Moody Server, Sparkly Casa

Hey guys ๐Ÿ˜€

bella

Sorry the blog decided to disappear today! Apparently the server and the blog are having a little drama, but theyโ€™ve got it resolved for now ๐Ÿ˜‰

This afternoon, I made the pilot some lunchโ€ฆ and he made me LAZY ๐Ÿ˜€ I had so much to do, but when heโ€™s home, I just want to hang out with him!

I did get some cheesy kale chips in the dehydrator:

kale chips

And proceeded to eat about half of them throughout the course of the day ๐Ÿ˜‰ Theyโ€™re so good when theyโ€™re warm!

More random eats:

Smoothie

-Almond milk

-Bananner

-Raw cacao powder

Sun Warrior

Cacao nibs

Egg-stada with goat gouda and Texas Pete:

Coconut water after spinning:

I was pretty stoked because when I got home from work, I saw a sparkling kitchen– the pilot did all of the dishes and cleaned up around here.

house (3)

Lurve.

Hereโ€™s how we split up the chores in our casa:

Me: Bedrooms, my laundry (I wonโ€™t touch his stinky man laundry), cooking, grocery shopping

Pilot: His laundry, trash, dishes, yard/handyman stuff, floors (he Swiffers and vacuumsโ€ฆand I love him, haha)

How do you split up the duties in your casa?

The pilot says he will donate his chores to our future children. Heโ€™s a generous guy like that ๐Ÿ˜‰

Iโ€™m off to make some dinner and read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

See ya in the morning <3

xoxo,

Gina

Woot! Go Pilot!!! What a gorgeous kitchen!

  2. Faith @ LovelyAsCharged on July 20, 2010 at 9:16 pm

    Kudos to the pilot!

My roommate and I clean our respective rooms and bathrooms plus our own cooking, I do the dishes/tidy the kitchen (I think I established this as my domain the first week I moved in, haha) and she takes care of the living/tv room. It works so well!

My fabulous hubs does the dishes every. single. day. (swoon) Generally I cook, grocery shop, and do most of the cleaning (especially bathrooms — the man hates. bathrooms.), but he does the laundry (which is actually a task when living in an apartment sans washer) and vacuums at my bidding (haha…jk….kind of). But, we are both flexible so sometimes we switch it up if one of us needs it. He is especially awesome at picking up my slack! : ) heh heh.

Hurrah for good men and clean houses!

  5. Ilana on July 20, 2010 at 9:21 pm

Um…your hubby vacuums??!! That’s a “keeper” trait in and of itself! Last week my boyfriend picked me up and brought me over to his house…to help him fold laundry. Sexyyyy. My roommate and I split it pretty evenly – we each do our own stuff, rooms/laundry/dishes/etc, and the kitchen and bathroom gets cleaned by whichever of us gets the whim to. It’s pretty evenly done. Although I am ALWAYS taking out the garbage, it kind of annoys me…

Loving all those articles at the end. I love yoga-Pilates fusion. It’s my dream to one day own a fusion studio.

Love having a guy who will help out around the house. My mom used to do EVERYTHING (all the laundry, cooking, shopping, and cleaning) so I’d made not sure to start off doing everything when Isaac and I moved in together. He does his own laundry, some of the shopping, some of the cleaning, and all the yard work. I do most of the shopping, cooking, and lots of the cleaning.

    • Fitnessista on July 20, 2010 at 10:08 pm

our family was the SAME way. my mom would do -still does!- everything

  7. Bethany @ More Fruit Please on July 20, 2010 at 9:56 pm

Awww…. how sweet of the Pilot! Any guy who cleans is definitely a keeper! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  8. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on July 20, 2010 at 9:57 pm

We split the stuff when we have time – he takes the outside, I do the inside, but he usually always vacuums and does dishes and cleans toilets! Thank goodness. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Morgan on July 20, 2010 at 9:58 pm

We share. I cook, he does dishes. I do most of the cleaning, he vacuums because I HATE it. We both do laundry. We are moving to our first house that is ours, and our first yard, so we’ll see what happens with that!
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was so hard to get into, but then I couldn’t put it down! I just finished it, and have plans to start The Girl Who Played With Fire after the move. Such a great story!

