Sparklers, Cocktails and Cake

Heyyyyyy Smile Happy Sunday! How’s your morning going??

We went to a gorgeous wedding last night. <3

sparklers

I love LOVE and live for weddings, so I’ve been excited about this one for a while! Most of our military friends are married already.

The event was held at the Pima Air and Space Museum, which was such a cool venue. It was amazing to look at all of the old planes, especially the Pilot’s Winking smile

plane (2)

The ceremony was in one of the hangars, underneath the plane “Sentimental Journey”.

After the ceremony (in which I bawled my eyes out), we went into a separate hanger for the reception.

wedding

Don’t mind it I do… Smile

Dinner was a simple salad:

salad

Grilled veggies, mashed potatoes and wheaty bun

veg

They also brought me over the vegan plate, which had roasted mushroom, tofu and more veggies.

I’ve been having a bit of a dilemma with the gluten thing lately. My doc said I’m intolerant so he told me to lay off the gluten, but it doesn’t really bother me that much and we all know I enjoy things with gluten in them. I decided that instead of avoiding it 100%, I’m going to roll with it on an occasional basis. Also, I don’t want to get to the point where a single crumb bothers me, ya know?

And then the best part of any wedding:

cake

CAAAAAKE Open-mouthed smile

I always joke that even though our wedding was an incredible day, cake tasting was the best day of my life Winking smile Wedding cake rocks my universe.

Last night was filled with dancing (Cupid Shuffle is my jam, but apparently I need to learn the dougie? Off to YouTube…), chatting, cocktailing, enjoying.. but certainly missing my Pilot love.

This morning, I’m off to pump some crazy iron and spin, then meeting my little nana for breakfast. <3

See ya later today!  Smile

xoxo,

Gina

Sounds like a beautiful wedding! I’m so not a cake person so although I don’t have any idea what my future wedding will look like (not to mention who I will be marrrying! ha) I know that I will have some unique to cake dessert. I am a big brownie fan… 😉

Hope you and your pilot love are reunited soon!

    • Fitnessista on December 19, 2010 at 2:18 pm

not a cake person?! we’re still friends, though 😉

  2. Emma (Sweet Tooth Runner) on December 19, 2010 at 10:29 am

Looks like a great wedding! Especially that cake…! 😉
That’s a grogeous dress by the way! You look lovely 🙂

  3. Krystina (Basil & Wine) on December 19, 2010 at 10:35 am

That wedding looks gorgeous; I’m glad you had fun. 🙂

I’ve been trying to limit my gluten too because I find that it sits really heavy when I eat too much. I find making little swaps (millet bread, gluten free grains and more protein) makes a big difference.

  4. Sarra on December 19, 2010 at 10:36 am

aww you look so pretty! please don’t ever get rid of your bangs, gorgeous! 😉

  5. lisa on December 19, 2010 at 10:37 am

    Hi!
That is exactly what I do w/ gluten. You will find that life is much more live-able 🙂 I agree with Krystina re the swaps… I avoid it as much as I can. I am ‘intolerant’ of it as well…
You look beautiful in the picture.

  6. Christin@purplebirdblog on December 19, 2010 at 10:43 am

What a fun looking wedding!! And man, those bangs are still so BANGIN’! *whompwhomp* 😀

  7. Jessica on December 19, 2010 at 10:44 am

That looks like so much fun! Glad AZ is working out!

  8. BIOCHEMISTA on December 19, 2010 at 10:49 am

How were you tested for your gluten intolerance? Did you get your antibody titers tested? I would def see a traditional doc if you’ve only seen a homeopathic one. If you have celiacs it’s not something to mess around with. I work on a transplant unit where small bowel transplants are frequent, and trust me – you do not want that kind of surgery 😉

    • Fitnessista on December 19, 2010 at 2:17 pm

four samples of a dna test. one of the results was the body’s ability to process gluten and i was right on the border, so he told me to take it easy with it. i haven’t been tested for celiac because i’m pretty positive i don’t have it

      • BIOCHEMISTA on December 19, 2010 at 4:26 pm

If it’s not too much of a pain for you, I’d get tested. Even people with a gluten intolerance are candidates for colon cancer. It’s pretty scary stuff. If you develop symptoms later in life that means you have acquired damage to your intestines. Symptoms = unnecessary shedding of cells = higher risk of cancer. If it was me I’d get a more definitive test before you go back to gluten-friendly ways. If anything it’s better to be safe than sorry. 🙂

    • mi-an dela cruz on December 19, 2010 at 4:17 pm

i agree with biochemista’s comment. I went to allopathic med school and i learned that for initial diagnostic tests for celiac, you do blood test for anti-tissue transglutamase, anti-endomysium antibodies and Iga. I’ve never heard of dna test via saliva. and if those autoantibodies are high, we do a biopsy of the small bowel to confirm it.

The cake is always my most favorite part of the reception dinner!

  10. Nicole @ Making Good Choices on December 19, 2010 at 10:49 am

That wedding looks so beautiful and unique! I love when I get more than one use out of a dress, I’m guilty of wearing dresses once and never again.

  11. Jackie on December 19, 2010 at 10:53 am

Gina I love that dress! Would you be able to tell us where it’s from?

    • Fitnessista on December 19, 2010 at 2:16 pm

      republic of banana 🙂

  12. Diana on December 19, 2010 at 10:57 am

So glad you said the best part of the wedding was the cake! I always say that but feel guilty like the real best part should be the true love of the couple or something. lol 🙂

  13. grocery goddess jen on December 19, 2010 at 11:00 am

I really love your new bangs. I loved them the first day you showed the pic, but didn’t say anything, but I wanted to tell you now 🙂

Sorry you miss the Pilot love. I hope he’s coming back soon. Or that you’re at least more than halfway done with your time away from him 🙂

    • Fitnessista on December 19, 2010 at 2:16 pm

      thank you!

