Frosty, the Ice Cream
Hiiiii 😀 How’s your day goin’? I loved reading your tips on this morning’s post- amazing words of wisdom. Thank you 🙂
Mine day has been pretty lovely, since ice cream was involved.
Chocolate Cherry Bomb protein ice cream <3
Heaby’s protein ice cream reminds me of a Wendy’s frosty… and I really, really like that 🙂
This morning, I was supposed to have an intro training sesh with a new gym member and she no-call-no-showed…
So I pumped some iron:
Shoulders, Chest and Triceps
Elliptical | Level 6 | 10 minutes |
Overhead shoulder drops alternated with tricep dips | 10 lbs each/ body weight | 3 sets of 12 |
Circuit: | ||
Upward rows | 10 lbs each | 3 sets of 12 |
Dumbbell nosebreakers | 8 lbs each | 3 sets of 12 |
Supine chest press | 8 lbs each | 3 sets of 12 |
Stability ball side laying raise | 5 lbs | 3 sets of 12 |
Stability ball push-ups | body weight | 3 sets of 12 |
Total time: 35 minutes |
Then came back to the casa and made tonight’s dinner.
I love when I get a break during the day and can make dinner in advance- this way, the pilot and I can enjoy each other’s company at night. Or in today’s case, because I’m going to see Eclipse (again) with Jeni 😉
I grabbed the garbanzo beans that soaked overnight:
and simmered them in a large pot with water, cloves of garlic (I just wrote “gloves of garlic”) and sea salt for an hour:
While the garbanzo beans were doing their thang, I made a simple chopped Greek salad to go with tonight’s falafel.
–2 tomatoes (from a client’s dad’s garden)
–1 cucumber
–Green and kalamata olives
–parsley
-red bell pepper
–white wine vinegar, olive oil, sea salt, oregano, olive oil and Garlic Gold
+ yogurt coriander sauce for the Pilot’s falafel (TWSS? Heh heh)
I did some stuff around the casa and then the garbanzos were reader for their falafel (fal-awesome) destiny.
Instead of saying I “adapted” this from so-and-so recipe, just *click here*. All I did differently was use hemp seeds instead of sesame and spelt flour instead of wheat 😉
The falafel dough (batter? mix?) is in the fridge and when the pilot gets home, we’ll pan-sear it up and I’ll have mine plain and he’ll have his on pita bread with yogurt coriander sauce and Greek salad for both of us. Sahweet.
Lunch:
Smoked salmon, egg puff with Dijon, and arugula with Garlic Gold vinaigrette (I’m obsessed).
Remember when I said I was going to try to just have seafood twice a week?
Well, that didn’t really work out 😉 I just love it too much.
I’m heading back to work to train and do cardio, coming back for Falafel Feast 2010 and then ECLIPSE!
xoxo,
Gina

The first time I had falafel I also had a bit of a gyro. Which I mistakenly let someone else order for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it all until they told me that the meat was lamb. I nearly cried.
i love falafel. i wanted it so bad one night in nyc that i ran through the streets at 2am right before it closed, fell in my 4 in heels, and have a scar to prove it. but i got my falafel 🙂 hehehe
and that my friend is reason #19208462 i would like to live in nyc
I have never tried falafel, although I’m feeling inspired to now!
Hi there!
I was just watching your Zumba videos and thought to myself. You never told us how going to the other instructors Zumba class went. If you did I totally missed it, what with the crazy holiday weekend and all. Just curious of what you thought! I love your Zumba moves and have used them in my classes!
it was… meh.
the teacher was cute but it was very different. much slower paced
I had protein ice cream/faux frosty for the first time last night–’twas a dream come true! Also I’m watching Eclipse tonight!!
Homemade falafel is the BEST! Loving your chopped greek salad. Sounds and LOOKS delish!
Thank you for always suggesting new moves. I seem to get stuck in total ruts with strength training. I love it & do it 3x a week at least, but feel like after 2/3 weeks, I am doing the same moves over and over. Even just changing up the order inspires me! You are the best!
I have never had a falafel…they look sooo good to me. I must change that!
So weird I am making falafels tonight too! I was thinking how I have been eating fish for the past 5 days everyday and I need to stop eating it so much, glad I’m not the only one having this issue.
Great articles G! Some very interesting stuff in there.
I was thinking about some Greek for dinner!? Great minds ? 😉
Darn girl…you get to see Eclipse again….lucky! I LOVED that movie! Enjoy!
cloves of garlic = heaven. and i saw you ate handfuls of garlic gold this morning…as if anyone could blame you!
No call, no show? That would frustrate me SO much! At least you made good use of your extra time 🙂 You eat so clean, it kills me! Love it. And stupid question…how do you cook/smoke your salmon? And that faux frosty looks to DIE for–haven’t had one in years!
I’ve never had falafel either, but it looks and sounds delicious!
Summer is the best time for ice creams. 😀
gina,
-sorry to create more work for you, but can you post pics of your falafel??
-i think you didn’t peel your garlic when you threw it in w/ the chickpeas – is that right?
-do you mean no seafood no more than 2x a week? why? is it the mercury?
thanks!
hey girl,
i’ll post pics of the falafel after we eat it tonight for sure 🙂
i didn’t peel the garlic, just tossed it in the water w the skin on
and the seafood thing i tried to do just 2x a week, but i can’t. i just love it and want it more than that- i figured as long as i eat smaller fish and buy wild caught, it’s all bueno 🙂
wasn’t eclipse amazing!!!
