Was August Awesome? [giveaway]
*******************************This giveaway ended Sept. 1, 2011 at 10:30 EST. Stay tuned for the next one!
At the beginning of this month, I posted a list of 10 Ways to Make August Awesome. Itโs always fun to have some monthly motivation and goals, so Iโll probably do similar lists for each month ๐
Bellaโs August in a snapshot:
Hereโs what was on there and how I did with my own personal list:
1. Have something to look forward to. For me, it was Healthy Living Summit – just as amazing as I anticipated it to be. The best part? Getting the Pilot away from work for a weekend so he could join me ๐
2. Create a goal for the month. First my goal was to practice more yoga, but it just didnโt happen. I just feel awkward and uncomfortable, especially since I canโt rock out handstands or arm balances right now, so I didnโt practice as much as I would have liked. [Looking back, itโs such a lame excuse. If I want to do it, I should do it, thatโs all there is to it] Instead, I began to work on another goal that may come into fruition, but Iโm superstitious and wonโt post about it until all is bueno ๐
3. Plan a dinner party. Done and done! Now that our house has been โwarmedโ and 99.9% of our stuff is unpacked, we can start to have frequent smaller dinner parties like we used to. Iโm so excited ๐
4. Go through your summer clothes and determine which ones youโd like to get rid of before storing the rest for fall and winter. I actually did this one before I posted this list, and my closet feels SO good! Bonus: room for new clothes! Heh heh.
5. Go for a swim! This didnโt happen. I thought it would motivate me to do it, but nope. Iโm a floater, not a swimmer ๐
6. Pick up a new cookbook to try this month, or borrow one from a friend. This was exciting because I unpacked all of my cookbooks, including 3 new ones that I didnโt get to use before we moved from Valdosta. I canโt wait to bust into them!
[We have another shelf full of cookbooks, too. Forgotten treasures!!]
7. Sign up for a fitness event with a friend. I havenโt done this one yet, but am seriously considering the spring half marathon here in Tucson. I was supposed to do it this past year, but didnโt since I went to LA instead for Gatorade. This one will be about 12 weeks after the baby is born, so Iโll walk/run it, but really want to add some running back into my routine. I miss the โex boyfriendโ โ itโs funny how you miss things when you canโt do them ๐ I ran a little first trimester, but it felt weird after a while so I stopped.
8. Scope out some new jeans for fall. This one happens on an almost daily basis. My pick for fall:
Love the cut, wash, length, everything ๐
9. Go out for a girls night ๐ Iโm lucky to be surrounded by girls in the squadron who always want to hang out-ย we did quite a few dinners and movie nights ๐
10. Eat a pizookie. This one actually didnโt happen! The Pilot and I were planning a pizookie date, and then he had to work late that night and we just didnโt go. I did have fondue this month, though ๐
So was your August Awesome?
Hereโs one more way for that to happen:
You see, I bought a boatload of macaroon supplies for HLS and didnโt have time to make them before our trip.
I love almonds, but I donโt think I need 3 lbs ๐
So Iโd love to make a custom batch of macaroons for a reader- any flavor: Meyer lemon lavender, blonde, chocolate, mocha, chocolate almond butter, super roon [Of course, other things may sneak their way into the package, too]

I love how positive you always are. No matter what type of day your having! Love the workout ideas, and the focus on posts too! ๐
I would love any macaroon they all look delicioussss!!
I love your blog!!! I’m pregnant too and love seeing other people’s journey!
I would love to try your famous macaroons!!!
I adore how upbeat but totally real you always are! I’d love to see/hear more about your daily/weekly workout routines, especially now that you’re baking that GF bun!
