Heading to LA la land

Hiiiii 😀 How are you guys? Hope your day is going well! I’m SO excited for all of the “Show Me Your Fit” entries I’ve received. The pictures are so much fun- I can’t wait to share them with you!

Today has been a tornado of craziness. We leave for LA tomorrow and per Gina standards, I’m still not packed or have my nails done.. nothing.

It was fun playing dress-up and trying to find a cocktail dress for the party:

dress dress2

I was obsessed with the white dress –I actually tried it on when it first came out a couple of months ago- but the price tag makes me want to pass out. I’d wear it more than once for sure, but since we needed to get an outfit for the Pilot, too, I couldn’t do it. The tan one looks cuter in the picture than it does in real life, and I know I’d probably never wear it again, so I left empty-handed.

Not without salad beast food baby, though 😉

choice

We dined at Choice for lunch, a create-your-own-salad place. In an almond shell, best idea ever 🙂

Mine had:

-romaine

-albacore tuna

-artichoke hearts

-kalamata olives

-sundried tomatoes

-Garlic vinaigrette

-chickpeas

+ a veggie soup

soup

The tastiest part of lunch was my seksi date, though <3 <—cheeseball (but true!)

pilot

Bow chicka bow wow.

So I told ya I’d share the deets with you as to why we’re going to LA for a night, so here we go!

Remember when Gatorade sent me to NY in the fall to try their new products and be trained by their celebrity trainer? (Lacey Stone, who is a rock star among rock stars)

gatorade

Well, the products launched this month, so I can finally talk about them, and they’re sending the Pilot and I to attend the launch party in LA.

gatorade

The new products are the G Fit series, and are designed to be consumed before, during and after workouts.

The first one is an energy bar, which is made with REAL ingredients (almond butter and oats are on the list!), and the most baller part is that it’s in 3 individual containers, so you can decide how much fuel you need before your workout. (For example, the Pilot would need all three energy bites and I would just need one or two)

bar

The little bars are also wrapped in a rice paper, so no more sticky bar fingers! You can remove the rice paper or eat it, it’s up to you.

The next one is an drink to be consumed during activity.

drink

Notice anything different?

It’s CLEAR. No more funny red or blue colors. The drinks are really refreshing because they contain a hint of mint, which gives a cooling effect. This is my favorite of the new line, and one that I would certainly use during a grueling spin class or Zumba fest.

Bonus: squeezy bottle and pop top – unscrewing caps during a workout isn’t that much fun (especially when you take a giant gulp and your drink ends up all over your face and shirt)

top

Post-workout drink, with electrolytes, carbs and protein

drink (2)

The only bummer is that two of the 3 products contain whey, and I don’t usually roll with cow’s dairy. I did taste all of them in New York and was pleasantly surprised not only by the tastes and flavors, but because they’re so much more natural than the traditional Gatorade products.

So that’s why we’re headed to LA! I’m really excited because it’s been awhile for me –since high school- and the Pilot has never been. I can’t wait to take paparazzi shots of the paparazzi.

Any awesome spots we need to hit up?? We’ll only be there for tomorrow and part of Wednesday, but I’m hoping to squeeze in at least one Physique 57 class, a legendary lunch tomorrow and breakfast on Wednesday.

new york 024

Tomorrow night is the launch party… a few celebs are supposed to be there 🙂 I’ll take lots and lots of pics.

Hope you guys have a lovely night and I’ll see ya from the airport!

xoxo

Gina

PS. I’m about to pull the most risky fashion move I think I’ve ever done.. I’m heading there dress-less since I didn’t find anything today and am hoping we’ll find something while we’re out tomorrow. It worked once for me before, but I’m a little horrified, haha. <—nervous laugh

Wow! I’ve never been one to reach for Gatorade product but these have sparked my attention. Have fun in La La land!

  3. Desi@ThePalatePeacemaker on April 12, 2011 at 2:20 am

Aww man, I wish you were staying in LA longer! I’d make you meet up with me to go eat yummy food! Kidding… kind of… In all seriousness though, I am CONSTANTLY discovering new restaurants here, all of which are gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, organic, local, you name it. You can’t beat California when it comes to alternative diets. 🙂

That clear gatorade is AWESOME p.s.! I might just have to try it…. Have fun and good luck finding a dress!!

  4. Madison on April 12, 2011 at 3:03 am

M Cafe de Chaya, Hugo’s, Veggie Grill, Lemonade, Joan’s on Third, Hugo’s, Earth Bar for juice, Real Food Daily. LA is your vegan/vegetarian restaurant dream! Enoy!

  5. You’re coming to my neck of the woods!
I definitely agree with Madison– M Cafe de Chaya, Lemonade, and Veggie Grill are good choices. If you go to Veggie Grill, try the Bali Bliss (tempeh) burger.
If you want a touristy place to go shopping, you can try The Grove (it’s got staples like Nordstrom), or brave the Bev Center– if you dare. That mall’s so huge, I rarely go there! The Grove also has something called The Farmer’s Market, which is an outdoor dining area– and they have vegetarian options.
    Have a blast!!