  10. Donna Porter on July 20, 2010 at 10:01 pm

Being a military family, I take every advantage when the hubby is home! Our chores, when he is home, I take care of every room except the bathrooms and mopping the kitchen floor! We also have three kids, oldest job is the trash, middle child is the recycling, youngest is ensuring the sprinkler in the backyard is on for 15 minutes every night. But I have to ask what’s the big deal with his laundry? My thought is (and please know this is in NO way a judgement, I’m just curious how other people live!) is once we married we both inherited each other! He’ll do the laundry or I’ll do it…doesn’t matter who’s clothes are in there! I once had a friend who hated the military so much that she would never allow her husband to wear his uniform in the house. I find people’s lives interesting and hey..whatever works for you ๐Ÿ™‚ lol

    • Fitnessista on July 20, 2010 at 10:08 pm

i just feel like his clothes get stinkier (hahah) and i know he would do something like throw an expensive dress or a pair of lace panties in the dryer. not that it would be that big of a deal, but i prefer to do my own ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Donna Porter on July 20, 2010 at 10:41 pm

I understand, just curious! I have had many clothes that have come out smaller or a little “pink” when we first got married! LOL

        • Fitnessista on July 21, 2010 at 8:55 am

          haha exactly!

  11. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on July 20, 2010 at 10:04 pm

In my parents’ house, I do all the laundry and cooking! I swear, my mom was waiting for me to be born so she could pass on the laundry duties as soon as I was old enough to reach the knobs. I love being at school, because I only have to clean up after myself!

  12. Jill@MySoCalledHealthLife on July 20, 2010 at 10:08 pm

We both typically do our own laundry too, but it’s mostly cuz I don’t trust him with my clothes! haha. Don’t tell him I told you ๐Ÿ˜‰

  13. Allison @ Food For Healing on July 20, 2010 at 10:08 pm

i absolutely LOVE your kitchen, it is beautiful, much like you!

I do most of the chores around here, sweeping, vacuuming, dishes, shopping, litter box duty, toilet scrubbing, laundry. But my man will do the dishes sometimes and helps put away the laundry. I’m not really complaining, because i dont mind! i like being a handy lil housewife (not wife yet though)

    • Fitnessista on July 20, 2010 at 10:14 pm

      thank you <3
      i'm the same way- i don't mind it ๐Ÿ™‚

      oooooh! good luck!

  15. Alyssa @ bride to be fit on July 20, 2010 at 10:11 pm

We pretty much split the chores depending on who is around and when. Sometimes my fiancรฉ works from home, and when he does, I usually come home to a sparkly apartment :). I cook, he cleans. I grocery shop, he unloads the groceries. Works out well ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. ActiveEggplant on July 20, 2010 at 10:12 pm

Those kale chips look great! Possible to make them without a dehydrator?

As for chores…I do the laundry. Hubby does the dishes/kitchen. Everything else we share. Works quite well for us! I definitely like the Pilot’s idea of donating his chores to your someday children – I think my hubby and I will do the same thing!

  17. Shanna @ Shanna Like Banana on July 20, 2010 at 10:13 pm

    Such a pretty kitchen!

My hubby does the poo related chores..like cleaning the bathrooms and scoopin’ the kitty litter

    I do everything else ๐Ÿ˜‰

  18. Emily @ Emilyeatsclean on July 20, 2010 at 10:14 pm

My hubby scoops the kitty’s litter box daily and does all the dusting and vacuumming. I do the grocery shopping, cooking, and all laundry. I mostly do the dishes, but he helps. We split everything else.

  19. Jenny on July 20, 2010 at 10:20 pm

Haha…..I think I prefer your chores over the pilot’s (I LOVE grocery shopping…it’s not a chore, it’s an outing)!
Oh random question, (and you can refrain from answering if it’s too personal/weird), but I know you and the Pilot met at starbucks, but did he make the first move or did you?

(My mom and i are having a debate about whether women are usually the instigators….hehe)

    • Fitnessista on July 20, 2010 at 10:25 pm

hahah neither of us, but it was definitely a woman! my boss from the dance studio saw my car at starbucks, came in to say hi, i told her i thought the pilot was hot, and she went over and told him he should talk to me ๐Ÿ˜‰ i was SO EMBARASSED haha

      • Jenny on July 20, 2010 at 10:56 pm

That’s so cute! Thank goodness she spoke up. Hmmmmm…..I guess the debate is at a draw since a 3rd party member introduced you ๐Ÿ˜‰

  20. holly @ couchpotatoathlete.wordpress.com on July 20, 2010 at 10:22 pm

I basically do all of the chores: cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. But J kills all the bugs and does all home maintenance things: changes light bulbs, fixed things, cleans the garage, etc.

You have a beautiful kitchen — I’ve always wanted one of those wrap around bar/countertops. Maybe in our next house ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on July 20, 2010 at 10:22 pm

  22. shelly@campinggirlchronicals on July 20, 2010 at 10:23 pm

I disinfect the kitchen and bathrooms, do the laundry and dust. My husband deals with garbage, vacuuming and outdoor chores (lawn and snow). We share the cooking and dishes.

