Superman shorts + meals/fitness

Good morning! Hope you’re having a lovely Sunday so far. The girls (madre, nana, Livi and myself) are off to Phoenix for a cousin’s shower. It should be a blast ๐Ÿ™‚

Before road trips or any type of traveling, I always like to wake up a little early to shake my legs out. This morning, my alarm went off bright and early, and I set off for Sabino Canyon.

The weather was absolutely gorgeous, and it was the perfect way to wake up.

Cactus

(Another bonus about early workouts: I don’t usually realize what I’m doing until it’s almost over. I’m done for the day before it’s officially begun!)

I’ll be back later with some weekend and shower pics, but here are a couple from yesterday:

Green juice,

Green juice 1 of 1 5

(the energizing combo I posted the other day)

gelato, which we enjoyed after a beautiful dinner at North,

Frostgelato

and my latest and greatest embarrassing moment. (If you follow me on Instagram, you already know the gist, haha)

Some Sunday comedy for ya:

I spent yesterday morning with the Pilot and Liv and then headed to the gym for an hour before the Wildcats game. I was feeling pretty tired and out of it after taking care of sick Livi all week -we went to the ped on Friday and turns out the poor girl had an ear infection. She is SO much better now!!- so instead of doing cardio, I decided to lift heavy weights for the hour. I got in an awesome workout, but couldn’t help but feel like the muscle dudes were staring at me. I have to tell you that a thought in my head was, “Yeah! Mama’s still got it.”ย

Later during the afternoon, the Pilot said, “So I’ve been wondering this, but what’s up with your shorts?”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, they’re doing this weird thing on the sides.”

“That’s ventilation. Duh.”

“No. THIS.”ย

And he pointed to the tight portion of my shorts. I had them on BACKWARDS, all day (!!!) and the little underwear liner thing was on the OUTSIDE, Superman-style. The people at the gym either thought I was totally insane, trying to start a new trend, or some combination of the two.

Shorts fail

We laughed so hard we had tears rolling down our faces. Holy fail.

For meals and fitness this week, I’m not planning a ton since I’ll be traveling. I have some ideas for snacks for Livi that I’ll freeze, along with my favorite airplane snacks:

Amazeballs (they travel so well)

-Nut butter packs

-Protein packs

-Apples and bananas

-Fruit leather

-Turkey jerky

I don’t like to bring a ton of food with me -that’s valuable clothes space and the 13 pairs of shoes I’ll inevitably bring- but it’s nice to have healthy options on hand during a flight or layover.

Are you planning and prepping for the week?ย

Favorite healthy travel snacks or airport food??

Embarrassing gym moments? ๐Ÿ˜‰

See ya later today!

xoxo

Gina

OMG!!! I’ve had the same experience!!! I get dressed for the gym practically in the dark, so I don’t wake up my boyfriend.. and sure enough, I had my lulu shorts — with the LINER– on the outside! YEAH, mortifying!!!!! LOL! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Susan on March 9, 2014 at 1:39 pm

I laughed so hard when I saw the shorts on twitter last night. Thanks for the comedic relief!

  4. Tracy on March 9, 2014 at 1:41 pm

I’m laughing out loud over here!! You totally made my day!

I once realized I had a dryer sheet hanging out of the bottom/back of my Nike tempo shorts! I didn’t realize until I was getting undressed. All who noticed probably assumed it was toilet paper!!

    • Fitnessista on March 10, 2014 at 12:54 am

      hahah oh nooooo

  5. Megan on March 9, 2014 at 1:42 pm

Haven’t done shorts, but totally done the inside out shirt…. Kept wondering why I felt something when I’d adjust my shirt, then halfway through I looked down and realized it was inside out!

  6. Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs on March 9, 2014 at 1:44 pm

Oh man, your shorts story is SO FUNNY! Nothing like a public gym fail — I’ve certainly had my fair share ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Kristen on March 9, 2014 at 1:46 pm

Maybe the people at the gym thought you were one of those people (I’m sure they exist!) who just turn your clothes inside out when they’re dirty instead of doing laundry!! Haha
At least you didn’t realize it until later so you probably actually looked really confident….which kind of makes it even more hilarious!
Have a fun girls’ day at the shower!

  8. Bailey on March 9, 2014 at 1:47 pm

Hey gina, what do you mean by protein packs?? That sounds like something I could get into!

    • marla on March 9, 2014 at 4:22 pm

I would like to know too!

      Love your story and that you were willing to share it. It’s amazing how many people do the same thing. :}

    • Fitnessista on March 10, 2014 at 12:54 am

just the individual packs of protein powder ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Kaila @healthyhelperblog! on March 9, 2014 at 1:48 pm

OMG fully LOLing at the shorts. That is so funny! Thanks for sharing. I especially love the “mama’s still got it” thought ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Shay @ Whine Less, Breathe More on March 9, 2014 at 1:52 pm

THAT is hilarious! I love that you noticed people checking you out and just kept rocking it. HA!

