Breakfast cookie dough cereal

Hi guys! How are ya? Hope you’re having a lovely morning <3

Since I’ve been feasting on b-fast cookie dough cereal for a few weeks now, I thought it would be fun to do a how-to post similar to the original breakfast cookie post :)

There are two versions: Original and Raw

For the original version:

1. In a bowl, add 1/3-1/2 C oats, 1/2 scoop protein powder of choice (Sun Warrior is my fave), cinnamon, pinch of sea salt, a lil vanilla extract and some Stevia or sweetener of choice

oats

2. Mix well to combine. Add 1-2 T of your favorite nut butter and using a spoon, break up and stir until mixture resembles crumbly cookie dough.

crumbles

3. Top with at least 1 C milk of choice, and then add fun toppings. Get crazy :D I love goji berries, cacao nibs, banana, peaches, strawberries… the possibilities are endless.

cereal

4. Feast :)

For the raw version:

1. In a bowl, soak 1/3-1/2 C oat groats (available in the bulk section of most health food stores) overnight.

groats

2. Drain and rinse the groats, then add them to a small food processor. Pulse to break up the oat groats a bit. Add 1/2 scoop protein powder (Sun Warrior will keep the “raw” integrity of the oats), 1-2 T raw nut butter, cinnamon, pinch of sea salt and a little sweetener if you’d like. Pulse to combine.

Mixture will be crumbly:

3. Transfer mixture to a bowl and add 1 C fresh nut milk (love almond milk) and toppings of choice.

4. Feast :D

So there ya go! Please let me know if any of ya’ll try it :) It’s a perfect breakfast choice for Summer, but I can definitely see myself getting into hot oats again when the weather changes.

I’m off to do some yoga and then get back to the packing/moving beast.

See ya later today with a post on fall change/resolutions and a re-visit to the ol’ inspiration board.

xoxo,

Gina

Something to do: Last day for the Sun Warrior promo! The price is the best on the internet- $35 for a container (which is usually about $50), 2 containers for $65. *Click here* to get yo warrior on :)

  1. Finally tried this fo’ breakfast this morning. I’ve been hooked on the cookie and overnight oats for some time and I was wondering how this cereal would be. It’s amazingly good to be so “simple.” Yet another fitnessista creation to add to my recipe rotation. Thanks! ;)

  2. I have been eyeing this breakfast for a couple of days, I finally tried it this morning and ohhhhhh boyyyy. I used chocolate protein powder, left the cinnamon out, and used PB2… it’s like a party in my mouth haha. I may have to make this for lunch too! :)

  3. Holy mama! I just made the cookie dough cereal for the first time (eating it now!) and it is GLORIOUS! I love the cinnamon-y, almond buttery goodness and all the different textures going on! Changes I made: nixed the protein powder, used agave nectar as the sweetener, and topped with frozen blueberries. This is my new favorite breakfast. I’ll be blogging about this later today! Thanks, G!! :D

Can I use steel cut oats in this recipe? I love your website! :)

  5. I tried this for the first time this morning (a friend linked to this page from twitter because she tried it first) and it was amazing! It filled me up too – which was very surprising! :)

  6. Christine says:

    Hi Gina-

I love this recipe and will be picking up the ingredients to make it tonight! Quick question – what kind of oats do you use? Quick oats? Old fashioned rolled oats?

    Thanks!

  7. I make this every day!! It is SO hard not to eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!! Mmmmm

  8. Pretty much this cereal is my reason for going to the gym in the morning THANK you for creating and sharing!

  9. Made this today and I’m in love. The texture is amazing with the nut butter! I plugged you on my blog :) http://hummusapien.wordpress.com/2011/09/08/a-day-in-the-life/

  10. I am really wanting to try this, but what are oat groats?

  11. yum. i love oatmeal – gives a good boost to keep going all day!

Finally had this about 5 min ago with chia seeds, raisins, almond butter, cinnamon and unsweetened vanilla almond milk. YUMMY!
    make it a great day!

  13. O my goodness, Gina, I just tried b fast cookie dough cereal for the first time… Made my morning! Thanks!

  14. This looks great! But I’m slightly confused.. is this the same thing as old fashioned oat meal but uncooked? I think I’m going to try this for breakfast this week!

  15. I can’t wait to try this because i love your breakfast cookie! :) Do you have the nutrition facts for this?

  16. New to your blog. Just tried this and it’s delicious and healthy. I always have a hard time cramming in protein at breakfast so this is great. Next time I will try oat “flour” (ground up oats) and a whole scoop of protein (I use Progressive Organics Whey in Vanilla) for a good-til-supper version. Thanks!

  17. Gina,
I finally took your advice and bought sunwarrior. Then I tried your breakfast cookie dough cereal. oh. my. god. I’m obsessed! It’s so good!!! Lady, you’re a genius. And not that it has anything to do with the cereal, but since I’m popping out of the woodwork to leave a comment I have to include a congratulations on the birth of your beeeeeautiful baby girl.. and even more beautiful name for her. Sending much health and happiness your way!

