Was August Awesome? [giveaway]
*******************************This giveaway ended Sept. 1, 2011 at 10:30 EST. Stay tuned for the next one!
At the beginning of this month, I posted a list of 10 Ways to Make August Awesome. It’s always fun to have some monthly motivation and goals, so I’ll probably do similar lists for each month 😀
Bella’s August in a snapshot:
Here’s what was on there and how I did with my own personal list:
1. Have something to look forward to. For me, it was Healthy Living Summit – just as amazing as I anticipated it to be. The best part? Getting the Pilot away from work for a weekend so he could join me 😉
2. Create a goal for the month. First my goal was to practice more yoga, but it just didn’t happen. I just feel awkward and uncomfortable, especially since I can’t rock out handstands or arm balances right now, so I didn’t practice as much as I would have liked. [Looking back, it’s such a lame excuse. If I want to do it, I should do it, that’s all there is to it] Instead, I began to work on another goal that may come into fruition, but I’m superstitious and won’t post about it until all is bueno 😉
3. Plan a dinner party. Done and done! Now that our house has been “warmed” and 99.9% of our stuff is unpacked, we can start to have frequent smaller dinner parties like we used to. I’m so excited 😀
4. Go through your summer clothes and determine which ones you’d like to get rid of before storing the rest for fall and winter. I actually did this one before I posted this list, and my closet feels SO good! Bonus: room for new clothes! Heh heh.
5. Go for a swim! This didn’t happen. I thought it would motivate me to do it, but nope. I’m a floater, not a swimmer 😉
6. Pick up a new cookbook to try this month, or borrow one from a friend. This was exciting because I unpacked all of my cookbooks, including 3 new ones that I didn’t get to use before we moved from Valdosta. I can’t wait to bust into them!
[We have another shelf full of cookbooks, too. Forgotten treasures!!]
7. Sign up for a fitness event with a friend. I haven’t done this one yet, but am seriously considering the spring half marathon here in Tucson. I was supposed to do it this past year, but didn’t since I went to LA instead for Gatorade. This one will be about 12 weeks after the baby is born, so I’ll walk/run it, but really want to add some running back into my routine. I miss the “ex boyfriend” – it’s funny how you miss things when you can’t do them 😉 I ran a little first trimester, but it felt weird after a while so I stopped.
8. Scope out some new jeans for fall. This one happens on an almost daily basis. My pick for fall:
Love the cut, wash, length, everything 🙂
9. Go out for a girls night 😀 I’m lucky to be surrounded by girls in the squadron who always want to hang out- we did quite a few dinners and movie nights 🙂
10. Eat a pizookie. This one actually didn’t happen! The Pilot and I were planning a pizookie date, and then he had to work late that night and we just didn’t go. I did have fondue this month, though 😉
So was your August Awesome?
Here’s one more way for that to happen:
You see, I bought a boatload of macaroon supplies for HLS and didn’t have time to make them before our trip.
I love almonds, but I don’t think I need 3 lbs 😉
So I’d love to make a custom batch of macaroons for a reader- any flavor: Meyer lemon lavender, blonde, chocolate, mocha, chocolate almond butter, super roon [Of course, other things may sneak their way into the package, too]

My August was interesting…i dislocated my knee at my friend’s wedding. Thankfully i was able to ditch the crutches for a trip to Vegas with my hubby (where we celebrated my bday with brunch and mimosas at Mon Ami!). It was perfect and the dry heat helped the knee. I’m definitely trying to fill my days now since I can’t workout for a couple more weeks and reading your blog is great company! So thank you 🙂
Ohhhhhh….lavender macaroons sound so amazing 🙂
My August began with a list of intentions but I made sure I was still soaking in the sun and enjoying the warmer weather!!!
My August was great – just started a new job as a personal trainer & am loving it so far!
I LOVED all the pictures from your house warming get together. Definitely inpirational! Your house is gorgeous!
I love making goals…I write them down and post them to my wall for the year. This year one of my big goals was to travel somewhere new…and I’m following through…I’ve booked my ticket to Australia in the fall. Writing out your goals really helps since it keeps you accountable and reminds you daily! 🙂
My august was awesome! I finished school, got a promotion and am moving into a new condo this week 😀
I would love to see healthy recipes that the meat & potatoes pilot would love to. I’m looking for things to make that my BF and I will BOTH eat….its hard!
