Back on the mat

Hi friends <3 How was your humpday? Anyone else itching for the weekend to get here? Me <— so ready. Loved your comments on the Focus On post! If you’ve been wanting to try Turbofire, or any of Beachbody programs, hit up my friend Lizzie– she can [honestly] answer all of your questions. [She helped me pick my BB programs – she’s amazing]

So guess who actually went to yoga today?!

yoga

ME!

My goal was to practice more than I did in August, and 1 > 0, so I already accomplished that 🙂 I’m gonna be real": It was ungainly and awkward, yet it felt awesome. There were some parts where I just went into child’s pose or did cat cow combos instead of the prone exercises they were doing, did bow pose on my side instead of my stomach, and reaaaaalllly needed those hip stretches. I call it a win, but nothing near as fun as my old practice. I’m definitely stoked to get back into Bikram and power yoga come January 🙂

Today was also a Buddha necklace kinda day:

744dbcaeaaf545ee8f8b3fb03884fb7d_7

I had two stretch classes at work, so I tend to dress more yoga-y on those days. Also wore my Tiny Devotions bracelets, which I’m obsessed with (coming up in a future fashion post).

Some eats:

bfast

Bfast was a green smoothie

smoothie

-almond milk

-1/2 banana, 1/2 farmer’s market mango

-Sun Warrior

-handful of spinach

-Ice

and toast with almond butterrrrr.

toast

For lunch, I made the most random egg creation ever.

egg

A flat egg + 2 egg whites with greens, beets, goat cheese, sundried tomato and balsamic [I’m not usually a “weird combo” person, but it was so good!]

and a couple handfuls of Mary’s Crack [curry sticks and twigs- my fave!]

twigs

The Pilot just got home, so I think I’m going to grill him a pizza for dinner 😉

Have a great night <3

xoxo

Something to talk about: Random Q & A time! It’s been forever since I’ve done a Q & A post (maybe since I just throw everything out there on the Family page? haha), but thought it would be a good time to bring it back. I love it because it also gives me a chance to learn more about you guys, too, and let’s face it: I like you.. and I’m nosy 😉 So ask me anything! I’ll post responses tomorrow 😀

I feel like you are an open book ( which I love, I am the same) so it’s hard to think of a question. Maybe some more about your religious upbringing?

    • Fitnessista on September 7, 2011 at 9:39 pm

ohh that’s a good one- i’ve never written about that

    • Casey @ Pocket Full of Sunshine on September 8, 2011 at 9:21 am

I’d like to see that now—along with your beliefs now, if you feel comfortable sharing of course! It’s always a very interesting topic for me.

Thanks for being willing to open up to all these questions Gina—that is definitely hard to do!

  2. Chloe (In Fine Feather) on September 7, 2011 at 9:41 pm

I want to hear about how the Pilot asked you to marry him! Not sure if you’ve gone over that story before, but I think it would be a great one to share 🙂

  3. suzi on September 7, 2011 at 9:42 pm

Maybe you already talked about this and I missed it but I always wonder why you refer to the baby fitnessista as the “gluten free bun in the oven”, I know you ate fairly gluten free prior to becoming preggo, just wondering what the reason is/was to become more full-on gluten free while cooking the bun 😉

  4. Jill on September 7, 2011 at 9:42 pm

What are you going to name the baby? 😛 haha

    • Fitnessista on September 7, 2011 at 9:42 pm

      that one’s under wraps 🙂

      • Jill on September 8, 2011 at 1:22 pm

        Haha I figured!

  5. Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) on September 7, 2011 at 9:43 pm

“I’m not usually a “weird combo” person, but it was so good!”– maybe the baby is?? At least you’re not asking for pickles in your ice cream (yet) haha.

Q&A: What are you naming your little nugette?? j/k 😉

how about ‘what is your favorite date activity, besides eating out?’

  6. Bridget B on September 7, 2011 at 9:43 pm

What are you most excited for when the baby comes? For me, when I know something special is coming, I tend to try to imagine it in as many ways as possible for weeks beforehand; any similar thoughts for you? How about the Pilot?

  7. Jamie on September 7, 2011 at 9:45 pm

I absolutely love that you’re so open to questions! I would love to hear about your journey to where you are now. I know you have your weight loss story, but I would like to hear how you progressed in your fitness program, like when you started adding things, what/how much you started off with, etc.

