Ferocious

Hey friends! How has your Friday been? Up to anything fun this weekend?

I just saw Lion King in 3D with a couple of friends. It’s funny because when I saw the commercial that it was re-released, I was like “Ohhh! I want to go see it!” And then today after making plans, I was doubting it. Did I really want to sit in a theatre for an animated movie?

Yes, actually, I did.

3d

[The kissing cheetah bracelet was coincidental, but so appropriate haha]

It was awesome, especially in 3D. It brought back many memories of my intense childhood crush on Jonathan Taylor Thomas 😉 The Pilot was jealous that the girls went to see it while he was at work- I said I’d see it again with him.

Some other events from the day:

-Errands

-Gym (just did some light cardio since I teach two intense classes tomorrow)

-Picked my little bro up from school

-A salad beast dreams are made of

beast

Of course, anything covered in a blanket of goat gouda is a win, but this combo was pretty mind-blowing:

veg (2)

Roasted butternut squash and local orange tomatoes with sea salt and pepper (at 375 for about 40 minutes)

+ kale, wilted in lemon juice, olive oil, sea salt and cayenne

beast (2)

Topped with goat gouda.. the end of this week’s block [in all fairness, Bella ate some of it, too]. The salad beast combo reminded me of fall, even though I ate it on the patio in 103* weather.

We’re off to grab some dinner and see where the night takes us.

Have a lovely evening!

xoxo

Something to do:

Ferocious Arm workout! [As always, check with a doc before making any exercise changes]

-Bench chest fly (10-12)

-Barbell bicep curls

-Tricep dips (15)

Side laying lateral raise (10 on each side)

-Push-ups (as many as you can do in 1 minute)

*Repeat this circuit 1-2 more times for a full arm workout, and combine with this Schweaty Elliptical Workout if you’d like to add in some cardio 🙂

I made roasted butternut squash for the first time today, and it was simply amazing. There is something special about roasted vegetables — I could eat them all day! Wish I could see The Lion King in 3D, but it’s not playing in the UK. It was the first movie my twin brother and I saw in theaters! So happy you decided to see it 🙂

I love the Lion King, such a fantastic movie. I can watch classic Disney movies again and again. The newer ones… not so much

103F degrees! Whoa. It’s like Antarctica here in NY compared to that and I thought it was a little warm at 70 F degrees, lol.

    Happy Fall!!

  18. Christine @ BookishlyB on September 24, 2011 at 12:37 am

I had completely forgotten about JTT ad his shaggy little bowl cut!

  19. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on September 24, 2011 at 8:23 am

I love the Lion King! Timmon and Pumba were my favourite. 😀

I can’t believe how hot it is there! I’ve had to put on a COAT a few times this week!

  20. Sam on September 24, 2011 at 8:28 am

Wow I love what you did with that salad…I bet it tastes fantastico!!! Roasted tomatoes are just SO good, and roasted squash too. WINNING MEAL! I hope you enjoyed lion king…sounds fun! I have a friend who is obsessed with musicals and HE went when they were here in town.

  21. Hillary on September 24, 2011 at 8:29 am

    1. I need to get on the butternut squash bandwagon. Sweet potatoes and pumpkin are my jam, so I don’t know why I haven’t made this yet!

    2. Will be doing this arm workout today. Psyched.

  22. Erika - The Teenage Taste on September 24, 2011 at 8:32 am

Haha! Love the Lion King – was the 3D really good? I feel like it would be so much better in 3D!
    Have a great weekend! 😀

  23. Amber L on September 24, 2011 at 9:07 am

aaa the Lion King is my FAVORITE animated movie ever!!! I’m hoping to see it in 3D before it goes out of the theater!
I’m jealous that you have warm weather (even if it is 103!) It is so dreary and damp in Jersey 🙁

  24. Anna @ On Anna's Plate on September 24, 2011 at 9:10 am

Awww, I want to see the Lion King– I think it will make me cry!! We saw the musical in NY a few years ago, and my sister and I were both sobbing during the opening number. I don’t know why, but something about it is very emotional. Well, she was also pregnant, so there’s that 🙂

  25. Sara K on September 24, 2011 at 12:21 pm

I thought those squashes were mango at first! Looks tasty though and that is one feroshhh arm workout!

