A Little Sparkle

Hey friends 😀 How’s your day been? Hope you’re having a fabulous afternoon.

I started my morning off with a muscle-y BodyPump class,

a smoooooothie

smoothie

(almond milk, Sun Warrior protein and supergreens, frozen blueberries, cacao)

and got ready for a day of errands + a lunch date.

My outfit was nothing crazy (jean crops and a J Crew v-neck) so I added a little sparkle with fun accessories:

flats (2)

Tory Burch flats

and a new necklace from the gem show:

necklace

It was $16 and I am obsessed with it.

I met up with Megan for lunch at Blue Willow, which is my Tucson restaurant obsession of the moment.

They have so many veg options, delicious hummus, fresh-baked treats and blackened salmon that will make Jesus tap dance on your tongue:

salmon

It may have beat Longhorn for best restaurant salmon- it’s that good! I have no idea what they season it with, but it’s crunchy, slightly spicy and perfectly cooked every time.

Chatting with Megan was so much fun. She’s actually taken one of my classes before, so it was cool to put the puzzle pieces together! She’s a natural fertility method teacher, similar to what I’ve been following for over a year via Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Her blog has a lot of awesome info if you’re interested in learning more about natural fertility planning.-We already have plans to hang out again next week 🙂

After lunch, I shipped out the goodie packages to the giveaway winners and one for Lindsey for letting me crash at her house 🙂

Each giveaway package included:
package

-a jar of TJs almond butter

-seaweed snacks

-crispy green beans

-dried mango (no sugar, nada- just mango)

-Larabars and Pure bars

-Dark chocolate with sea salt

-dark chocolate and blonde raw macaroons (made by yours truly)

After I got back from running errands, something had to happen.

ballz

Ballz happened.

To be real, I can’t live without almond butter anymore. According to the detox meal plan, I’m not technically supposed to have it for 4 more days, but I’m bringing it back early. I’ll be writing my 20 day re-cap post pretty soon, but I will go ahead and say that this detox has made me *hungrier* than I’ve ever been. I’ve been getting enough calories to fuel my activity levels (have not lost any el bees), but the fact that certain staples have been temporarily removed from my diet is making me want them more than ever. When this is all over, there’s a gluten-free cookie the size of my face and glass of wine with my name on it 🙂

I bought another quinoa product to play with:

quinoa

Recipe inspiration!! I’m going to make detox-friendly cookies tomorrow (most likely including almond butter) 🙂

Well, I’m going to take Bella out (she’s been hyper today!) and then get some Indian food for dinner.

Have a lovely night <3

xoxo

Gina

You are always so stinkin’ cute!! How DO you find time for cooking, working, blogging, exercising, and looking fan-freaking-tastic all of the time?

  4. Leanne (For Health's Sake) on February 9, 2011 at 8:04 pm

My fave accessory would be my engagement ring… but I guess that’s wedding related……… so my second fave would be: my earings that I got for Christmas of 2009 from my hunny <3

  5. Annette on February 9, 2011 at 8:14 pm

I love pretty much all my shows, and I really love this cheapy long pendant necklace with “feathers” made of some sort of metal that I got at target.

I pretty much grew up in Tucson and can you believe that I have never been to the gem show?!?! Crazy!!

My favorite accessory is a necklace my mom had made for me that has a picture of my daughter kissing my husband right after he graduated from the TFD Academy! Love my little fam 🙂

I am SO crap at accessorizing – maybe you can do a fashion friday/RR post on how to not be a fashion idiot 🙂 Happy Wednesday Gina!

  13. Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete on February 9, 2011 at 8:42 pm

I don’t know what you mean by non-wedding — you mean besides my wedding ring? I have a blue topaz necklace that Jason gave me that I absolutely love. I wear it almost every day!

I love those shoes — the print is so adorable!

  14. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on February 9, 2011 at 8:43 pm

LOL…this needs to be a recipe title
“blackened salmon that will make Jesus tap dance on your tongue”

Too ironic you posted about your fertility stuff today. I JUST published a post and linked you (couldnt find that exact post so just a general link) but talked about going to the Gyno. You and Caitlin have been so open, honest, real, and educational for readers..and gave me the confidence to talk about going to the gyno and other female jazz.

    Thank you 🙂

Your necklace is awesome. And so are those almond butter ballz. NICE 🙂

  15. Babs on February 9, 2011 at 8:46 pm

Great shoes!..oh one day I hope to try your macaroons, le sigh. If there is every anything swap worthy in Austin TX, let me know:)

  16. fran hlavacek on February 9, 2011 at 8:48 pm

My grandma had a necklace very similar to that. Now I have it. She called it the “hand of God”. She was a little Italian lady, so I’m pretty sure she wasn’t into yoga at the time…. 🙂
It’s so very pretty.Wear it in good health!

My favourite accessory is a pair of earrings. They’re made from shellacked ferns (as in the actual plant) and they’re so unique and beautiful!

  18. Beth on February 9, 2011 at 9:09 pm

Wow, I fully read that last part as “For more tips on nut busting…” hahaha!

PS LOVE that new necklace! Are those shoes Toms?

