Friday Faves (+ a giveaway)

Hi! TGIF. Hope youโ€™ve had a wonderful week and have some fun plans to look forward to this weekend! We have a couple of fun things in the works, and Iโ€™m so excited to see Gone Girl this weekend. I know it probably wonโ€™t live up to the book, butโ€ฆ Ben Affleck.

Some faves from the week and around the web:

Fall centerpieces! Even though it was 90 degrees while I put this one together, it felt so right. I got everything at Home Goods; love the leaves, and love that it isnโ€™t too Halloween-y and can stick around until Thanksgiving.

We have figs in the yard! I was a little apprehensive about eating them -it all comes back to childhood trauma from when I ate mushrooms growing outside. It was not a good experience for anyone- but they are delicious.

How to determine blood test results. So helpful!!

What weightlifting for 20 minutes does for your brain.

An amazing feature from Cosmopolitan. Thank you so much for including me <3

All about that upright bass. SO GOOD.

Easy reminders to get in your workout.

Count me healthy bracelets. I was so excited when Chelsea Charles reached out to me about these awesome bracelets. I mean, my permanent marker on the water bottle trick worked to count my water intake, but this is a little more fun. ๐Ÿ˜‰

These gorgeous bracelets can be used to count anything youโ€™d like to track. Some ideas: water intake, weekly workouts, nursing or pumping sessions for mamas, words of kindness, or positive thoughts. They can also be a helpful technique for those who are looking to break habits, such as cigarette smoking (by counting how many days youโ€™ve gone without), or reducing artificial sweeteners. All you do is slide is the little beads from side to side.

Wearing it throughout the day is also a beautiful visual reminder of your goals. I love how well-constructed the bracelets are; while dainty, theyโ€™re extremely durable.

Chelsea Charles kindly sent me two bracelets: one for me, and one for one of you. The rose gold Tri-color bracelet I have to give away is valued at $105, and since itโ€™s in my possession, you never know what will make itโ€™s way into the winnerโ€™s goodie mail. (Iโ€™ve been known to put in fun beauty products, homemade cookies, snacks and treats.)

Today I’m loving that I get to go home and visit my family farm. It’s harvest time here in Iowa and there is nothing better than a small town and fields full of hard working farmers!

I’m loving my smiling babies’ pictures on my phone today because they’ve kept me from spiraling down into what was turning into an awful day. Looking at their big smiles turned my mood around.

I’ve been counting my workouts as a reminder to get one in at least every other day as I ease my way back into a healthy and fit lifestyle. This bracelet would be a beautiful reminder!

The bracelet is so pretty! I would definitely use it to track water…90 degree weather in NorCal is not really how fall is supposed to be

I would use that bracelet to try and kick my diet coke habit. I’ve been loving different tea flavors lately – especially the ones that smell like the holidays! (and yet I still have the diet coke habit ๐Ÿ™‚ )

I am so jealous of your figs! I wonder if I could get a tree (plant?) to grow in Missouri? I would probably have to say that I would track water. So hard in the winter!

    Have a great weekend!

Today I am loving that we got to move to Hawaii and experience the unique beauty (and difficulties) of island living. After months of having to choose gratitude after a particularly rough move, actually feeling gratitude effortlessly and fully has been a wonderful change. I am grateful to feel grateful. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  27. Michelle Rae on October 10, 2014 at 3:15 pm

Today I love life! I had a bad day yesterday and at the end of the day I made the affirmation that today was going to be great. I totally think the positive attitude has made this day great!

And I would definitely use that bracelet to track water intake, I have been really working on “upping” my water intake as I find if I don’t drink enough I get really bad headaches!

  40. Elyse on October 10, 2014 at 3:48 pm

Something I’m loving today is the results of something I’ve been trying lately: I read an article about healthy relationships, and it said to make a point to praise your partner about something specific about them that you love – not just that you love them. Like “It makes my heart warm to see you with our daughter” or “thank you so much for replacing that light in the garage baby, it makes my mornings so much easier”, etc etc. I started doing this daily with my partner and he just glows and is so happy to be appreciated. The key is you aren’t expecting anything back, you are just showering love on your person. But what I’ve noticed is that it comes back tenfold; last night my dude brought me home flowers, cooked me dinner, and was just generally really attentive and sweet. <3 By the way that bracelet is so pretty, I love it!

  41. Ashley Bible on October 10, 2014 at 3:48 pm

I love that these bracelets don’t look “fitness-y” , but can be used as a big time motivator such as counting daily exercise!

  42. Katie G on October 10, 2014 at 3:51 pm

I’m trying to overcome my anxiety and I’m supposed to do some mental exercises every day. I definitely need help keeping on track!

  43. Ella on October 10, 2014 at 3:52 pm

Aww I love the bracelet. Between work, kids, husband and all the things around the house I could use it to be reminded to do something for myself?

  44. Christine Ortiz on October 10, 2014 at 3:54 pm

I would love to have this bracelet to count my water intake. I have such trouble hitting my goal everyday.

  45. T.J. on October 10, 2014 at 3:54 pm

    Hi Gina-
I would count my water intake…I’m so bad at it, but as a middle school teacher you can’t leave your classroom to go all the time either! I’ve been reading your blog for a couple years and look forward to it as a little zen in my busy day.
    Thanks ๐Ÿ˜€

  47. Holly G. on October 10, 2014 at 4:00 pm

I’m a recent college grad working on becoming more confident in my new job. I would use a bracelet to count the times I spoke up or took on something challenging.

  48. Christina F. on October 10, 2014 at 4:02 pm

Great idea – and cute too. Would love it to track weekly workouts ๐Ÿ™‚

  49. DC on October 10, 2014 at 4:04 pm

Love these bracelets! For now I would use to track nursing/pumping sessions, including which side I am on. Would love to think of something more original or fun after I’m not nursing.

  50. Kayla on October 10, 2014 at 4:04 pm

What a cute idea! I would use the bracelet to count how many meals/snacks I put on a plate. I’m trying to kick my habit of eating from a bag!
