Last night, I was needing some energy before heading back to work (and some electrolytes after Insanity), so I made a raw vegan red bull, commonly referred to as โ€œgreen juiceโ€

juice

– 1 green apple

– 1 cucumber

– spinach

– 1/2 lemon

– spirulina a

– jealous Bella on the side ๐Ÿ˜‰ She was scoping out my juice! Little nugget.

When I got back from training appointments, I wanted a quick and easy meal.

Goat cheese, strawberry and balsamic salad:

salad

and TJs vegan split pea soup a la can:

soup

It needed a little sumthinโ€™ sumthinโ€™ so I added cayenne

+ Gold ๐Ÿ˜€

garlic

As you guys know, Iโ€™ve been a little obsessed with Garlic Gold lately. If itโ€™s savory, chances are that I sprinkle some Garlic Gold on itโ€ฆ that is, if I donโ€™t eat it by the palm full ๐Ÿ˜‰

crunchies (2)

Heh heh. I do have to point out that my gum consumption = my garlic consumption ๐Ÿ˜‰ (This garlic isnโ€™t stinky at all- it smells and tastes pretty dang lovely)

Anyway, the kind people at Garlic Gold have offered a special promo for yaโ€™ll since I love it so much- a Group Shop on Open Sky!

Hereโ€™s how it works:

– 20 people need to sign up to purchase to get the discount

– No one is charged until at least 20 people sign up

– The deal: Buy one Garlic sampler pack ($21 value) and get one FREE! $42 worth of garlicky goodness for $21

Fellow garlic lovahs rejoice! *Click here* if youโ€™d like to get in on the action- the free sampler pack would make a great gift

Well Iโ€™m off to Insanitize and then going to the dentistโ€ฆ Iโ€™ve always made appointments for when I go to Tucson, but since I havenโ€™t been home (and probably wonโ€™t be going home until the fall), I had to make an appointment here. Wish me luck! :/ My dentist happy thought: I get Zumba + Indian Food tonight

See ya later this afternoon!

Something to talk about: Which ingredient do you find yourself using allllllll the time?? My cayenne and garlic get quite a workout ๐Ÿ˜‰ Also, how does your eating style change with the seasons? Usually, over the summer, I crave way more smoothies, fruit and salads, but this summer so far has been different- I still want oats and soup! Weโ€™ll see what happens when it gets REALLY hot and muggy over here ๐Ÿ˜‰

Something to do: Summer Shape Up! Howโ€™s Week 2 going so far?

Hmmmmmmmm I might have to check out that garlic. Looks yummy!

  2. Jessica @ How Sweet on June 2, 2010 at 8:33 am

I always use garlic and smoked paprika. Sea salt, too, but that doesn’t really count. ๐Ÿ™‚

And I am in the same in warmer months – I want more fruit and fresh foods.

  3. Jessica @ Dairy Free Bety on June 2, 2010 at 8:35 am

    that garlic stuff looks tasty!!
Question for you? Re:Indian food. You don’t eat much dairy right? Do you find Indian food upsets your stomach at all? I went the other day (for the first time) and tried a whole bunch of dishes, to find out after – they have ghee in them… I had an upset stomach for 2 days afterwards…

Going to check out the summer shape up now since I’m finally home!!

  4. Cassie @ A Very Busy Mind on June 2, 2010 at 8:42 am

I find I’m always reaching for the crushed red pepper; I top everything savory with it! Like you, I love spicy!

My eating hasn’t changed with the season yet either. Still oats and hot coffee almost every morning for me.

  5. Faith @ LovelyAsCharged on June 2, 2010 at 9:01 am

In the summer I go for more cold pastas and lots more salads. I throw garlic on EVERYTHING, and although it’s not a spice, I find myself putting spinach in a TON of my meals! I seriously go through one and a half of the Sams Club sized tubs in a week!

  6. Emily B on June 2, 2010 at 9:02 am

we just got a new spice rack – as in one month again – and i’m almost completely out of cinnamon – most of the others haven’t even been touched.

  7. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on June 2, 2010 at 9:05 am

I use a ton of garlic and cayenne too… and red pepper flakes! I might actually buy this darn garlic gold stuff!

  8. Katie on June 2, 2010 at 9:10 am

    COngrats to the winner!!!!!!

Yay for Indian Food Wednesday for you!!!!

I use cinnamon alot!! Love it! I do love garlic as well but never use it, this needs to change!

Have a great day and good luck at the dentist! xoxo

  9. Ilana on June 2, 2010 at 9:12 am

Juice. Needed. In. My. Life. Now.

