Shake for a Cause

Hey guys! Howโ€™s your day treating ya so far?? ๐Ÿ™‚

Looks like Iโ€™m not the only person in limbo right now– as always, I loved reading your comments this morning. For those of you who are also going through mayjah life transitions, hang in there. Itโ€™s definitely weird and a little stressful chillinโ€™ in limbo, but remember that itโ€™s temporary and something wayyy better is often right around the corner. <3

Some of todayโ€™s eats:

Goatโ€™s milk yogurt + 1 scoop Sun Warrior, lucuma, butterscotch extract and the other half of this morningโ€™s nanner

yogurt

More like a dessert than anything and super filling ๐Ÿ™‚

Tea in my favorite Moulin Rouge mug:

tea:

(1 bag of mint tea and 1 bag of ginger tea with almond milk and Stevia)

Salad beast!!

beast

(Yes, thatโ€™s a serving bowl.. heh heh)

Organic kale massaged with Garlic Gold olive oil, white vinegar, sea salt, garlic gold nuggets, Nama shoyu and cayenne pepper, topped with 1/2 avocado, tomato and hemp seeds

I could help but think about my salad buddy while stuffing my face ๐Ÿ˜‰

salad (2)

So as you guys know, I havenโ€™t taught Zumba consistently since the great Zumba debacle. Iโ€™ve Zumba-ed quite a bit to fill the void by attending a 5-day fitness convention, practicing at home, and taught once with Diana in Chicago at the HLS:

zumba

It made me miss teaching even more.. but also even more excited to find somewhere to teach in Orlando ๐Ÿ™‚

While I havenโ€™t been teaching, Iโ€™ve had something amazing to look forward to:

A ZUMBATHON!

This weekend, my friend Jessica (a fellow instructor and ZIN member) and I are holding a two-hour Zumba class with the proceeds benefiting Susan G. Komen.

Twitter Background Photoshop Template

What does this mean for you??

New Zumba videos! Iโ€™ve posted a couple in the past, but I have so many new dances and that wonderful man I married promised heโ€™d help out as camera man ๐Ÿ™‚ The videos will be up next week.

Iโ€™m off to train another client and then help the Pilot pack. Pack schmack ๐Ÿ˜‰

See ya soon!

xoxo

Gina

that is great you get to Zumba again, for such a great cause.

    Just a quick question..
how do you store your sun warrior?
In the fridge or freezer or just on the counter?

  3. Kim on September 7, 2010 at 5:55 pm

Have a wonderful Zumbathon! I’m organizing one to be held on October 9. Can’t wait to see the videos!

Ah that sounds like so much fun!!

  6. Carrie on September 7, 2010 at 6:00 pm

I needed a serving bowl for my salad today, I kept adding things to my pile of greens. I love me a colorful salad.

  7. KimEatandBe on September 7, 2010 at 6:11 pm

Awesome! I am looking forward to your Zumba videos and what a great idea…a Zumbathon.
That salad beast looks awesome as well, even though I have IBS and can’t eat raw veggies on an empty stomach, I may try it out so long as I have a bit of bread or pasta beforehand. Gotta work with what we have, right?

  8. Joslyn (missfitbliss) on September 7, 2010 at 6:36 pm

I have to admit, the goat products makes me nervous! I’m trying to baby-step into it. I love goat cheese, but the goat milk and butter, etc just seems like it wouldn’t be very tasty. Working on eliminating this strange phobia;)

    • Fitnessista on September 7, 2010 at 8:21 pm

      don’t be afraid! they’re delicious ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. J on September 7, 2010 at 6:43 pm

Hi Fitnessista, my wife loves your blog, she reads it every day. I don’t really know how this comment thing works but our anniversary is in a few weeks and I want to surprise her with a food dehydrator. The other day she mentioned she wants the same one you have. Could you tell me what kind it is? I know she said the brand is Excalibur, but there are different models with trays and timers and I’m confused… Any advice on where to buy? Help a guy out please! Thanks.

  10. Martha on September 7, 2010 at 6:59 pm

Where are the Zumba videos that you’ve posted in the past? I can’t wait to see the new ones as well!

  11. Caitlin (EatFeats) on September 7, 2010 at 7:01 pm

How fun, and what a great cause/thing to do! I’ve never tried Zumba before, so I am excited for new videos. Like most women, I looove to dance.

Once I ate goat’s milk yogurt and I SWEAR I oozed goat-scented sweat for the next day. Goat products now scare me a little. Do you know of any, more mild-tasting goat products? I’m trying to reduce cow’s milk products, but finding it hard without a good alternative!

  12. Laura @ Backstage Pass to Health & Happiness on September 7, 2010 at 7:12 pm

Hooray for more Zumba! You are a great teacher – I can vouch for you, that class at HLS was super challenging yet a blast! – it’s great that you’ll be teaching again soon.

  15. RhodeyGirl on September 7, 2010 at 7:31 pm

I love this- how can I support it from afar? Are you accept donations for the Susan G. Komen foundation?

    • Fitnessista on September 7, 2010 at 8:14 pm

      hi friend ๐Ÿ™‚
i’m hoping to set up a page for those who want to virtually participate!

