Was August Awesome? [giveaway]

*******************************This giveaway ended Sept. 1, 2011 at 10:30 EST. Stay tuned for the next one!

At the beginning of this month, I posted a list of 10 Ways to Make August Awesome. It’s always fun to have some monthly motivation and goals, so I’ll probably do similar lists for each month 😀

Bella’s August in a snapshot:

bell

Here’s what was on there and how I did with my own personal list:

1. Have something to look forward to. For me, it was Healthy Living Summit – just as amazing as I anticipated it to be. The best part? Getting the Pilot away from work for a weekend so he could join me 😉

2. Create a goal for the month. First my goal was to practice more yoga, but it just didn’t happen. I just feel awkward and uncomfortable, especially since I can’t rock out handstands or arm balances right now, so I didn’t practice as much as I would have liked. [Looking back, it’s such a lame excuse. If I want to do it, I should do it, that’s all there is to it] Instead, I began to work on another goal that may come into fruition, but I’m superstitious and won’t post about it until all is bueno 😉

3. Plan a dinner party. Done and done! Now that our house has been “warmed” and 99.9% of our stuff is unpacked, we can start to have frequent smaller dinner parties like we used to. I’m so excited 😀

4. Go through your summer clothes and determine which ones you’d like to get rid of before storing the rest for fall and winter. I actually did this one before I posted this list, and my closet feels SO good! Bonus: room for new clothes! Heh heh.

5. Go for a swim! This didn’t happen. I thought it would motivate me to do it, but nope. I’m a floater, not a swimmer 😉

6. Pick up a new cookbook to try this month, or borrow one from a friend. This was exciting because I unpacked all of my cookbooks, including 3 new ones that I didn’t get to use before we moved from Valdosta. I can’t wait to bust into them!

cookbooks

[We have another shelf full of cookbooks, too. Forgotten treasures!!]

7. Sign up for a fitness event with a friend. I haven’t done this one yet, but am seriously considering the spring half marathon here in Tucson. I was supposed to do it this past year, but didn’t since I went to LA instead for Gatorade. This one will be about 12 weeks after the baby is born, so I’ll walk/run it, but really want to add some running back into my routine. I miss the “ex boyfriend” – it’s funny how you miss things when you can’t do them 😉 I ran a little first trimester, but it felt weird after a while so I stopped.

8. Scope out some new jeans for fall. This one happens on an almost daily basis. My pick for fall:

Love the cut, wash, length, everything 🙂

9. Go out for a girls night 😀 I’m lucky to be surrounded by girls in the squadron who always want to hang out-  we did quite a few dinners and movie nights 🙂

10. Eat a pizookie. This one actually didn’t happen! The Pilot and I were planning a pizookie date, and then he had to work late that night and we just didn’t go. I did have fondue this month, though 😉

So was your August Awesome?

Here’s one more way for that to happen:

You see, I bought a boatload of macaroon supplies for HLS and didn’t have time to make them before our trip.

roon supplies

I love almonds, but I don’t think I need 3 lbs 😉

So I’d love to make a custom batch of macaroons for a reader- any flavor: Meyer lemon lavender, blonde, chocolate, mocha, chocolate almond butter, super roon [Of course, other things may sneak their way into the package, too]

I have never tried macaroons before, but they definitely sound delicious. I love reading about your new house and all of the baby adventures.

  2. Yaneth Garcia on August 31, 2011 at 12:17 pm

Almonds are my FAV !! And thanks to reading your blog, I’ve been introduced to Almond Butter!! It takes every ounce of willpower to not eat the WHOLE jar 😉 Those macaroons sound “amazeballz” (love that btw!) !!

  3. Christine on August 31, 2011 at 12:17 pm

I would love to try some of your famous macaroons! I’ve never had them before but they look yummy 🙂 I’ve also been contemplating entering a race. I’ve been wanting to do a half marathon but as a newbie runner, 13 miles is intimidating. However, I know that if (when!) I complete one, I would be able to tackle almost anything!

  4. Jaimie on August 31, 2011 at 12:18 pm

My August was pretty awesome and some roons would make it even better! I love your blog and am now slightly obsessed with the breakfast cookie.

