Speed Eaters Anonymous
Hey friends! How was your day?
Mine was loooooonnnggg (the 5pm weights shift is a doozy) but very bueno ๐ I tested out the first weekโs workout for Summer Shape Up 2011 on my lunch break! Very serious biznazzโฆ
[Side note: that headband was hurting my brain ALL day, but once you commit to a headband, you canโt take it off without your hair looking funny.]
The best part about the day?
This was waiting for me to get home:
Indian!!!
The Pilot got takeout on his way home and it was glorious.
Dal Makhani (lentils)
+ socca!
Itโs been wayyyyy too long since Iโve had socca. I kind of got burnt out on it during the detox since I was eating it so often, but I was ready to bring it back in place of naan tonight ๐
I cooked up the socca in some ghee
(few things in the world smell as awesome as melting butter)
and ended up sharing half of it with Bella. She LOVED it! I knew sheโd go crazy for socca since sheโs garbanzo obsessed ๐
As delicious as my meal was, I ate the entire thing in 9 minutes! I am a notorious speed eater. Itโs probably because I am always 100% in some kind of hurry, so I stuff my face as quickly as possible, usually while doing 2 or 3 other things and continue the day. It bums me out because I really love food, and at the end of the meal, I realize that I didnโt savor or enjoy it as much as I could have. I think to myself โwow, that was really good. And itโs over already.โ On dates with the Pilot, Iโm pretty good about slowing down, but on an everyday basis, itโs something Iโm going to be more mindful of.
Anyone other speed eaters out there?
Well weโre off to my little broโs baseball game ๐ Itโs a beautiful night.
Enjoy your evening and Iโll see ya tomorrow with a readerโs request!
xoxo
Gina
Something to do:
If you make a minimum $10 donation to Caitlinโs neighborโs cause, please indicate it in your comment below (you can say โI donatedโ or whatever youโd like) and Iโll be picking someone from the comments on Friday morning (and Caitlin will match it up from the donations for me) to send some macaroons and a Whole Foods goodie package to ๐
I’m a speed eater! I always go out to eat with friends and I’ll scarf down my meal before they’re even close to done haha! they always look at me like I’m crazy. How I’m capable of eating and actually having a conversation at the same time astonishes me.
I donated!
Ugh I too am a notorious speed eater! As of late though, I’ve been getting better. One of goals for this year was to have (at least) one mindful meal a day. No tv, nothing to read, and really focus on each bite. It’s amazing how much slower I eat that meal than the others. Now if only I could do the same thing when I eat some vegan chocolate chip cookies…. ๐
New here =D
I also speed eat, always have, half the time I have no idea what I have even eaten! watch out if anyone drops sauce on their arms!!
welcome to the little blog ๐
hahah
I donated!
I’m def a speed eater as well! I often read blog and *woops* where did my meal go ๐
When working at shoots, whe often don’t have the time to eat lunch so I just have to much in between takes.. that sometimes really sucks.. I guess they run with the “models don’t eat motto” grrr
Hey Gina, there is a link to send a military care package to anyone US or abroad that I think some of your readers/friends may be interested in.
This is the link and I hope it goes through: http://www.scion.com/militarycarepackage/
I know care packages can be so uplifting and this is a free service, so hopefully some men and women can get little gifts in the mail ๐
I’m a teacher so I’m definitely a speed eater…I usually eat walking somewhere or just to the room where I eat lunch and my food is halfway gone by then!
I donated to Caitlins friend. May God bless her.
I get my speed-eating habits from my dad. He can clean a dinner plate before the rest of us even sit down to eat, and I (unfortunately) picked up the habit when I was little. Like you, I try to savor my meals when out to eat with my boyfriend or friends, but on a daily basis, I find myself inhaling my food. I’m trying to be more mindful of this and ENJOY what I’m eating because when I enjoy my food, I feel far more satisfied!
Ugh, I am such a speed-eater and I consciously try to slow down but it never works! Glad to hear I’m not the only one though!
I’m better than I used to be, but I’m a total speed eater!
After years of having only 15 mins for lunch break as a teacher, having to eat between classes, and now having to eat in the 5 mins of down time I have with kids…yea I’m a speed eater. I hate it too!
I donated as soon as I read Caitlin’s post. It’s so nice to see the blog community making such a huge contribution!
Speed eating is something I’m a pro at! But like you, I’m trying to be more mindful because I really want to be able to slow down and really enjoy the taste of each bite. I’m notorious for sitting down and eating meals while reading or doing some other form of multitasking, but lately I’ve been really enjoying eating my dinners with my roommates. When there’s people to talk to, it’s rude to talk with your mouth full so that tends to slow me down a bit!! ๐
I donated! He attitude is insiring! I bet she’ll kick cancer’s a**!
I am SUCH a speed eater and most of the time, while I’m doing it, I don’t even notice, so I can’t slow down!
I’m a number one speed eater ๐ I also love to cook and eat, but it’s so sad that the food disappears instantly ๐ Maybe that’s because I usually sit down to eat when I’m really hungry and then I want to put something in my stomach fast ๐
I donated to Catlin’s neighborhood. As soon as I read the story, it reminded me of me. I lost my mother to breast cancer when I was 6y/o and my dad to lung cancer when I was 8. Cancer just sucks, no way around it. I’m so happy to see the blog world come together for her. Tonya’s strength in God is truly inspiring, and I’m praying for those boys every single day.