I made falafel Saturday night! But mine were green from the excess of parsley I packed in there. They were positively face-rocking 🙂
Your dinner sounds sooooo yummy!
I got my Sun Warrior today!! Excited!
I love falafal so much. Thank you for the recipe link!
Yyyeah, that’s supposed to say “come today””
haha i knew what you meant 🙂
no it didn’t! i’m anxiously waiting for it though!
Did your Turbo Fire co e today??? I ordered mine this morning!!,
Oooh, Dijon on an egg? Good idea. I love Dijon so why not?
love love love falafel!
i had a falafel once and it was so nasty! I didn’t know they were made of garbonzos?? I might have to make my own one day to try. hmm
That IS annoying that your client peaced out!? She was probably scurred!! At least you were already at the gym and could bust some moves so no worries 😀 I totally cannot NOT eat seafood in limited amounts- shrimp, salm and tuna have my heart fo life ;D
I love falafel but have only had it at restaurants or from frozen, never really thinking that I could make it from scratch. Thanks for the link!
Measuring neck girth; that’s interesting.
I have never heard of that one before.
I feel like I can smell the garlic through the screen. looks like a lot. that neck thing is new to me! do you think it has any validity?
i think it’s more valid using it with children- i’ve noticed that unhealthy children have much larger necks
Ice cream makes summer better. How could I live without a frozen treat?
No one stands up the fitnessista!!!
Have a wonderful dinner with the pilot!
haha!
I need to try that ice cream! Do you use both the guar and the xantham gum?
no, i don’t have guar gum so i just use 3/4 t xanthan
I have got to try the greek salad! I had a fantastic salad exactly like that when I was on vacation and I had no idea what was in it. I’m super excited now!
I SO want ice cream right now 🙂
And the Greek salad looks really refreshing… perfect for the heat wave NYC is having!
That ice cream looks so good! I wish I was at home so that I could make it. MESA grill was great by the way! I had the classic, New Mexican spiced pork tenderloin. 🙂
I’ve actually never had falafel, but anything containing chickpeas and garlic sounds right up my alley! Thanks for the link to the recipe.
I’m excited to see how that falafel turns out!
Great articles! …another reason for me to kick this artificial sweetener habit!
Ice Cream looks so YUM!!!
You are in for a MAJOR TREAT….ECLIPSE WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Loved the Eclipse movie!! My hubby didn’t mind it so much either! 🙂 Frosty and dinner both look delicious!
Ohh your smoked salmon makes me want to go buy some! Do you have a recipe for the egg puff??
yup, here ya go: http://fitnessista.com/2010/03/infamous-egg-puff/
You know, as much as I love chickpeas and hummus, I’ve never had falafel! This needs to change.
yum yum yum!! Gimme protein ice cream! I need to buy xanthan. For some reason I can’t justify the cost even though I know it will last forever. Maybe one taste of that ice cream and I will for sure change my mind. 🙂
I love this: “All I did differently was use hemp seeds instead of sesame and spelt flour instead of wheat”—because I see so many *cough cough* adapted from’s in the ‘sphere that seriously change the sugar from 1/2 to 1/3c and call it their own thing. Ahh, I think we have chatted about this before on email 🙂
Anyway, love the Frosty action! and I hope you are having a stellar evening my friend!
xo
haha i totally thought about you when i wrote that 🙂
“Because real fitness is self-defense. Real training is combat. There is no other determining factor. Ultimately, when we say “fitness” we mean “fit to perform in the worst crisis, for as long as possible.” Scott Sonnon
isn’t that a cool way to define fitness?! “fit to perform in the worst crisis, for as long as possible” I liked it very much and thought maybe you and the pilot would dig. Never had heard of Scott Sonnon until yesterday, but he was featured on another favorite blog of mine, fitnessblackbook. Interview available in full at http://fitnessblackbook.com/
have a nice night!
YES. i love that
can’t wait to check out that interview 🙂
FALAFEL FEAST you say? haha AWESOME!
i kind of want that frosty for breakfast lol.. im sure that’d be allowed 😛 YUM
xoxo
I usually make falafels from the mix at the grocery store, and almost always have them with tzatziki. Mmmm.
Just had the BEST falafel in Manhattan, and lo and behold, they had Whole Wheat Pitas.
I called it “Gina Heaven” in my head.
that sounds ridiculously amazing
next time i’m in nyc, you’ll have to tell me where i can get my hands on one of those 🙂
Hey, I’m a bit confused about sweeteners. I just use regular sugar in my baking or things like tea because I don’t do aspartame but what about this agave nectar or stevia? Can you just use them as sugar subs in everything? Is one better then the other?
i prefer real unrefined sugar (like sucanat) or stevia, because it’s zero-cal and doesn’t spike blood sugar and is plant-based. the prob with aspartame and splenda is that they’re chemical-derived. if you use real sugar, i’d say stick with that
I love how pretty much everybody who tries the protein ice cream throughout the blogworld, even using different recipes, thinks it tastes like a Wendy’s frosty! I thought the same thing when I “invented” my own version before I even started reading blogs!
After I finish Week 4 of Summer Shape Up I plan on starting TurboFire too! I can’t wait to hear what you think of it :)And I keep hearing about Garlic Gold everywhere! I hope it’s as good as ya’ll keep saying!!
garlic gold incredible. i promise 🙂