  8. Holly @ The Runny Egg on September 7, 2011 at 9:45 pm

That is a strange piece of toast — at first I thought it was two pieces kind of stacked but the more I look at it, I think it is one piece. Delicious.

    • Fitnessista on September 7, 2011 at 9:45 pm

yep it’s one piece! the tj’s gluten-free multigrain

  9. RachelG on September 7, 2011 at 9:45 pm

Hi Gina! What kind of meditation (if any) do you practice? I’ve wanted to do Transcendental Meditation but a major deterrent is the price. Have you ever considered it?

  10. Bonnie on September 7, 2011 at 9:47 pm

    1) What’s your favorite quick, easy, and cheap meal to make at home?
    2) What are your favorite at-home and out on the town date nights with the Pilot?
    3) What’s your favorite go-to at-home workout?

    Thanks!

  11. Rose on September 7, 2011 at 9:48 pm

Q1. I know that several times you’ve talked about how you met the Pilot from your perspective, but I would love to hear more about his first impressions and his story!

Q2. Do you have plans to finish your graduate degree? Or to pursue a different degree?

Also, I know I promised a couple months ago to send Shiba baby pics. I have been putting it off, but they are coming your way this weekend!

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2011 at 12:25 am

i can’t wait to see the baby shiba!

  12. Leanne (Bride to Mrs.) on September 7, 2011 at 9:54 pm

What is the best marriage advice you and the pilot can give to some newlyweds? <– me and my hubby!

What is the biggest thing that helped you lose weight/keep off the weight?

I love that you're open to questions 🙂 you rock girl!

    • Leanne (Bride to Mrs.) on September 8, 2011 at 10:33 am

What ever happend to the business you and the pilot were going to open?

      • Fitnessista on September 8, 2011 at 10:58 am

we did open it- dance trance tucson. i ran it from january until march, when we were going to move to a bigger studio. i couldn’t keep teaching all of the classes for DT on top of teaching at the resort, and we were losing quite a bit of money from running DT (renting a studio, etc), so I stopped. I’d like to start again eventually though and still own the Tucson license for Dance Trance.

Awww, I need to get my bootay back to yoga too!! I love that you try new things, set a goal and do it!! My kinda gal 😉

haha… SO cheesy and i sound like a college admissions counselor, but would love to hear!!

  15. Sarah on September 7, 2011 at 10:05 pm

Are you planning on staying at home with your baby or continuing to work?

  16. sara on September 7, 2011 at 10:07 pm

    How did the pilot propose?

  17. Jaclyn on September 7, 2011 at 10:09 pm

Sometimes when I pack fresh and non-perishable snacks and/or meals, I feel guilty and eat it even when I’m not that hungry. What do you do with this dilemma? Do you eat it anyway? Throw is away and deal with the guilt? I never know what the right thing to do is because I hate wasting food! Would love to see a post about wasted food ; )

  18. Lindsey at Chick Flick Chic on September 7, 2011 at 10:13 pm

I would love to know about how the pilot proposed and how you two knew you were ready to get married!

That is a really beautiful necklace!

  21. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on September 7, 2011 at 10:16 pm

Doing yoga when pregnant is not always the most “blissful and zen-like” experience; or for me it wasn’t always that way 🙂 Some days I felt so awkward! Some practices were great, though too. I hope my yoga tips guest post I wrote for you maybe helped you some modifications that will make it a little bit more zen-like 🙂

My question: How do you see being able to juggle blogging (which for you is nearly a FT job I’m sure between writing posts, questions, emails, photo uploads, etc) + your other job + Motherhood! when the Nugette arrives? If you had to give something up or cut back on something, where will you cut corners?

    • AmyW on September 7, 2011 at 10:39 pm

Great question! I am anxious to hear an answer on this one.

  22. Amber on September 7, 2011 at 10:17 pm

I would love a run down of how you handle eating out. Maybe some of your go to options at different restaurants and for different cuisines. I travel a lot for work and I always feel that eating out is my downfall.

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2011 at 12:24 am

yeah i went to power hour (not heated) anusara.

