Crisis Averted

Hey from the road to Cali!

us4

[Random: We always sing โ€œOn the Road Againโ€ when we get into the car for roadtrips, since weโ€™ve taken so many together. Except we change the lyrics to โ€œOn the road again, weโ€™re on the $*&@&*(@ &*@(!& road againโ€]

I ended up crashing last night in the middle of packing, finishing in a frenzy this morning. We did manage to get together our luggage, Bell and her stuff (sheโ€™s staying at the madreโ€™s for a few days), the cooler of snacks:

cooler (2)

and hit the road.

Itโ€™s been a gloomy, slightly rainy and glorious drive,

stormy cloudy

with a very nice driver ๐Ÿ˜‰

pilot

I enjoyed breakfast on the way to drop Bell off (oats + juice), and some snacks have included:

Sea Snax (the chipotle flavor is AMAZING and surprisingly spicy)

sea snax

Beans from Taco Bell

beans

and a kale salad, which I picked up a couple of days ago from Trader Joeโ€™s,

salad

eaten with a spork (saved from my TB frijoles).

salad (2)

The salad was everything I could wish for in a salad beast: a lovely mixture of savory, crunchy, salty and sweet.

We just made a quick stop to shake our legs out and grab a coffee/tea. While I was trying to upload these photos in the car, I dropped my memory card, and couldnโ€™t bend down far enough to search for it. It was kind of hilarious. We had to pull over to find it, but Pilot saved the day ๐Ÿ™‚

See ya later at the beach! Soooooooo excited <3

If you have any yoga or Zumba recommendations in the La Jolla area, please let me know!

xoxo

Gina

Todayโ€™s tip: A friendly reminder to plan out your meals and fitness plan for the week. It makes sticking to goals SO much easier when you have a tentative plan to stick to. Whatโ€™s on the workout and food menu for this week, friends?

๐Ÿ™‚ I know TB basically has crap food, but I have a soft spot for their cheesy fiesta potatoes.

    • Samantha on November 13, 2011 at 5:17 pm

I second that. They are amazing. I usually get them sans sour cream but either way… amaze.

      • Samantha on November 13, 2011 at 5:17 pm

The sans sour cream = a futile attempt at making it healthy ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Angie on November 13, 2011 at 3:41 pm

I vote for Core Power Yoga in San Diego!

  3. Lauren H on November 13, 2011 at 3:41 pm

The best yoga studio in La Jolla is Corepower Yoga. The address is: 7788 Regents Road, San Diego, (858) 455-9642. Have fun!

  4. RachelG on November 13, 2011 at 3:43 pm

A combo of Zumba, yoga, bootcamp, and a “BANG” workout thrown in there. ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a great trip!

  5. Amanda on November 13, 2011 at 3:44 pm

I used to love those Taco Bell beans when I was little. And also their 7 layer burritos…before I gave much thought to what was in them. haha

I’m a big fan of TJ’s selling kale now. Only wish it was organic, but maybe someday!

  6. Hillary on November 13, 2011 at 4:04 pm

Sounds like your trip is off to a great start!

I’m making a new Real Simple recipe: butternut squash, barley, and spinach. Yum!

  7. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on November 13, 2011 at 4:10 pm

Aww I’m so glad the pilot could come to your rescue and pick that up for you! When my sister was pregnant she said reaching to pick up/grab anything from somewhere nearby was like a 20 minute ordeal. One of those things you have to experience to imagine understanding I guess!

  8. Rebecca on November 13, 2011 at 4:11 pm

You have a knack for posting things right as I’m doing them/thinking about them/in need of a suggestion. I was just planning my workouts and dinners for the week and decided to check your blog. Sure enough, today’s tip is about doing just that!

  9. Sarah on November 13, 2011 at 4:13 pm

OOOH that salad looks delicious! Most of TJs prepacked salads aren’t that incredible and have lots of meat and cheese action, but this one looks totally doable!

Also, that is hilarious. I can totally imagine that and it made me crack up out loud.

  10. Lena @Fit on the Rocks on November 13, 2011 at 4:23 pm

I’m so jealous that you’re able to do semi-productive things while on the road. If I’m not staring straight ahead from the passenger’s seat, I get so nauseous. It’s not as bad as when I was a kid, but it definitely makes road trips a last-resort option for longer rides.

