Desperate measures

Hey ya’ll! How are you doing?? I’m bueno – feeling much better after sleeping and resting today. Thank you so much for the get well wishes <3

Most of my day was spent between downward facing eyelids and this:

reading

Time Traveler’s Wife. I’m so ready to finish it! Then see the movie again :D

For some reason, all I wanted to eat was carbs today. I was a bad blogger and didn’t take many photos, but lunch was particularly noteworthy:

tamale

That’s right. I busted out the tamale (TWSS?? Buahah).

That’s not just any tamale- it’s a Tucson tamale from the depths of the freezer! I basically treat them like gold and save them for when I really, really want to have one. Today was the day :D

Paired with a salad beast:

After lunch I napped a little more, read a little more, painted my toenails and then ventured into my yoga studio (aka the guest room) to do a 20-minute podcast. It was the first podcast from YogaDownload that I found to be super lame (Power Yoga #2 Donation class). It was a little too much chatter and very predictable –I like random fun poses thrown in there!- so I spent most of the 25 minutes rolling around on the foam roller and then worked on my headstand. It was beautiful.

I met up with the girls at 306 North for dinner.

Nature’s cough syrup (shiraz)

shiraz

Greens salad with balsamic on the side

BREADGASM!!!!!

breadgasm

(One of the few places in this town to offer WHOLE GRAIN. And its homemade. Droooooooool)

and for my entree, I chose the market vegetable plate (and asked for no white potatoes)

vegggg

I devoured every veggielicious morsel.

Dinner was amazing, the company was lovely as usual, and I just came home to these little ladies

the ladies

Aren’t they precious when they’re not trying to eat each other???

I think I’ve found a method that works for them, for right now (*knock on wood*). I walk them in the morning, separate them during the day (baby gate in between the kitchen and living room; Bella gets the kitchen and Viesa gets the living room), unless I’m just chilling and can watch them attentively, then they’re together. I walk them together in the afternoon and at night, and by the evening they’re very mellow. They eat their dinner and we go to sleep all together. I’m just making sure they don’t rough house or get riled up at all. The second they get slightly wild, I separate them. It’s been a little exhausting, but it’s working for now!

Well I’m off to stare at McDreamy’s face on Grey’s (hurry home Pilot!).

Have a wonderful evening!

Much love,

G

Something to read: The lovely MizFit’s thoughts on Halloween Treats! I totally agree with her- INDULGE a little! No worries, and you’ll find that you munch less when it’s not a “forbidden” item. I always ate my worst when I told myself I “couldn’t have” something. As you guys know, I threw that mentality out the window and with my style of eating, I hardly crave junk food at all anymore and have no desire to eat it, even when it’s right in front of me. The candy corn on the other hand, is another story ;)

  4. I want that vegetable plate. It looks incredible! Mmmm tamale! Yum. Your dogs are so cute. Love it. Time Travelers Wife is next on my list, I’m waiting for it to become available at my library for me..it’s on hold! I just started Julie & Julia even though I have already seen the movie. Love it!

  5. You are such a trooper to still make it to dinner with your friends. I’m totally one of those cancel if I get a paper cut people. :) Hope you continue to feel better!

  6. Wow yoga, wine, and dinner with the girls….when you’re sick! You are a trooper! I am lame when I am sick and can hardly get out of my pj’s. Sorry yoga was lame. I love your “yoga studio”. I am debating turning this one room in my house into a dedicated studio but not sure yet what I am gonna do with it. Feel better!

  7. I swear, I’m going to deep freeze and send you some tamales from here :) They’re pretty good!

  8. its such a good book!!! Glad you found a way to keep the pups from fighting :)

  9. When I’m sick, all I want to do is eat carbs so I understand. Everything you ate looks delicious and healthy though, including the wine! Your puppies are so cute. I just love when animals mimic each other’s positions like they are doing, it cracks me up. :)

  10. Hahah I’m the same with candy corn! But I really am not big on the other Halloween goodies!

And ooomg that breadgasm! And your dinn! GAAAH.

  11. dinner looks great!

  12. How is the book?? I really want to see the movie!
I have never had a tamale…..What does this funky thing taste like?

    • Fitnessista says:

the book is incredible! the movie is also very good -i saw the movie when i was halfway through the book- but i want to see it again after i finish the book and can put all the pieces together
tamale.. hmm it tastes like corn bread kind of. with green chilies inside– so delicious

  13. Candy Corn – Oh my gosh, whenever people have bowls of those sitting out for Halloween, those little cones of sweet sugary goodness just call my name. Who knew corn syrupy wax could taste so good?!?