My August was awesome! Still trying to get into back-to-school mode with the kids. ๐
I look forward to reading your blog on my Google Reader! The way you mix fitness, fashion, and family stuff in here is awesome, I wouldn’t change a thing =)
I wish my August was as awesome as yours. Since my graduation in June, things have been spiralling down for me, and I spent most of August upset/depressed. BUT one good thing about hitting a low point is that you can only go up from there, right?! Plus, it will cool down, and I am a cold-weather girl/don’t like summer. So here’s a an awesome Fall! (Winning some ‘roons would help, too, haha.)
My August was pretty stellar – ran eight miles (new PDR), a post on yoga was freshly pressed, and I got to go home for a weekend to see my pupper. Now if I could only get my new military boy-who’s-a-friend to come visit me….
My August was awesome because I moved into a new place! And I’ve actually been able to wake up and go to all my classes which is a huge relief. Yay August! Yay macaroons!
My August was awesome…but i’m looking forward to September. Lots of training runs, eating (i assume macaroons make for great fuel, right?), and cooler weather to make for more visits to the hot yoga studio!
My August has been TOUGH–lots of family and work issues. It has really been a struggle but I am proud to say that I ninja-kicked my fitness goals this month, and still managed to keep everything compartmentalized and in perspective. I have a bunch of stuff to look forward to in September (going home to NOLA to visit my besties…our engagement party…etc) so I am considering September my reward for a less than stellar August ๐
Oooh, I’d love some macaroons!!
I would like to see a section or tab where you link all the reader request posts you have done. I will vaguely remember something you have posted and have to search for a while to find the right post. (Example- I would like to stalk Gina’s gym bag again but can’t remember what the post was called) I love those posts, so it would be great to have easier access to them. Thanks!!
I always like the fashion posts- maybe more workout wear at all different price points? Love the blog ๐
I have been reading your blog for a couple of years now, and it just keeps getting better!
I had a GOOD August, not Awesome, but definitely good!
I’m having a problem with energy and motivation! What can I do?
i just heard news yesterday that my sister is pregnant. I am so happy to become an aunt! congrats to you too! (sorry for being late~)
i want roons!!!! puhhhhh-lease! ๐ ๐
ps-your blog is my fav!
I’d be curious to see if your macaroons match my Bubbe’s! Lol. I think I’ll take some of your August goals and make them my September ones, especially the get a new cookbook goal. Currently feeling very stuck in the meals that I love to cook but have made 85,412 times….it’s time for something fresh and I’m LOVING your blog with all of its ideas! ๐
ooh I would love to try some macaroons! I’ve actually never had one!
I love your blog and would love to try your famous macaroons! I enjoy reading about you and the pilot and the baby!! Loved your blog for a long time ๐
Gina, will you post your macaroon recipe? Sounds super yummy!
Also wanted to suggest a cookbook I saw at Whole Foods yesterday and looked good…Anna Getty’s Easy Green Organic. Very whole foods, lots of veggie recipes but also some fish and meat. It’s on my want list now. Have a great day.
I love your workout sessions and when I am having a down day, I get one of your workouts, head to the gym and sweat my stress off. Good times!
i would love to try the roons!!
love your blog!
My August was awesome b/c it contained lots of family time!
My madre lives in another country so she came for a visit to see us and my son (mainly my son *laugh*) My husband took a whole week of of work and we did a fun “staycation”, lots of little day trips etc….
I am looking forward to Sept and setting some goals for the fall!
Yum thanks for the giveaway! Did my first ever 5k this month. Fitness events with friends are such a great idea – love your lists!
I would love more family posts about what baby items you have bought and why. I enjoy the exposure to ideas and brands I am not familiar with.
Macarroon good-ness!! Yum, nothing quite brightens a bad day like a glorious homemade roon. Mmm-mm!!