  14. Jessica @ Jessica Balances on December 19, 2010 at 11:01 am

Looks like a gorgeous wedding in an interesting venue! 🙂 and you look lovely in your dress, as always. You seem like you’re loving life in Tuscon! <3

  15. Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) on December 19, 2010 at 11:06 am

That last pic of you…the dress, the bangs, the expression…SMOKIN HOT there Miss Gina! 🙂

Gluten..if you can deal with it and not suffer the consequences and have major tummy distress, then by all means, enjoy! I wish I could, but sigh, nope.

Because that cake looks sooo good! Anything with a layer of jelly frosting…mmmm, good!

    Enjoy your Sunday! 🙂

  16. Cassie @ A Very Busy Mind on December 19, 2010 at 11:13 am

Bahhh forgot about the bangs! Seriously love.

Oh, and what a cool wedding! Must have been hard for you (sans Pilot), but at least there was the Cupid Shuffle… 😉

  17. Faith @ lovelyascharged on December 19, 2010 at 11:22 am

That sounds like such a fun wedding – what a unique venue! I love the cupid shuffle – I have some awesome memories of teaching it to my 3rd and 4th graders along with my interns last year on spring break…priceless!

  18. Jordana on December 19, 2010 at 11:26 am

The Dougie is impossible to learn. It doesn’t make any sense! I hate going to weddings with my husband, makes me sad 🙁

  19. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on December 19, 2010 at 11:32 am

Okay, first of all I’m LOVING the bangs on you- that picture is gorgeous!! Weddings are always so fun, and I always cry my eyes out too. It’s such a wonderful celebration of love and life. Oh, and one of the biggest bummers EVER was the fact that I barely got to eat any of my brother’s wedding cake. I was already stuffed so only took a bite expecting to come back and finish it later, but they’d cleared all the plates by the time I returned!!

  20. Bethany @ More Fruit Please on December 19, 2010 at 11:36 am

What a cool setting to hold a wedding! I love unique venues for special occasions! And I never wanted bangs for myself until seeing you with them! I don’t think I have the right hair to pull it off, but boy, I wish I did!

  21. aubrey on December 19, 2010 at 11:40 am

Thats what I love about you. You never take things overboard which is also unhealthy. Your my idol:) Thanks for everything:)

that looked like such a beautiful wedding! food look delicious too!

  30. Sara (Running with Teaspoons) on December 19, 2010 at 1:25 pm

Hey Gina! I have two friends who have a gluten intolerance, and both of them say that they really only feel bad when it builds up in their system. So, if they want cake or a good beer every once in a while, they totally go for it! Both of them report that if they have, say, one piece of cake every wee but no gluten, they don’t feel bad at all! Of course some people have really severe allergies and it wouldn’t work for them – but maybe you can just go low on the gluten and not have any side effects!

    • Fitnessista on December 19, 2010 at 2:14 pm

good to know!! that’s def the plan 🙂

  31. lindsay on December 19, 2010 at 1:30 pm

oh I love weddings too! Such a fun time. And even though I am gluten intolerant, I always eat the cake. I figure its worth it. hehe!

  34. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on December 19, 2010 at 1:59 pm

What a cool wedding! The sparklers are very cool. I just need to get on with the finding a guy thing before I start planning my wedding 😉

    • Fitnessista on December 19, 2010 at 2:14 pm

ehhh i say go ahead and plan it 🙂

  35. Kristin on December 19, 2010 at 2:38 pm

Cake is definitely the best part of a wedding. I’m a wedding photographer, and I truly believe that if I didn’t have to see wedding cake at work, I’d be a lot thinner. 😉

  36. kristi (sweet cheeks) on December 19, 2010 at 2:52 pm

Gosh, I love your bangs!! They look adorable on you!

  37. Jaclyn on December 19, 2010 at 3:13 pm

Gina, your hair… you are totally rockin the new look – LOVE it! Glad you had a great time! Love wedding cake too, for sure the best part lol 😉 Looks like they had a nice veg/vegan spread toO, pretty unusual for weddings right??

Who was the bride? A HS friend or Tom’s work friends??

    Have a great Sunday 😀

  38. Katie~RunfortheBikini on December 19, 2010 at 3:18 pm

Looks like an awesome wedding!! You are absolutely stunning, and now I want to go get my bangs 😀

  39. Jules on December 19, 2010 at 4:03 pm

omg, you look gorgeous in that last photo!!! I love your dress and your hairstyle 🙂

Just fyi, gluten is in everything 🙁 like even in california sushi rolls (it’s in the fake crab) so you’re probably getting more than you think. But if it doesn’t bother you much, I don’t see the problem? Only if you feel sick from it.

  40. Katie on December 19, 2010 at 4:08 pm

Love Weddings and Love the wedding cake!! I especially love to when they have a cookie table and you get to take cookies home in a bag! Im going to be cake tasting in the new year for my wedding! Im excited!

Glad you had a great time at the wedding! xoxo

That was such a cool wedding location! My brother-in-law is a pilot too and he would have loved it! I am with you on the wedding cake! Cookies I can resist, brownies and pie too, but classic wedding cake is my ultimate weakness!!!

  44. Kristina on December 19, 2010 at 5:52 pm

I’m getting married in May and just had my cupcake tasting (yes i’m milking it for all i’ve got and having cupcakes and wedding cake)…The vegan cupcake tasting is def going down as a GREAT DAY!

I was wondering how long you would last without gluten! 😉 I have a friend who is gluten intolerant who also eats it occasionally. It seems to work out for her, so hopefully you’ll be ok with it too!

  48. Amber L on December 19, 2010 at 9:58 pm
