Drink yo greens

Hiiiiii ๐Ÿ˜€ Happy humpday/Indian Food Wednesday! Whoโ€™s celebrating? Iโ€™m actually meeting a friend for Italian for lunch, so for me itโ€™s going to be Italian Food Wednesday ๐Ÿ˜‰

Iโ€™ve created a monster.

bella

The other night, we had the heater on but it was still a little chilly, so in bed, I lightly *tucked* a blanket around Bella so she would stay warm. She didnโ€™t move all night- she was so happy. Iโ€™ve done it a few times with a throw blanket on the couchโ€ฆ and now, whenever sheโ€™s near a blanket, sheโ€™ll scratch at it and then look at me, waiting for me to come tuck her in. What a goofer.

For breakfast, I had the usual green juice:

juice

juice (2)

and some purple oats.

oats

A serving of Bobโ€™s Red Mill GF oats cooked in almond milk, with frozen organic blueberries stirred in (they heat up while the oats finish cooking), and a smidge of organic butter.

oats (2)

So since I stopped being lazy about cleaning the juicer, I think itโ€™s really helped with my energy levels. Iโ€™ve slowly stopped the multiple packs of Via (even though theyโ€™re so delicious!) and havenโ€™t really felt the need for coffee lately. Itโ€™s such an easy way to get fruit and veg servings.

When Iโ€™m in a hurry or just want an extra dose of greenery in my life, Iโ€™ve been enjoying this mixed with water or in smoothies:

greens

Supergreens!
An amazing source of probiotic greens with alfalfa, barley grass, wheatgrass, oatgrass, peppermint and Stevia. Everything is organic, cold-pressed to preserve the nutrients and gluten free.

The color is a little funky

greens (2)

but the taste is LOVELY. Very mild, slightly minty and sweet. Delicious.

Itโ€™s been a good option for me because Iโ€™m pretty choosy with the greens Iโ€™ll juice or put in my smoothies- romaine and spinach are my best bets. Kale tastes like sweaty gym man, and I donโ€™t have a wheatgrass juicer. This is an easy way to get variety and extra nutrients.

If youโ€™ve been wanting to try the Supergreens, make sure to *follow me on OpenSky*- weโ€™ll be sending out an email to the followers with tomorrowโ€™s crazyawesome promo.

Iโ€™m off to the gym ๐Ÿ™‚

See ya later today!

xoxo

Spinach is my all-time fav for juicing and smoothies:)
My pup is a little spoiled punk too-but I love it…gives him character:)

Wish I had a juicer powerful enough to try your combo – although really green, it looks good. Puppers are not on this earth long enough – so we must spoil them! That is really a sweet picture.

    Gina,

I am COMPLETELY new to green smoothies. I usually just make a fruit or choco-flavored (w/PB!) smoothie with Greek yog, almond milk and some whey protein, and throwing some spinach in. What do these *real* green smoothies you make taste like — the ones with lettuce, cukes, etc.? I’m so curious!

    • Fitnessista on January 19, 2011 at 5:33 pm

welcome to the green smoothie world! juices are a little different than smoothies- i use a juicer instead of a blender and all of the skin and pulp is extracted. it’s just the pure fruit and veggie juice. they taste like a refreshing lemonade ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Gina – I love your blog! Thank for sharing great food and workout info. Do you store ur Sun Warrior products in the re-fride or freezer? Peace and Light.

Funny about Bella, my dog tunnels into blankets and I have to be care not to sit on her.

The purple oats look great. I’ve never tried Sun Warrior Supergreens, now I want to.

It wasn’t until I started farming that I realized how crazy different the various types of kale are. Some of them are most definitely not good for a smoothie, but if you ever see Red Russian kale, it has a really neutral and sweet flavor – perfect for smoothies.

I LOOVE your definition of kale and how it tastes like “sweaty gym man”. Bahahaha! At least your pup is small enough that she can curl up on the couch with you; my dogs are 56 pounds and they think they are lap dogs, LMAO

These look great! I prefer to juice/blend the real stuff- romaine for juices is great and i love spinach/stinky kale for smoothies ;)but I love green powders in a pinch! They’re great for travel, too!

I have been having green drinks-spinach, kale, banana, and blackberries all blended up with ice, water, and a splash of lemon juice. It really give me energy like a caffeine pick me up! Love it and I have no problems meeting my veggie needs for the day!

I have been reading many health blogs lately, and yours is my favorite by far!

    • Fitnessista on January 19, 2011 at 7:44 pm

      that sounds delicious!!
      thank you <3

Our dog (bulldog) is completely spoiled as well. He insists on having more blankets then any human even needs. And if he doesn’t have the fireplace on, he’ll pout all day. But we enabled him to be spoiled, so I suppose I can’t complain! ๐Ÿ™‚

I actually really like kale in my smoothies! As long as there is at least 1/2 a banana in there to sweeten in up. Otherwise, I can see where you’re coming from with the sweater gym man reference. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    hi gina,

i know you’ve mentioned before how your juicer is a pain to clean and trust me, i know, i have one as well. i must tell you, if you are ever in the market for a new juicer, the omega vert or hurom are the way to go. they’re basically the same juicer it’s just that one is manufactured in korea (i think) and the other here in the u.s., something like that. here’s a link just in case your interested, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvhGv_xmr1w. (btw … i apologize if i’m some how violating any rules, i’m never quite clear on the posting link thing. i don’t receive any compensation at all, nor am i affiliated with the juicers in any way … other than being a satisfied owner). the omega vert rocked my world. i’m so happy!

Ohhhh! Super greens!! I need to go check that out.

And Miss Bella is SO FREAKIN cute!! She asks to be tucked in … SO cute

  16. Emma on January 20, 2011 at 7:04 am

I just burst into tears looking at the pictures of Bella. My mum called me this afternoon to tell me my dog passed away. Chester used to do the same thing as Bella. He would bury himself under a blanket so just his nose would poke out. I miss him.

      i’m sorry ๐Ÿ™
      sending you love <3

  17. Caroline on January 20, 2011 at 8:37 am

Awww, Bella is so cute! My puppy loves to sleep under blankets. When he was a baby my husband would stick him in his zip-up sweatshirts as a joke and we did it once or twice this winter and he’s addicted! He’s probably about Bella’s size but if I’m sitting still he wants to be under my sweatshirt. Or t-shirt! He’ll nudge at my belly till I let him. So funny (and warm)!

I can NOT wait to get the email about Supergreens…I want some NOW!! Bella is completely adorable. I bet she is the perfect companion for “be lazy” time ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Julie on January 20, 2011 at 10:23 am

Where can you buy the Sunwarrior Supergreens? Would love to try! Oh, and my dog sleeps with a puppy blanket all day/night. It’s adorable.

thanks for that something to think quote. i was thinking about things along those same lines recently then i saw your quote:)

  21. Toronto Girl West on January 20, 2011 at 10:00 pm

lol That’s hilarious – my Daisy does the same thing! In fact every night when the Husband and I go to bed, Daisy scratches at the blanket right between the two of us. She’s happy when she gets in.

Thankfully she doesn’t stay there all night long – just long enough to cuddle. And then she goes to the foot of the bed to sleep! ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Kristie on January 21, 2011 at 7:47 pm

Haha… I used to tuck my labrador in on cold mornings and he LOVED it! My FIL visited one weekend and FREAKED OUT when he saw Happy all bundled up like a burrito. He told everyone at home that we had the most talented dog in the world! ๐Ÿ™‚