  26. Natasha Brown on September 24, 2011 at 12:39 pm

J’adore the bracelet…you look stunning (as per usual!) I can’t wait to see the Lion King again – I love it!

Is that a play area in your yard?! How perfect for you and little Nugette!

  27. Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) on September 24, 2011 at 1:19 pm

Oh my gosh, JTT! Haha my best friend used to love him! I was more a Leo DiCaprio kinda girl at that age. 😉

  28. Kristi @ Sweet Cheeks on September 24, 2011 at 1:37 pm

Hopefully you get some of the cool weather we’ve had lately…70-80 degrees has been to die for!!!

  29. Irene on September 24, 2011 at 1:52 pm

Hey Gina, just wanted to let you know I was inspired by your “solo spin sessions” on the workouts page to try one myself and it was awesome! I’ve had a tough time making it to the cycle classes at my gym lately and I think this is going to help fill the void! I’d love it if you did another one some time! So much fun. I really worked it because I knew I could stop if I couldn’t make it the full hour – my heart was coming out of my chest:)

  30. Jessica @ Jess Go Bananas on September 24, 2011 at 1:54 pm

The salad beast sounds delicious! I might have to make it myself…:)

  33. T on September 24, 2011 at 4:50 pm

    Hello from Canada,

I found your blog a few months ago through searching for vegetarian recipes & have been reading every day since but never commented. I have to say it is fantastic, its the first time Ive found someone who eats very close to how i eat. Anyway, your roasted squash salad looked so good, i made it today and it is fantastic. ive also had your oats (but i eat them raw) and some other recipes and have yet to be disappointed. Keep on blogging you are so inspiring to a person like me who generally doesn’t like to cook!

Butternut Squash is my favorite veg at this time of year. It’s so comforting

  35. Lindsay Loves Veggies on September 24, 2011 at 5:59 pm

I used to kiss my JTT poster. Yeah, I was a crazed little 8 year old. 🙂
I have a tiny tv with a built in VCR in my bedroom, so I get to catch up on my old Disney movies pretty frequently while I go to sleep.

  36. Dominique on September 24, 2011 at 7:35 pm

That salad beast looks amazing! I’d love to create it but I left my goat cheese at the BF’s–boo. I also don’t have any butternut squash and the car is at the dealer’s so….my salad beast will have to wait. OMG I’m watching a commercial for The Lion King on Blu-Ray right now. How funny is that?! I was in love with that movie too…it made me cry!

  37. Sarah S on September 25, 2011 at 10:12 am

great arm workout! your post yesterday morning came at a perfect time. i hurt my knee this week but committed to working out with my husband saturday afternoon. when i saw your arm workout, it called my name! it took me about 45 minutes total (i added a set of back and side extensions to the routine just for fun) and i made sure to use challenging weights… i’m definitely sore this morning!

    • Fitnessista on September 25, 2011 at 1:48 pm

yeahhhhhh! hope your knee heals quickly <3

I am suuuper jealous of your 103* weather. It’s pushing 60* here and I just got back from a run at the lakefront…it was like the Arctic.

I love your salad beast. Butternut squash just got put on my shopping list 🙂

  39. Aneida on September 26, 2011 at 3:11 am

Hi Gina! Just wondering where you purchased the bowls you put your salad beasts in. I’m on the hunt for a big salad bowl that’s not too deep and not too shallow. This one looks perfect!

    • Fitnessista on September 26, 2011 at 3:16 pm

the white ones are from bed, bath and beyond and the one with the handles is from kohls

  40. Andrea P on September 26, 2011 at 9:25 am

Ha, I did the exact same thing. I got so excited when I saw previews and then the day of I was like..do I really want to spend the money seeing it in the theatre? Glad I did, LOVED it. and I love your kissing cheetah bracelet! I have one that is of kissing frogs and it is my fav 🙂

That salad looks delish! I just bought some butternut squash, definitely gonna try that out!