  28. Alyssa on September 7, 2011 at 11:03 pm

Hi Gina! First time commenter–long time reader 🙂 I read your blog daily, and really enjoy it. I am a newlywed, and since I started dating my husband I automatically gained 10 pounds (very quickly in the beginning) and have just stayed there even after we were married..I’d like to lose those ten pounds, but it almost seems impossible. Where is my will power?! I know that funny (silly) saying that “Your just happy/in love” but I want to be happy with my figure. Okay, I tend to ramble so I will just get to it. When I was younger I did weight watchers and could lose 5 pounds etc, and 10 doesn’t seem like that much, but I’d like to get to the point where I don’t have to “count points” or jot down calories…I feel like I get frusterated with and just give up with of all the point counting, etc. I notice your jot down certain things on your journal like Fats? Proteins? Etc. How can I relax, and just make my eating a lifestyle and still lose? -Alyssa

  29. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on September 7, 2011 at 11:04 pm

Awesome about the yoga! And yeah, it can be a touch strange when you don’t have the freedom in your body that you once did, but I still think yoga is SO worth it and will really help you out come delivery time! I have a question; when you were dating the Pilot and you first found out that he was a military man, and what that would mean for you as his partner (the deployment, strange hours, constant worry about his safety), did you ever consider ending the relationship? Or was he always undoubtedly worth the sacrifices?

  30. laury@thefitnessdish on September 7, 2011 at 11:16 pm

i really need to get back to yoga. I was to scared to do it after the bump grew and I luckily had a good prenatal yoga teacher that actually kept it challenging. Have only done some light vinyasa since!

hmmm…..Since you are keeping the baby name hush…I guess I would love to know more about how you got into blogging. I know it was b/c you moved to Valdosta and needed a hobby. I am interested in knowing if you read blogs first or started yours a discovered more…when did you really take off where it became a job for you. Who were your first blogger friends? At what point did your traffic spike? Early on? Is it hard to keep up with all the posting on top of everything else (working, exercising, being a wife, keeping your home, etc) you do…if not..what the hank’s your secret 😉

I am so interested in learning these things about other bloggers….

probably not a “fun” question….but add it to the list 😉 or point me there if you wrote about it before!

  31. Rachel on September 7, 2011 at 11:27 pm

I actually have a question for the Pilot, what does he think about Don’t Ask Don’t Tell being repealed? I’m a pretty gigantic supporter of my gay friends and their civil rights, but I’m not on the inside, I’m not a soldier and I have no idea how people who are actually In the military feel about this.

  32. Chelsa on September 7, 2011 at 11:28 pm

That Buddha necklace is so cute. I want one. That smoothie looks really yummy too. I should really try spinach in my next smoothie.

  33. Sami on September 7, 2011 at 11:42 pm

hey…have you ever got in huge fights with the Pilot? like where crying ensued, slamming doors, etc? Advice please..

  34. Claire on September 7, 2011 at 11:56 pm

Where is your family from? I can totally tell your some sort of hispanic by your use of spanish–just curious! Do you speak fluently?

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2011 at 12:12 am

i understand it fluently but don’t speak it as well as i used to- living in nc and georgia, where i rarely heard spanish took it away from me. my mom’s family is mexican/italian and speak spanish at home 🙂

  35. Michelle on September 8, 2011 at 12:04 am

So even though you are keeping your baby girl’s name under wraps, I would love to know what you were planning on naming her when she was thought to be a boy!

  36. megan on September 8, 2011 at 1:07 am

im not sure if youve ever answered this before, but have you ever been injured where you could do no exercise for a period of time? if so, was it hard getting back into a routine? what motivated you to do so?

  37. AR on September 8, 2011 at 1:43 am

I second the eating out request… I’d love to know your go-to choices for Mexican, Italian, Thai, etc when you’re trying to eat clean. Also, do you have any restaurant rules? I usually try to stick to choosing either bread, alcohol or dessert but not more than one as a treat. Any other guidelines you use? Thanks 🙂

  38. Maddy on September 8, 2011 at 2:39 am

I was wondering if you have any advice on not getting intimidated by people at the gym, especially those who seem so confident in the weight room and everything, or are super-fit, or whatever. These things don’t stop me from working out by any means, but I’d love to hear what you have to say, since I’d consider you to be one of those people i’d be intimidated by 😛

thanks for being a health and lifestyle inspiration to so many of us out there 🙂

More yoga is an ongoing goal of mine. Last month I pretty much failed at that goal (I only did yoga once) and this month I’ve only done it once too. Yoga just becomes so hard to incorporate into my routine during running season. Hmph. 😕

I don’t think that egg creation is weird at all—I think it sounds fabulous!