Love your list! Love your blog! Keep up the good work! I would love to see a get your butt motivated post! I just can’t seem to do it!
I can’t believe it is the end of August already! I love the idea of posting some fun monthly goals.
all the macaroons sound so good! i love macaroons in any flavor, but i’d have to go for the blonde or chocolate because i’m a sucker for originals 🙂 amazing giveaway!
Love the August follow-up from the to-do’s! I stretched almost every night in August, and did a lot more abs (including many of your Ab Burner workouts! LOVE THOSE!!!!)….those were my fitness-related goals. I started a 2nd bootcamp class (in Philly–one in South Philly, near the cheesesteak places you visited with the Pilot! and one behind the art museum), and I am loving going into fall with full classes and excitement.
I am starting to blog and I love the community of healthy people I’ve met so far in the blog world!
September 1-30 I’m doing a whole30 Paleo challenge!
Loyal reader, first time commenter. Your blog is truly a bright spot in my day! Blessings to you, the Pilot and Baby Girl.
My August was very blah with many changes, but some macaroons would make it all better!
I would LOVE to try some of your famous macaroons 😀
I truly look forward to reading your blog every day, and have been reading for years (even before I started my own little bloggie) 🙂 You have been such an inspiration to me on my fitness journey!
Those macaroons look delish!!
I am a fairly new reader and love your workout tips and recipes!!!
My goal for August was to get outside a little more. I work crazy hours, so sometimes it’s just easier to veg out. But, every year that I camp out inside during the summer, I kick myself come winter time when I’m actually forced to be in here! I cut down on my computer time which has made a big impact, but I still stop by here every day 🙂
I’ll be honest. I just want to win some damn macaroons. I’ve been salivating since I first saw them on your blog. Lavender meyer lemon sounds like the stuff dreams are made of. Here’s to hoping I get lucky…
Something fun about my August… I finally signed up for a Muddy Buddy race after thinking about doing one for the past few YEARS! Also fabulous, I got to hang out with my bro and sis-in-law and feel their little baby squirming around inside her belly. Amazing!
Chocolate almond butter ‘roons sound incredible! *drool*
I’ve heard many good things about you macaroons! I’d love to try!
Roooooooooooooooons!!
Signing up for a half marathon 12 weeks after delivery? That’s hard core! I really love following your pregnancy. 🙂 I can’t wait to “meet” your little one and follow your journey into motherhood!
This is such a cute idea! I’ve actually never had a Macaroon before. Crazy, right?
Mmmmm…chocolate almond butter sounds AAAAAAAHHHHHMAZING! I adore your blog!!! I would love even more recipes since the ones you post are all fabulous.
So glad your August was great! Mine has been fantastic, and I have found a new crazy organizational side of myself this month!
The best thing about my office was going to an old friend’s wedding — got to see buds from the past, dance like a fool AND the food was epic.
I didn’t get any of my August goals achieved. It went by so quickly. Here’s hoping that September is better!
August was a crazy whirlwind up here in MN. We took two trips to the west coast and I’m not in the midst of prepping for two parties in the next month while finishing up my HUGE final consulting project for my MBA.
I love that you makes lists – I’m a crazy list person, too. It is just so motivating to mark things off as I go, and a lesson in being realistic on what I plan to achieve. There’s nothing more disappointing than an unfinished list at the end of the day. 🙂
What made my August great was my own little nuggette. She is now 22 months but after a really rough start for both of us (born at 26 weeks), I think seeing the joy in her face every day when she is playing, learning etc makes my world glow. I’m hoping for a very long and safe pregnancy for you,Tom and baby girl!
I’m 25 and last week while on vacation I finally learned how to ride a real (ie not stationary) bike! I’m super excited and am now looking for a sprint triathlon to sign up for 🙂
oh my goodness, I would loo-oo-oooove to have some of your cute little ‘roons. I’m not even sure what flavor to pick from.. they all sound amazing! so, I’d say surprise me with whatever you’d like to make. 🙂
and I love your schweaty workouts. gimme mooore!
My August was amazing! Now, I’ve started studying for the LSAT exam, so at least I’ll have a fabulous summer to look back on!
Got all my August goals achieved, including getting a job! I think I’m drooling over my keyboard just looking at the roons!
