5/31: Friday Faves

-All of the Summer Shape Up excitement! Thank you so much to those of you who signed up <3The first email went out very early this morning, giving you plenty of time to plan and get ready for MONDAY. I went in and tried to leave comments for a few people who said it wasn’t working. Sometimes it fixed it, others not. If you did not get the email, please send me one (fitnessista at gmail dot com) so I can either email you the password or get you in the system.

SSUWeek1JPG

(thank you so much to Beth @_seoul for donating her graphic design skills for that! I’ll be sending her some roons as a thank you.)

I’ll be doing most of the Shape Up along with you (when my teaching schedule allows it), and definitely following the meal ideas. Be sure to check in Monday am for your first workout and our first SSU giveaway! It’s a good one.

-Calle Tepa.

Calle tepa

(I love the manchegos, Spanish rice, black beans and margarita)

We went out for Mexican food and ‘ritas after Anna‘s service yesterday- she would have approved ๐Ÿ™‚ Her service was beautiful and absolutely packed; a testament to the type of person she was and is. Thank you for all of your kind words about her passing <3 It’s been a sad week, but I’m happy she’s no longer suffering.

-Groupons. I went for about 2 years without buying a Groupon, and then bam!ย They’ve had all of my favorite things lately. I picked one for up yoga, The Abbey and acupuncture within a week.

-Turkey jerky. I’m on a serious turkey jerky kick right now.. it’s such an easy, portable snack. It just makes me laugh when Liv asks for a bite, because the peppered stuff is kind of spicy! She likes it.

-Swimming with Liv. This summer, I’d like to take her swimming at least once a week. Since we don’t have a pool, it always takes extra planning/packing and little bit of a drive to go for a swim. It’s totally worth it to see her kicking in the water with her little sun hat.

Swimming

-Fresh berries.

Today, Oliv and I are hanging out

Painting

(more finger painting, reading books and playing in her new princess castle)

and heading to a squadron event this afternoon.

Hope you have a wonderful Friday!

xoxo

Gina

What are you loving this week?? ๐Ÿ™‚

Totally agree with the poster way above. You go ZUMBA! after you get word that your friend has died. You go out for Mexican and margaritas after her funeral. Can’t say I’ve ever done that after a “supposedly” good friend has passed. In fact, i dont think i could stomach mexican food and margaritas after a funeral. And I’ve been to several, WAY too many.

Your blog reeks of attention-getting. I do believe its all about you. Call it whatever you want (nit picking? She stated facts whether you like to hear them or not). Leave it out of your blog. I’m sure your deceased friend, her real friends and family would appreciate it. Not clap for you because you went out for Mexican. Good lord.

Everyone grieves differently. Many people choose to celebrate the amazing life that their friend/family member lived while they were here with us, which is exactly what I believe Gina did. I personally don’t want people moping around and crying all day when I pass, but enjoying their lives and making the most of the time that they still have while remembering the wonderful memories that we made together.

Shame on you for making anyone else feel bad about their choices during an already tough time. You don’t have to read Gina’s blog if you don’t like what she has to say.

    • Fitnessista on May 31, 2013 at 10:24 pm

the only way i could’ve celebrated the way she lived her life better would be to have a rum and coke instead of a margarita. she would’ve been upset if i didn’t have a drink in her honor or dance to her memory after crying at her funeral. and no, laura did not state facts. anna made up that hashtag herself- i was using it in her honor (like all her other friends on social media sites). she was a fun-loving, giving person, who always saw the best in others. basically the polar opposite of you, since all you do is come here with your repeated, unfounded judgement. i’ve told you multiple times that your toxic energy is not welcome here.

    • Jay on June 1, 2013 at 11:45 am

Shame on you. I agree with Shaina, everyone grieves differently and Gina (or anyone) should not have to justify her way or how it was with her friend to you. If you don’t like the blog, don’t read it and don’t post your negative sentiments. I come to this blog for all of the great, positive energy that Gina fosters. Your comment just made me angry with your judgmental, mean post.

Gina, only you know best how your friend would have liked to have been celebrated and remembered. I hope everyone goes out for chips and salsa and margaritas after my passing!

My uncle passed away last year. He was very dear to me and helped raise me, and I am still processing his death. He was an amazing person who lived life to the fullest and had many adventures.

After his funeral, we had the reception at his favorite Mexican restaurant. We rented out a private room and had fajitas and margaritas for everyone. It was the truest way to honor his crazy, happy life.

Everyone grieves differently, and what Gina did was perfectly fine.

Gina- your blog is fantastic and inspirational. Keep doing your thing!

    • Jen on June 2, 2013 at 4:05 pm

No reason for nastiness or a judgmental attitude ever on this blog, for shame!

Gina, what you do is inspirational. You have created such a wonderful, positive, helpful blog. Do NOT let those haters get to you!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your work and efforts to helping make this the best blog I read. The information you give to us is priceless and the community of people you have here is amazingly positive!

      Hoping this week is better!

If you can recommend a month long beginner fitness program let me know. I received your week one on your fitness shape up and its WAY too much for me (no gym; no impact or fast/hills/tempo things…those are way too advanced for me)…I need a simple effective weekly program to feel proud and accomplished and make progress. If you know of a book or website that gives a month long plan, that’s great. I want to start June…right .

    • Fitnessista on June 1, 2013 at 3:11 pm

what does your current fitness routine look like?

      • Jill on June 1, 2013 at 10:56 pm

I walk slowly (humidity here sucks me of energy); dealing with a lot of digestive and chronic fatigue issues that doctors have proven of no use for; every couple days I try to do 5-10 minutes of basic squats, lunges, pushups (on knees) , etc…only leaves me MORe tired really cause I have no structure or set goals to be proud of and to progress week to week (I’d like month to month plans you know?).

As a former runner, I miss that to the umpteenth degree…I want to feel good about myself …I do…. ๐Ÿ™

I think you look incredible (as a female crush on ya, ha…you seem “hotter” now than before you were a mama ๐Ÿ™‚ …and yes I’m straight, don’t get creeped out on me ๐Ÿ™‚

I’d like to rejuvenate my tired body and mind and overcome the battles in my head , heart, and soul. I write….can Tucson take me on and I’ll write up how they “saved my life” ๐Ÿ™‚
Or you want/need a roomie ? Got a job for me? I’m Canadian, and I’m dirt broke (dirt), but I’ll do anything ๐Ÿ™‚