I’d love to know how Tom proposed. Because I’m obsessed with proposal stories. ; )

  44. Emily on September 8, 2011 at 8:08 am

Hi! I’m Emily. Just started reading your blog a few days ago!

Q: How did you get into teaching yoga? I love yoga, and have considered training to become certified but I just don’t know where to start. If you answer this somewhere else on your blog, just post the link 🙂

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2011 at 11:07 am

      hey girl!
welcome to the little blog 🙂
i actually don’t teach yoga- just practice it. i thought about getting certified, but i think it’s one of those things i’d like to do for me without teaching others (which sounds selfish, but once you teach many different types of exercise it changes the experience)
averie (loveveggiesandyoga.com) is a yoga master though- i think she has her 500 hours cert?

  45. sarah@spinach and spice on September 8, 2011 at 8:28 am

Your eggs sound great! I’m relatively new to your blog, so you might have already done a post on this.. but protein powder reviews? Spirutein is on sale on Swanson Health’s site right now, and I was wondering if you had any suggestions 🙂 If you’ve already covered this, can you send me in the right direction?
    Thanks!

Just wondering if you are going to be a full time stay at home mommy:)

  47. Angie on September 8, 2011 at 8:47 am

Hi – I would love to hear how you handle eating healthy during that time of the month. I know you’re pregnant so it’s been a few months, but I really struggle with eating healthy when my hormones rage and I’m uber hungry. Maybe I’m not fueling well enough and that is what is triggering the hunger? I really struggle too with numbers. I know you love to shop. Do you ever struggle with your size changing – maybe across brands? I have two boys and feel lucky that when I was pregnant, I handled the changes in my body really well. I loved being pregnant and felt really OK with everything. However, as I get older, I’m not as OK with my body changing. Maybe I should mourn the past and look ahead to the future. Deep thoughts! Love your blog!!!

  48. Sarah on September 8, 2011 at 9:01 am

I’ve been going to Yoga Oasis for yoga hour pretty frequently and OH MY GOSHHHHHH it is kicking my butt in the best way possible. I don’t know if you like to go to other studios when you can practice for freesies at work, but if you have the time, you should totes come to a class! I convince myself it’s totally worth it by reminding myself that $4 is like… a medium latte. And I feel SO much better post yoga than I do post latte (assuming, of course, I can still brew my own coffee…)

i was at YO last night 🙂

  49. Parita @ myinnershakti on September 8, 2011 at 9:13 am

So, like many of your readers (me included), you’ve been through your own weight-loss journey. I find that my “problem area” is my stomach. I am comfortable with every other part of my body for the most part, but I can’t seem to tone my stomach. I run 3x a week and do strength training 2x a week (including planks and crunches). I’m just curious as to what you did to get your abs/stomach in shape?! Anything you did in the beginning to help you along?!

    • Allie Q @ Fit Geek on September 8, 2011 at 9:54 am

I’m not a professional or anything, but from my understanding getting rid of that last little bit of fat in your belly is pretty much going to be a result of your diet. Some people naturally have flatter stomachs, so even at a higher body fat percentage their midsection looks trimmer. But for those of us who aren’t blessed with flat-tummy genes, it mostly boils down to what you eat. No amount of crunches is going to “tone” your stomach. You have to burn the fat on top to reveal whatever is below, and you do that with sensible exercise and sound nutrition.

      • Parita @ myinnershakti on September 8, 2011 at 10:57 am

Thanks, Allie! That was really helpful. I feel like my diet is pretty good, but I’m always reevaluating and tweaking it. Any nutrition tips that you find helpful?

        • Allie Q @ Fit Geek on September 8, 2011 at 2:43 pm

Everyone is different, so the most important thing is to find out what works for you. But the basics are staying away from processed foods and sweets. If you think you’ve cleaned up your diet as much as you possibly can, you might simply be eating just a little too much to cut the last few pounds. And mind you, those last few pounds are HARD to lose. You can either try to increase the amount of exercising you do, or slightly decrease the amount you eat (or a combination of both.) Sometimes just cutting out a few little treats that you give yourself can make a difference. Good luck!
