Glamour Shots

Hey hey hey 😀 How’s your day been??

Mine has been pretty bueno… look what Mr. Postman brought today!

rebel

She’s here!

Like I told ya’ll last week, I ordered *this cam* from Amazon. I also ordered an extra lens for it, which should be here tomorrow.

As tempted as I was to take some glamour shots of this salad….

salad

I had to hurry off to work, but I CAN’T WAIT to play with the new camera tonight 😀

The beauty salad had arugula, watermelon from the farm, honey goat cheese, balsamic and fresh basil

For realz.

Some of today’s events:

Viesa went to the vet for her Bordatella and heartworm test

vies

She cried. So did our debit card.

To treat the puppers for being so good, I picked them up a kid’s size vanilla ice cream from Bruster’s

ice cream

They LOVE vanilla ice cream 😀

Little nuggets 😉

This morning, I did weights (back and biceps) and TurboFired for cardio. It feels SO good to have my workouts out of the way—sometimes when I save them for later in the day or at night, my enthusiasm and energy levels fall a little.

Snackage:

Peach Sun Warrior smoothie

(Glass Straws are *here*)

Sabras Spicy Hummus w/ an organic cucumber

Larabar

I’m off to start on the HLS macaroons, showa and then meet the girls for sushi 😀

Have a lovely night!

xoxo,

Gina

Something to think: ”Fake it until you FEEL it” This was taught to me by the fabulous Mindy Mylrea, a fireball of energy and fitness goddess, and holds true for so many things in life — she joked that it’s the reason she’s been married for 27 years 😉 If you wake up thinking “I feel tired and gross today”, guess what? You’re going to feel tired and gross all day. Sometimes we don’t want to do things in life (like when I’m driving to teach and think “I really don’t want to teach aerobics right now”) once we get there, we fake it (I see my students and say “Hey!! I’m so excited to workout with you guys right now!”) and then we feel it (I end up having an awesome class). Try it. Next time you’re blah-thinking yourself, fake it. Before you know it, you’ll feel it 🙂

Hooray!!! You’re gonna love love love it!! Just in time for HLS–how perfect.

    • Fitnessista on August 9, 2010 at 4:33 pm

thank you! that’s why i wanted to get it asap.. so all the pros at HLS can teach me how to use it 🙂

  2. brittney on August 9, 2010 at 4:35 pm

    That salad looks ridiculously good.

  3. Angela on August 9, 2010 at 4:36 pm

The comment from Mindy Mylrea is so true – it really all is a state of mind. I was feeling exactly that way Saturday (because I slept until noon). But I pushed myself at the gym, trying my first HIIT workout, which I loved, and ate pretty clean. Instead of focusing on what I thought was wrong I tried to make an effort to focus on what I could do right. And I did feel better at the end.

Exciting news about your camera! Can’t wait to see some new photos. 🙂

  4. Laura on August 9, 2010 at 4:36 pm

I love that advice and totally believe that you can’t always control your situation but you can control how you think about it and even trick yourself into being positive.

I’ve also tried to use your Pilot’s advice about not treating everything like it is a level “10” on the stress scale. Especially when it comes to road rage. Gotta keep the brain in positive shape too 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 9, 2010 at 5:11 pm

ahah girl, i’m right there with ya on the road rage. i’m terrible

  5. dotsie on August 9, 2010 at 4:37 pm

Yes, I definitely believe in the fake til you make it/fake it til you feel it thing!!! Definitely, definitely, definitely!!!

The pups are super cute, as always. You’re sweet to treat them with ice cream 🙂

have fun with the camera!!! YAY!

  6. Lauren @ BIOCHEMISTA on August 9, 2010 at 4:39 pm

Totally agree with the “fake it until you feel it!” I think that also works when you’re feeling a little sick. When I have a head cold and I think “Waaaahhh, I feel so miserable” – I DO feel miserable. But when I say ” I’m OK. I feel good”, I def feel MUCH better 🙂

  7. Holly @ couchpotatoathlete on August 9, 2010 at 4:46 pm

I love “fake it til you make it” because it is so true! I try to tell myself those positive thoughts all the time, just to get my mind in the right place.

I love salads with watermelon — it is so refreshing!

  8. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on August 9, 2010 at 4:46 pm

I’ve definitely been trying to work on that whole “fake it until you make it” mind-set… unfortunately, I’ve been trying to convince myself that I’m not sick, and I don’t think it’s working!! 🙁

I always get my pup vanilla ice cream after a vet visit, too! It’s her favorite!

  9. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on August 9, 2010 at 4:49 pm

I love watermelon in salad. That sounds so good! Can’t wait to see some pics with the new camera.

  10. Jessica @ How Sweet on August 9, 2010 at 4:51 pm

I totally agree with that! I usually say “fake it til ya make it.” 🙂

  11. Bethany @ More Fruit Please on August 9, 2010 at 4:51 pm

I’ve been thinking of getting a DSLR camera for a while now… can’t wait to hear what you think of it!

  12. Ilana on August 9, 2010 at 4:51 pm

Fake it til you feel it is my life’s motto – and I definitely needed a reminder of it today. Thanks, Gina!!

