust into them!
[We have another shelf full of cookbooks, too. Forgotten treasures!!]
7. Sign up for a fitness event with a friend. I havenโt done this one yet, but am seriously considering the spring half marathon here in Tucson. I was supposed to do it this past year, but didnโt since I went to LA instead for Gatorade. This one will be about 12 weeks after the baby is born, so Iโll walk/run it, but really want to add some running back into my routine. I miss the โex boyfriendโ โ itโs funny how you miss things when you canโt do them ๐ I ran a little first trimester, but it felt weird after a while so I stopped.
8. Scope out some new jeans for fall. This one happens on an almost daily basis. My pick for fall:
Love the cut, wash, length, everything ๐
9. Go out for a girls night ๐ Iโm lucky to be surrounded by girls in the squadron who always want to hang out-ย we did quite a few dinners and movie nights ๐
10. Eat a pizookie. This one actually didnโt happen! The Pilot and I were planning a pizookie date, and then he had to work late that night and we just didnโt go. I did have fondue this month, though ๐
So was your August Awesome?
Hereโs one more way for that to happen:
You see, I bought a boatload of macaroon supplies for HLS and didnโt have time to make them before our trip.
I love almonds, but I donโt think I need 3 lbs ๐
So Iโd love to make a custom batch of macaroons for a reader- any flavor: Meyer lemon lavender, blonde, chocolate, mocha, chocolate almond butter, super roon [Of course, other things may sneak their way into the package, too]

I’ve never tried a macaroon and would love to!! Love the bloggy Gina!! ๐
It’s always great to set some goals at the beginning of a month. It’s scary how much time sometimes goes by before we realize we haven’t done the things we want to do!
im a mom of 2 so i love reading your family posts!! You should do a post on more house stuff! i love decorating my house and could use more ideas!! are you a fan of pinterest.com yet???
Hi Gina, I really appreciate the way you keep us inspired and just carry on with your good thoughts and fitness ideas through all the ups and downs of life. I would love to try your macaroons, too, maybe it will get me on the raw food bandwagon.
I love love love your blog! Perfect mix of fashion, beauty, fitness, and family/relationship love ๐ Honestly wouldn’t change a thing!!
i’m dying to try you macaroons!
more recipes i think? although i’m sure with your pregnancy and working you aren’t cooking as much?
Oh my gosh, I would love to try your famous ‘roons! It’s my birthday so do I get an extra entry for that? jk:)
I mentioned before I love your focus on posts, and I’m really interested in your love/hate relationship with running. I also love the way running makes me feel, but not so sure I’m actually built for it. I’m still struggling with a minor but nagging knee injury. One last one: I know you teach a stretch class so I’d love to be introduced to more great stretches! Specifically I get a lot of tightness in my neck and back and am always trying to find good ways to work on that. Mostly though, I love your blog, so just keep up the good work!
Sort of unrelated, but my former neighbor is Ellen Barrett, have you tried any of her workouts? Her Yogini workout is awesome, and since you like physique 57 so much, I think you’d like it. I haven’t tried her other one’s yet, but I think she has a mommy and me video too that you might like in a few months. Let me know if you’ve tried any of them!
My August was awesome because I got married last weekend! Everything turned out so much better than I imagined, and I’m really looking forward to September and October being uber-relaxing! I can get back into my routine again, and finally go back to my running & yoga classes ๐
I’m a fairly new reader but I’m really enjoying your blog. Your food looks healthy and delicious and I love your exercise tips. Thanks!
I’m so excited about hearing about your “adventures in baby” and getting the new house warmed up. I actually enjoy reading your blog every morning and has become part of my morning routine:) I’d love to see some videos of the classes you teach at work to get a feel of “being able to do it even though i’m not in Tucson”.
Oh, and i’d love to try your *famous* macaroons!
YUM YUM I LOVE MACAROONS
My August was awesome because I discovered the beauty and power of weight lifting and started kicking my workout routine into high-gear ๐ I’m so energized and can’t wait to see how it will transform my body!!
Never tried a macaroon and would love to! Love your bloggy!! ๐
I really loved the ‘how to make august awesome’ list…so I’d love for that to become a monthly thing. Even though I didn’t do all of those things, it really helped me to stay positive and force myself to do things that ended up making me happier and healthier. So thank you!!
Great job on your goals! My august was awesome as well!
Reading your blog is definitely a daily event for me, I would love to see more workout videos and more videos of you and the Pilot :). The beginning of August was the best time for me….back to back concerts of NKOTBSB up in Canada!!! 5 bad brothers from the beantown land rock my socks off.
Gina, I’d love to hear more fashion tips from you! You have such cute style (pregnant, or not!). Thanks ๐
Sounds like an awesome August! Personally I am excited for September… Fall has always been my favorite season here in New England and I can’t wait for the cool crisp weather and the leaves to change!
My August was awesome…we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary!
I love all things lavender I would love to try them!
I know this isnt YoungHouseLove, but I LOOOOOVE watching all of your house transformations! Love the food, fitness and baby (!) posts too obviously, but deep down I am just an HGTV snob who loves to see the creative changes that young couples make to new spaces. Keep up the good work, girl! ๐
Thanks for the Awesome August motivation!! My August was less than awesome because my husband had some complicated eye surgeries and is only now (nearly 2 months later!) starting to get his vision back.. Its been tough, BUT.. Now that we are on the right track and things are looking up, I’m very excited to make SEPTEMBER SUPER ๐ (“Awesome” IS my favorite word, though, so can I just have an Awesome September anyway??)
THANKS for all you do!! ๐
Yummy! ๐ Gotta love macaroons!
