Gluten-Free Angel Food Cake Recipe
This gluten-free angel food cake is an excellent substitute for the original kind. Fluffy, light gluten-free angel food cake is perfect with coffee and would be excellent with some summer berries for dessert!
Cooking at Home Again
We’re on a roll with at-home dinners – two in a row!
I *tried* to make a version of my uncle’s famous bolognese sauce. Needless to say, it was not the same, but still really good.
(Maybe he’ll help me with a video when he’s in town?)
We enjoyed it with a side of sautéed zucchini and then dug into dessert, which was the best part about the meal. It’s beautiful, isn’t it?
I blame one of my work friends for my outta control angel food cake craving. She used to own a bakery and is a fantastic cook, so she surprises us with decadent treats on the reg. Last week, she brought the most perfect angel food cake in, and I had a few pieces in between classes. Basically, it awoke a beast because I’ve been thinking about angel food cake ever since.
Gluten-Free Angel Food Cake Recipe
I was really excited to try out a gluten-free version, so I looked up a recipe since I wasn’t sure where to start. I followed this recipe, almost exactly, just using brown rice flour instead of white since that’s what we had on hand.
Whenever I make a recipe, I check to see how many eggs it requires. Eggs are a valuable commodity in our house because we somehow always seem to run out before the week is over, whether I buy one carton or two.
Angel food cake is very egg expensive. Since I couldn’t see myself wasting 10 yolks, I figured I’d give carton egg whites a whirl, even though I’d Googled and read mixed results.
One of the best tricks my nana taught me about cooking: if you believe it will turn out well, it will. So I left them out at room temperature for a half hour like the recipe called for and gave them a whirl.
I whipped them up until they were stiff (on the patio since it was nap time–my neighbors probably think I’m crazy!).
(aren’t they beautiful?)
folded everything together gently, and sprinkled some chocolate chips on top for extra deliciousness, and into the oven it went.
The final result? Pretty heavenly.
The texture was fantastic – not as great as Susan’s, but I’ll take it. 😉
Perfect with my morning coffee, too.
I love angel food cake because it’s one of those desserts that reminds me of summer (especially with fresh berries!) and is one of those treats that’s naturally pretty healthy.
If you could have any dessert right this very second, what would you choose? Any favorite light desserts? We made these banana s’mores a couple of weeks ago and they were amaaaaazing.
Enjoy your night <3
xoxo

Caroline update: this weekend was our first weekend walk with a turkey burger bribe for each step. After Caro turned herself into a 40-lb rock statue (she’s usually about 15 lbs), she ended up riding in the Bob stroller with Livi, and loved it. Baby steps, eh?
I love zucchini! It’s one of my favorite veggies! And that cake looks too good to be true. Thanks for linking the recipe- gluten free baking always gets me. I’m still learning conversions and all that. I’ll def be trying this recipe soon 🙂
Happy Monday!

