Chips and Ritas

Howdy from the Hotlanta airport 😀

airport

This day was a whirlwind, but I’m stoked to finally be on my way with Ashley to Vegas, baby. Like I said, we get to see some very important people tomorrow so I’m pretty nervous and way excited!! 😀

This morning, Ashley, Jeni and I did our recovery Insanity workout. This one is by far one of my favorites. It’s very mellow and restorative with a lot of stretching and toning work. It’s probably the only workout where none of us yell random obscenities at the TV 😉

Jeni and I hit up the Main Squeeze for smoothies and protein powahhhh.

The usual Tropical Superfood smoothie:

smoothie

With Sun Warrior and spirulina from the depths of my purse 🙂

protein

I had some random, clean-out-the-fridge unpictured snacks, did last minute packing and dropped the puppers off at their respective hotels for the weekend.

We stopped at Pita Pit so I could grab some dinner to take with me, as airport food usually isn’t my friend.

pita pit

A hummus pita on wheat with spinach, cucumber, olives, hot sauce, mustard and jalapenos. I think I scared the passenger next to me with the gusto and vigor I ate my pita with 🙂

When we got into ATL, Ashley and I hit up Chili’s.

We each got a rita:

rita

Ash ordered dinner, but I was still full from my pita.

But never too full for chips and salsa 😀

chips

Glorious.

When glancing down at my bag, I noticed a random piece of meat sitting about 6 inches from my purse.

meat

Loverly, haha.

That, and having my right foot ran over by a lady’s suitcase (and wanting to cry.. I was strong, though) have been the only noteworthy things so far. But we’re just getting started…. 😉

See ya from VEGAS! And hope you’re all continuing to have a beautiful Earth Day <3

xoxo,

Gina

Something to talk about: What are your favorite traveling snacks?? Mine are fruit, eggplant bacon, dehydrated zucchini and breakfast cookies 😀

I’m sorry your foot got ran over! Good luck in the ATL airport, it’s a crazy one! I like to travel with starburst and some trail mix with dried fruit- yum! and tons of water!

  2. Nicole @ Making Good Choices on April 22, 2010 at 9:03 pm

My favorite snacks are fruit, bars (homemade and store bought), carrots, pb sandwiches, hummus. I love packing my suitcase full of food, my husband thought I was crazy when we just went to Costa Rica, but then when he was hungry he was loving the fact I had a small store in my bag. Have fun!

  3. Kat on April 22, 2010 at 9:04 pm

you can always count on Atlanta for randomness like meat on the floor 🙂 have fun in Vegas!!!

  4. La on April 22, 2010 at 9:09 pm

awwww i miss the ATL airport. my fave travel snack are dried fruit, apples, nuts, and chocolate. But I don’t think “chocolate” counts since I always want chocolate… Have fun in Vegas missy!

  5. Erin on April 22, 2010 at 9:09 pm

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that song !!!

  6. katelyn on April 22, 2010 at 9:11 pm

    Where did the pilot go?

  7. Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin on April 22, 2010 at 9:14 pm

Margaritas are awesome. I haven’t had one in so long!

That is SO weird that there was meat on the floor… gross.

And my favorite traveling snacks? I love apples, crackers, 100 calorie packs of nuts (especially cocoa almonds) and baby carrots. All easy to eat on the go.

  8. Sarah on April 22, 2010 at 9:16 pm

Yummy that pita looks delicious. On route to Vegas my senior year of college, my sorority sisters and I started the party with some margaritas at Friday’s in the Atlanta airport.

    Have fun!!

  9. Cyndi on April 22, 2010 at 9:17 pm

Favorite traveling snacks are almonds! They do the trick. And a little chocolate hehe. Everything else is EXTRA …

  10. michelle on April 22, 2010 at 9:18 pm

random piece of meat…it was just hanging out???lol i wrote to chillis asking them if they used msg (i dont know if you eat that) in their veggies(the sesonings), they wrote back that they did, so they probably use it in their beans and rice, which is what i used to get there since they are vegetarian. do you eat msg or try and stay away from that also? i posted the letter they wrote back to me on my blog but thats the jist of it.

