Smoothie Deception

Hi guys! How’s your day been??

Things are bueno over here, especially since I started my day with a cookie 😉

cookie

A superfood bfast cookie with:

-1/2 C oats

-1/2 scoop Sun Warrior

-maca

-Goji berries and cacao nibs

-1 T sprouted raw almond butter

-almond milk

Rumor has it that some of the pilots in our squadron have been enjoying bfast cookies lately, too! Love it. My Pilot isn’t a huge fan of the breakfast cookies – he has a texture thing- but said he will eat a bfast cookie under one circumstance (it’s an inspiration board thing and I don’t want to jinx it by typing it out) and I’m anxiously awaiting that day 🙂

Snack was some raw cacao cereal with fresh almond milk:

cereal

and then I meandered up to the yoga room for a 45-minute Detox Challenge flow a la YogaDownload.com

buddha

The yoga practice was amazing, but the best part was coming out of savansana to a thousand Bella kisses 🙂

bella

I wore a new shirt today,

shirt

(hoping to have these in my OpenSky store soon! Lurve)

and answered so many questions about raw food at the car wash and the grocery store. It was fun- I love talking to perfect strangers about food/nutrition/whatever 🙂

This afternoon, I met my friend Michele for a smoothie at Main Squeeze.

IMG00308-20100819-1451

A BROWN smoothie!

Looks can be deceiving because it was delicious. Peach, mango, fresh apple juice, spinach, strawberry and Sun Warrior + spirulina from my purse 😉

I’m off to practice my Zumba dances, train some clients and teach bootcamp! If any of ya’ll tried this morning’s bootcamp workout, please let me know how it went!

xoxo,

Gina

Something to talk about: Are you superstitious?? I definitely am. Sometimes the Pilot will say something and I’ll get riled up because I think he jinxed us and he just laughs at me 😉 Also, any reader’s request ideas for tomorrow? Please leave them in the comments section <3

I am so superstitious with stuff like that too! I hate saying things out loud because I always think I jinxed myself.

  2. Jasmine @ Eat Move Write on August 19, 2010 at 4:46 pm

Well, hubby and I both believe in the power of “energy.” We believe negative energy (thoughts, emotions, words) can literally “infect” a situation, so we are careful to be very positive in the energy we put out. “Like attracts like,” or so it goes.

I’m not sure that’s superstitious, but whatever it is, that’s what I am. 🙂

    Great question. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2010 at 4:51 pm

i’m totally like that too! did you ever read “the secret”?

      • Kate on August 19, 2010 at 9:31 pm

I’m like that too! You get back what you put into the world.

The Secret was great and Rhonda Byrne has a new book. The Power. I haven’t read it yet, but I bet is will be good.

        • Fitnessista on August 20, 2010 at 8:09 am

oooh i’ll be on the lookout for it!

I’m not THAT superstitious but I do get a little freaked out when I see a black cat!

  4. Teri [a foodie stays fit] on August 19, 2010 at 4:49 pm

    I’m totally superstitious. 🙂

How about a post on your favorite grains? I need to branch out to things besides quinoa and brown rice!

  5. Carrie on August 19, 2010 at 4:51 pm

I’m not superstitious, too stressful! That and my husband used to have a black cat. Had to get over that pretty fast.

  6. erin m.@well-in-la on August 19, 2010 at 4:55 pm

Loving that you have the Almond Breeze challenge in your side bar! More giving back is always awesome and in style 🙂 Wising I had a raw cacoa cereal and almond milk snack as pictured right now.

  7. Jackie (Army Wife) on August 19, 2010 at 4:58 pm

I believe in what I heard Oprah saying about putting your wants out into the world. I think that’s like the inspiration board. I wanted sooo badly to move to Colorado for our next duty station and they only gave us two options which were neither. So I kept thinking about it and putting it out into the world and it took a year but we came down on ‘surprise’ orders to go there! So now I always say what I want outloud and hope for the best.

    • Kimberly on August 19, 2010 at 10:34 pm

      I hope you enjoy Colorado!

My husband and I are in Boulder we have been here 9 years and love it. My dad was career Navy and we moved a lot. Colorado is the only place that has felt like home to me. My brother is Army and he was stationed at Ft Carson for 3 years. He loves Colorado too and plans to move back after he retires from the Army. (he is stationed in Germany now)

      Good luck!