  18. I’ve made this twice, and I absolutely love it! I find it actually keeps me satisfied, which doesn’t happen with most breakfasts! I’m not too knowledgeable about Stevia though or what forms it comes in – do you use a powdered form, or liquid form? I’ve been making mine with powdered Equal, but was wondering what it’d be like with something like Agave syrup?

  19. Just tried this this morning and it was delicious! I wasn’t sure about the cold oatmeal thing, but it turned out great! Thanks for sharing!

  20. So I’m late the to serious cereal party, but this stuff is great. I just made it this morning and I’m excited. I HATE oatmeal. I’ve tried in vain to like it, but it’s not really going to happen. But this, I can get behind dry oatmeal mixed with yummy peanut butter and other mix ins.

(I’m so stoked I found your blog, it’s a great resource since I’m adopting a healthier lifestyle)

  21. I’m a little late to the game, but wanted to let you know that the cereal was delicious and filling! I used honey for sweetener and added some dried cranberries. I’ll definitely use this again in the future!

  22. i FINALLY tried this!! I made the original version and it was awesome! I’m so glad I have this in my breakfast arsenal now since I never remember to make the breakfast cookie the night before. :)

  23. I just died and went to foodie heaven! Lucky for me I have all those ingredients except almond milk. Running to the store! Thanks for sharing this!

  24. Hi! I just want to firstly tell you that you’re an inspiration to me! :) So pretty much my situation is i had been eat cleaning for months. to me that meant a meal plan like oats, egg whites, cinnamon, chia seeds for breakfast and lean chicken turkey, sweet potatoes, coconut oil and lots of veggies for other meals. I was very clean and was strict on sodium and macros. i worked out almost every morning and i was lean and toned. i followed lots of your recipes and ideas too!:) but then i went on a three week vacation. i binged everyday. i would stuff myself full of ben and Jerry’s, ritz crackers, peanut m&ms, animal crackers, sushi, chocolate and other junk. i never enjoyed any of it though,i would punish myself by eating. i am depriving myself of veggies, water and wearing makeup because i hate myself now. i am not sure why either. anyway now i crave all that junk. i used to never crave that crap:( i am so frustrated i dont have the small, cute, toned body i used to! i put on 10 lbs!! 10 real lbs, its not water weight cuz its been a while. i am chunky, cellulitely, and self conscious. i have a small frame so 10 lbs looks bad. i am kinda lost in what to do. somedays i just cry myself to sleep because i am so repulsed by the way i look. i want to get out of this rut! i want to be small and lean again, i just feel like i have no self control because i seriously eat so much(emotional though).i cant feel full or hunger so its hard to know when to stop. i feel the desire to eat and i feel cranky when its been over 4 hours.. Anyway, what do you suggest? what are your thoughts? would a strict meal plan help? maybe with a few treats then cut down throughout the week? i am so desperate for help! Well, thank you!

    XOXO,
    Lisa

      hey girl,
thank you so much for reading my blog and i’m so sorry to hear you’re going through this. i definitely recommend seeking help from a local rd or specialist in your area to see if they can help you overcome the emotional side of your dilemma. i’m proud of you for realizing that something is wrong and that you want to take steps to take care of your health and your body. i think the easier you are on yourself, the easier it will be for you to find a balance that helps you achieve your goals while allowing you to enjoy the things you love.
sending the best wishes to you. show yourself love and patience- you deserve kindness from yourself <3

  25. I’ve been needing a new oatmeal breakfast to add to my routine and this one was fantastic and nutritious! What a great combination of everything! I used Vanilla Almond milk and added blueberries and bananas on top- perfection! Thanks for an easy, one bowl recipe!

  26. Hi!!!! My mom and I LOVE your cereal recipe! We eat it everyday! It’s such a creative and amazing recipe!
P.S. Have you ever tried substituting the nut butter for a sweet potato? We tried it and it tasted really good! You’re my inspiration! I love your blog! :)

  27. Found this through Fitness mag’s website! For the “original,” do you cook the oats at all?

  28. Love love LOVE this recipe!
I’ve seen various versions but can’t seem to locate the nutritional content. Any ideas?

  29. for the original, do you just eat the oats as is? not cooked, soaked or anything?

  30. This cereal is so good. Life changer right here!

  31. Hi,

I’ve just discovered your blog. I have been bored with my standard oats for breakfast and stumbled across your cookie dough cereal. I just made it for breakfast and have to say it is just divine. I’m hooked! This Aussie thanks you! We don’t have “cookie dough” stuff in Australian and when I went to the states a few years ago I fell in love with anything cookie dough. Now I can have it for breakfast, just a healthier version.

    Kind regards

    Kylie

  32. Wow, when I stumble across this post I thought it was a joke. Cookie dough for breakfast? But I’m definitely going to try this now.

  33. yumm!! I’ve eaten this cereal for a few times already!!

I added 2T applesauce in addition to 1T peanut butter – so the cookie dough texture is right, but not too much healthy fat calories (I’m watching my macro).

  34. With your cookie dough cereal…how does it cook? You don’t add hot water, or hot milk, or cook it. So how does it cook and dissolve? So curious! :)

  35. How many tbs is half a scoop?

  36. I doubled the recipe and may have quadrupled the peanut butter (Got a little too excited). It turned out delicious. But will go easy on the peanut butter the next time.