  13. Beth on March 9, 2014 at 2:13 pm

I’ve put my shorts on inside out before going to the gym. Luckily, it was a late workout and no one was there not notice. ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Kate on March 9, 2014 at 2:52 pm

Hahaha that’s awesome! Glad to hear Livi is feeling better. Ear infections are no fun…my 2 year old is on her second set of ear tubes and my 6 month old just got over her second ear infection, so we are no stranger to them!

    • Fitnessista on March 10, 2014 at 12:52 am

awww man. it’s the worst i think we’ve been through. hope it gets better for you!!

  15. Meg on March 9, 2014 at 2:55 pm

Oh my gosh, your shorts story is hilarious! You probably just started the next big fad!

  16. Shayna on March 9, 2014 at 3:07 pm

I wore my Wunder Unders inside out to the gym! And they have that huge long tag? Had NOOOOOO idea, but people were checking my out, I was struttin’, whatever….until I hit the elliptical and this little old lady next to me starts cackling and goes, “hahahaha, you have a TAIL! Is that supposed to be like that?” And then I wanted to melt into the floor. So awful. I owned it, though. Finished my workout with my tail and everything.

    • Amanda on March 9, 2014 at 9:50 pm

Did you know you’re supposed to remove that tag on the lulu clothes? My friend who works there pointed it out to me when my tag was hanging out of my tank top! It makes it so much more comfortable and then you can wear it inside out! Just a tip ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Shayna on March 10, 2014 at 1:12 am

Tags are now out of all my pants. Thanks for that! Tail no more…

        • Fitnessista on March 10, 2014 at 1:32 am

(if it makes you feel better, i didn’t learn that trick until i worked there. everyone was like, “you know you can rip those out, right?” oops. ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

  17. Stephanie on March 9, 2014 at 3:24 pm

Whenever I get stared at by any guy at the gym I alternate between thinking they are impressed with my strength and worrying that I have a hole in the butt of my shorts or something. Now they stare because I’m 6 months preggers. Lol

  18. JC on March 9, 2014 at 4:27 pm

I love it! I’m belly laughing out loud over here! I’ve yet to do that, but I have had similar mishaps…like wearing 2 different color clogs to work. A black and a brown ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Carrie on March 9, 2014 at 4:28 pm

That story made me smile today. Very funny!

  20. Shari on March 9, 2014 at 4:29 pm

My my gosh you had me in tears!!! That is totally something I would do!!!

  21. Katie on March 9, 2014 at 4:51 pm

GINA!!!! You made my afternoon, I have tears in my eyes!!! hahahah ๐Ÿ™‚ New fashion that’s for sure ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Fitnessista on March 10, 2014 at 12:51 am

      seaweed snacks! brilliant ๐Ÿ™‚

  25. Kim on March 9, 2014 at 5:25 pm

I can’t even express to you how much this made me laugh! I read it and felt like I was back in 8-9th grade where everything is humiliating, like when I walked into class with my entire skirt (not just the back) tucked into my tights… or in college when at a pool party I had to go pee and put toliet paper on the seat and it ended up tucked in to my bikini bottom….. Lord help me, I think I would still turn red if I thought about it long enough.

    • Fitnessista on March 10, 2014 at 12:50 am

that’s how i felt when i realized it, too! flashback to walking down a line of desks with toilet paper stuck to my shoe ๐Ÿ™‚

  26. April on March 9, 2014 at 5:27 pm

Hilarious! It’s a good thing you’re moving out of state ๐Ÿ˜‰

hahah just so i can embarrass myself at the next military establishment ๐Ÿ˜‰

  27. Brittany on March 9, 2014 at 5:29 pm

When you travel with Amazeballs do you have to refrigerate them? I love them, but have yet to take ’em on a plane or road trip with me in fear that they will get all mushy! Any tips?

    • Fitnessista on March 10, 2014 at 12:49 am

i store them in a covered container instead of baggies and put them in the fridge as soon as i get wherever i’m going. works out really well!

  28. Sara @ LovingOnTheRun on March 9, 2014 at 6:21 pm

I think you rock it very well! ๐Ÿ™‚ At least you got a good laugh out of it!

  29. Jenni on March 9, 2014 at 7:52 pm

Oh my god, that is too hilarious about your shorts. I almost think it’s better you didn’t realize until later. It would have made it even more awkward at the gym if you went to the bathroom, turned them out, and then continued working out. Haha! As for travel food, bars tend to be my go-to, but that’s not saying anything new! Dehydrated raw snacks are also good travel companions. Or anything nutrient-dense that doesn’t have to be refrigerated. I recently fell in love with roasted edamame. They make travel pouches so they’re easy to throw in a purse. High in protein and so tasty.

  30. Shaina Anderson on March 9, 2014 at 8:11 pm

bahahahahaha oh THAT is amazing. “Soooo I’ve been wondering…” haha

We just got back from a whirlwind week of traveling to Houston and San Fransisco – Tripp was a champ! – and had a little schmorgezborg in my carryon. I made a bag of trail mix (raw pecans, cashews, dried cranberries and some O’s), packed a few clementines, some bars, salted almonds, and the infamous bunny snacks.