  5. Marisa @ Mind Over Booty on August 31, 2011 at 12:18 pm

I am so in love with running right now! It feels a little crazy since I used to be the kinda girl who thought she wasn’t a runner. I admire your goal to do the half right after having a bebe. You go girl!

  6. Kat on August 31, 2011 at 12:18 pm

My August was a pretty great month! Here in Chicago our weather was amazing everyday and we soaked up all of it, fall is right around the corner tho and I can’t wait for bonfires and hot chocolate 🙂 One thing I can’t wait to read more of on your blog…your pregnancy shenanigans!! Your midwife post was really interesting. xoxo Kat

  7. Lori Z. on August 31, 2011 at 12:18 pm

I love your blog just the way it is!
I also had a great August. Hate to see it end. My girls are now back in school and the house is too quiet!! 🙁 But, I just get busy with other things…

  8. Ellen @ Undercover Runner Eats on August 31, 2011 at 12:19 pm

I love watching you and your baby “bump” grow!

  9. Jennie on August 31, 2011 at 12:19 pm

My August has been spent going mad while buying a house (by myself!). I’ve been waiting on loan approval/closing date for what seems like two years, even though it’s only been a matter of weeks since this process started. Some chocolate almond butter macaroons would be heavenly right now. Plus free food is always great when the bank is taking all your money, lol. Thanks for the giveaway! PS: Your house is GORGEOUS!!

  10. sarah on August 31, 2011 at 12:19 pm

August has been filled with a lot of hurry up and wait for us! Cant wait for September since I’m moving to Atlanta! woop woop! I would like to see a post on healthy eats while traveling since I have been making lots of trips from jax to atlanta and granola bars and apples are getting pretty old.

  11. Eva on August 31, 2011 at 12:19 pm

love this post and love the idea of the goals! i’m definitely going to set some for september (my birthday month!) and join you!

    thanks Gina!!

August has been bueno HOT in Texas. 1st sprint Triathlon happening Sun. Nervous & Excited. Loving the training. Would love some of those macaroons, enjoy your day!

  13. Laura on August 31, 2011 at 12:20 pm

August went by so quickly for me! Hubby got 2 weeks of leave so we took a wonderful vacation and then went to visit family. I might try to do a 10 ways to make September awesome. Something I’m looking forward to- my cake decorating classes start tomorrow!

  14. Shaina on August 31, 2011 at 12:20 pm

your August sounds like it was more fun than mine – we’ve been packing boxes over here for our LAST Navy move!!! I’m going back to Los Angeles for my pilot’s LAST deployment and then he gets out next summer when he comes home. 🙂

We have been sneaking in some dinners and baseball games with friends though to make sure we see everyone before we leave. I’m super excited for next summer when we buy our own house and start having dinner parties again. We’re about a year behind you…baby and all 😉

  15. rebecca on August 31, 2011 at 12:20 pm

I had a tough August, but looking forward to a new start in September…not to mention fall foods! And for the blog, I’ve been loving the family posts, I’m curious to see your pregnancy style as your little lady keeps growing!

  16. Ashley on August 31, 2011 at 12:20 pm

I can’t believe August is over already! It was pretty awesome though! Yay for giveaways 🙂

  17. Kali on August 31, 2011 at 12:21 pm

  18. Kelly on August 31, 2011 at 12:21 pm

My August was, indeed, awesome! I had my highest mileage month so far in running and went to New Orleans, which was just amazing.

  19. Carolyn B on August 31, 2011 at 12:22 pm

Hi there! I’m usually a blog lurker, and this being my first comment on your site, please pardon me if I’m a little chatty~

I spent most of Awesome August broadening my fitness and food horizons. I tried out Bikram yoga and fell absolutely in love with its environment. I felt more engaged in a studio class than doing a regular workout video. It’s just a shame that the membership is a tad expensive and, with college starting, I’m not able to devote a lot of time to their classes. :/ I also splurged on a road bike this month which I look forward to riding every Sunday morning with my daddy (my fitness buddy).

Now on to the best part, food! Your posts have inspired me to try two new things: chia seeds and GOAT CHEESE. Seriously! I went to our local farmer’s market and picked up a tub of blueberries and cream. It is really, really out of this world! Next ingredients on my list to try is nutritional yeast and incorporate a protein powder into my diet. 🙂 I keep eyeing the nooch bin whenever I make a trip to Whole Paycheck.