I am on The Girl Who Played with Fire, my husband read all 3 books and we are both loving them. Happy reading!

  24. Kristina on July 20, 2010 at 11:09 pm

I do all indoor chores except garbage + recycling. Jason does all outdoor (including pool vacuuming / cleaning!).

He is also in charge of spider removal. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  25. Haley on July 20, 2010 at 11:20 pm

Gosh, the kitchen looks nice! The Boy & I divide the chores pretty evenly. He always does the backyard & I will do the bathroom & kitchen on “cleaning day.” I tend to vacuum & dust while he does the “handy” things. Otherwise, I usually cook (because I am the foodie) and he normally does the dishes. There are some days though when I give him a break =)

  26. Aleksis on July 20, 2010 at 11:22 pm

I only do the grocery shopping. Hallelujah.

  27. Heather (Heather's Dish) on July 20, 2010 at 11:29 pm

i basically do everything because i’m WAY too anal retentive and my hubby helps whenever i start slacking so i don’t freak out ๐Ÿ™‚

  30. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on July 21, 2010 at 12:27 am

Haha the Pilot is a generous man.

My parents split it up like this:
Mom: laundry, most cleaning around the house (we used to have a house keeper when we were young though), cooking
Dad: trash, dishes, taking care of the cars, handiwork, lawn

  31. Lynn @ My Sweet Season on July 21, 2010 at 12:35 am

THe pilot is just like my dad hahaha he totally handed over the chores to me and my brother!

  32. Christie on July 21, 2010 at 1:19 am

I have to admit that I’m pretty lazy around the house. My husband does the laundry, trash, and yard stuff. We split everything else but he probably does it more than me. I almost always do the bathrooms though.

  33. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on July 21, 2010 at 1:55 am

The smell of warm kale chips in the dehyd is enough to make me eat thru the black plastic of the box; seriously they are dangerously good, arent they!

    Chores:
    Me
I do everything from bill paying to floor scrubbing to errand running to dishes to 100% of food prep, grocery shopping, and taking care of Skylar 90% of the time. 15 days a month Scott’s not even here and the other 15 he’s working 16 hr days.

    Scott
    Makes money
Takes care of Skylar when he can, about 10% of the time
Does 0 cooking, cleaning, housework, etc. But I also don’t want him to.

We both understand our roles and we both wish it were more balanced, and one day it will be, but for now, this is life ๐Ÿ™‚ The flip side is that I am at home raising my child. The alternative would be to get a job and put her in day care and then neither scott nor I would see her. So he busts his ass so that at least I can stay home and raise her ๐Ÿ™‚

  34. mm on July 21, 2010 at 1:59 am

We split ours up as follows:
    – He dusts, cleans the toilets, takes out the trash, and does the yard work
    – I vacuum and clean the floors, clean the bathrooms (except for the toilets), and take care of the dogs
    – I do my laundry, he does his (I do anything that applies to both of us, like sheets and towels)
    – We take turns cooking and whoever doesn’t cook does the dishes

Except when he’s deployed or on a trip, then I do it all – and I know you know how that goes ๐Ÿ˜‰

  35. Luna on July 21, 2010 at 3:57 am

mmm…let’s see: my hubby is trying very hard to teach the empty bottles of soda/milk to walk to the trash. That’s it…what can you do, training (without success) is a really tiring job ๐Ÿ˜‰ (ok, I’ll admit it, sometimes I hate him for this)

  36. Jo on July 21, 2010 at 5:29 am

I live alone so the chores are all mine. If I arrived home to a sparkly kitchen I’d have to turn on my tail and run away screaming! Though I’m not sure I’ve heard of an intruder that would consider cleaning kitchens! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on July 21, 2010 at 8:52 am

      hahah!

  37. Laura on July 21, 2010 at 7:26 am

oh my gosh we have the exact same division of labor in our household — too funny! I am so grateful to have my fiance help out because some of my friends’ significant others don’t do anything and I can’t imagine not having his help ๐Ÿ™‚ it was a learning experience at first about what tasks I could delegate (I’m a bit of a perfectionist and did not like the way he cleaned the bathroom haha he’s not as thorough as I) but we’ve learned what works for us!