  11. Kelly Michelle on April 22, 2010 at 9:25 pm

ughhhh the Atlanta airport gives me nightmares, I have too much of my life there. I have had bad layover luck in my life. That includes several full days and at least three nights, or more, I’ve tried to block it all out.

  12. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on April 22, 2010 at 9:35 pm

I’m a huge fan of larabars, dried fruit, trail mix and finding a place where I can get a sandwich made with love on my layovers.

Have a FABulous time in Vegas!!! Hehe Margs… perfect way to start out a trip to Vegas.

  16. Katie on April 22, 2010 at 9:58 pm

Haha…I love that you bring your own snacks..my family calls me ‘the girl scout’ because I always have snacks (healthy) packed.. and stevia can be found at the depths of my purse 😉 haha

  17. Katherine on April 22, 2010 at 10:02 pm

I would love to have those as my favorite travel snacks! I’m not foodie-enough to make those. I’m the worst traveler because I’m not good with ‘travel food’ so I am grumpy until I get back to my fridge at home.
Next time you’re in ATL, I’d love to grab a margarita together! (Let’s avoid random pieces of meat)

oh god i would demolish that wrap too. looks sooooo tasty!!

  22. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on April 22, 2010 at 10:21 pm

Chili’s chips and salsa are the best. They’re so thin and crispy and the salsa is nice and watery. Love them.

  23. Katie on April 22, 2010 at 10:22 pm

I’m glad you have a travel companion! I once had a NINE hour layover (I was pushed o a later flight but no one told me until I arrived in ATL) all by myself. Super boring!

Mmmm…I wish I had some Chili’s chips and salsa right now!!!

    Have fun in Vegas!!

  24. Chantal on April 22, 2010 at 10:23 pm

“I think I scared the passenger next to me with the gusto and vigor I ate my pita with”

hahaha… best line I’ve heard today. Makes an awesome mental picture 😛

  25. Jessica @ WHY DONTCHA RUN on April 22, 2010 at 10:32 pm

Ok girl, I’ve gotta ask… how easy (er, difficult) is it to travel with a breakfast cookie? LOL – I’m having a hard time envisioning that one. 😉

    • s on April 23, 2010 at 12:39 am

i think you can just make it in tupperware! i did that a few times to take to class.

    • Fitnessista on April 23, 2010 at 3:53 pm

      tupperware!!

  26. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on April 22, 2010 at 10:55 pm

i love mexican food/drinks. i call ’em MARGS though lol

  28. Ariffa on April 23, 2010 at 12:06 am

this is random but i’m watching the office and I swear there’s a guy on this episode who looks just like the pilot.

  29. s on April 23, 2010 at 12:16 am

    oohh have so much fun!
lol at the random meat …

i really want to try sun warrior now! i am so sick of chocolate whey at the moment… have you ever had hemp protein? is there a brand you (or anyone else reading this comment) recommend?

    • Brittany on April 23, 2010 at 6:36 am

Hi S, I use Nutivas Hemp Protein powder and really like it. You just have to be careful with how much you use because it’s not sweetened or flavored and can be a little “earthy”. I just make sure I combine it with flavorful fruits. 🙂

  30. Brittany on April 23, 2010 at 6:31 am

My favorite travel snacks are raisins, fresh fruit, bars, almonds, and LOTS OF WATER!!

I have to be careful what I eat because flying really upsets my stomach!!

    Have a safe trip!

  31. stacey on April 23, 2010 at 7:16 am

I’m a little grossed out that your beautiful purse is on the floor of a chili’s in the ATL airport….no chair beside you?