My #1 used spice is cinnamon. My best friend told me that he gets surprised when he eats something I make and there isnt a hit of cinnamon in it, I use it that often. I keep it on the counter with the salt and pepper and olive oil.

  10. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on June 2, 2010 at 9:12 am

Ah, don’t eat garlic before the dentist! (I hate garlic. I know, gasp. I can’t do it–I get a stomach ache.)

I always put vinegar on everything. I think it makes anything taste better–rice, beans, chicken, whatever. I love all kinds of vinegar. I’m sort of obsessed.

  11. Alexis on June 2, 2010 at 9:13 am

I put red pepper flakes on EVERYTHING, it’s kind of weird. I don’t know exactly why (because I’m not a huge fan of spicy stuff), but I love the way the heat just warms the back of your mouth.

And Frank’s Red Hot. I should probably buy stock in that company, I go through at least a bottle every two months :-\

  12. Erin Edwards on June 2, 2010 at 9:18 am

That’s a great deal on the Garlic Gold, especially since they are $5 each at my Publix!

    & your salad looks beautiful!

    • Fitnessista on June 2, 2010 at 9:40 am

seriously- in the stores, that stuff is expensive!

  13. Andie (yuminmytumtum) on June 2, 2010 at 9:23 am

I did the speed workout you posted yesterday and it was hardcoreeee. I was covered in sweat when I was finishing the 5 minute jog and felt amazing!!!

    • Fitnessista on June 2, 2010 at 9:40 am

      wahoo!!

  14. allison @ livingoneday on June 2, 2010 at 9:24 am

im huge about fresh fruits and light meals in the summer. for some reason anything more than fruit and salads make me nauseated in hot weather. and ingredients that i use all the time are evoo, garlic, fresh basil, and tomatoes. lurve

  15. CaSaundra on June 2, 2010 at 9:27 am

That balsamic/strawberry/goat cheese salad sounds so fresh and tasty–perfect for these hot summer days!

  16. dotsie on June 2, 2010 at 9:46 am

I usually crave salads and fruit this time of year, but I, too, have been eating my oats! ๐Ÿ˜€

I guess my version of the Summer Shape Up is this boot camp class I am doing–it’s totally stirred up my routine of walking on the treadmill, ellipticalling, spin classes, and heavy weight lifing! It’s a 4 week camp, but I will be signing up for more!

  17. Emily N on June 2, 2010 at 9:48 am

Hi Gina, I definitely do less rolls, pizas, and hot soups in the summer. That said, I do have some room temperature soups – like cucumber soup w/ a yogurt base or Thai cooconut soup.
I was actually thinking of my can’t-live-without food staples on the way to work. In random order: avocados, adobo spice, bean sprouts, garlic, greek yogurt, and edamame.

  18. Annie D. from Annie'sSimpleLife on June 2, 2010 at 9:51 am

I use garlic ALL the time. Oh, and Franks Red Hot Sauce.

  19. jenny in new york on June 2, 2010 at 10:01 am

I find myself using a lot of salsa! Probably because I’ve been eating a lot of mexican food lately ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • s on June 2, 2010 at 10:41 am

omg, yes, me toooo. i go through a jar of salsa in like 3-4 days.

  20. McKella on June 2, 2010 at 10:04 am

Looks like the doggie wants some green juice too!

  21. Therese on June 2, 2010 at 10:05 am

I definitely use garlic a LOT! Garlic and peanut butter (not necessarily together)! I’m the same as you re: eating through the seasons. Light food in the summer, comfort food in the winter!

  22. Robyn @ Frugal 'n' Fit! on June 2, 2010 at 10:15 am

I have a dentist appointment today too! Booooo to that.

I live in Canada so I definitely find it easier to eat in the summer. The variety and availability of fruits and vegetables is so much better, and I can head to my local farmer’s markets. I wish I craved lighter foods in the summer, but I am still a Carb Monster year round!

  23. Nichole on June 2, 2010 at 10:18 am

That raw vegan red bull looks fantastic. Never thought of adding apple.

My grandmother has a garden so the summer foods tend to rotate around what’s fresh. She has picked bushels of delicious strawberries. They are unreal naturally sweet, I can’t get over it.

I think an ingredient we use a lot is definitely garlic, but also red onion seems to sneak it’s way into a lot of our recipes.

Have fun at ze dentist. OMG I can’t tell you how I dread those visits.

  24. Heather (Heather's Dish) on June 2, 2010 at 10:24 am

i always use my salt, pepper, and garlic (both fresh and powdered)…it’s a staple, and everything i use those on turns out great! well, maybe not cookies, but you know what i mean ๐Ÿ˜‰

  25. Elise on June 2, 2010 at 10:34 am

I always use up my cumin before I know what has happened to it. It’s ridiculous how fast that stuff goes! Love me some cumin. And Mexican food.

