The Goods

Hi everyone! Happy almost-Friday! Hope you’re having a glorious morning 🙂

Who celebrated Indian Food Wednesday?

I did, as my morning snack 🙂

When I stopped at Whole Foods for a lovely green juice:

juice

(green apple, lemon, parsley and spinach.. she was a little heavy-handed with the lemon, but it didn’t stop me from chugging it after yoga)

I just “happened” to meander past the hot bar and saw my favorite soup: dal saag!

dal saag

It has lentils, spinach and is supah spicy. I love it 🙂 Kind of a random mid-morning snack, but it’s what I was feeling and it was SO delicious;)

Some other eats of late:

souther

My favorite Amy’s meal!

southern

A thousand more dark chocolate Dove eggs – they’re just so good but I think I *may* finally be egged out.

Panera dinner:

panera

1/2 Mediterranean salmon salad with no cheese and 1/2 veggie sandwich on wheat with no cheese. I ended up eating the wheat baguette and just munched the veggies out of the sandwich portion.. I like my bread but didn’t see a reason to have 3 servings of the stuff with dinner. The baguette won the bread battle because it was wheatier, seedier and crustier 😉

Per some requests…

The clothes I’ve purchased over the past couple of days:

goods

The pink shirt and 2 pairs of heels are from Forever 21 and the blue, black, white shirt, shorts and black skirt are all from Express. I also grabbed some beauty products, gifts and accessories, but didn’t feel like un-bagging them to snap pics 😉

I’m off to Israel’s spin class (yessssssss) and then going to do some weights. After that, it’s time to park my booty at Beefcake and Noble (aka Barnes and Noble) and get some work done and get back to your lovely emails 😀

Have a wonderful day <3

Gina

When you hit up the mall, what’s the first store you make a beeline for?? I always hit up Express, Forever 21, Victoria’s Secret, Williams-Sonoma and Crate and Barrel 🙂

Also, would ya’ll be interested in another Summer Shape Up? If so, I was thinking of launching it in late May.

That pink shirt from Forever 21 is so cute! I always start in Nordstrom and go from there, if I ever get out of there..lol! I love Express, Banana, White House, and Aldo for my show obsession!

  3. Suzanne on April 8, 2010 at 7:48 am

As a former English major, I’m such a book nerd. I’m really picky about my clothes, so I can peruse several clothing stores and never buy anything, but I always seem to break the bank and Barnes N’ Noble! I also love Lucy. Their yoga pants and tanks are adorable!

I’d love if you did a Summer Shape Up again this year. You had some really great advice last year!

  4. Katherine on April 8, 2010 at 7:49 am

    Katherine

PS: shape up would be great
PPS: will you be my personal shopper? thanks

Those shorts with the buttons are so cute! Like little sailor shorts 🙂

I LURVE that Amy’s frozen dinner…actually, I love almost ALL of the frozen dinners they make 😉

  6. Sarah @ THE FOODIE DIARIES on April 8, 2010 at 7:53 am

looooove that white shirt! i am SO excited to wear white again and not look ghastly.

i always hit up forevs first. it requires energy–mine any way bc it’s super crowded/messy/overwhelming–so i like to come full force 🙂 happy thurs, chica!

  7. Emily on April 8, 2010 at 7:57 am

Love the blue top! Great color.
I would defitely be interested. I got sick recently and missed on a whole bunch of exercise, so a shape up would fit in very nicely indeed 🙂

  8. Katie @ Health for the Whole Self on April 8, 2010 at 8:01 am

That pink shirt is adorable! I immediately head for Forever 21 and H & M if I’m not looking for anything in particular. Otherwise I’m a big fan of J. Crew and Banana Republic.

  9. Kate on April 8, 2010 at 8:12 am

Feeling a little envious of all the shopping you’re doing! I definitely empathise with the pain you feel being far away from such great shopping in Valdosta…I’m in (and from) New Zealand and lived in the states for a bit, so I’m definitely feeling the pain reading this post. enjoy your new finds!

the more i read your blog, the more i love it! thanks a bunch for writing!