  38. Kelly on July 21, 2010 at 7:42 am

WooHoo for the Pilot!! A man that helps around the house is just downright sexy. At my house we split it by outside/inside. I take care of the inside stuff…cleaning, laundry, financial stuff. DH takes care of all things outside..yard work, car stuff, and the bad inside stuff like the cat box and the garbage. We split the cooking. I’m vegan and he isn’t. So I cook what I’m eating and he has to cook what he wants to add to it. I love your blog. I’m bummed that my job has blocked it and I can’t read it every day. ๐Ÿ™

  39. rachael on July 21, 2010 at 7:54 am

We split up the chores but not totally evenly, though he does work longer hours than I do. He always does the lawn and trash, and helps with the cleaning. I grocery shop and cook everyday Matt works, but he cooks on at least one of his days off. I fold and put away all the laundry which is the worst chore in my opinion, but there is a strict rule that Mommy watches The Real Housewives while folding clothes. ๐Ÿ™‚

  40. Lindsey @ Foodie on the Rocks on July 21, 2010 at 8:12 am

i don’t think there’s anything more relaxing than coming into an unexpectedly claean kitchen. totally motivates to go blow it up again with some culinary genius action! or some sort of culinary action ;).

  41. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on July 21, 2010 at 8:12 am

We split up chores, unfortunately when the boy is gone to sea (he is a sailor and gone 3/4 of the summer… about 1/2 the year!) I have to do everything! I cook, clean the main rooms of the house, he does laundry, sweeps and takes the litter box out and we both do dishes ๐Ÿ˜€

    xo

  42. Mo on July 21, 2010 at 8:25 am

So the pilot is that much more of a catch than I thought! He does a fantastic job – not the kind of job my fellow does, where I have to follow up after him (when he’s not looking), cause he doesn’t do such a wonderful job. He’s the kind of guy that would focus on cleaning up the garage when we have company coming . . . gotta love him!

  43. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on July 21, 2010 at 8:30 am

He did a great job! My husband does most of the stuff that requires heavy lifting or lots of standing/walking. I can’t do much because of my knee pain but I usually do the laundry and general tidying up. I most appreciate him doing the dishes.

  44. cjrymommy on July 21, 2010 at 8:38 am

My husband vaccumms too….I think it makes me love him even more! Can I ask where you buy your coconut water? I’ve looked at a couple places. I haven’t made it to Whole Foods yet but I’m guessing I’ll find it there.

    Thanks!

      yup- whole foods! ๐Ÿ™‚

  45. Autumn Tao on July 21, 2010 at 8:48 am

My husband and I do it almost exactly the same way… except I ususally do the dishes, and he dusts and feeds the pets (in addition to the Pilot’s list). I also tackle the things he never would notice, like cleaning the inside of the microwave, keeping closets/cupboards organized, things like that. And PS— I love to meal plan (and he usually comes along for the ride when we food shop) and I love to organize, major bonus. And he enjoys the big ticket items with maximum satisfaction, like vacumming.

  46. Emily B on July 21, 2010 at 8:49 am

I’m pretty lucky in that Big Guy is a neat freak. But he always washes the dishes after dinner – and he does the ironing as well as all the outside work. Oh – and he enjoys windexing the front and back windows. Weirdo.

  47. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on July 21, 2010 at 8:53 am

WOW the pilot is amazing!! Unfortunately there is no pilot in my life at the moment, so there is no chore splittage – yet!! I have a roommate though, and I usually take responsibility for the kitchen (since I’m in it all the time!) and she does the bathrooms.
Glad your blog is back in action!

  48. Paige (Running Around Normal) on July 21, 2010 at 9:24 am

The choresโ€ฆisnโ€™t that a topic for discussion! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Typically, I have the bathrooms, the laundry, and the floors (the floors were previously the hubskiโ€™s until he started working 60+ hrs/week)
He has the yard work (besides watering flowers) /handy man stuff, the garbage, and daily pick up โ€“ heโ€™s good at doing a quick sweep of the counters and stuff the counters collect daily. We alternate dishes. He knows I HATE coming home to or going to bed with dirty dishes in the sink, so whoever has 5 minutes will do a quick load/unload of the dishwasher.

  49. Kristy on July 21, 2010 at 9:26 am

Jealous Major! This is a HUGE (maybe the largest) issue in our relationship. He does not have any “assigned” chores. He likes the “tell me what you need done” approach so I constantly feel like I’m nagging = I end up doing 90% of the adult duties. ๐Ÿ™ Might just haveโ€™ta email him a link to your post.

    • Fitnessista on July 21, 2010 at 9:40 am

hahah that’s a good idea. or just have a chat w him and decide how you guys want to split things up! it will make things easier and you won’t have to feel like you’re nagging him

  50. RhodeyGirl on July 21, 2010 at 10:51 am

I do pretty much everything, but he helps when he can.

I wonder who gets stuck doing my nemesis- the bathrooms? In my house I do them, but I seriously want a cleaning company to come scrub our showers for me.
