Calming the Shiba

Hey hey hey 🙂 Hope you’re all having a great day! I loved reading about your workout plans for the week. As expected, ya’ll are quite the gym monkeys- I love it 🙂

I started mine off with a giant organic Fuji apple and a walk with the puppers on the base trail.

apple

We walked for a half hour and it was beautiful. The weather was perfect and walking the fur babies on the trail is so peaceful!

Have I mentioned before that Viesa is afraid of life??

viesser

Well one small noise, a garbage truck, postman or stranger, and she tries to escape and head home. It’s taken an excellent harness, lots of discipline (and ignoring her when she does it), and she’s gotten much better, but one thing has stayed the same: she loves the base trail. She seems so confident out there and can actually run around without being a scaredy Shiba. So I’m making it a goal that since the weather is nicer, I’m going to drive the puppers to base to walk them more often. Rule #76: No excuses, play like a champion.

When we got back to the casa, it was bfast time and my savory tooth came a-knockin’

bfast

Usually in the morning, I crave sweet but today I wanted spicy and savory.  2 egg white puffs with Texas Pete on top of Babycakes cornbread (awesome cookbook), with an organic salad and balsamic. Face rocking.

I went up to the yoga room to do 60 minutes of the Shiva Rea DVD but after a half hour, I did my own thang. Rolled on the foam roller, practiced my favorite poses (balancing half moon, tripod headstand, crow, dancer, toppling tree into standing splits), with 6 glorious minutes of savasana at the end.

For lonchi, I busted out the chia seeds and made a scrumptious mesquite chia pudding.

-1/4 C chia seeds

-1 T Sun Warrior vanilla

-1 T mesquite

-1 t vanilla

-1 C fresh almond milk

chia

Topped with:

-1/2 sliced banana

-1/2 T almond butter

-cinnamon

-foodgasms

chia (2) - Copy

Perfection.

I just got back from a training appointment and am about to rub some Biofreeze on the ol’ knee and *attempt* to go on my first run post-half marathon. Hopefully it will be pain-free… if not, I’ll have a lovely walk sesh 🙂

Hope you have a wonderful night and I’ll see ya in the morning with that Zumba video.

xoxo,

Gina

Today’s workout jam: “United State of Pop 2009” DJ Earworm (a bloggy suggested this one to me before the half marathon, and I LOVE it)

Happy Blogiversary to my lovely friend, Jenn! <3

good luck with your run! sometimes i get a craving for savory too but i am definitely a sweet girl 😉

love your veggies incorporated in bfast. i unfortunately HATE spinach/kale in my smoothies so i can’t become a green monster fan.. but i do love veggies in omelets or with eggs like your bfast!

viesa is such a beautiful dog!

  10. Jennie {in Wonderland} on March 16, 2010 at 4:44 pm

I often crave savoury things for breakfast… for weeks all I ate for brekky was Mary’s crackers with hummus and a salad on the side with avocado. Plus a Green Monster. I was always roaring with energy during those days!

I almost wish I still ate eggs – your egg puffs look so pretty!

    • Christine on March 16, 2010 at 6:15 pm

I have heard such mixed things about eggs!! If you don’t mind me asking, what made you choose not to eat them?

  11. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg on March 16, 2010 at 4:50 pm

Hope your run is a good one! I almost always crave sweet in the morning…but sometimes, my mouth will surprise me and pop up with a savory craving instead! 🙂

Hey, I think your blog is great! I started training for a half marathon last week. I found a 12 week training schedule that looks pretty good, but I was wondering which one you used and if you liked that one. I just wanted to compare mine to ones other people have liked, but only one person I know has done a half!
    Thanks!
    Meghan

  15. Christine on March 16, 2010 at 6:13 pm

Hey! I just started reading your blog and I love it! I am so inspired by your recipes and I am about to order some Sun Warrior and Chia seeds from Amazon.com. Anyway, seeing as you workout quite a bit (go girl), I can imagine you sometimes run out of music or get sick of what you have on your iPod. I just started subscribing to a podcast called Cadence Revolution that releases over an hour of free “international” music every week. The latest one I listened to was a reggae-style mix, and the beat was great. Thanks for all of your posts and I’m look forward to continuing reading your blog!!!

That gfree cornbread looks sooo good, I’m going to have to order the babycakes cookbook! Just wondering…do you have the recipe or mix that you used for the gluten free pizza dough/sandwich you just made a few days ago? I would love to know of a good one. Thanks!!

  17. Jessica @ The Process of Healing on March 16, 2010 at 8:16 pm

    Good luck with run!!!
I want to try Chia pudding. I’ve added it to oats and yogurt and smoothies but never just made pudding. YUM!

  18. ShoeZq on March 16, 2010 at 8:36 pm

My Shiba is the exact same way. Afraid of everything. It’s so hard to take her for walks because she has a fit and starts panting really heavily. We also CANNOT give her a bath. She quite literally screams and claws. I’m pretty sure my husband has some scars from our last bathing the shiba experience.

    • Fitnessista on March 16, 2010 at 8:57 pm

hahah as soon as vies hears the water, she hides under the bed. good to know it’s common with their breed. do you have kids by any chance?? i’m wondering how she would do with them. a baby came over once and she was not a fan

      • Shoezq on March 17, 2010 at 1:50 pm

We don’t have kids. And she has never allowed any to get close enough to see how she would react. Sorry I can’t be more helpful. On a completely different subject… When you were first beginning a dedicated work out regimen how did you keep yourself motivated? I know you are at the point now where you feel lost without a daily dose of exercise and I want to get to that point but don’t know how.

        • Fitnessista on March 17, 2010 at 2:24 pm

yeah i worry about the kid thing with vies. i’m hoping my little bro will be able to take her
i just tried to find ways to keep things exciting- trying new classes, taking a magazine with me, new ipod music. before long, i was hooked

Gina, thanks for the info on the coconut butter! I am so glad you told me you did it at a 3-4, too! Excellent info, and now I am kicking myself I didnt snag those coconut flakes from WF’s today. Well, there’s always tomorrow 🙂

As for your open sky, I have been tempted but haven’t jumped in yet.
    The chard wraps w/ apricots/raisin filling…awesome!
And the fact that you shut off Shiva and did your own thing…perfect 🙂

Thanks for poppin over today, it means alot!
    xoxo

  24. Bridget on March 16, 2010 at 10:26 pm

A friend of mine has a shiba and he is kind of a spaz in general! He’s pretty sweet, but is known to freak out or get scared by the littlest things. Hope your run went well!

Oo i’m excited to see the new Zumba video. I want to do Zumba so bad 🙁 my job sucks tho and leaves me with no energy (4am wake up) and my feet ache so incredibly much that i can’t walk for hours after.

    • Fitnessista on March 16, 2010 at 11:37 pm

seriously, i love it. no not yet since i gave up sweets for lent..as soon as easter gets here, i am all over that cookbook

  28. Diane on March 17, 2010 at 12:58 am

I think I’m gonna have to get that Babycakes cookbook-every time I see it the cover sucks me in 🙂

Not to sound like a total creepster, but is there a reason you don’t really eat Clif or Luna bars anymore? J/w because I’m always looking to improve my eats and you’re a great role model for that!

I have 2 Shiba Inus and my little girl is also very afraid of loud sounds and plastic bags, but the my other is so laid back and mellow.

    Good luck with the knee!

  32. maggie on March 17, 2010 at 1:57 pm

I have a 4-year-old Shiba who is also afraid of life (garbage trucks are her nemesis, too). Makes me feel better to know there are others out there!