  16. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on September 7, 2010 at 7:31 pm

I eat my salads in serving bowls too. It’s easier just to mix it all up and eat it in one dish. Fewer dishes–nice!

  17. Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews on September 7, 2010 at 7:34 pm

Yum! What a tasty looking salad!

  18. holly @ couchpotatoathlete on September 7, 2010 at 7:37 pm

Serving bowls were made for salads — I can’t eat salads on a dinner plate because stuff falls off and a cereal bowl is much too small.

Zumba for 2 hours? I can’t wait to see some of your new videos!

  19. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on September 7, 2010 at 7:42 pm

Congrats on the Zumba-thon! YAY how fun! I have ran 5 and 10k’s for the Susan G Komen foundation and it’s so fun and rewarding. I am always brought to tears when I am running a race and I see a woman who’s a cancer survivor running or walking…puts life into perspective, in a hurry. Great cause and so happy you’re going to be doing something you’ve missed…that’s awesome ๐Ÿ™‚

    xoxo

I’m happy you get to teach Zumba again, it sucks I won’t be taking your class anymore. I hope at our next base we have a teacher like you. have a bless day

  21. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on September 7, 2010 at 8:08 pm

That sounds like such a great class!! I’ve only taken one Zumba class (at HLS, the first one Diana taught) but it was so fun!! It’s awesome that you’re doing it for a good cause!

  22. Jess on September 7, 2010 at 8:13 pm

Limbo can really stink sometimes! But imagining that light at the end of the tunnel can really help carry you through! I’m in limbo too and only have a little less than a month left! Keep trucking girl! Hoping everything works out amazing for you!!

  23. Lauren on September 7, 2010 at 8:41 pm

Awww, I’m so bummed I can’t come to your Zumbathon!!!! But I can’t wait for the videos! ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. Gennie on September 7, 2010 at 8:52 pm

Question for you: Why goat cheese? ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m curious since you seem like you’re mostly vegan, what makes goat cheese more legitimate than cow cheese? Really not trying to put you on the spot or anything, I’m genuinely looking for information ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks, I really love your blog! You truly are an inspiration for me – your healthy attitude with food is what I hope to achieve (one day – le sigh).

    • Fitnessista on September 7, 2010 at 9:38 pm

      hey gennie!
i prefer goat cheese because it’s really easy for the body to digest, isn’t as mucus forming as cow’s dairy (gross, but true!) and doesn’t make my skin break out.. oh, and it tastes AMAZING ๐Ÿ™‚

  25. fittingbackin on September 7, 2010 at 9:31 pm

zumbathon?! Love it – how cute/clever and what a great cause. Can’t wait for videos!

  26. kim on September 7, 2010 at 9:34 pm

lucuma?? why do you take it? what does the bag look like?

    • Fitnessista on September 7, 2010 at 9:37 pm

i take lucuma because it has a beautiful caramel flavor – it’s from sunfoods (and in my opensky store too)

  27. Shanna @ Shanna Like Banana on September 7, 2010 at 11:15 pm

Definitely in limbo too…major work stress, looking to move to East Coast, changes for hubby and I, etc.

Good to know we’re not alone ๐Ÿ˜‰

  28. Jessica@tastyandtrim on September 8, 2010 at 12:16 am

And I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who eat my salads in GIANT serving bowls! My husband is convinced that it “can’t be healthy” to eat THAT much salad… ha ha. ๐Ÿ˜‰

have fun at the Zumbathon! excellent idea! x

  32. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on September 8, 2010 at 8:19 am

Eating salads in serving bowls is a must! There’s no way mine could ever fit in a normal sized bowl. ๐Ÿ˜›

Have fun teaching the Zumbathon! I’ve never tried Zumba so I’m excited to see the videos!

  33. Kelly on September 8, 2010 at 8:19 am

I’m in limbo too! We just bought a new house but it’s not move-in ready yet and we still haven’t closed. Meanwhile we haven’t put our condo on the market because the house buy was kind of unexpected. I’m also at the end of a fellowship and looking for a job. Things are going to be waaay different in a few months. Good luck with your transitioning. Can’t wait to read all about it!

  36. melissa @ the delicate place on September 8, 2010 at 9:05 am

i’m right there in limbo land with you. my house has been on the market for 6 weeks and isn’t selling, my job ends on sept 30th but i *think* i might get picked up for a temp situation if all goes well doing more scientific research so that will keep the resume prime. trying to find a new job in a new city as well as my husband. we could be moving in a couple months or not until the spring. my house kinda dictates that and in the meantime i’m just hanging on for the ride!

yes it has a lovely caramel flavor ๐Ÿ™‚

    Good luck with the Zumbathon!

Up here in CT we have an amazing event called Spin Odyssey, which is a spin-a-thon, anywhere from 2-6 hours. This year we added Zumba on for 3 hours I think. It was a huge success and we had about 100 or so people getting their Zumba on. It was great and I can’t wait to see what we do with it this year. (not the best website, but it’s http://www.spinodyssey.com if you’re curious.

Great job and have fun with it!