I’ve been reading your blog (the first blog I ever read actually) since 2008 and have seen many ‘roon giveaways… They look freakin fantastic and I’ve never won. Here’s to winning ! ๐
The reason I come back to the fitnessista time and time again: 1) your positive outlook on life 2) your enthusiasm to create posts that we will love (it shows) 3) although I’ve never met you IRL, I think you’d be a total sweetheart (is that weird?) 4) you create the BEST at home workouts that are managable (or modifyable ?) for most people 5) the way your house is decorated… my house and yours could be sisters (not really ‘why I come back’, but still funny)
My August went by TOO FAST ?! Is summer really over ? :l
Gina, I love that you accomplished almost all of what you wanted to in August……………….I have to say, the house warming party…………….took the cake……great preperations and hosting I’m sure………made your guests welcome…………….your house looks so good!
My August was pretty good. The highlight was finding a great new yoga studio!
I would LOVE to try your ‘roons, Gina!! I love the family page and really enjoy following along with your pregnancy.
I have bee DYING to try one of your famous macaroons and to be honest, I would have no clue which flavor would take the lead because you make them all sound too good. I love learning more about relationships. What do you and the pilot disagree/agree on when it comes to “life”? Example: healthy habits, raising kids, religion, etc..
I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you writing your family posts!
Love your blog! I’ve actually never had a macaroon (I know, please don’t judge me), so this is the perfect time to post a comment!
My August was amazing. Went on a trip back East to take our daughter on some college visits. Also was able to take her to Fenway Park to see a Red Sox game which was a dream come true for her. Lot’s of goals accomplished & future plans made on that trip! Nothing better ๐
I did have a pretty rocking August, but the best part is that it’s my birthday today!! My coworkers put up a pink princess happy birthday banner ๐
I absolutely love reading your blog, it gives great motivation and inspiration for healthy living. One of the many things i love about your blog are the workout posts, especially at home workouts! I would love to win some of those macaroons, they look delicious ๐
I’d love to see more recipes!! You make the yummiest goods. ๐ and maybe a winter shape up plan to counteract all that yummy holiday food!
I would love some homemade roons! Yummy!. I love your blog, it would be great to see some more recipes:)
Love your blog! I have read off and on for a couple of years now. Recently, I went back and read the first several months of your blog and loved to see how you have evolved (and keep evolving) to fit your needs/moods/concerns. Love!!!
I would love to see tag navigation of your blogs! So if I were looking for posts about Bella I could click the tag, or if I were looking for travel, etc.
Love your blog either way!
I think (?) she has these already! They’re at the top of each post, under the date, listed after “in”
๐
My August was pretty eventful– got healthier (thanks to your inspiration), worked hard on focusing my writing for my blog, and started the interviewing process for a new position at my job! Hopefully September will be even more eventful with finding out I got the position and moving!! I’d love some roons… any flavor will do!
You are such a sweet, generous and amazing person! You will be an amazing mom, I am sure!! And you are such a good inspiration with your healthy food and exercise. Just thanks for being you ๐ Sounds like you had an amazing August! I’m jealous ๐ All we did was move and unpack and now school is starting! Oh well, here’s to a great September!
The blog is pretty amazing already, but I would love more “what i wore today” fashion posts!
The macaroons look wonderful! I’d love to win. August has been low-key for us, but we just brought home a new stray kitten, so that was an exciting way to end the month.
I love the fitness section of your blog! There has been (too many) days that I was just not feeling the whole working out thing, but one quick look at your blog made me motivated again! Thanks ๐
Thank-you so much for breakfast insipiration, I wasn’t feeling like breaky lately but once I tried the eggs/toast/salsa/nooch combo breakfast is back!!!!! ๐ I read a lot of food blogs but your food seems to be most in line with my taste buds!
Yum! I am a coconut fiend! Mocha macaroons? Meyer lemon-lavender? The family posts have been really fun to read, but my favorites are the random workout tips at the end of your posts. There always seems to be at least one new strength-training exercise in there to try and some of them have made it into my regular rotation. My favorites are the frog crunches, one-legged deadlifts, and split squats.
Hey Gina, i love your blog. and i am dying to try your famous roons! i have been fooling around with a few recipes lately. Thanks for the motivation you provide daily!
