Focus On: YouTube Fitness

Even though I usually have some kind of gym membership, I really like working out at home. It’s convenient, NBD if nothing in your outfit matches or if you have yet to brush your teeth that morning, and it’s pressure-free if you’re trying something new or different. My Carmen Electra striptease DVD comes to mind… needless to say, I looked like a giant goober, may or may not have fallen off my chair, and only one person was laughing with me 😉

Oh, plus the stink eye from Bell:

bella4

She gives me those glares and then expects me to throw her toy for her the entire time I’m in plank pose. So rude 😉

While I’ve always enjoyed workout DVDs and other at-home workout options,

turbo

YouTube introduced me to an entire realm of new (and freeeeeee!) workouts.

Here are some of my favorite YouTube workouts and trainers:

Zumba

Enter “Zumba” in the search bar and hundreds of videos will pop up. The only prob is that Zumba recently urged instructors to remove “Zumba” from their YouTube usernames and dance titles, so it makes the best ones a little more challenging to find. The good news is that there are so many to choose from, and you can get in an entire Zumba class in your living room. Bonus: you can shake like crazy sans any inhibition 😉

To make a full class, search for “Zumba” + the following:

-Warm-up

-Salsa

-Cumbia

-Reggaeton

-Merengue

-Flamenco

-Bellydance

-Quebradita

-Cool Down

Pop Pilates

My friend Cassey creates and films incredible Pilates workouts to target every muscle group. She’s a total sweetheart and (almost) makes you forget how much pain you’re in while you’re doing them.

Beloved Butt Blaster:

Zuzana Light

I’ve been a huge fan of Zuzana’s workouts since I started Bodyrockin’ last year. Now, she has her own YouTube channel and posts workouts and recipes.

Tara Stiles

You may have seen her yoga workouts in Women’s Health- I would love to take one of her classes eventually. In the meantime, here are some amazing YouTube yoga routines:

Alycia Kluegl

An incredible source for legit fitness, nutrition and training information:

The Tone It Up girls

I’m a huge fan of the Tone It Up girls (you can read my review of their meal plan here) and they’re always updating their YouTube channel. Expect to find lots of foodie finds, fitness routines and adventures from two gorgeous ladies.

So there ya have it: some of my favorite YouTube fitness options 🙂

Do you use the internet for workout videos? What’s your favorite YouTube channel?

We’re off to get pedicures with the girls -hope you have a wonderful day! <3

xoxo

Wow, just to look at Zuzana is motivating! I like the variety of workouts that you have suggested here. Thanks. Have you dabbled with kettlebells at all? Great cardio and strength workout all in one session.

Awesome post! I’ve been preferring my home workouts to the gym lately. My go to has been bodyrocktv. I’ll usually add a run outside or extra cardio video.

I’m so glad you wrote this post! I’ve really been wanting to try Zumba in the comfort of my own home before I ventured out to a class and NOW I CAN! Also, you should know I was perusing Pinterest yesterday and this post came up about 12 times! Obviously I’m not the only person that loves it! Thanks Gina!

My favorite right now is P90X, but I’ve been DYING to try Insanity – I need some Shaun T!

When I workout at home (which is not too common) I like “On Demand Fitness T.V. channels”. It’s nice to try different workouts in the comfort of your own home where you don’t have to be self-conscious. I can get in the habbit of doing the same workout over and over and need more diversity in my life. 🙂

Have a great day Gina and family!

My favorite at-home workout option is ANY dance dvd by Jennifer Galardi. She is so positive, upbeat, and clear throughout even the most difficult steps within her workouts. I especially enjoy her 10 Minute Solution: Fat Blasting Dance Mix, Crunch: Fat Burning Dance Party, and Dance Off the Inches: Hip Hop Body Blast workouts. Those dvds = toning + “sweat fiesta” + fun + weight loss. LOVE them all! They helped ease me into making my exercise lifestyle change:)

I had no idea there were workouts on youtube… I only watch youtube videos when someone makes me watch something that’s supposed to be funny while I’m at their house LOL.

This was a really great post – i know most of it but the POP pilates thing i’m going to try now…although after seeing a couple of her vids i realise one reason i like Zuzana is her very low-key style…so unlike most other ‘super-hyper’ fitness instructors…Thanks.

Awesome post, I had no idea there was so much out there! I love doing some workouts on the EA active on the boyfriend’s PS3, or a yoga dvd

Great video pics. I am always looking for booty exercises. Thank you.

This is definitely my favourite “focus on” post! I have heard of some of these but others I am psyched to check out!! I love having the option of working out from the comfort of my apartment. Thanks!!

I do Insanity at home all the time! Being a full time student, I can’t really afford a gym membership so I LOVE videos and workouts I can do at home! Insanity is cheap and an amazing workout…you can’t beat it!

  16. Julie on March 9, 2012 at 1:03 am

There’s just so many! I can’t pick one.

I absolutely love youtube videos. They are especially helpful because I can do normal things like laundry and get my groove on in the living room. I recently did your 5 minute at home cardio video. Wowee! I have to tell you I watched it through the first time so I could focus on the moves without having to watch so intensely for what was coming next and I definitely underestimated the hardcoreness if you will. Thanks for sharing these other gems too!

Hi Gina. Thanks for suggesting this. I came across the post when it was first published and then went back this year to actually try pulling together a playlist based on your suggestion. I wrote a post about it here: http://investinginfitness.net/zumba-youtube/