  11. Laura on November 13, 2011 at 4:30 pm

Are you guys driving through Yuma? Yeah… don’t miss that place. Have a fabulous trip!

  12. Jess on November 13, 2011 at 4:37 pm

Gina, a note about CorePower Yoga — many, if not all, of their yoga classes are heated. I’m not sure if hot yoga + pregnancy is ok, so I just wanted to make sure you knew!

  13. Tasha on November 13, 2011 at 4:39 pm

Not sure if you can do heated yoga…but Sol Yoga in the UTC area is not bad. Most of the zumba classes here are offered through 24 hour fitness (kinda meh), or The Sporting Club in the Hyatt. A really nice gym, and probably offers a drop-in type option.

  14. Angie on November 13, 2011 at 4:41 pm

You HAVE to take Zumba with NOBUKO at the La Jolla 24 hour fitness at 1030 am on monday!!! You will NOT regret it. I loved her class when i went home this summer! She is soo hyper and an amazing instructor.

  15. kim on November 13, 2011 at 4:42 pm

You should check out La Jolla Yoga Center or Prana. My favorite teachers at each place are Bonnie or Sara, respectively.

  16. Heather @ For the Love of Kale on November 13, 2011 at 4:46 pm

Aww, you two are so adorable! Have the best time together. ๐Ÿ™‚

P.S. Love the kale salad. Hehe.

  17. Emily on November 13, 2011 at 4:53 pm

That salad looks incredible, I’ll have to try it soon! You too look so cute, have fun!

  18. Angie E on November 13, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Mmm love your salad!!!! Sounds so fresh!! Something on the menu this week is soup that i made in the crockpot!!! I actually just had some while I was reading your post ๐Ÿ™‚ It has kidney beans, pinto, organic chicken breast, kale, spinach, organic chicken stock and some carrots. I think I hit my veggie goal for the day!!! Love hearing about your trip!!!! be safe!!!

  19. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on November 13, 2011 at 5:13 pm

What a guy…driving AND finding dropped memory cards. Ahh, I remember the days where it got increasingly difficult to clip my own toenails ๐Ÿ™‚

Have fun at the beach! The sun came out!! It’s really nice here today! Chilly and crisp but clear as a bell. Perfect San Diego ‘winter’ weather but it’s always about 10 degrees colder in La Jolla, too.

  20. Ali on November 13, 2011 at 5:54 pm

Yup, you always seem to know just what I’m up to ๐Ÿ™‚ Planning meals and cooking them as I write this. This week on the menu: egg white scrambles with spinach and goat cheese inside of a food for life tortilla, my absolute fav! Also, dark chocolate chip protein bars (homemade of course), homemade curry with all my favorite veggies paired with brown rice, and I bought the ingredients to make your butterfinger smoothie!!!!! I’m drooling just thinking about it ๐Ÿ™‚ Can’t wait to tell you how much I LOVE it, cause I’m sure I will!

Happy (and safe) driving! You and Pilot are just the cutest. Enjoy Cali and be sure to take lots of pics so those of us who live in super dreary parts of the states (Oregon….rainy rainy rainy) can live vicariously through you :0)

  21. Felicia on November 13, 2011 at 5:55 pm

have fun!! just made a huge batch of turkey veggie chili for the week ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Felicia on November 13, 2011 at 5:56 pm

by the way i loveed la jolla.. it is so beautiful. make sure to say hi to the sea lions ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. Emily on November 13, 2011 at 6:02 pm

From a San Diego preggy, Core Power is great but even their unheated classes are too hot for me now. La Jolla Yoga Center is very nice and they have prenatal classes. Or do as I do and just grab a mat (or not) and head to the beach or waterfront park and yoga solo!

    • Fitnessista on November 13, 2011 at 9:30 pm

good to know- as much as i love the heat, i don’t think i should do it :/ will check out la jolla yoga center

  24. Allison on November 13, 2011 at 7:02 pm

as soon as i find out my test results for my food allergies, i will be working on my meal plans! hard to plan out stuff when i dont know what i cant eat yet. then my life will be much easier!