Express is my go-to store every time. I actually think I have that white shirt in your picture.. ruffles on the neck? 19.99 in the clearance section? 🙂

    • gina (fitnessista) on April 8, 2010 at 8:17 am

I wish- it was 34.50 :/ super cute though!

  12. Julie @ Wearing Mascara on April 8, 2010 at 8:16 am

I love your clothes and that makes me want (need) to go shopping soon. I am a huge Express person too – I feel like they make clothes for the real “woman” (with curves) the best. However, have you been to a Limited recently? I loooove The Limited and never really have before bc of the prices. But now, I think they’ve really upped their game. Check out their sale rack the next time you’re in! I prefer them over Express now 🙂 Have a great day!

  13. Alexa Meany on April 8, 2010 at 8:20 am

those are the exact stores i hit up as well!! 🙂 I LOVE forever 21.. thankgoodness i don’t have one in my area.. i usually mail order it or wait until i’ll be going to a mall with it !!

And i’ve never seen that Amy’s meal! I gotta check it out! 🙂

  14. Lauren on April 8, 2010 at 8:25 am

Kind of a random question. I think it’s been about 2 months now since I more or less gave up meat, all processed food and refined sugar. I run pretty regularly and was attending a Sculpt class 2 days a week, and I have tried my best to focus on making fresh veggies about 85% of my diet. But I stepped on the scale the other day (which I haven’t done in forever) because I have been feeling bloated pretty much since I started eating this way and was feeling particularly heavy. I have gained almost 5 lbs!!!

I’m not totally freaking out because I know I am eating healthy and getting exercise. I realized that I was probably running too much and needed to incorporatemore strength training and interval training. Which I started this past Monday. But I still feeling like the pudge and the bloat are not going away. Any advice???

Is it possible I’m eating too many veggies? A typical day for me is a green monster for breakfast (with protein powder), a salad or veggie wrap (sprouted) for lunch, some sort of fruit as a snack (usually an apple), a cup of veggies (usually broccoli) or a handful of almonds for a second snack and then dinner which lately has been roasted or grilled veggies, mushroom burgers and occassionally whole wheat pasta with veggies of course. I’m a little stumped.

    Sorry for the long comment!

    • Fitnessista on April 8, 2010 at 10:14 am

      hey girl,
it could be a lot of things. remember that muscle weighs more than fat! i got so discouraged when i first started weight training because i gained weight, even though my clothes still fit. before long, my old clothes were baggy on me and i actually weighed MORE. check your body fat % and monitor that– it’s a much more important #!
the veggie thing can definitely make you bloated. on days when i don’t drink enough water, i have a permanent veggie food baby. make sure to drink lots of water!

      • Lauren on April 8, 2010 at 11:57 am

Thanks! I drink unbelievable amounts of water 🙁 I’m talking over a gallon a day haha! Which I’ve done for years now. I do need to check the body fat. My clothes fit ok, I’m breaking out the summer stuff so I’m having a hard time remembering exactly how they fit the last time I wore them. Grr! Do you use a scale made to check body fat or another method?

        • Fitnessista on April 8, 2010 at 12:01 pm

calipers- they can check it at your gym for you!

  15. Nicole @ Making Good Choices on April 8, 2010 at 8:29 am

I always start in bloomingdales and go to nordstrom and jcrew. I say def yes to summer shape up!

  16. kristi (sweet cheeks) on April 8, 2010 at 8:36 am

Definite YES on the summer shape up!!!

Have a great day Gina! xoxo

  17. Kate on April 8, 2010 at 8:43 am

    Summer Shape Up Please!
I love the shape up’s, I don’t belong to a gym anymore so it helps me to have a plan that I can do on my own. Thanks so much for taking the time out of your day to make them up 🙂

  18. Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather on April 8, 2010 at 8:45 am

Cute tops girl! Especially the pink one. I love crusty bread too, it would be the winner for sure.