Glad you’re feeling better and that you treated yourself to an Tucson tamale. Totally digging your veggie plate from dinner with the ladies. I would have devoured every morsel.

Walking our dogs is key. Makes a huge difference in their behavior.

  14. I don’t really crave junk anymore either. But, I do love dark chocolate though so I indulge in some Giardelli or Godiva when I feel a need to ;)

  15. That’s pretty darn cool that that restaurant has homemade whole wheat rolls. Holy yum!

  16. I’m happy your feeling better.
At least you have an appetite, that’s always good when your not feeling well!

  17. I love how your pups “strike a pose” soooo cute!!!!!

  18. I hope your method for the dogs keeps working so you’ll be able to keep them both!

  19. Bella & Viesa are so cute. Does Bella seem at all wary of being around Viesa, or is she okay?
Your dinner looks good – I so loved Tucson. It’s where I had my very first tamale (at Poca Cosa).
Do you use the foam roller as a means to modify positions? Such as, would you use it like a balance ball to do crunchies?
    Have a good day!

    • Fitnessista says:

haha definitely not– i have to keep bella from jumping all over viesa. they really are little friends
POCA COSA!!! ahhhhhh! one of my favorite restaurants ever. the chocolate mousse rocks my face off
nope, i just use the foam roller to massage my aching muscles- it’s amazing

  20. Glad you’re feeling better!
I just have to say that it’s probably a good thing we don’t celebrate halloween and thanksgiving. I only have to deal with the temptations of christmas! :P

  21. candy corn = crack
And yes, I have an addiction to this type of crack.

  22. Candy corn is disgusting. I’m so glad I never had an addiction to it. The only halloween candy that is dangerous for me to be around is sour patch kids. I could eat mounds of that stuff!

  23. Dinner looks fab!!! I love huge gormuet veggie plate. Why don’t more places offer these??

I agree, eating a peice of candy or two is entirely okay. And I also agree on the Candy Corn. Good thing this stuff is soooo sweet or else I would totally over do it. :)

  24. Love the blog- You should try Philip Urso’s free podcasts- he is AMAZING (the power hour classes) and it’s FREE!!
Let me know what you think- I am addicted!

  25. So great that you’re feeling better! Everytime I see you write “nature’s cough syrup,” I forget what you mean and think, “Ugh, I hate cough syrup.” Then I see the picture and think, “YES! Wine! So much better!” :)

  26. I’m so relieved that the pups seem to be working out. I hope you’re able to keep them both!

  27. Nature’s cough syrup – LOVES!! Vino can solve anything! Glad you’re feeling better :)

Aw the puppers! I’m glad you’ve found something that works for now – sorry it’s kind of a hassle though.

  28. Your girls are so pretty! Get well soon!

Have you tried any of Cesar Milan’s dog training methods? He’s good!

  29. Bella and Viesa are adorable in that picture! I Bet you’re so glad they’re there to keep you company:)

  30. I’m in the middle of TTW too! Can’t wait to finally see the movie. So far, luvvit. Also loved Miz’s post on Halloween candy. She is wise as usual. However, I am celebrating a personal victory because the huuuuge bag of Halloween chocolates landed in the office 2 days ago and I am still happy just to nosh on my 70% dark chocolate desk stash! Last year–no chance! I would have definitely fallen victom to the mighty Reese’s. [pats self on back] So true that you end up wanting that kind of thing less and less the more you eat awesome foods.

  31. I never think about ordering a veggie plate when I go out, but this looks worth it. I may have to start looking over my options a little more carefully and choose veggie next time!

  32. I’ve been craving a good tamale for ages now, I think you just pushed me over the edge!

  33. i know you don’t eat white flour but do you not eat white potatoes either?

  34. Well, candy corn isn’t junk food :)

  35. Gina! I’m so glad that you’ve figured out a puppy situation. My mom and I actually deal with our dog and cat in a similar way! We had had our cat for a few years, and when we got our shelter dog (she was about 1 and a half) she went after him…and couldn’t get along with other animals, but is the sweetest thing to people…Soooo our cat lives outside and in the garage and the dog gets the backyard and main house, BUT we bring our cat in at a certain time every night to roam and cuddle, then hang while our dog relaxes in the backyard. Haha, sure you wanted to know all that, right?? :)

But anyway, yayy a tucson tamale! i’ve been seeing more of tucson lately, and adoree the foothills! if only that was walking distance from campus!!