My August was awesome! I definitely tried a LOT of new recipes (helloooo garbanzo bean brownies!!!), and focused on raiding farmers’ markets in the area. I, sadly, do not have a dehydrator, so ‘roons are out of my real of possibilities at the moment. I love the positivity of all of your posts, Gina! You’re the first blog I read in the morning <3
August flew by and before I knew school had started for the kiddos. I love your posts about schweaty workouts and I am trying to incorporate them into my daily routine so I would love more of them.
Hi! I love your blog! Your Focus On posts are the best. I ended up getting the Tone It Up diet plan after reading about it here. I was not sure if it would be worth the price, but for me, it totally was! I love how they have a plan for what types of foods to eat when. With my activity level, I definitely eat larger portions than some of their recommendations, but still…
Chocolate all the way!!! (Oh and because of your blog, I finally found a protein powder I don’t hate: Chocolate sun warrior!)
I love seeing pictures of your house! It seems that decorating comes naturally to you. You have a lot of special touches that appear to make your house feel like home.
I would love to see more of where you find a lot of your little treasures!
I would love to try your lemon macaroons!
I’m secretly loving the fact that you HLS was in Philly this year–I’m doing a day trip there on Friday and all you healthy bloggers have given me a ton of great “must visit” ideas! A pizookie is definitely on my to do list in September!
I would love to try the macaroons! My august was pretty awesome especially because it included a trip to the beach!
August has been an interesting month. I think the word the best describes it is “reflection”……. Had a birthday, marked my 4 years since MS diagnosis, was put on bedrest, saw some great friends & had some great laughs.
Love your blog! Congratulations to you both…exciting times!
I love this post. Especially since we live in AZ and it’s not always motivating to be outdoors or do much of anything right now! I made August fun by meeting my best friend for “dates” once a week. It allowed us to scope out new restaurants in the Phoenix area.
I envision many of those roons shoved in my mouth at once. He he.
This might be odd, but I want to see more before pictures because I find them very motivational and inspirational!
I’m loving the blog right now. It’s a good combination of family, nutrition, and exercise posts I think. My August was full of big transitions from moving to a new state/city to start graduate school to being there for my dad while he had a lung transplant. My emotions have been everywhere, but overall, things are looking good for September! One of my main goals this month is to solidify my routine and prioritize responsibilities!
Love Love Love your blog! You are such an inspiration and I enjoy reading about your life. Your Focus On posts are my fav… Keep them coming 🙂
a few weeks ago i had a fitnessista inspired day.
i went to “whole paycheck” to pick up a few things. on this list was larabars. i only get one flavor, my absolute favorite: coconut cream pie. then i saw the blueberry muffin and remembered you saying it was your new favorite. so i bought one and ate it as soon as i got in the car. it was fantastic! so now i have two favorites!
then later that day, i was wandering around the summit (an outdoor mall) and saw a new store that had just opened: lululemon. had it not been for you talking about this brand on here, i would have walked right by it. so i thought, “well i already checked out one fitnessista approved thing today, i might as well try a second!”
i loved everything in that store! everything was so pretty AND functional! the price tags were the only thing i didn’t like! i’m training for a marathon right so i told myself, “if i make it through training, i’ll buy myself a fancy luluemon outfit!”
thanks for the fun saturday!
Your Macaroons always look so delicious! They make me want to go out and buy a dehydrator.
As somebody with a growing interest in nutrition, I’d love to learn more about how you educate yourself on the ever-changing topic of nutrition, and what books you’d recommend to people who are just beginning to explore the field in general!
xo
August has been good to me! It’s still ungodly hot here in the Midwest but the mornings are starting to cool off which makes my running so much better! I got to see some family in Colorado and watch a good friend get married, too!
Hi Gina! I’m a fairly new reader and have been “checking in” during my lunch every day. My August was all about baby prep- I’m due in about 5 weeks- so lots of work on the house and nursery, walking, and prenatal yoga. Feeling great so far and can’t wait to meet our little guy soon. Congrats to you and your husband on your little girl!
Love your new place! And I love those jeans as well! And I love macaroons! I’m just full of love today! 🙂
i approve of the monthly goals idea! it would be really fun 🙂
My August was a good one! I broke my 5k record, saw lots of family & friends, and even traveled a bit. Winning these roons would be the cherry on top!
I absolutely love your blog and don’t think you should change anything! It’s one of the few I read everyday! This august I finally moved into my first apartment…life-changing, but so exciting! and I finally have a kitchen 🙂