    • Fitnessista on March 10, 2014 at 12:48 am

ohhh great snacks!! and the bunniesโ€ฆ we always have to have them on hand ๐Ÿ˜‰ glad tripp was awesome for you, too!

  31. gina on March 9, 2014 at 9:14 pm

Gina!!! This is why I love to read your blog! I can always count on you to brighten up my day!!! Hugs – your friend Gina (from Massachusetts)

      thank you, fellow gina ๐Ÿ˜‰

  32. Rebecca on March 9, 2014 at 9:16 pm

Your story made me belly laugh…you are the best.
In exchange…I will offer you my most embarrassing gym moment. I was reading on my phone while walking over a treadmill that was free. Without looking up, I go to take a step on it, and fly forward, then backwards, and land right on my butt…because someone had left the treadmill ON. Oh the shame! I pay more attention now ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Fitnessista on March 10, 2014 at 12:47 am

      omgggggg!!! hahaha

  33. Megan @ TheSkinny-Life on March 9, 2014 at 10:03 pm

OMG! I saw your pic on Instagram last night & died laughing. That is classic! So I’ve traveled 10 yrs every week for my job. I’m a pro at packing healthy snacks. I always pack apples, nuts, granola bars, nut butter packs, carrot sticks. Fruit leather?

    • Fitnessista on March 10, 2014 at 12:46 am

yep! i’ll grab a few packs at whole foods

  34. Kathy on March 9, 2014 at 10:20 pm

Oh where to start…workout pants on backwards, thong clinging to pants from the dryer..etc etc. We’ve all done it…just gotta laugh and keep moving!

    • Fitnessista on March 10, 2014 at 12:45 am

sometimes all you can do is laugh ๐Ÿ™‚

  35. Jennifer on March 9, 2014 at 10:23 pm

Yes!!!!! Love that you kept on rocking it, so great to remember not to take ourselves too seriously! ๐Ÿ™‚ Safe travels to Phoenix, love the ideas for travel snacks. Still smiling over this awesome moment

    • Fitnessista on March 10, 2014 at 12:45 am

it was equally horrifying and amazing haha

  36. Sarahf on March 10, 2014 at 12:00 am

    • Fitnessista on March 10, 2014 at 12:45 am

heh heh. for your sake, i hope you won’t ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Sarahf on March 10, 2014 at 7:54 am

I’ll admit to checking my shorts, several times, before heading out of the locker room today! I just moved here, I don’t want to get a reputation too quickly! ๐Ÿ˜€

  37. Josie on March 10, 2014 at 1:46 am

OMGGGG That is so hilarious about your shorts!!!! LMAOO I feel like I could easily make that mistake too sometimes when I rush off to the gym. haha

  38. Lexie on March 10, 2014 at 6:41 am

Well, Mama does still have it :). This is the best way to start my Monday!!

    Hahaha that is too funny!!!

  40. Heather on March 10, 2014 at 10:25 am

I wore my just below the knee, hot pink and black, compression pants inside out last week to crossfit. We are just about to start the WOD when I figured it out and yelled “don’t start, my britches are on wrong!”. That is what I get for getting dressed in the dark. LOL

  41. Meg @ A Dash of Meg on March 10, 2014 at 1:40 pm

hell ya you still got it baby! you’re the hottest mama i know

  42. Lauren @ Focused To Be Fit on March 10, 2014 at 3:48 pm

Hahaha, Gina, this is hilarious! Thank God you found out AFTERWARD. I would’ve ran out of the gym so fast, hah!

  43. Melissa on March 10, 2014 at 4:11 pm

    OMG—DYING over here!!!

That makes my falling off of the treadmill story look like nothing!

To clarify/elaborate: I was doing intervals and was doing that “hop to put your feet on either side of the belt” to grab a quick drink of water. Well, despite having done that move hundreds of times over the years, this time my foot missed and somehow I was “flying Superman style” off the treadmill…one hand still gripping the bar. There was one other person in the cardio room a few treadmills down and she didn’t even blink/look my direction/say anything. Not sure how she missed the giant “thunks” or image of me flailing around in the mirroe but I looked around and figured since I wasn’t bleeding I should finish the workout before I got too sore!

  44. Lindsey on March 11, 2014 at 5:22 pm

When I was traveling I was surprised by how many places now have places with so many healthy options. It’s a good thing being healthy is becoming a trend. In O’Hare they have a yoga room now too, it makes me excited seeing how much easier it to stay on track now when traveling.

  45. Liz @lizziefit_ on March 12, 2014 at 8:10 am

I just died at your shorts! At least you guys could laugh about it ๐Ÿ˜‰

  46. Brianna K. @ Hungy Gator Gal on March 14, 2014 at 11:12 am

Your shorts! LMAO. I had my own moment Thursday when I nearly fell doing a box jump on a box that wasn’t level. Scraped and bruised my shin BIG time. Luckily, it doesn’t hurt, but I felt like an idiot with everyone staring at me as I caught myself. #epicfail