  13. Katy @MonsterProof on August 9, 2010 at 4:55 pm

I definitely subscribe to the fake it til you feel it mentality. Goes along with my favorite quote (of which I don’t know the source):

“Smile, it makes people wonder what you’re thinking”

  14. Maren on August 9, 2010 at 4:58 pm

How exciting! Fake it until you feel it is just perfect for a Monday! It’s definitely going to help me get to the gym! 🙂

  15. Kathryn on August 9, 2010 at 5:01 pm

love the ice cream…we have a place here in VA that if “dogs bring their owners”, the dogs get a free small vanilla 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 9, 2010 at 5:10 pm

      that’s so cute!!

  16. Heather (Heather's Dish) on August 9, 2010 at 5:05 pm

totally agree…sometimes i just have to say i feel AMAZING and then it magically comes true 🙂 mind over matter!

  17. Angela on August 9, 2010 at 5:21 pm

Aww my puppy LOVES vanilla ice cream!

  18. Jill on August 9, 2010 at 5:22 pm

I fake it till I make it all the time! It’s pretty much how I tear myself out of bed every morning (not a morning person over here). While I’m a fan of faking things like energy and moods when needed (e.g., on the way to work, certain social outings I could live without), there are just some things that should never be faked.

    Like:
-coffee (Tecchino, I love you but you’ll never be my #1)
-tans during Canadian winters (yes, I’ve done it- badly)
-accents of any kind (Madonna, please jot this one down)

But you’re right about the power of mind-sets! You’ve inspired me to fake-it-till-I make-it to the gym right now!

  19. Katherine @ Left Coast Contessa on August 9, 2010 at 5:25 pm

Love the “Fake it til you feel it” reminder! School starts again in a week and a half and I’m having a hard time getting excited about going back for more grad school punishment. Its all about approaching it with a positive attitude!

  20. Diana @ VEGeneration on August 9, 2010 at 5:33 pm

I think the “fake it til you feel it” mantra is perfect for those mornings I don’t want to get up early and work out!

  21. Ellen@FirednFabulous on August 9, 2010 at 5:46 pm

Lucky pooches! And I like your “fake it till you feel it” mantra…it’s SO true.

  22. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on August 9, 2010 at 5:51 pm

Congrats on the new camera! That salad looks delicious!!! Watermelon and basil pair so well together.

  23. LisaG on August 9, 2010 at 5:54 pm

Love your treats for the fur babies. Have u ever gotten the doggie icecream treats @ Publix? I must mAke that salad tonight! Thanx for the pep talk.

    • Fitnessista on August 9, 2010 at 6:11 pm

      yes, they love them!

  24. Nicole @ Getting Back to the Basics on August 9, 2010 at 6:01 pm

My workouts keep getting later and later each night…I just feel pooped out when I get home. I need to muster the motivation to workout in the morning!!

  25. Kimberly on August 9, 2010 at 6:07 pm

My pup loves ice cream, but it doesn’t always agree with her so now I make her a treat of banana soft serve and she LOVES it!

Have fun with your new toy! It is great that you have it in time for HLS. I find it easier to learn new electronics when I have someone helping me instead of reading a guide.

  26. Lindsay @ The Ketchup Diaries on August 9, 2010 at 6:14 pm

HLS macaroons?!?! Oh, be still my heart!! I was excited to meet you in person anyway, but now you’re promising macaroons.

    • Fitnessista on August 9, 2010 at 6:49 pm

yup, when you see me, ask for roons! i’ll have them in my purse and extras in the hotel room 🙂

      • Fitnessista on August 9, 2010 at 6:49 pm

so excited to meet you too!

      • Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life on August 9, 2010 at 10:36 pm

I totally need to get in on these roons too! If you see someone running full speed towards you screaming “GIMME ROONS” you’ll know it’s me. 😉 So excited to meet BOTH of you!

  27. Rachael on August 9, 2010 at 6:15 pm

Congrats on the camera. I’m jealous 🙂
I love that your dogs eat ice cream – my golden used to go bat-crazy over rocky road (alas, he would not touch strawberry, mint or vanilla. Go figure)
Fake it till you make it was a common theme in the inpatient program I participated in years ago. I bristled at the time – we’re we supposed to be practicing being authentic – but ultimately, the whole mindset changing part of it definitely works!

  28. Ann Liu on August 9, 2010 at 6:31 pm

I love the “fake it until you feel it” motto! It reminds me of how one of the best ways to wake up is to just jump out of bed instead of lounging around. I’ve tried it before on really lazy days and, even though it feels silly, it makes me laugh and starts me off on a good note 🙂

  29. nicole on August 9, 2010 at 6:34 pm

Love the fake it until you feel it! I kinda apply that when I’m feeling hungover- instead of thinking about how awful I feel I think I feel pretty decent and get my workout on! It works 70% of the time and helps me get the day started rather than feel bad all day.

