5/31: Friday Faves

-All of the Summer Shape Up excitement! Thank you so much to those of you who signed up <3The first email went out very early this morning, giving you plenty of time to plan and get ready for MONDAY. I went in and tried to leave comments for a few people who said it wasn’t working. Sometimes it fixed it, others not. If you did not get the email, please send me one (fitnessista at gmail dot com) so I can either email you the password or get you in the system.

I’ll be doing most of the Shape Up along with you (when my teaching schedule allows it), and definitely following the meal ideas. Be sure to check in Monday am for your first workout and our first SSU giveaway! It’s a good one.

We went out for Mexican food and ‘ritas after Anna‘s service yesterday- she would have approved 🙂 Her service was beautiful and absolutely packed; a testament to the type of person she was and is. Thank you for all of your kind words about her passing <3 It’s been a sad week, but I’m happy she’s no longer suffering.

-Groupons. I went for about 2 years without buying a Groupon, and then bam! They’ve had all of my favorite things lately. I picked one for up yoga, The Abbey and acupuncture within a week.

-Turkey jerky. I’m on a serious turkey jerky kick right now.. it’s such an easy, portable snack. It just makes me laugh when Liv asks for a bite, because the peppered stuff is kind of spicy! She likes it.

-Swimming with Liv. This summer, I’d like to take her swimming at least once a week. Since we don’t have a pool, it always takes extra planning/packing and little bit of a drive to go for a swim. It’s totally worth it to see her kicking in the water with her little sun hat.

and heading to a squadron event this afternoon.

    I’m excited about SSU! I’m going to be traveling in Europe all summer and doing lots of hotel room workouts, so this will be perfect! I think I missed something, though–is there somewhere I should have signed up? When I click on the Summer Shape Up link in this post, it requires a password. I’d love to join, but non-techy me can’t figure out how!

    So excited for the shape up. Especially since after surgery, I’ve had to take 3 weeks off exercise and I need to get back in the normal schedule I was used to before that.
    Awe, that’s so great Liv is swimming, she’s so adorable in her little hat.
    And I’m also loving fresh berries, I’m SO happy they’ve returned!

    I’m really excited about summer shape up. I just recently quit my gym membership to save money (for my upcoming wedding!) and am so thankful for some at-home workouts. What weight do you recommend for the dumbbells? I need to purchase some and I’d love any recommendations you have!

    I am so excited about fresh berries- that’s the worst part of winter (besides the cold weather) is the only fruit that’s available is apples and oranges.

    I’m loving fruit this week! This morning I had the most amazing bowl of chopped apple, pear, and blueberries. So good. Spring and summer have the best fruit!

    So let me get this straight…your friend passed away and you decided to post it in a blog along w look at my new video Zumba! You post what looks like a high school pic w her… How good of a friend was she if you don’t have any pics from the last ten yr. which is also a pic from high school showing that you were never overweight . Thought u didn’t have any pics from high school to show. Pic also shows you totally have implants. Then you instagram your post funeral meal and hash tag your friend who passed away. All of this is so tacky and wrong.

        I wouldn’t call it fired up. I call it truthful. Truth hurts. No nitpicking, she stated facts. That YOU posted on your blog. You post your meal after the funeral, drink margaritas, and hash tag your dead friend. Not even remotely appropriate. And I speak from experience. Her funeral wasn’t about you so let it go and enjoy your Mexican food. This was all very, very obvious attention seeking.

      People can be so quick to judge.
      -I have High School friends that I meet up with and talk to but we don’t take photos of those times. We forget, we’re too caught up in actually catching up!
      -High School bodies vs. Real women bodies are totally different. I never had boobs in HS, but I gained THREE cup sizes at the end of college. I’ve fluctuated in weight but haven’t lost any in the chest. Seriously, -25lbs not an inch in the chest. I’m still trying to figure out if this is good or bad. My point: Everyone’s body is different. PS. Whether someone’s chest is natural is no ones business but theirs. She’s not commenting on it, so why are you?
      -She’s celebrating her friend. What could be wrong with that?

      Usually I just leave these comments alone but this is ridiculous. My condolences on your loss Gina.

      Being a woman is hard enough, let’s be nice to one another.

      that picture was from freshman year of high school: 13 years ago. my body has changed a lot in that time frame (first i gained a lot of weight, you can see some before photos in my weight loss post, and then lost it.. and um, had a baby since then). i didn’t post any recent pics because that was when we first started hanging out, just to celebrate that we’ve been friends and she’s been a part of my life for a long time. and by the way, checking out and making assessments about my boobs isn’t creepy at all.
      anna would have wanted me to continue my life, and not wallow in sadness of her passing. i cried a lot this week, but i also tried to honor her life by doing some of the things that make me happy when i’m sad, like dancing and having a great meal with people i love. the hashtag was hers. she always had a positive “annatude,” even throughout the most challenging times.

        I’m sorry for your loss Gina. Please don’t feel you have to justify yourself. You are a positive, helpful individual. I, for one, am grateful for all of the great information you provide your readers. I hate to give people like this any attention but this just made me angry. Keep up the great work!

    Hey Gina,

    I’m really excited to join the SSU this year. I’ve been reading your blog through a few of them, but this is the first I’m available for. Quick Question. I’ve been practicing yoga 2-3x/week, and I’d like to keep up with that through these four weeks. Any recommendations about which days you would add that in? I tend to do hot powerful flow classes, so they’re pretty good cardio work for me, but I’d also be willing to go to more “slow flow” classes, if that will fit better. 🙂

    I’m loving relaxing at home with my little man this week after a crazy vacay in Maui and then birthday craziness/family visiting last week. All good things, but its nice to get back on our routine and slow down a little.

    i’m loving the abundance of fresh berries right now (and fruit in general!). i can’t get enough of blueberries, raspberries, and cherries this week.

    i also bought a groupon for a yoga 15-class package this week. it’ll be my first time trying yoga at a studio. so excited! 🙂