  8. Heather on August 19, 2010 at 4:58 pm

The brown smoothie actually looks GOOD! 🙂
Nope, not superstitious. To me superstition is not believing or trusting God. I love Him too much to be superstitious 🙂

  9. sally on August 19, 2010 at 4:59 pm

This is so crazy (please don’t laugh at me) but I have greeted (sometimes silently, but I do it) every plane I have every flown from a little Cessna to a l trainer to the planes I am on now for my job. Otherwise no I am not superstitious, I do not greet cars. Hahaha, I sound like such a crazyperson!

  10. Sana on August 19, 2010 at 5:00 pm

I am not. But I am. I hate it when I am on a trip and someone says “everything is going so well” you KNOW something bad is going to happen. GRRR!

  11. sally on August 19, 2010 at 5:00 pm

Sorry for the typos, darn keyboards!

  12. Jessica@tastyandtrim on August 19, 2010 at 5:04 pm

I do get superstitious sometimes! Whenever I say “luckily that has never happened to me” I always have to knock on wood. And I won’t touch a penny on the ground that isn’t heads up!

  13. Little Bookworm on August 19, 2010 at 5:09 pm

I had a breakfast cookie for breakfast too! 🙂 Love the photo of Bella – she looks cute.

  14. Jess on August 19, 2010 at 5:09 pm

I definitely try to be mindful about what I say and how I say it—the universe hears everything…

  15. Naomi(onefitfoodie) on August 19, 2010 at 5:12 pm

im not superstitious, but I do believe in certain things like “everthinghappens for a reason” and corny stuff like that!

I love that little container of almond milk and cacao cereal! so stinkin’ cute! 🙂

    Bella is so adorable!

  16. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on August 19, 2010 at 5:20 pm

I’m not superstitious at all. I have a friend who is so I make a point to walk under ladders around her. 🙂

  17. Brianne on August 19, 2010 at 5:22 pm

I’ve been a long time reader and have enjoyed your blog, but lately it feelslike its been lacking content and gaining more ads. When you view your page now, the blogging part of it ( what I did/ate today) is a narrow section in the middle and then the sides are all ads. Its not that I’m hating, it seems to me your blog is changing.

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2010 at 7:39 pm

thanks for being honest about the ads. i’m sorry you feel like my blog is lacking content lately- that makes me feel bad because i’ve worked hard this week on doing quality posts (the anniversary post, the workout that took me an hour to type up and find links to the exercises, etc). the content portion is a little narrow right now, but i emailed my web guy to see if there’s any way we can widen it. i hope that helps a little…

      • Laura J. on August 20, 2010 at 12:29 am

I’m not seeing any of these ads people are talking about…Are the supposed to be on the left hand sidebar? All that shows up for me is a long white box. Honestly tho, for the amount of time and quality content you put on here (amazing workouts, yummy recipes, witty posts) I don’t mind a few ads on the sidebar. No one’s forcing anyone to click anything. Don’t like them..then just ignore them. 🙂

  18. Ashley on August 19, 2010 at 5:37 pm

I’m totally superstitious. I lift my feet when I cross railroad tracks. I do other crazy things like walking a certain way b/c something good happened that day. Oh man…writing this makes me think I’m really crazy!

  19. Janna ~ Just Flourishing on August 19, 2010 at 5:40 pm

K I have a question about spirulina. I bought some and…is it supposed to smell really bad? Because mine does! I have it hidden away from all my other food!! Does it taste terrible as well?

  20. Laura on August 19, 2010 at 5:41 pm

I guess to a degree I am. I use to cross my fingers (both hands) when my hubby would go up for a free throw back when he played basketball in high school. 🙂 I also knock on wood.

I’m also a big believer in positive energy. I have a co-worker that just always seems to have everything bad happen to her. But she also has a very negative point of view and I have to imagine its some how linked. You know?

  21. melissa on August 19, 2010 at 5:42 pm

i am so superstitious. if i drop a spoon i make my husband pick it up because my grandma told me it means “disappointment” a knife is a sharp man will arrive on your doorstep soon and a fork is “swift news” pretty ridiculous huh? he totally mocks me for the spoon fetching ;p

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2010 at 7:38 pm

wow i’ve never heard that before!

  22. Allie (Live Laugh Eat) on August 19, 2010 at 5:46 pm

No way about the bfast cookie thing! I bet he scarfs down those amazing macaroons though 🙂

  23. Allesandra on August 19, 2010 at 6:03 pm

Gina, here’s a late happy anniv, how exciting! 🙂
I love love LOVE your blog, but hate all the food buzz ads now, so distracting… I feel like i’m on like a cheap website now! I loved the homey vibe before

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2010 at 7:38 pm

      thank you!
i’m sorry you hate the ads :/ i emailed my web guy to see if he can widen the content portion so the ads aren’t so distracting or if we can put them in a different place. the blog is a job, so i make money from ads, but if they turn you guys off i’ll see if there’s something else i can do.

