Beach burrito + quick weights circuit
When family comes to visit us in San Diego, we take them on incredible adventures to places they’ve never been before.
(Tarjay.)
Ok, we’ll take them to the beach, too 😉
Today was beach day, and the weather was absolute perfection: sunny with a cool breeze. It was also a first for Liv: she went into the ocean! Usually she’ll sprint up to the waves and back, careful not to get her feet wet, but today, she was jumping over little waves and popping the bubbles with her toes. So much fun.
My little beach burrito:
I’m having a lot of fun showing nana around our neighborhood. (Madre has already been here and knows what’s nearby.) We had Tiki Port this afternoon after the beach, and I also want to take them to see the sea lions, to OB Noodle House (our current fave dinner spot) and Taverna. It’s also been wonderful just to hang out here at the house and spend time with each other; the best part of all 🙂
This morning, I blasted a quick workout and wrote this morning’s post before starting breakfast for the fam. Here’s a quick weights blitz that I did in the garage:
It only took about 30 minutes, and was the perfect little burn to start the day 🙂 Let me know if you give it a try!
I’m off to enjoy some of the treats they brought:
(magazine stash and chocolate)
Enjoy the rest of your day!
xoxo

I noticed the Spanish language magazine. Are you bilingual? If so, hope you are raising Olivia to be as well!!
yes, my family speaks spanish. i read books to liv in spanish, but don’t speak it around the house as often as i should. now that mom and nana are here, they’re brushing up on her español 😉
That’s awesome. Bilingual LITERACY is even more critical than spoken proficiency. Way to give her a head start on school, as well as life. As a language teacher, I encourage you to speak (and read) as much Spanish to her as possible!
I’m bilingual too but I don’t speak around the house because my fiance only speaks english. I was just thinking the other day that I should just teach him so I can use it regularly (my spanish is getting rusty). Is that selfish? lol
That’s so great that you are passing it on to Liv! I grew up in a bilingual household and I used to love listening to my mom and nana talk/gossip. My sister refuses to speak spanish or even enbrace our heritage and it makes me sad that my nephew will never know about that so I try to expose him when he comes to visit.
I also just wanted to say (and this is probably going to sound weird) but I one of the things that I love about this blog (and you!) is that you are such a caring mom that exposes Liv to so many new things. Seeing your adventures makes me smile and reminds me of my wonderful childhood because my mom raised me in a similar manner and I feel so blessed to have had the childhood that I did. 🙂
haha i felt the same way when we lived in valdosta. no one spoke spanish, and it made me miss home even more, so i seriously debated asking the pilot to learn and speak it with me 🙂
thank you for such a sweet compliment. i’m having so much fun with that little lady, and it reminds me of the fun i used to have with my mom and family, too 🙂
xoxo
i adore you so much! so happy you’re happy taking your mom and nana around 😀 makes me smile. and your ARMS. yes i can just see a piece in the pic but….hott mama
I adore your workouts!!!!!
haha that is the cutest burrito I’ve ever seen!!
Were you live looks so amazing! I am jealous 🙂
i’m so glad your mom and nana were able to visit! family time is the best, so i’m sure livi is enjoying every moment with her nanas 🙂
i love the beach pictures (liv is such a cute little beach burrito :)). i’m in southern california, as well, and feel so blessed to live here.
What a cute beach burrito! 😉 I wish I lived near a beach. It would be so nice and relaxing to visit on a beautiful day!
That workout looks AWESOME (and a little scary)! I am planning to test it out tomorrow AM before work…hopefully I survive to make it to the office!
how’d it go??? 🙂
Oooh you have to take them to Mt Soledad. BEST view of SD, La Jolla, downtown…hands down! Im in town til Sunday let me know if you want me show you up there.
I still need to hit up Tiki port.
email me if you’ll be at tiki port and maybe i can meet you! i’m teaching zumba tonight, too
Oh, the beach is SO beautiful!!! You’re so lucky to live there!
Magazines and chocolate are one of the best combos, definitely.
Chocolate and magazines are two of my favorite ways to relax. Enjoy your family time!
That is so cool that you are bilingual and teaching Livi. I hope to teach my baby-to-be other languages, although I am only semi-fluent in Spanish.
it’s fun to expose them to different things, especially because they soak it all in
you have no idea how much I’m loving reading about your SD adventures lately! My sister is trying to move there ASAP (if she can find a teaching job) so we’re going to visit in June, I have never even been to CA before so I’m super excited to go even just for 3 days, haha. This colorado girl needs to go to the BEACH.
you will love it here!!
Sand Diego looks awesome! I’m so glad you’re enjoying time with your family!
thank you! hope you’re having a great week, too!
A couple questions about the workout: are you supposed to do each set three times before moving to the next one? Or, go through the whole circuit and repeat 2 more times? Also, is a full weighted situp done holding one of the weights? Thanks so much–this is a great home workout!
each set three times before the next one. let me know if you try it!
I wasn’t sure if you spoke Spanish, but you must based on the magazines I saw there! I speak Spanish too. I am so jealous of your gorgeous ocean! Although I do love the desert so much too.
el desierto y el mar son igualmente diferente y hermosos en el mismo tiempo.
estoy de acuerdo!
You post the best workouts! I love that they are always simple, quick, and not-boring at all. I just knocked it out, and it was difficult to wash my hair afterwards from jello arms!
All the cool people hang out at Target, don’t you know? 😉
I did the strength blitz this morning before yoga. It was a great workout and I had just enough time!
Liv is so fortunate to learn Spanish!
I love the beach pictures and you’re cute little beach burrito 🙂
Hey Gina!
DO you have any leg suggestions instead of the squats? I ran the race for the cure last weekend and tweaked my heel & it is still a little sore, so this workout seems really good for me to do!
Also, what are full weighted sit ups?
Thanks!
What program do you use to make your workout images? Looks like a great day at the beach. Magazines and chocolate are my essentials too. 🙂
Dark chocolate is a guilty pleasure and relaxing with magazines definitely sounds like what I am going to do on my next day off. I also love your quick exercise routines, super easy to follow and adds variation into my routine!
Thanks so much for posting this workout, I just finished it (barely!). I often get bored with my workouts and always look forward to trying new things, thank you! : )
haha i used to read vanidades a while back! me too enjoying the beach in so cal so great!
Can’t wait to try this workout out 🙂
I love hanging with my mom. I love living close to her now. 🙂