My August was just okay. My man moved 6 hours away and we had been living together so it has definitely been an adjustment. I am ready to make September awesome though!
So glad august is over. I love the fall and winter.
I love your blog more than ever…especially the family posts. ๐
You’ve made me addicted to physique 57 and my husband addicted to breakfast cookies! Next up is the sweet potato black bean chili. Can’t wait!!
Woohoo I love a ‘roon give-away!! I love reading your blog – especially for the workouts and food ideas/recipes. Also the Focus On posts are always very cool! ๐ ๐
So love reading your blog! My August has been pretty jam-packed with baby and dog-sitting for other people and then starting to try planning for my wedding that will hopefully be next spring!
Soooo I watched The Business of Being Born last night and I wake up to your Midwife post this morning! Crazy! We are a little bit out from having BB’s but I feel like I need to start the education now! Thanks for your transparancy and sharing with the world your experience! I’m still in shock and the hubs will be watching it next. I told him he could close his eyes through some of the parts though ๐ Your macaroons are so intriguing since they are so mysterious ๐ Dying to try the chocolate!!
xoxo,
Kim
Hi there! I just love your blog! Congrats on your pregnancy – I’m really looking forward to reading about how you balance motherhood and fitness. Have a great day – hope I win!
Your macaroons look so delicious I would love to see you start a little side business selling them or at least the recipe!!! Maybe, just maybe, that will be a great plan after your baby girl arrives- then we can all just order some instead of hoping to be the one picked from the masses! I will keep my fingers crossed.
Hi Fitnessista :),
I’ve been following your blog for a while now and have really enjoyed reading inspirational posts on good workouts and healthy eats, (Which is what you post about already :)), however, your family post are just as great!
I would love to see more posts about maybe about weight loss tips through workouts (And how you lost 40 pounds, that would be great too).
Recently, I have been increasing my workouts and really been inspired to workout daily as a result of your blog. I follow other blogs but I always look forward to yours the most!
Thanks for all the great advice and motivation :D!
I always love reading your blog. Love all your summer shape ups, bridal boot camp, etc. Really helps me feel like I know what I’m doing in the intimidating weight room!
your macaroons looks so yummy! Love you blog ๐
I love your blog! I’m a semi-new reader and can’t get enough of your food ideas!!!
Loved the idea of goals for August. Looking forward to seeing what’s ahead for September ๐
Macaroons make the world go around (or if not, they should!) and yours look divine! I would love to try them. ๐
I don’t comment often, but just want you to know your blog always makes me smile. without fail ๐
And obviously I’ve been drooling over the roons for too long now…
Hi Gina! Mmm I’d love to win the giveaway! As far as suggestions, I’ve been wanting to ask you for a while for a review on different types/brands of exercise equipment – like exercise balls, foam rollers, weight sets, watches, (clothes, to keep it fun, although I know you’ve done that before!). I tend to buy a lot of stuff online, but sometimes it’s hard to make a decision because the reviews are so varied, and you can’t actually see the stuff before you get it. I love the blog!!! Thank you!
Honestly, my comment is that I have been dyinggg to try your famous macaroons as they look fantastic and flavors sound amazing! Here’s to hoping I get a batch haha
Love your blog, keep it up ๐ I can’t wait to bust out your sweet potato chilli recipe again this fall..I’m ready for it! Oh, and please pick me because I have never even tried macaroons before and would love to!
I would love to have blonde macaroons – helllllooo foodgasm!
I love your blog, and would love to see more lunch ideas and dinner recipes. I find that after awhile I always end up eating the same grains, veggies, etc. I’d love some new ideas!
Hi Gina! I’d love to try one of your macaroons, and I really enjoy all the variety you have on the blog-keep it up!
I never comment on your blog, but I read it every day! =)
…I am also dying to try a macaroon ๐
I feel like this is a great idea! Making short term, monthly, FUN goals would definitely challenge me to LIVE a little more, meet new people (we recently moved to a new area and I could use some of that), and even exercise some time management skills! Love all your posts from family to fitness so great!
Those macaroons look so good! I love reading your blog as a first year college student trying to make healthy decisions. I would love to have a sweet treat to tempt me that’s not endless soft serve ice cream or desserts from the freezer.
Meyer lemon roons please or anything with chocolate ๐
I love the way you’re so ridiculously honest and open about the things you experience in life and pregnancy. I also dig the fashion posts. I don’t think I’d add much to your bloggie, but I’d like to see you somewhere else…on tv, or in a book! I really hope you can land one of those sometime ๐ Just keep posting more delicious eats and cute pictures of Bella and I am goooood.
I love this idea of monthly goals! I’m making a set for September which include a going meat-free for a month to challenge myself to come up with new dinner ideas and get back into strength training by doing 3 sessions a week!
In August, I joined a gym and got a personal trainer! I have always worked out, but never as hard as I thought I could. So I wanted to get a trainer who could really push me to my limits and see what kind of results I could get. I’ve signed up for a year, and I’m excited to see the results of working out so hard and consistently.
I’d like to try chocolate almond roons.
I love the idea of having monthly goals! My goal for September is to get organized with school and work, and try to start working out before class 2 days a week.
I’ve never commented on your blog before, but I’m a frequent reader! You are super positive and uplifting and have been a huge help in my own journey to get fit and healthy. (I have a long way to go, but I love learning new things!) I especially loved the 10 ways to make August Awesome and other motivating posts like the reader’s request on finding motivation! You’re an inspiration!
I love the blog even more now than before! Between the addition of the fashion and family pages, reading the blog is a highlight of my day. You are definitely an inspiration!