    • Fitnessista on April 23, 2010 at 3:53 pm

NO! there was nowhere for me to hang it and it was so crowded in there 🙁 and too heavy to hang on the chair. my nana would be very upset to see that- she says purses on the floor is bad luck

  32. Heather on April 23, 2010 at 8:15 am

we’ve been travelling SO much lately, so the snacks have become imperative:

    Larabars
    snap peas
    carrots
    apples

when driving: add to the list,
beans and rice with broccoli and hot sauce mixed in 🙂

  33. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on April 23, 2010 at 8:19 am

Random piece of meat? Waaah? lol

I LOVE chips & ritas! Yum!!

  37. Heather (Heather's Dish) on April 23, 2010 at 9:08 am

cute purse!!! i LOVE dried fruit (particularly apricots) and chips 🙂

  38. Anne on April 23, 2010 at 9:19 am

The container store sells hooks that you place on the table so you can hang your purse from. That way you don’t have to put it on the floor…you have too nice of bags to be putting it on the floor next to meat!

    • Fitnessista on April 23, 2010 at 3:52 pm

it made me shudder to put it on the floor but there was nowhere to hang it!

  39. Christina on April 23, 2010 at 9:19 am

Dried fruit and luna bars are usually what I travel with.

Yuck to the meat on the floor!

  40. heather on April 23, 2010 at 9:20 am

I tend to pack snacks when I travel like I might never see civilization again. They do come in clutch though, especially when healthy options aren’t options at all. I love fruit, nuts, raw bars, cereal, sliced raw veg, and always throw in some chips for the hubby.

  41. Kathleen on April 23, 2010 at 9:47 am

    Have fun in Vegas!

  42. Ellen on April 23, 2010 at 10:06 am

I did a post about airport food this am! Glad to see even a super-healthy blogger had a ‘rita and chips 🙂 I broke down and had a McDonald’s snack wrap. ONE isn’t so bad, RIGHT?! My favorite thing to get at the airport is frozen yogurt. Mmm..

    My favorite travel snacks are:

    Fruit (apples, bananas, oranges)
    AB on Ezekliel Bread (yum)
Veggies like cucumber, cherry tomatoes, carrots, celery
    Whole grain or flax crackers
    Pita with hummus
Trail mix of almonds, walnuts, raisins or other dried fruit, and roasted soybeans
    Larabars or Pure Bars

Yay for travel. We’re going to Disney in October- can’t wait!

  44. Hilary@coffeeismycarrot on April 23, 2010 at 10:34 am

My favorite travel snack are almonds, fruit, and Kashi Go Lean Crunch dry (maybe with the almonds or some dried fruit mixed in). I also usaully have a protein bar or two in the bag.

    Have fun in Vegas!

  45. Jean on April 23, 2010 at 11:28 am

Since I have some food allergies, and tend to get crabby if my blood sugar suddenly plummets, I ALWAYS have a snack w/me – usually some larabars and fruit. I took oatmeal packets to my last work conference – better than having a danish!

I’m also curious about traveling w/a bfast cookie – how do you do that? And how long will it keep?

    • Fitnessista on April 23, 2010 at 3:51 pm

it works great in a tupperware

  46. Mary @ What's Cookin' with Mary on April 23, 2010 at 11:36 am

    Happy Travels!

I’m dying to know what your meeting is! I hope it’s something about an online store so I can buy your macaroons. 🙂

My favorite travelling snacks are almonds, dried apricots, prunes, Larabars, and usually a wrap or oatmeal from Starbucks since airport food is TERRIBLE! 🙂

  50. Kilee on April 23, 2010 at 12:32 pm

I used to love Pita Pit before I went gluten-free. It’s like the perfect portable meal. When I travel I usually bring a Larabar or a Flax4Life muffin. For some reason, I don’t really like snacks that much when I’m traveling. I would rather wait and sit down for a real meal. I know that’s not always possible. Hawaiian Airlines has some good in-flight meal options. Their executive chef is Bev Gannon, who has some really good restaurants on Maui. Have fun in Vegas!
