Nut Butter Monster
Hi guys! Happy Sunday 😀 Hope you’re having a wonderful and relaxing day <3
I’ve created a nut butter monster….
When I realized that I was out of almond butter this morning, I proclaimed that I’d try to make my own.
The Pilot just raised one eyebrow at me. Last time I *tried* to make almond butter, I overheated the Vitamix and our kitchen was full of smoke.
Feeling brave, I decided to give it another whirl.
IT WORKED!
Not only did it *work*, it’s redunk 😀
I guess the secret is adding a little bit of oil to the raw almonds?? I whirled the raw almonds around in the food processor for about 5 minutes and when nothing was really happening, I added a small splash of olive oil. A little more whirling + some sea salt, cinnamon and vanilla, and voila! Homemade AB 😀
Have you ever made your own nut butter???
Even though it’s Pancake Sunday, I had to use the fresh cinnamon-y almond butter in some bfast cookie dough cereal, topped with an organic peach:
So good 🙂
The Pilot had French Toast and left his plate on the coffee table..Bella finished it for him 🙂
We’re all out of order as far as food traditions go this week, because we celebrated Indian Food Wednesday last night [Saturday] 😉
Buffet of glory:
with roti
Even though the food was wonderful and my date was seksi, it wasn’t quite as fab as our Chicago Indian Feast last weekend 😉
After our dinner, we rented Shutter Island, which was intense and kinda creepy. I had CRAZY dreams last night!
This morning we’ve been cleaning around the casa and the Pilot has to go into work for a while, so I’ll hop on the spin bike at the base gym while he works.
The rest of the day looks like this:
-AT&T (blah)
-Groceries
-GRILL 😀
Hope you have a beautiful Sunday!
xoxo,
Gina
wow, awesome that you made your own AB!! I don’t think I’d ever even try…it would be a horrible kitchen fail
LOVE your blog Gina! I worked out on an AFB today (Holloman) and thought of you. 😉 I am a triathlete and certified healthnut myself and was wondering about your Love for Indian Food… I was always under the impression it is quite high in fat and caloric, especially the Buffet type places… what’s your secret? Thank you for inspiring me on a daily basis. Breakfast cookies are a staple in my household and even my four year old twins love them! The other day they were actually fighting in the gym daycare over who would get the last piece… boy did we raise some eyebrows there. 😉
Best wishes, jeanette
loving the make your own AB! I ADORE AB and only buy it from local farm at our farmers markets on Saturdays. If I run out I’m out of luck til I get back there! This is a great option. I wonder if you can use Almond Meal? I have a bunch of that used in exchange for bread crumbs in a lot of recipes.
Hi Gina 🙂 I was wondering if you could give me suggestions on a new Vitamix. My mom is getting me one for my Master’s 🙂 Thanks so much girl!!

I love your website! I always try to read it to have some inspiration! BTW, I tried making my own almond butter yesterday as well and did not work. I was thinking of adding some olive oil but haven’t yet. I just have a bowl of finely processed raw almond. But thank you for experimenting with olive oil as I will add some tomorrow and finish it off with some cinnamon and vanilla! Cheers! Thanks!
I make raw Almond Butter all the time – it tastes great (especially in breakfast cookies :D).
I’ve tried making my own nut butters, but mine are never as good at the store. I can’t get them very smooth in my food processor, even with tons of time. I’m going to try roasting the nuts first to see if that helps . . . maybe I’ll try my blender instead.
we watched shutter island this weekend too – def creepy but i thought really good! so similar to inception at certain parts too…
I made my first batch of nut butter a few weeks ago. I used my food processor and I also added a little oil. The batch turned out pretty smooth but I think it is a little bland. Since I am using it for breakfast cookies, it works fine. Next time, I’m going to add a little cinnamon and maybe a touch of vanilla.
I have made my own almond butter. I roasted my almonds with some maple syrup and cinnamon and then processed until it made butter. SO good! Actually last year I made it up and put it in small mason jar with a ribbon and gave it away as gifts along with a fresh loaf of homemade bread! Now who wouldn’t want that has a Christmas gift?
um, i would LOVE that for a christmas gift 🙂
Kathi, WOW, that sounds just absolutely delicious! Are you willing to share how you made your homemade AB…? I’ve never roasted almonds before and am watering at the mouth over here thinking of your yummy holiday gift 🙂 – Rebecca
Sounds great, I have never made my own, but love almond butter!! Barney Butter is my fave, but should try making my own…
Oooh I may have to try that! There is a nut stand at our farmer’s market. Maybe I’ll pick up some almonds this week! Oooh and then I could add some dark cocoa powder to it…..
mmmm! You never cease to inspire me!
I have been meaning to rent shutter island but I always chicken out because I am afraid its going to be a scary movie (which I am NOT a fan of!). Is it more of a suspence movie? Do you reccomend it? I haven’t tried making homemade nut butters yet, I do make homemade almond milk from time to time though. I should definitely try the almond butter!
yes, i’m a huge chicken too and it wasn’t too scary. more gory than scary if you can handle the gore.
I’m IN LOVE with making my own nut butters now. I literally stopped buying it at the store. 🙂 I love that I can put less than a tablespoon of butter into a batch and still have it be silky and almost whipped. It makes me feel like I’m going something healthy for my family.
Plus the combinations are endless….and that’s just too fun to pass up. My current love is a 3:2:1 mix of peanuts, almonds, and sunflower seeds. It’s turned my non-nut-butter hubby into a fan.