  26. s on June 2, 2010 at 10:40 am

chili powder goes in everything i make. except desserts. i recently bought paprika to try on mac n cheese. (exciting new spice for me, as i cant think of the last time i personally added paprika to anything.)
i’d love to try this garlic Au stuff – it sounds fantastic. im going to think about it and then maybe get some.

  27. Courtney on June 2, 2010 at 10:43 am

I definitely switch to cooler foods in the summer like smoothies for breakfast, salads for dinner, etc. It’s so refreshing to have cool, fresh, crisp foods in the summer.

  28. Fueling for Fitness on June 2, 2010 at 10:44 am

I’ve been using tons of cinnamon in my breakfast, and dill and turmeric are popping up wherever possible in my sandwiches, salads, eggs, you name it – I’ve added it. ๐Ÿ˜€

    -Alison

  29. Hilary@coffeeismycarrot on June 2, 2010 at 10:58 am

I put garlic in almost all recipes savory and cinnamon for the sweeter creations. I go through tons of both.

  30. I use smoked paprika loads and also balsamic on my salads. Cumin seeds is a fairly newish spice in our house now as I used to hate it. But since giving up smoking 2 years ago there are so many tastes I love now that I didn’t before. I esp love crushing cumin seeds with a pinch of tumeric and rubbing it on lean lamb steaks as a spice rub. Delish!!

  31. Dynamics on June 2, 2010 at 11:08 am

Garlic, Sandwich Sprinkle and Foxpoint. I get all my herbs and spices at Penzeys. They have some amazing blends.

  32. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on June 2, 2010 at 11:09 am

Spicy anything: red pepper flakes, Cholula, Sriacha, etc!

  33. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on June 2, 2010 at 11:11 am

I always use cinnamon on everything! I don’t know what it is, but I guess everything is better with cinnamon.

  34. Katheryn on June 2, 2010 at 11:15 am

I use cinnamon with everything. Love it!

  35. Heather @ get healthy with Heather on June 2, 2010 at 11:20 am

  38. Evelyn @ cheers2healthy on June 2, 2010 at 11:33 am

You like your food garlicy & spicy just like me! I add Tabasco sauce to everything. I might as well carry it around in my purse : P

  39. Shannon @ Before Sunrise on June 2, 2010 at 11:38 am

That garlic looks delicious! And what a great deal… I may have to go for it!
I usually crave salads, smoothies, veggies – basically anything cool and crunchy during the summer however I am a new fan of Oatmeal Pancakes so I’ve been having those a lot in the mornings instead of a smoothie or yogurt with fruit. It must be something going around that we are still opting for oats even though it’s getting hot out! ๐Ÿ™‚

  40. Emily Lou on June 2, 2010 at 11:43 am

I love cinnamon. I even carried around a mini-sized cinnamon container this year, so I could add a special touch to lunch on-the-run. I’m also really big on cold salads, fresh fruit and icy smoothies in the summer. However, I’m not even a huge fan of soup and warm sandwiches in the winter. I definitely prefer cool foods to warm foods.

Question: You use a juicer for you juices, right? I’m just thinking it wouldn’t quite work out in a blender…

  41. Amy on June 2, 2010 at 11:51 am

My bottle of Montreal Spicy Steak Seasonings gets used a lot, especially when grilling or roasting veggies. Gives it a little kick!

That and hot sauce. I like things spicy!

  42. Melanie on June 2, 2010 at 12:01 pm

I use tahini, shoyu, cinnamon and garlic alot.

  43. Alycia @ Fit n Fresh on June 2, 2010 at 12:06 pm

I looooove dill and coarse sea salt. I also have a habit of using fish sauce quite often, we love our Thai food ’round here.

I’ve been eating that exact strawberry/goat cheese/balsamic salad all week. A total favorite.

  46. Vicki on June 2, 2010 at 12:58 pm

  47. Jenn on June 2, 2010 at 1:13 pm

I use tonssss of cilantro and garlic powder! And in the summer, I’m all about salads and sushi. I think I probably eat the same during winter, too. But with the added treats of fall and winter holidays.

  48. Catherine on June 2, 2010 at 1:20 pm

Summer I feel like I live on salads and cold fruit and the winter I want everything in soup form!

Oh man, my cayenne pepper, sea salt and hot sauce get replaced quite frequently!!

  49. Kristina on June 2, 2010 at 1:36 pm

definitely my #1 is garlic… I’ve been seeing you use the Garlic Gold and have wanted to try, so this is perfect! I am now waiting for my supply to arrive… ๐Ÿ™‚ thanks for the fabulous opportunity!