Not to sound suck-uppy, but out of all the fitness & food blogs that I focus on, I definitely enjoy yours the most. I’m also from a military background so I can relate whenever you mention your days with the Pilot. (Plus my dad’s an Arizonian too so I mention your blog to him sometimes! haha) I appreciate that you display your portion sizes to your clients and tack on a workout routine to some of the posts. The only thing I would suggest that I wish I saw more of are recipes of your homecookin’! I believe I came across your blog originally when I was on the hunt for healthy recipes. 🙂 Other than that, I find your blog very well-rounded with the fitness, food, & fashion. 😀

Can we dub next month as “Sassy September?” haha. Time to end what I knew would be a long comment. Hope you have a righteous day! Ciao~!

  20. Allison on August 31, 2011 at 12:22 pm

Hi Gina! I’ve been reading your blog now for a couple of months and just love it! Thanks so much for all the inspiring posts you share 🙂 Have a great day!

  21. Erin on August 31, 2011 at 12:22 pm

I love your fashion posts and now your family posts, too! 🙂

  22. Cecilia on August 31, 2011 at 12:22 pm

Oh, I’ve been on a cookbook kick lately, and it’s so much fun trying out new recipes and it has resulted in me having a big cooking session on Sunday evenings, which means I don’t have to worry about lunches for the week. Good for my sanity and economy!

  23. Meaghan on August 31, 2011 at 12:23 pm

I’m loving your “focus on” posts about different workout types, but maybe you could also do some that focus on different muscles? Like, all the ways you can possibly work your triceps, or quads, etc.

  24. Teri on August 31, 2011 at 12:23 pm

I’d LOVE to try a Blonde roon, pleeez!

    Why was my August Awesome?

I went to the Beach = Awesome
I started back at work (I work in a school) = Awesome
I’ve bought tons of new fall clothes = Awesome
Been House Hunting = Awesome & Fun!

  25. Danielle C. on August 31, 2011 at 12:23 pm

  26. Pam on August 31, 2011 at 12:24 pm

Your 3lb bag of almonds made me laugh because I also get the 3lb bags but they never seem to last in my house for me to do anything with them. sigh. I need to start hiding them from my almond stealing roommates so I can attempt to make some delicious macaroons! Thanks for the giveaway and love all the posts!

  27. cassie on August 31, 2011 at 12:24 pm

  29. Christina on August 31, 2011 at 12:25 pm

I lurve macaroons!! I’ve been dying to try yours for a long time now, I bid on them a few times but then the more money making bloggies booted me out of the running! lol. I’d try any flavor, you pick your fav 🙂

Hi Gina! I love your blog- you do a great job! I was wondering if you could do a post on how to gain weight in a healthy way? I’m not just talking about increasing muscle, I need to add some body fat too. I know to eat more, but I want to look good at the end and not just soft and flabby. Thanks!!

  32. Jen on August 31, 2011 at 12:26 pm

  34. Mari on August 31, 2011 at 12:27 pm

August was great! Finally back in Alaska with my hubby after 2 years of immigration hell, have had lots of fun parties in the backyard (even with terrible rainy weather all month), got my daughter into her new school which she loves (yay), looking for a new job, been doing home reno’s and de-bachelorizing our house – it’s been exciting.

I found a snoogle at a second hand store and bought it because you love yours so much. Best thing ever! I’m not even preggers and I love it 🙂 Wish I had had one 10 years ago when i was. Very fun to read your Family posts, it really brings me back to when I was pregnant with my daughter. You’ll do great by the way!

As for what I would love to see on the blog, keep doing what you’re doing! I love it all and I often recommend you as my favorite fitness/life blog. 🙂

I managed to sell a 2 paintings at the West End Event I attended here in CA. 🙂 And I sold quite a bit of prints of my Dias de los Muertos work. I also got a very possible commission for one too!

I may not have done an athletic event as I had wanted, but I did have a girls night, got a lot of goals accomplished and am looking forward to the next couple months because I got so many Day of the Dead paintings I want to do.
