That’s how it happens
Heyyyyy ๐ How are ya? Hope youโve had a fantastic Tuesday <3
[Bella in the sun. I told her she looks like a beach angel <— hilarious commercial]
Today was a standard Tuesday over hereโฆ frantically getting everything done before I go to work on Wednesday.
(Brown rice toast with AB + 1/2 banana, 1 egg + 1 egg white omelet with arugula, nutritional yeast and salsa blanket, ginger tea)
Snacks for the road:
Weights workout โthe yoga peeps were in the room I like to use for my weights seshes, so I had to fight the beefy military guys for the free weights and machines
and
a fully-stocked fridge
thanks to a trip to the commissary + the goodies I grabbed at Trader Joeโs yesterday.
[3 bags filled with groceries = $76. I LOVE the commissary here. They donโt have a lot of organic produce, so Iโll grab that at Trader Joeโs, but everything else, including my favorite organic brands, they have]
Itโs funny because I used to complain about the base is Valdosta allllll the time. I actually called the commissary the commisscary (it was scary), and the only amazing thing about the base was the trail I would run with the pups. I really think we made the best out of living in Valdosta โwe had a blast with our friends, each other and traveled fairly often- but I told the Pilot if I would have known we would get our dream station, here in Tucson, I wouldnโt have complained ever. Of course thatโs how it works, right?
So I was searching through the iPhone for a couple of other pics I took today, but I have no idea what happened to them, so instead, here ya go:
In case you were wondering what I would look like as an alien.
And the Pilot, stoked, after a man on the resort elevator Sunday morning gave him the rest of his Captain Mo bottle. The guy was like โHey, I have to get on a plane right now, do you want this?โ
Is the Pope Catholic? Of course he wanted it.
Iโm going to make some dinner and then Zumba-fy.
xoxo
Gina
Something to talk about: When was the last time you were in a situation and now, looking back, it really wasnโt as bad as you thought? Any other awesome Photobooth apps that I need? ๐
Workout challenge: [Always talk to a doc before making any fitness changes]
-Jog in place 2 minutes (or jump rope)
-Lateral lunges, alternating, 2 minutes
-Pulsing squats- 30 seconds
-Jump squats- 30 seconds
-Calf raises- 1 minute
-Mountain climbers- 1 minute
-Plank: Hold for 10 seconds, rest for 3. Repeat as many times as youโd *like*
Niiiice! Awesome workout routine Gina! And wowwwieeee you are way better looking than the alien version of you ๐
ahhhhh! I love the alien pic!
You refrigerate your almond butter? I never do… sits at room temperature on the shelf. Am I doing it wrong?? Haha.
I would say my first year of optometry school wasn’t as bad as I felt like it was, but that would be a lie lol. I think I’ll need a good decade of time to pass for me to feel that way haha!
yep- my jars almost always say refrigerate after opening, and it’s so hot here, so i just toss them in the the fridge
your fridge is so clean! mine looks like a train wreck next to that ๐
i worked 5 summers as a lifeguard and just thought it was the most boring, awful, job in the world! i remember feeling like a babysitter to country club moms who wanted to go play tennis and lunch for hours on end. looking back, that was the easiest job i’ll ever had!!
that’s how i felt about abercrombie!
i stood at the register for hours, or greeted people, didn’t have to do anything else and got paid for it??
Oh my gosh – my husband would love your refrigerator. Ours is always so full, something falls out everytime you open it. Haha ๐ It drives him crazy. I just have so many jars of nut butters and containers of hummus and goat cheese and salsas…..Oh well ๐
Love the alien pic ๐
omg Jason would be so jealous if he saw this post — I think it is his dream for random people to give him bottles of Captain.
I’ve had a few jobs that seemed like the most awful thing ever, but now looking back it was just like any other job: there are negatives and positives no matter how you look at it.
Haha LOVE Bella poking her little head in the picture of the groceries. SO cute! ๐
The question at the end of this post is SO fitting for today. Long story short, I decided to sublet this year (I’m a Junior in college) instead of living in a dorm to cut costs and have more freedom. The woman I’m dealing with happens to live in the other bedroom of this 2-bedroom apt. and she’s CRAY-ZAY (we’re talking a hoarder with paranoia and I’m not allowed to use the kitchen and the bathroom is NASTY). Today I saw an apartment in a better location–it’s a studio with hardwood floors and exposed brick and a fire escape and I put an offer in!! I immediately felt a sense of relief, but then started telling myself that the sublet wasn’t so bad! (When I type it out I realize that it’s a horrible situation). I don’t know if I have the place yet, but if I do I’ll be moving in two days!!