  25. Lisa on November 13, 2011 at 7:02 pm

I made white chicken chili this weekend. About to cook collard greens, beans, & cornbread. Hope you have a fantastic trip.

    • Fitnessista on November 13, 2011 at 9:30 pm

  26. Ali on November 13, 2011 at 7:23 pm

That travel salad looks amazing! Excellent choice! Have so much fun on the *&%%$*$#%)#* road again!

    • Fitnessista on November 13, 2011 at 9:30 pm

      hahah thank you

  27. Elisa on November 13, 2011 at 7:31 pm

I don’t know about zumba classes, but prospect bar and grill in the La Jolla cove has free salsa and bachata lessons monday nights from 9pm on. Also the Marriott in la Jolla has salsa dancing Wednesday nights starting at 830pm. Both are free and so much fun!! Not sure where you are staying in La Jolla but the cove is a must see. Cute boutiques, places to eat and a beautiful walk along the ocean! George’s at the cove..,go up to the second floor has a breathtaking view of the ocean on a nice day…I’ve seen dolphins from there before! Enjoy la Jolla, I moved here a year ago and I’m in love!

  28. Lindsay Loves Veggies on November 13, 2011 at 7:39 pm

That salad sounds so good! I think I might have to recreate it!!

  29. Natasha on November 13, 2011 at 7:49 pm

Look at you beauties! Sigh….you are both so gorge…can’t wait to see those smiles with your lovely “ba-ba” – also known as “divine one” in buddist lingo…
Be safe…have a wonderful time – love eachother – and love that you share all you are and do – our Miss Gina – and Pilot.

      thank you lovely friend!

  30. Jen on November 13, 2011 at 8:37 pm

My vote goes for the La Jolla YMCA. They have tons and tons of classes and some really nice equipment.
You could always do yoga on the beast, La Jolla is beautiful! There used to be a hiking yoga class that would hold classes at Torrey Pines State Park (it’s N of La Jolla, consists of mostly flat & picturesque hikes on the cliffs above the ocean).

    • Fitnessista on November 13, 2011 at 9:29 pm

awesome, thank you for the tips!

  31. Lisa O on November 13, 2011 at 9:14 pm

Have a wonderful birthday week Gina! Looks like a fabulous start. Look forward to reading about the San Diego adventures x

  32. Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats on November 13, 2011 at 9:46 pm

I love that you guys sing together! ๐Ÿ™‚ So cute! Today I made personal pizzas + blueberry protein muffins to have on hand for quick lunches and snacks. I also made out a tentative meal plan including protein oats or protein pancakes for breakfast, egg sandwiches for lunch, a tuna casserole, and your so fly fried rice at some point in time! On the workout front I have 3 days of strength training, 3 days of yoga, and 3 days of running planned! Can’t wait!

  33. eliza on November 13, 2011 at 10:02 pm

hi gina! looks like you are in my neck of the woods…so fun! there is corepower yoga on garnett that is awesome!!!! and you can grab a week long pass for free. ๐Ÿ™‚

Have you ever heard of an eye-fi card? I’m thinking about getting one too because it would make blogging easier! It’s a memory card that wirelessly sends your photos to your computer/ipad/iphone. Pretty cool idea and you wouldn’t lose it in the car anymore ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on November 14, 2011 at 10:46 am

haha sounds like i need one! i actually have 2 memory cards (forgot one at home) because i always seem to lose one

  35. Anna @ The Guiltless Life on November 14, 2011 at 12:28 pm

A couple of flow classes, a Pilates class, a circuit workout for the gym and a killer cardio workout for the Stairmaster. Those are my fitness plans – two rest days, one active (a walk and then yin yoga) and one truly resting!

Food plans – lentil sweet potato stew on the menu for tonight and probably, thanks to the lovely leftovers, tomorrow night, and then creamy quinoa primavera and then a cowboy salad beast. We usually end up getting takeout or scrambling for dinner one or two nights a week so I never plan meals for more than 5 nights!

    • Fitnessista on November 14, 2011 at 12:44 pm

cowboy salad beast??? what is this?! it sounds awesome