I donated! Wishing the best for Tonya and her family. Thanks for sharing about your speed-eating problemo! I am in the same boat sometimes! Your post is a great reminder to slooowwww down!
I would say I’m the opposite of a speed-eater, actually… I usually take at least half an hour to eat my meals, and often up to an hour! I can’t stand snarfing food. My “lunches” at school often last from second period to fourth because I just nibble away quietly while taking notes! And I get up almost an hour earlier than necessary just so I can leisurely enjoy my breakfast, haha. I want to savor EVERYTHING!
caitlin did such an amazing job sharing tonya’s story. it completely breaks my heart for that family. i donated $10 and have been meaning to donate more because of the stories i read in the comments. people are amazing and so selfless sometimes
I am SUCH a speed eater, too it’s terrible. But it’s hard when I’m working a busy kitchen job, especially! Not much time to eat and when there is time, I want to EAT! lol
I donated to the cause, as well. So amazing that she’s doing this for such a deserving woman!
xo
Speed-eater here!! I’m almost always rushing too, but when I’m not in such a rush, I’m trying to be more conscious and slow down, but it’s a hard habit to break!
I’m the first one done with my meal at any table, except for my parents’. I guess I get it from them ๐
Our labrador was the same way ๐
My husband’s always telling me to chew my food.
I savor my desserts though ๐
I donated to Caitlin’s friend. I hope she is able to raise a good amount of money for this cause.
I dontated to Caitlin’s cause.
I am the opposite of a speed eater! My last bite of hot food is often cold (either at home or a restaurant). To me, 20 minutes feels like a rushed meal. If I’m eating dinner solo and have a magazine or good book, it’s easily a dinner hour!
i donated! woohoo
I was eating my breakfast while reading your post. I just slooooowed down. I do eat fast all the time and should learn to enjoy my food more. It’s better for digestion as well.
Totally hear ya on the headband thing…once you commit, you’re stuck with the lovely headband hair dent. And usually, headbands make me bonkers too!
I used to think I was a speedy eater, until I started eating more with my husband, he blows me right out of the water. I think he could probably finish two meals in the same time as my one. ๐
Yep, I donated as well – my heart goes out to her and her family. Whenever we get into a bad mood, it really puts perspective on things to find out about someone going thru things you could never imagine. Thanks for bringing her plight to our attention. Have a wonderful day. Mo
Sending many, many possitive thoughts Toyna’s way – I donated.
Totally a speed eater. I eat my lunch in less than 10 minutes every single day. I even try to slow down sometimes and it still doesn’t work. haha
great to hear that summer shape up is coming soon! i donated to the family… such an incredible story!
I have always been a speed eater and my husband eats SO slow. He has balanced me out some, so now when I am visiting my family I am amazed at how fast they eat.
HUGE speed eater here. Sometimes I remember to try and slow myself down other times I’m done eating before I can even remember to try!
I donated – definitely a worthy cause!
I’m a speed eater too, unfortunately. It all started almost three years ago when I had a baby and just had to eat quick! Especially in restaurants, because she has a time-limit, haha!
I am learning to slow down and enjoy my food again though, now that she is getting older.
I donated. I think it is awesome so many bloggers has joined in this effort.
I donated. Caitlin wrote a very moving post that has been on my mind since I read it three days ago. I wish Tonya and her family all the health, hope, and strength!
OOo, I think maybe this is only my first or second comment on your blog! hiii! I only found it a while ago and I’ve been devouring it ever since.
Anyway – my family are real, real speedeaters. Actually my Brother is the slowest and he’s even faster than most people. I didn’t realise until the first time I went out for dinner with friends and I was finished when some people had barely gotten halfway through!
I can’t slow down though! I don’t do things slow (especially walk slow)!
hiiiii ๐
and i’m the same way, a speed walker too ๐
Donated to Tonya’s cause, praying for the best!
i’ve had garbanzo bean flour in my fridge for months now and still have not tried socca. ahhhh, maybe i’ll remember to do it tonight!!
and i used to be a major speed eater too. lately i’ve been really trying to be conscious about putting my fork/spoon down between bites and taking a drink of water to slow down!
I try very hard to not “speed eat.” When I eat too fast to savor the foodies, I always feel like I got jipped in the meal department, then I’ll have a tendency to eat again to make up for it. :/
Not only did we do Indian Food Wednesday last night, I had Dal Makhani (and I have leftovers for lunch today). Yum!
indian food twins! ๐
I donated to Tonya and her family. Praying for them all ๐
I donated to Tonya–wishing her and her family all the best.
Lunch speed eating is the WORST for me. The morning goes so slow waiting for noon to hit so I can eat my lunch, and then I’m usually finished by like, 12:09. It’s very disappointing because I still have all that time left in my lunch break where I just sit there and wish I had more food lol. Guess I should be better about that too ๐ Also, I donated!
I donated to Tonya’s cause as well, as soon as I read Caitlin’s post. I’ve never been so compelled to donate to a stranger, and I’m so glad that so many other bloggers did the same. She has such an inspirational attitude!
Oh man, I am like the SLOWEST eater ever. You’d have time for a nap if it was you and me at the table. A long one, too! :p When I’m at the office and eating breakfast while doing other stuff, it takes me like an hour to finish it. No joke. I don’t mind, though–I’d rather feel like it’s eating time than working time, even if I am multitasking. ๐
And PS I hear you so hard on the headband. It requires commitment. Or a shower.
hahah! i didn’t know you were a slow eater ๐
so right about the shower- that would have been perfect yesterday. my brain was killin me