Funny, Sunday night we actually gave my brother and his wife a bottle of rum, 2 bottles of wine and nearly a LITRE of mint chocolate bailey’s we had here. Neither of us drink and it was sitting around since my brief days as a mystery shopper (which I did while training to become an instructor). He was pretty excited about getting free Captain Morgan too! ๐
I’m a new reader of your blog, and I love it! My husband is also in the AF, and we were almost had orders to DM last fall, but ended up at Dover instead. The commissary here is super small and doesn’t carry much organic produce, but other things are priced great. The commissary at Barksdale was much bigger though.
lol love that alien picture! your hot haha
i definitely need to stock up our fridge, its pretty bare! i need healthy food so i eat healthy, its hard to eat healthy with no food in the house
Oh those days when i was SOOOOO stressed out about OMG A PAPER or OMG A TEST and had no bills. Totally should’ve made the best of it.
well everything isnt as bad once it’s past –
I worked in a coffee shop in the mall while in high school. I hated having to wake up early on the weekends to cover shifts.
Looking back…working in a coffee shop is quite possibly my most favorite job. But Ice rink (Zamboni driver) is a tie with coffee shop.
And just wondering, why was the commissary in Valdosta so terrible? Lack of selection or something else?
We might be stationed there so I want to get as much information as possible ๐
Also a neat reader’s request post might be on the bases y’all have been to and the pros and cons!!!
Ha ha I love both pics! Hilarious!
Lucky Pilot!
You’re a posting machine today! 3 reg posts and a family post…or maybe only 2 regular ones + the family post…either way, you’re at 3 or 4. WOW…impressive!!!
I love The Pilot’s expression after being gifted some Captain. Classic!
When was the last time you were in a situation and now, looking back, it really wasnโt as bad as you thought? = when I thought that I HAD TO OWN my house and picked up and moved to a new state b/c real estate was cheaper and then went thru a horrible time trying to sell it after deciding that I did not like the new area, I missed San Diego, my friends, sense of community, the beaches! the weather and everything else about it. I learned that sometimes renting is ok and you dont have to be a homeowner ๐ And am happily back in San Diego and will never be leaving again!
Love the picture of the Pilot! Hilarious!!!
It’s funny to read your post, because my husband and I were discussing the first two years we met yesterday- we met senior year of college and had both been accepted into graduate programs- him in Boston and me in Philly. We ended up living the first 1.5 years of our relationship apart, but it really made us much stronger as a couple! Our communication is great, since we built a really strong foundation from the beginning! It’s only been in the last few years that I’ve really started to appreciate how much strength that time gave us- while we were living apart, I was just thinking about how miserable it was!! Love the alien photo! Those apps are so fun! Try and take a picture of Bella and play with it! The animal ones are great too…
Hahaha, love the alien pic! And also the price of all your food! That is awesome, I go to a market here in Vancouver and almost NEVER pay full price for anything. Lots of already ripe produce that they are trying to get rid of. I have been in a few bad situations in my life, and I have to say, when I look back on them, they were as bad as I thought they were and I am glad I am not there anymore! Yay for change!
That alien picture actually kind of scares me. For real. I have alien abduction phobias. But then, I also think the crawl space in my house is haunted, so take that with a grain of salt.
(By the way, I love that you have Wicked grocery bags.)
“I told the Pilot if I would have known we would get our dream station, here in Tucson, I wouldnโt have complained ever.”
So funny you said that! I feel the same way. We were stationed at a completely miserable place in Alabama for two years and while I tried to make the best of it, it just plain sucked. Fortunately, we were rewarded with Hawaii for our next duty station!
haha that pic of you is hilar! I love playing with photo booth on my dads mac and taking funny pics!
Bah! You make a great alien ๐
Love that workout!
Ooohh, the last time something felt bad at the time…. too many to count. In fact, I think it happens daily at work. I come in and see my inbox crowded and start freaking out, but I work through them little by little, and then I wonder why I worry!
A Trader Joes is opening in State College in November and I can’t wait!! So excited!
I feel like past breakups I thought were way worse than they actually were now looking back. Being in the relationship I am now I realize that the past relationships I was in were unhealthy and nowhere near as deep or real as I thought they were at the time. If anything I feel so grateful for all the bad stuff that happened because it led me to the most amazing guy and made me appreciate him so much more because of it.
Loving the stocked fridge, always feels so good doesn’t it?