  19. Sarah on April 8, 2010 at 8:45 am

I would love it if you did another summer shape up! I’m running a half marathon on April 24th so after that, I’m ready to get focused on strength training again 😉

  20. Amanda on April 8, 2010 at 8:50 am

YES! Summer shape up would be awesome! I wasn’t ‘around’ last year but I use your shape up from last year and even started my own points system based on the one you did, it’s great! I love the circuit workouts the best, I have my cardio favorites but I really needed to improve my strength workouts and do them more frequently. I made print outs of your circuit workouts with pictures and I bring them to the gym with me, I love it! My boyfriend even does them with me and they kick his butt too! Thanks so much for posting them!

  21. Whitney @ Whitinspired on April 8, 2010 at 8:52 am

Yes Yes! Summer shape up! I could use some extra motivation 🙂 I always go to Ann Taylor Loft. I <3 that store.

  22. Cassie @ A Very Busy Mind on April 8, 2010 at 8:53 am

Oh Panera does go WAY overboard with the bread.

Forever 21 is one I always hit up. Also Charlotte Russe.

  23. Pam on April 8, 2010 at 8:54 am

Cute clothes and I love Amy’s, esp. her Indian food!

  24. Claire (College:Raw) on April 8, 2010 at 8:59 am

I love the shorts you got! Super cute. I usually make a beeline for Forever 21, and then Banana Republic or Ralph Lauren just to look and wish I could buy all the clothes that I can’t afford, haha.

  25. Jenny on April 8, 2010 at 8:59 am

I head to Zara first! Unless I’m in Gainesville, then I’ll go to Down to Earth- shopping here isn’t great, but it sounds better than in Valdosta;)

  26. Heather (Heather's Dish) on April 8, 2010 at 9:00 am

i love forever 21…i’d say that, crate & barrel, and old navy are the stores i hit up the most! also, your snack sounds delicious to me…but i love eating weird savory foods in the mornings 🙂 my husband always laughs at me, but i love it!

  27. bonnie on April 8, 2010 at 9:03 am

I love forever 21! I actually like charlotte russe too, and H+M. Can’t wait to grab new summer clothes!

Also, I’m so glad you posted about Panera. I LOVE panera but when I ask people about it (health-wise) I’ve heard its high in sodium and some choices aren’t as healthy or low cal as they would seem.
But I love the food! Besides what u showed, what else would u suggest eating from there for someone that’s a pescetarian (sp?) Thanks!!!

  28. Jackie on April 8, 2010 at 9:06 am

love your buys! especially that pink shirt! forever21, express, crate and barrel, VS and sephora are def my favorite stores.

  29. jen trinque on April 8, 2010 at 9:10 am

Yes, yes, yes, yes to another summer shape up starting in May!

  31. Jill on April 8, 2010 at 9:13 am

I love Anthropologie, Banana Republic, White house black market, limited, express, nordstroms … I guess I just love to shop 🙂

I am totally in for a new summer shape up plan, loved the one from last year!

  32. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on April 8, 2010 at 9:14 am

Sephora. That place is a huge time-suck for me (I could browse in there for a day and not realize it) so I try to avoid it best I can. I also love J.Crew and wish I had a $2,000 gift card for there so I could load up.

  33. RG on April 8, 2010 at 9:15 am

My favorite stores are: Bloomingdale’s (home and women’s and men’s… and ummmm baby section too), Crate & Barrel, Off Sak’s 5th Avenue, and surprisingly, GAP. I have found lots of basics for hanging around the house in recent years that are very reasonable!

My favorite designers are Roberto Cavalli (I have a few pieces from the late 90s I am still obsessed with), BCBG (perfect for every day stuff and nicer going out things), Alice & Olivia (need I say more), Rebecca Taylor (for fun summery dresses), theory (work pants etc), and about 1,000 other designers haha!

  34. Laura on April 8, 2010 at 9:16 am

    Yes to the summer shape-up!!

  35. RG on April 8, 2010 at 9:17 am

Dude could I have written any more about shopping and designers? I think we need a shopping trip together because I might rival your love for the mall!

    • Fitnessista on April 8, 2010 at 10:10 am

      ahah it’s on 🙂
i also LOVE off 5th but it’s harder to find.. when we hit up the outlets, i run there first 🙂

  36. shelly on April 8, 2010 at 9:25 am

I go directly to the Gap and Banana Republic.