      • Allesandra on August 20, 2010 at 9:31 am

Thank you so much for taking my input the right way, I didn’t want you thinking I was bitching, hahah.. there’s just so few food blogs I still read because they aren’t plug this-review this-giveaway that-I got paid to tell you this, and yours is one of them!!

        • Fitnessista on August 20, 2010 at 10:15 am

          thank you!

  24. Mary (What's Cookin' with Mary) on August 19, 2010 at 6:05 pm

I never used to be superstitious, but my husband always has been. A few too many times now I have said something and he’d look at me wide eyed shaking his head and say ‘greaaaaaaaat, now you jinxed us!’ and things went out of whack. So now… I don’t say thing’s like ‘nothing can stop us now’… ever. lol

Sorry pilot, but I take the fitnessista’s side on this one ;P

  25. Anna on August 19, 2010 at 6:07 pm

Maybe a post on superfoods? I feel like there can be a lot of “buzz” about them..it would be interesting/helpful to hear your opinion on them 😀

  26. Liz on August 19, 2010 at 6:10 pm

Like many others, I think that things can be jinxed, and in many instances, I have to knock on wood. I also do not “split” when I walking with someone else– meaning that if I’m walking with a friend down the street, and there’s a fire hydrant, I will walk on the same side as my friend. I also believe in prayer and the power of positive thinking.

  27. Madison on August 19, 2010 at 6:11 pm

Do you ever run into a juice bar that will not use the protein powder that you bring? If so, what do you do? I am lactose intolerant so I can’t really have most standard whey based protein powder and recently, thanks to you, have Sun Warrior in my life but some places won’t use it when I bring it with me in a baggie. So for the most part, I make my own at home but want to know what I can say to them to get them to consider using the protein I bring with me.

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2010 at 7:36 pm

i’ve never had a prob with it before, but i’m sure if you explain your lactose intolerance they’d be willing to help you out!

      • Jaclyn on August 19, 2010 at 11:52 pm

I’ve had this problem at juice bars before, they won’t add something you bring in cause they dan’t know what it is *lol* but I’ll just add it myself, after… you just have to find one that’s not too chalky and stirs in easily.

  28. holly @ couchpotatoathlete on August 19, 2010 at 6:17 pm

I love the bfast cookies and my husband does too! We ate those as pre run fuel when we trained for our marathon. I think they are awesome!

I am not superstitious, but I do believe in “jinxing”, if that counts.

I saw this after each of your posts, but your pics look so good with your new camera (not that they looked bad before, but you know what I mean). It makes me want to get a new camera!

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2010 at 7:36 pm

thank you! <3 that means a lot since i'm still camera clueless, hahah. i've got a lot of studying to do!

  29. Astrid on August 19, 2010 at 6:18 pm

Here is a request. What would be your perfect day? What would you eat (it could be anything), what would you do, where would you go, and who would you be with?

  30. Jaclyn on August 19, 2010 at 6:28 pm

Mmmm I really want to start drinking more smoothies, I think they are probably a great way to get in extra nutrition and in the summer, so refreshing! I love that you keep spirulana and pro powder in your purse 😉

Hmmm the pilot will only eat one if… I think I know 😉

  31. Kristina @ spabettie on August 19, 2010 at 6:28 pm

I am also very superstitious… Jason likes to make fun 🙂

I have a readers request – or a general recipe request? I am very much enjoying Pure Market Express AND your macaroons… and in the spirit of the shirt you wore today and your schooling, I would love to see more raw recipes.

I know you don’t do a lot anymore… but if you ever wanna – I love them!

    🙂 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2010 at 7:35 pm

i’m so glad you like them!! <3

  32. Julie @ Pickley Pear on August 19, 2010 at 6:35 pm

I need to start making bfast cookies again – they are filling and so tasty…a perfect on-the-go breakfast before work!

  33. alison on August 19, 2010 at 6:44 pm

Considering the fact that my husband and I got married on a friday the 13th, I don’t think I’m very superstitious. However, I’m seriously neurotic and, for instance, if I wore a certain outfit on a day when something bad happened, it takes me a LONG time to wear that outfit again. As if my clothes had anything to do with it.