We have a commisscary (exactly what I call it too!) on our camp here in Saudi too (even thought we live on a company compound it’s not military but it looks and runs like a military base ie free gyms, facilities etc). But seriously girl, if you think you were missing out when you lived in Valdosta, you need to move here. Sometimes I need to go to another country (ie Bahrain) just to get some decent veggies and IF I am lucky, they will be organic.
With our comm too, when they do have good things in stock, I tend to stock up big time (non perishables) as you never know if/when they will get them back in again, but can you believe last week I found they had lucuma there. I don’t think even supermarkets back home in Australia would even stock that kinda thing.
Two questions related to the photos in the post. 1. Is that green and clear thing a water bottle? If so, it may be the coolest one I’ve ever seen. Where can I get it? 2. Is the asparagus in your fridge in a bowl with water? Is that the best way to keep asparagus? (<—clueless ๐ )
We were stationed in Milton, FL (which is on the west end of I-10, about 3-4 hrs from Valdosta and it was horrific. I think I complained more in that 3 years than I did in my entire life. But, now, looking back, I wish I had made the best of the situation. We lived 20 minutes from Pensacola, which isn’t too bad (but if I had a choice, still would not choose to live there)…there are some things I miss about the area, and while its still a hole in the wall, po-dunk place, I have learned that as a military family, you need to make the best of where you are all the time. Lesson learned. I now am loving where we live (DC Metro…MD). Glad you all are at your dream duty station. ๐
That picture of the Pilot actually made me guffaw. Yes, guffaw. It’s just too good.
I love your site and just wanted to let you know! I just found it a week or so ago and have been exploring your posts and information. I think its great to share what you seem to know about and will help me out a lot! Im a baker but as much as I love me some sweets i cannot get enough sports and fitness and these works out and recipes are going to great for me to follow!
I worked at a farm this summer and at times I hated it so much it made me cry, but looking back I actually kind of liked it. ๐
I wish my fridge was as neat as yours. Mine is total chaos!
ha! that picture of The Pilot cracked me up! yay for free booze!
Awe Bella is just the cutest ๐
As for a time that in hindsight doesn’t seem so bad.. I can say I do that close to every University semester so far hahaha ๐ I really should try to “enjoy” the moments more!
P.s. You just inspired me to organize my fridge.. haha
Mmm your breakfast looks so good I just might need to have an omelette for breakfast myself. Oh the inspiration of the blog world! I always have salsa with my eggs so i love the idea of a salsa blanket!
Memories for me are always more fonder than the actual situation. We hated the first house we lived in when we were married because it was too small and our stuff was never organized. I remember that, and the fights we had over it, ha! but whenever I find myself in that neighborhood, I always get kind of nostalgic and miss the house. I think with any situation, if you’re currently in a place where you’re happy, you can look back on things and see the good in them.
“You look like a beach angel!” was my overused but always funny comment of the summer!! ๐
the pilot and i still say it to each other, haha
Hahaha I love that the guy gave him a whole bottle of booze, and his face looks awesome in that picture
I love a stocked fridge! What’s going on with your asparagus?? Is that how I am supposed to store it?
in a bowl or glass of water keeps it fresh longer ๐
Good to know! thanks ๐
Perfect little workout! Just emailed it to myself since tomorrow I need a quicky (I have a dentist apt before work)! Can’t wait to try it!
The last time I thought a situation was horrible was this past March when my car flooded. The insurance people didn’t pick it up for two days, I had to pay for my rental, it was disgusting. I was so upset because it was only 1.5 years, the first car I ever bought completely on my own, and I took such great care of it ๐
My car ended up being totaled – which ended up being the best thing ever. Now that I’m working more, I can afford a better car AND because I took such great care of my old one, I received the highest amount insurance would offer! I was able to get an better car, well small suv since my car flooded, and it happened right around my birthday. It’s amazing how things work out sometimes ๐
I just did that workout because i’m on vacation and left my insanity dvds at home… it’s been 13 hours since I did it and I literally can’t walk. hahaha, thank you!!!
glad you liked it! be sure to stretch out those sore legs!
Just wanted to tell you that I did Zumba for the first time yesterday! I have to admit that I’ve always thought it would be a little too “low key” for me, but I LOVED IT. Who the heck wants to run on a treadmill for an hour when you can jump around and dance, and burn the same number of calories?? Not me! Zumba = awesomesauce. ๐
AMEN. i burn more calories in zumba than on the treadmill ๐
I was wondering where did you get your water bottle? I love it!