  37. Morgan @ Healthy Happy Place on April 8, 2010 at 9:25 am

love your new clothes!! When I’m in the mall I usually go for J. Crew first, then Nordstrom. Love that place, I could probably spend hundreds of dollars there in 5 minutes flat.

  38. Abbey on April 8, 2010 at 9:25 am

    hi gina!!

ohhhh cute clothes & shoes!! summer clothing shopping is the best!! 😀 although i’m sure it’s much warmer weather down there during the winter than up in the north, but still…i love when they put out the bright summery colors!! XD

Forever 21 FTW! You’ve probably heard of this store, but do you ever shop at Zara? I ALWAYS go in there and I was just thinking, i bet you would totally love it…it’s like Forever 21 but with a more European flare to it. If you haven’t already checked it out here’s the website: http://www.zara.com/

    hope you have a lovely day!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Hi Gina!

Stacey here, from Boston. Newish to your blog (2 months and counting!) and I’m hooked 😉 Would lo-o-o-o-ve a summer shape up. I used your Superset work out to create a few others of my own and I love them. Any chance of posting another Fitnessista Superset?! I belong to a gym that has great classes, but I like to make sure that I’m always able to work out on my own, so that I’m not reliant on an instructor for a good sweaty work-out session. Enjoy the rest of your vacay.
    Hugs to you!

    • Fitnessista on April 8, 2010 at 10:09 am

sure, i’ll post a new superset!
welcome to the bloggy.. so glad you’re liking it so far!

  44. kara on April 8, 2010 at 9:32 am

Another summer shape up? YES PLEASE!!!!

Also, super cute purchases, I always hit up Gap, Express and Williams Sonoma when I go shopping.

  45. Laura J. on April 8, 2010 at 9:35 am

Cute clothes! Express, Forever 21, Nordstrom, J.Crew and (if I’m really lucky) Anthropologie are my faves. 🙂

I love everything I’ve ever had from Amy’s!! I’m gonna have to keep my eyes peeled for that southern dinner!

    Have fun at yoga!

  46. Erin on April 8, 2010 at 9:55 am

I go straight to Forever 21 and Express too. I’ve gotta try out Amy’s frozen dinners. They look much better than lean cuisines.

  47. katie on April 8, 2010 at 10:06 am

would love another summer shape-up – i found that keeping tabs on my workouts and eating with the spreadsheet definitely made me more mindful of it, which is always a good thing.

  48. Kathleen on April 8, 2010 at 10:08 am

Your new clothes are so cute and summery! I want warm weather to get here to MN faster so I can wear shorts and tanks with comfort!

I always hit up Victoria’s Secret, Charlotte Russe, Forever 21 and Express!

  49. Sara on April 8, 2010 at 10:11 am

I just got the same shirt from forever and plan on wearing it today!! love it.

    • Fitnessista on April 8, 2010 at 10:32 am

i might wear mine today, too! we can be twins 🙂

  50. Amara on April 8, 2010 at 10:18 am

Hey can I second the comment from the Lauren a little ways up there? With the diet change and the five pounds? 🙂 I think my problem is consistency. I do great most of the time, but then my birthday hit Tues. and I swear that birthday cake undid a week of work. I’m doing a lot of working out — 40-50 min. cardio (at least –sometimes a night session too of another 30 minutes low intensity) and 40 minutes of weights 5 days a week with long cardio on Saturdays. I’m thinking if I saw this comment I would say the person was working out too much, but I’m scared if I cut back on the workouts I won’t be able to cut back on food like I should. Any ideas???

    • Fitnessista on April 8, 2010 at 10:32 am

that sounds like WAY too much cardio to me. 30-60 minutes a day, 6 days a week + 2/3 days weights. you actually might not be eating *enough* to support all the working out you’re doing which can actually cause you to hold onto fat and gain weight.
i’d say try to focus on the quality of the workouts rather than the quality. you should be able to get in and out of there in an hour and get a killer workout.