  30. Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life on August 9, 2010 at 6:42 pm

I definitely agree with you on morning workouts. I love knowing that it is done and out of the way for the rest of the day. 🙂

  31. McKella on August 9, 2010 at 6:58 pm

Good advice on feeling tired and gross, which is how I feel today. Being a girl is just awesome sometimes (read sarcasm). Maybe I’ll try to change my attitude and get something done today! Or tomorrow…

  32. Jodie on August 9, 2010 at 7:10 pm

Great advice. Have fun at the summit.

  33. Erin on August 9, 2010 at 7:34 pm

Congrats on the camera! Very jealous — your pics are going to be insanely good! 😀

  34. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on August 9, 2010 at 7:47 pm

I definitely fake it when I come to zumba after a looong day. But by the end I’m truly dancing. I love it 🙂

  35. Lana Wilson on August 9, 2010 at 8:28 pm

Congrats on the new camera!!! Cant wait for glorious glamour shots!

  36. Liz @ Blog is the New Black on August 9, 2010 at 8:59 pm

  37. kelsey@snackingsquirrel.com on August 9, 2010 at 9:03 pm

your SUCH A REBEL! lol, seriously tho, im expecting some even more fabulous pics to come from you soon 🙂 YAY!!

  38. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on August 9, 2010 at 9:09 pm

Ahh congrats on the camera!! I’m dying for one of my own. Can’t wait to hear what you think of it!!

  39. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on August 9, 2010 at 9:57 pm

Great advice and totally true! I had to use that advice this morning when I got up this morning from a night of tossing and turning. At first I was grumpy because I knew I’d be tired. But then I told myself just to get up and smile because there was nothing else I could do about it! 🙂

  40. Wendy on August 9, 2010 at 10:00 pm

AHHHH! Your new cameraaaaaa!! TOTALLY can’t wait to see the masterpiece shots you get with that baby!
Had a cashew cookie Larabar today too….was the first time I tried that flavor. It was good! My fave is still cherry pie.

  41. Kristy on August 9, 2010 at 10:12 pm

This dog + ice creme thing = my dog might love you 😉

  42. Jessica (Fit and Clean) on August 9, 2010 at 10:59 pm

Fake it till you make it…I’ve never heard it put that way before! What a great saying 😉

  43. Jackie (Peaces of Earth) on August 9, 2010 at 11:40 pm

Yay for your camera!! You are going to LOVE IT!

“Fake it until you FEEL it” – I love that!! This was huge when I was trying to overhaul my confidence and body image. If I was feeling “ick” I just pretended I didn’t, until I felt great! It seriously did wonders.

  44. Amy on August 10, 2010 at 12:21 am

I’m going to sound like such a negative nancy…but I thought it was really bad to give dogs sugar? My mother has always banned us from giving our pets treats that involve sugar, a vet once told her it would give them diabetes?

    • Fitnessista on August 10, 2010 at 8:11 am

they only get ice cream once every few months when they go to the vet- plain vanilla is totally safe for dogs but i would never give it to them on a regular basis

  45. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on August 10, 2010 at 1:03 am

Per the last comment, I meant to say I have an autoresponder on my email addy that’s associated w/ my blog that anyone can “find me” on. You have my personal email; you’ll never get auto-responded to LOL

The camera…SCORE! Cant wait to see how you like it. I admit I know NOTHING about cams but everyone says that’s the one to get and if you master it and love it, I’ll buy it. You’re the guinea pig 🙂 Some of the girls who recommend it are like photographers..whereas I, am not…:)

Fake it til you Make It. that’s the expression ive been using for 2 decades. I have all kinds of stories i could tell you but suffice to say, there are about a million times that i dont feel like doing what i have to do and that is my #1 motto! Fake it til you make it. 95% of the time, it works and I dont even have to fake it anymore once I get into the groove of it.

  46. Alexa@Living La Vida Pura on August 10, 2010 at 3:05 am

Woooo! The Rebel is the perfect camera for a blogger who isn’t trying to get into professional photography. Lighter than a 7D, uses an SD card (some laptops have SD card readers, like mine), and just as nice! Also significantly less expensive 😛

    Which lenses did you get?

    • Fitnessista on August 10, 2010 at 8:10 am

      50mm

  47. Carrie on August 10, 2010 at 3:06 am

Hi Gina!!! My little puppers looooooove some vanilla ice cream too!!! They like to like it off their noses!!! I have to physically restrain myself to give them a quarter cup each after the vet occasionally etc… 😉

But they go CRRRRAAAAZY… truly competition for a treat smeared with AB or PB, the second fave!!!! Your babies are so incredibly cute. 🙂

  48. Carrie on August 10, 2010 at 3:07 am

Whoops…that was supposed to be lick it off their noses. Oops. 😉

  49. Katie on August 10, 2010 at 7:59 am

The camera sounds great! Im looking to get a new camera but dont know anything about cameras! I am excited to see how you like this one! Maybe I will have to look into it : )

Yay for HLS, I wish I was going, but have so much fun!

  50. Cyndi @ Weightless Life on August 10, 2010 at 8:09 am

I definitely try to have a positive outlook when it comes to my workouts. I know that if I can into a run/cardio/whatever thinking it’s going to suck, it does. So instead I try to get myself excited about it, and those end up being my best workouts. How do you get yourself in the mood for exercise?