I made an Angel Food Cake from scratch once and it may have been the best dessert I’ve ever made at home! I was obsessed with Angel Food growing up – it was the one cake I requested for every birthday!
I love making AFC. With the yolks I either make custard or ice cream a few days later.
Angel food cake…to die for! I have not had any for YEARS you kind of inspired me to create your recipe for my dinner party in a few weeks! That’s when the FUN recipes come out! Thank you for sharing Love + Shine CourtStar
Yum! I’d love to dig into some Tiramisu! That has to be my favorite dessert of all time 🙂
I’m probably late to this party, but where did you find the chalk written containers??? I want! 🙂
world market! i think they were $5 each?
Thanks!! 🙂
What I have found works best(had many fosters) is to give lots of treats/praise while putting on the leash and while its on. I then let them get comfortable in it. Have the dog wear the leash around the house. It is something you just keep building on. Couple minutes, turn into 5 etc etc. You need to get the dog comfortable WITH the leash before walking her on it.
**Although I would not recommend this while your daughter is awake or home.
Also, any fosters I get, I generally do not do a regular collar. I like to use harnesses. It releases the “grip” or tension on the neck and they tend to be a bit calmer. If the dog is not used to a harness and it is a lot to get the dog in and out for walks, again leave it on. But with a harness, you can leave it on full time.
Good Luck!
good to know that we’re doing the right steps! it’s a long process, but it will be worth it
YUM! This looks awesome!! I gave up sweets for Lent, so I am anxiously awaiting Easter Sunday 😉 If I could have anything, I think I would go for a gooey s’more!
Looks heavenly! Like you said, I LOVE angel food cake with some berries! It’s the perfect light and summery dessert.
Hope Caro will soon see walks as a good thing!
“There’s a hole in this cake…”
Sorry. I couldn’t help myself. 😉
*like* x100000
Haha I’ve definitely pulled tricks like using the mixer outside! We often have a cocktail at night and my husband goes outside to shake it so as not to wake the bambino.
OMG that looks and sounds amazing!
If i could I would love some chocolate cake and ice cream.
I love angel food cake!!! This recipe looks delish, thanks might sharing.
That looks so good and yes pls get your uncle to do a video for us or pls post the recipe for us. That woukd be great!
That cake looks delish. Did you know you can make your own rice flour in the vitamix? I keep rice in the freezer so it’s already cold whenever I need some. You can google it but it’s so quick and easy and organic on the cheap if you buy rice in bulk. It was so exasperating always buying white/brown or wondering if you can mix if you are running low. Learning to make it myself has saved me mucho stress, not running to the grocery constantly and worried about bad substitution results.
After reading this I’m wanting angel food cake with whipped cream and sliced strawberries.YUMM
I love angel food cake!! It’s such a good way to curb a sweet tooth without derailing a healthy day!! And WHERE did you get those yoga pants?! They look like real pants!
they totally do! the lululemon studio pant. loooove them
Yessss! Thank you so much for posting this! 😀
This looks so yummy! Even though I love sweets, right now I’m on a low carb diet and the pasta has me drooling. The other night my hubby made a great bolognese sauce and we put it over sauteed squash and zucchini. It wasn’t *exactly* as good as pasta, but it was a wonderful alternative that I felt good about having seconds of.
I’m so glad to know that the boxed whites worked for this. I hesitate to do recipes where there are a million whites because I never know what to do with the yolks.
oh my gosh that looks amazing!! I love love love angel food cake, but haven’t had it since going gluten free. I can’t wait to try this recipe!
Ha!That blasted nap time getting in the way of mixing stuff in doors! The angel food cake looks amazing. I’ve been craving some banana foster lately.
YUM! It all looks so good. I’ve never made an angel food cake..or any cake in a bundt pan. This could be a new adventure! Btw, we used to make milkshakes in a spare bedroom at night so we wouldn’t wake my son!!
The sprinkling of mini chips is so cute on the cake. 🙂
Ooooh, those banana s’mores…my friend pre-made a bunch and pulled them out of the cooler during a rafting trip last summer. We put them in the campfire coals and had a ridiculous dessert.
Ohhh now I’m craving angel food cake. Can I steal some of yours 😉
yes, but it will need to be quick. it’s been 24 hours and there’s half a cake left 😉
It looks so light and fluffy…and healthy? How on earth!?
ohmygod that looks soooo good!! Well, I would want a HUGE piece of this right now 🙂
I love to bake my healthy version of mama’s chocolate cake. It’s so easy and I bake it and I usually make BITES, so I can store them and heat up if I am craving one. PERFECT.

My Mom has made me a confetti angel food cake for every birthday since I’ve been old enough to request what kind of cake I’d like for my birthday <3
When I became a vegan, angel food cake was one of the things at the top of the list that I really missed:( And with chocolate chips!?!?!? Heavenly!!
Love angel food cake! I’ve been wondering what to bake for Easter, and that may be the ticket!
First of all I’m so jealous you were mixing the cake batter on your patio – my Boston backyard still has patches of snow! Currently my favorite dessert is a recipe for gluten free brownies made with almond butter and agave nectar. I definitely need to try your angel food cake too!
Okay, I wish I could use a mixer outside. Pennsylvania got snow yesterday!! ugh. And my go to dessert is chocolate and coffee or chocolate and peanut butter. If one of those two combos is offered I am all over it.
I love that Caroline rode in the stroller with Liv! I think we need a picture next time!
LOL on the Caro “walk”! 😛
Love your workout top, too! (I have a “bit” of a workout top fetish. They are overflowing a dresser drawer. Instead of cutting back I’m thinking of cleaning out drawer #2 to make more room.) 😉
hahah atta girl
That angel food cake looks amazing! Have you tried double harnessing bell and caroline? We did that with my puppy when he was too scared to go on walks and now he loves them.
Haha, I want a picture of Caro in the Bob!
I hear you on the eggs – we easily go through 3 dz a week!
Oh man, I haven’t had angel food cake in ages. It was always my #1 most favorite cake ever, I even requested it for my birthday, with whipped cream and shaved chocolate bar on top!
Chocolate chip cookies! I would kill for some right now!!