  34. Allison on August 19, 2010 at 6:44 pm

i have yet to try a bfast cookie, one day i swear i will.

I wouldn’t say i am really superstitious, maybe sometimes, like when i knock on wood, but sometimes i just think I have OCD ha

  35. Amanda @ Cakes and Ale on August 19, 2010 at 6:48 pm

Nope – not superstitious. I’m already enough of a control freak as it is… I feel like letting myself be worried about whether I’m jinxing myself or not would just start to take over my life!

  36. Heather (Heather's Dish) on August 19, 2010 at 6:50 pm

i can be really superstitious about random stuff, but it’s usually all geared towards competition and not wanting to lose 🙂

  37. Emma on August 19, 2010 at 6:56 pm

    Gina sweetie!
I tried your workout and thought it was fab! I particularly enjoyed doing the high skips around the gym 🙂
I’m superstitious…I have a dance background and whenever I danced on stage I HAD to wear my lucky Betty Boop thong/G-string! The one time I didn’t wear it I ended up wearing pink ballet tights and pointe shoes for a “Saturday Night Fever” modern jazz number….don’t ask!! 🙂
    Much love xoxo

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2010 at 7:34 pm

i’m so glad you liked the workout!
that story is hilarious. sorry it happened though! haha

  38. Hanna on August 19, 2010 at 6:59 pm

reader’s request: Perhaps some ideas on how to stay healthy and fit when you are injured! I bet everyone has been through annoying injuries…
I just hurt my foot and won’t be able to do my normal exercise and I am already getting a little worried about my sanity : )

I worry about jinxing things also : ) Which basically just encourages my boyfriend to constantly say things aloud that I would prefer he didn’t…

  39. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on August 19, 2010 at 7:05 pm

Hahaha I am occasionally superstitious! I definitely try not to jinx things any more.

  40. Brianne on August 19, 2010 at 7:25 pm

Been a long time reader and I feel like your blog has become more advertisements recently and is lacking content. When one open’s your page, your post is in this middle narrow section and all the ads are popping up at you, distracting a bit. I’m not trying to hate on you, its just that your blog is not what it used to be.

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2010 at 7:33 pm

thanks for being honest about the ads. i’m sorry you feel like my blog is lacking content lately- that makes me feel bad because i’ve worked hard this week on doing quality posts (the anniversary post, the workout that took me an hour to type up and find links to the exercises, etc). the content portion is a little narrow right now, but i emailed my web guy to see if there’s any way we can widen it. i hope that helps a little.

      • kaila on August 19, 2010 at 8:16 pm

I think your posts have been great lately just so you know! i can see the effort you have put into them. and being a blogger myself with the same adds as you i know that they can be alittle annoying but with a great blog like yours i dont think they distract (atleast for me) from your fun posts!

  41. Ellen@FirednFabulous on August 19, 2010 at 7:56 pm

I’m not even a pooch lover, but seriously, Bella always makes my day! She’s too friggin’ cute! And nope…I’m not superstitious. My Greek relatives are though…there are so many “rules” to follow when I visit them!

Reader Request: Any new raw-licious recipes up your sleeve?!?! Or, a post about the benefits of eating a raw diet. I eat a really clean vegetarian diet and a lot of raw food, but could always use a refresher about the benefits 🙂

P.S. I love, love, love your blog and think the content is great. I’m always learning something new!! B-fast cookie anyone?

  45. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on August 19, 2010 at 8:35 pm

I was thinking of what to have for breakfast tomorrow, and now that I’ve read this post, a breakfast cookie it is!! Though I might so the “cereal” thing you showed the other day 🙂

I’m not very superstitious, but I always say “knock on wood” and try not to talk about future events for fear of jinxing myself. I think life is a series of coincidences, but it’s funny how things always happen as soon as you talk about them!

  46. Dee on August 19, 2010 at 8:46 pm

For sure, I am so superstitious!! Here’s on example as to the extent … I was induced on Thursday, 9/12 and the next day was Friday the 13th, I refused to have my child on Friday the 13th so the OB broke my water bag at 9:30pm and I had my beautiful daughter shortly after

Just wanted to say that I have loved your posts lately. I can tell you put your heart into them and the ads don’t bother me one bit. I want you to make some moolah! I also have a reader request: so many healthy living blogs I read focus on people maintaining their weight/healthy lifestyle, but I’m just getting started. I would love to see a post on tips/strategies for those of us who are just getting started. Thanks : )