  19. Beth on February 9, 2011 at 9:10 pm

Woops, nevermind, I see they’re not Toms 🙂

  20. Suzanne on February 9, 2011 at 9:32 pm

Best accessory? Why, a smile of course! (groan, but seriously, no seriously)

Okay, actually, headbands, fo shizzle. In other news,

    1) I kinda want to rip your shoes off your feet and steal them….

    2) I was thinking of your Q the other day about where your blog readers would want to live, and I was thinking that a fun piggy-back Q might be to ask in what time period people (incl. yourself) would want to live and why. just for a fun discussion

    3) Quinoa dumplings? Do you think you could, um, make some and then give us the recipe? their kidna like ballz….you’re a magician with schaweeet ballz, so maybe give savory balls a whirl?

    Thanks!

  23. Krista @ Journey to a Healthy Berg on February 9, 2011 at 9:52 pm

I could never survive that long without nut butters. Good job for making it that long!

  24. MMiller on February 9, 2011 at 10:05 pm

Wow, favorite non-wedding accessory??? I would have to say a ring that my husband bought me for our anniversary (or is that considered wedding related)? He bought it for me for our 19th anniversary when I was in the hospital! It has been 6 years and I still love it! Not expensive, but the thought just really got to me!

  25. Stefanie on February 9, 2011 at 10:06 pm

I LOVE that necklace! Does the brand have a online store where I could order it?

  26. Shanna @ Shanna Like Banana on February 9, 2011 at 10:12 pm

Where did you get the Quinoa flakes? I must know!

Necklace is gorgeous — love great fins like this.

  27. Molly @ MollyRunsFresh on February 9, 2011 at 10:14 pm

Looking forward to your cookie recipe using quinoa flakes! I’m always on the verge of buying them and then I think “nothing will ever replace oatmeal” and move on. Prove me wrong!

    • Fitnessista on February 9, 2011 at 10:58 pm

hahah so much pressure! but i’ll try 🙂

  28. Hallie on February 9, 2011 at 10:15 pm

That’s a hamsa! Jewish people wear them a lot but I guess it has Islamic roots? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamsa. Love it.

I work at a museum and we have a gem and mineral exhibit right now. Our curator was at that show this week! She’s super connected in the jewelry world. Must be nice right?

  29. Amy on February 9, 2011 at 10:23 pm

My fav accessory is my filigree cuff. 😀

I’m excited for tomorrow’s cookie recipe…I have a full jar of almond butter at the ready!

  30. Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries on February 9, 2011 at 10:30 pm

My favorite piece of jewelry (besides my engagement ring) is my claddagh ring that used to be my mom’s – and gave it to me in 4th grade and I’ve worn it every day since! 🙂

  31. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on February 9, 2011 at 10:30 pm

I love seeing that necklace on you!! I don’t know if you know the symbolism behind it, but it’s a Jewish and/or middle eastern symbol that protects against the evil eye. I’ve been looking for one for myself!

My fave accessory: it’s a toss-up between the mosaic necklace my mom made me and my engagement ring…

  32. Becky on February 9, 2011 at 10:37 pm

Hey Gina! I recently got the Quinoa Flakes too. I tried this recipe, and it’s pretty good: http://www.greenkitchenstories.com/quinoa-porridge-with-nettles/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=quinoa-porridge-with-nettles. Let us know how you experiment with the Flakes…I’m excited to see!

  33. Katelyn on February 9, 2011 at 10:40 pm

I absolutely love those flats!! I need to find a pair that is not expensive though:)

Slash I LOVE those quinoa flakes!! I have to be careful how I use them (read: not as good as oats), but they are GREAT in baked goods! I can’t wait to see what you use them for, girlie girl!

    • Fitnessista on February 9, 2011 at 10:57 pm

i tried them as cereal today and you’re right- not as good as oats. im excited to bake with them though!

Let me know how you like the quinoa flakes– I’ve been wanting to give those a try. I already know it won’t top my sacred oat bran 🙂 Quinoa and nut butter? Maybe.

  38. Maryann on February 9, 2011 at 11:21 pm

Cute accessories!! The blackened salmon looks so good. For some reason I tend to shy away from making fish, so I love getting it at restaurants.

  39. Christin@purplebirdblog on February 9, 2011 at 11:34 pm

The shoes and the necklace are both super lurrrvely!! And I’ve heard those quinoa flakes are badass!

    You are a strong woman!

  42. Krista (kristastes) on February 9, 2011 at 11:51 pm

I have a hand necklace like that with a tiny eye like the white one in the middle…I love it and get SO many compliments (got it for $12)! Love yours!

  43. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on February 9, 2011 at 11:59 pm

My favorite accessory is a pair of cubic-zirconia earrings I got at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale last year! They are bigger than any REAL diamond I can afford, but look classic and go with everything!

Living without almond butter is rough! I’ve tried it before, but it never last long… glad you’re enjoying it again!

  44. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on February 10, 2011 at 12:17 am

I love any basic “stud-like” earrings. I have huge pearl and cubic-zirconia that go with everything.

    Cute flats! They look comfy.
