Tie Fail

So many fun adventures today!

A world beat class (which was amaaaaaazzing)

hike at Sabino Canyon

and dinner with an intimate party of 17.

sabino4

I was SO excited to take world beat this morning. As I mentioned before, there’s no recorded music, only live drummers, and we dance to international rhythms including African, Latin and bellydance- ridiculously fun. One of the girls called me up to the front to merengue with them, and I loved being back up there, yelling and shaking with my friends :)

Big bowl of oats:

(1 C oats, 1 scoop Sun Warrior, blueberries, blob of almond butter)

and we took the fam to Sabino Canyon.

The weather was perfection: breezy and in the 70s

 sabino5

tons of hikers, bikers, tram-riders and runners

gorgeous scenery, per usual.

I haven’t taken Liv to the canyon because someone told me it’s rattlesnake mating season (?!), so it was her first hike. She was very hungry when we got home ;)

The Pilot grilled and amazing lunch, we chilled and then met up with my family at Trail Dust Town, a fun little Tucson tourist trap.

There’s a cowboy performance, lots of cute little western shops, and the infamous steak house where ties adorn the ceiling and walls. The food is really mediocre, but we bought cheap-o ties for the guys to wear and thought it would be fun for our 5 year-old nephew to get his tie cut off.

As expected, the food was indeed mediocre, the company was fantastic, and no one cut off the ties at our table. The reason: they lost their cowbell. Tie fail. Haha.

Now we’re back at the house, and I’m going to do some damage to the filling of this chocolate berry tart…

Things that go “smack” in the night

by Fitnessista on February 23, 2012

in Dinner,shenannigans

The other night, while I was feeding Livi, I heard an intense SMACK into one of our living room windows.

“Wake up! I heard a noise!”

I went into the bedroom and shook the Pilot, who sleeps with earplugs in (thank goodness he didn’t have to fly in the morning), and he woke up, grabbed the gun and immediately started creeping around upstairs, trying to see what could have caused the sound. After checking all of the windows downstairs and peering about, he came back to say that he couldn’t see what could have caused the noise. I tried to explain to him that it sounded like a hand smacking against the windows, and it was weird because I heard it so clearly and our bedroom is upstairs.

That’s because it happened to one of our tall windows…

My nana was over the next day to hang out with Livi while I went to training and said “A bird hit your window!”

And sure enough, on one of the windows is a distinct bird print.

“Isn’t it beautiful?”

“Yes, the print is amazing, but makes me sad to think a dead bird might be outside.”

The Pilot couldn’t believe it when I showed him the bird print and looked around outside for the evidence… no dead bird. Weird, huh??

I hope he lived…

On a happier note, here’s a picture from yesterday’s morning snuggle sesh.

Sweet girl <3

We had a great day yesterday, and she finally got to meet her Aunt Michele, who’s here from Valdosta. Her family is from Tucson, too :)

I got to meet her little guy.. and kiss his cheeks.

Dinner was one of the classic combos we enjoy over here, cooked by the Pilot aka the man who defends the house… from birds ;)

 salmon3

Salmon, veg and baked sweet potato.

You can’t go wrong :)

This morning, Liv and I are off to check out the mommy gym on base –you can take your babies or kids in with you, and there’s a play area and TV- and run some errands before Tom’s fam gets here tomorrow.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

xoxo

December 25, 2011

Quite a beautiful and festive evening over here <3 After Zumba, I came home to make the cinnamon roll dough (which I just discovered was exploding out of the mixing bowl- a few TurboFire punches took care of that) and we got ready to head to my dadoo’s house for Christmas Eve dinner. Sugar buzz

December 23, 2011

I’m still sugar-buzzed from last night.   (GF ones in the middle, regular on the sides) Of course, the ones we messed up were dubbed “eaters” Everyone came over here to decorate the sugar cookies that mom, nana and I made the other night. Before our friends came over, I rolled out the dough (dough [...]

Dia de los Muertos

November 7, 2011

What a great night   to paint our faces like skeletons and walk around downtown Tucson. Check out how creeptastic the Pilot looked! *shudders* His first time wearing guyliner Hayley and I were painted up, too: Tonight was the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration and parade downtown, so we definitely weren’t [...]

Piece of cakewalk

October 22, 2011

Tonight was a lovely night for a squadron party [the return of hogcorn!!! <---popcorn popped with jalapenos] and a fall festival. The best part? They had a petting zoo, and the Pilot and I got to pet and cuddle multiple goats.   If that’s not the best way to party on a Friday night, I’m [...]

Hi friends How are you? Hope you’re enjoying your Sunday. This morning, we took a little trip to visit my great-nana. I’m a fan

September 18, 2011

Hey! Happy Sunday <3 Hope you’re relaxing and chilling Last night’s shenanigans were a lot of fun. I couldn’t stay at the bridal shower for very long, since I had to meet everyone at the game, but all of the girls from work were there and an amazing spread of food was set out. The [...]