  6. Ruth on April 12, 2011 at 3:24 am

Wow, so much fun! Have a blast. You will DEFINITELY find something in LA. There is tons of shopping there. If you can, go to the outdoor mall…Its a bit of a drive from LA, but I can’t remember how far.

How awesome! I can’t wait to read all about it. That white dress really is gorgeous. Keep your eye on it, maybe there will be a future occasion that you can purchase it for! 🙂

I am so jealous that you’re going to the Physique 57 studio!!! I have the DVDs and those workouts are my favorite. Definitely keep us updated (especially on the celeb sightings!).

  12. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on April 12, 2011 at 8:03 am

WOW Gina! What a wonderful opportunity! I would love to be involved in something like that and I can’t wait to hear all about your time in LA! I think it’s great that the new products are a little more natural than before. The blue colour was always a bit off-putting to me and I used to steer clear of Gatorade and choose water instead. I think I just might have to try these new things! I hope they’re planning to bring them to Canada. Have a fabulous time and good luck with the dress – I’m sure whatever you find will look amazing on you!

  13. kristin on April 12, 2011 at 8:22 am

i just laughed out loud about you taking paparazzi shots of the paparazzi because id do the SAME THING!

  21. Beth on April 12, 2011 at 10:38 am

When I lived in LA Kings Road Cafe was my absolute favorite breakfast spot! It’s not all veg. but has great options. It’s at Beverly Blvd and N. Kings road right down from the Beverly Center. Also if you have time I’d recommend hiking Runyon Canyon. It’s a good workout and you get some amazing views! Have a great time!

  22. brittfit on April 12, 2011 at 10:45 am

can’t wait for the review! Loving the salad btw 😉

  30. jenna{frombostonwithlove} on April 12, 2011 at 11:19 am

Love the white dress, too and I dislike price tags.

The gatorade products look and sound really interesting and definitely different from their typical products. Will have to give them a try.

    Have fun in LA!

  31. Amelia on April 12, 2011 at 11:29 am

  32. Rhoni on April 12, 2011 at 11:33 am

Just throwing this out there..but I liked the tan one better! It looked gorgeous on you! Too bad you didn’t buy it – you should definitely go back for it and find some other reason to wear it. 🙂

Good luck and have a blast in LA! Sounds like a fun and exciting time! 🙂

  33. Tanya on April 12, 2011 at 11:59 am

I think the tan dress is super cute! Bummer it looks cuter in the pic, though. Also, that salad beast looks delish! I’m jealous.

    Good luck dress hunting!

  34. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on April 12, 2011 at 12:07 pm

I don’t ever really drink sports drinks but those products actually sound pretty good! I’ll definitely have to give them a try.

Have fun in LA! I can’t wait to read all about it and live vicariously through you. 😀

Two words for shopping in LA: Fred Segal

  36. Trina on April 12, 2011 at 12:11 pm

The tan dress looked better. You should have rocked that one.

  37. Haleigh on April 12, 2011 at 12:23 pm

Oh, that is going to be so much fun! I’ve never been to LA before, so I’m looking forward to your upcoming posts. Both outfits look fab on you, but I prefer the white one 🙂

  38. Teresa on April 12, 2011 at 1:06 pm

If you’re still here Wednesday morning, you’ve got to go to the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market. It’s legendary and it’s the best! It’s sort of near the pier, on 2nd and Arizona (3rd street Promenade). Also, Cafe Gratitude finally opened in LA, and even though I haven’t made it there yet, I really want to go and thought you might want to check it out! If you have any questions, I live here in Santa Monica, so feel free to email me! Have fun!

  39. Sarah K on April 12, 2011 at 1:10 pm

Good luck finding a dress! I really like that white one. Can’t wait to try the G Fit products, looks like something right up my alley.

  40. Leslie on April 12, 2011 at 1:14 pm

Sounds like an amazing trip! Have fun and tell us all about it!!!

  41. Emily on April 12, 2011 at 1:46 pm

Very cool! I like the idea of breaking up the energy bar.

If you come out to Santa Monica (my hood!), Real Food Daily and RAWvolution are worth checking out. The Wednesday morning farmers’ market here is legendary. And, I really love Better Life Cuisine; it’s a tiny, inexpensive raw vegan restaurant that serves huge portions and ridiculous desserts!

    • Teresa on April 12, 2011 at 4:35 pm

Yes! I second that Better Life Cuisine is a special find!

  42. Jen Correa on April 12, 2011 at 2:22 pm

    I love the 1 shoulder dress 🙂

  43. Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life on April 12, 2011 at 2:50 pm

How FUN!! I can’t wait to hear all about it and see your paparazzi photos! 😉

  44. jackie on April 12, 2011 at 3:57 pm

I live in Santa Monica and if you’re interested in an AMAZING beach workout, head to Manhattan Beach at 7pm on Wednesday…my friend carla teaches it! www{dot}carlaraefit{dot}com. She’s great! I can also second Emily’s recommendation on RAWolution and the Farmer’s Market!

  45. Whitney "To Live and Diet in L.A." on April 12, 2011 at 5:12 pm

You must go to Toast on 3rd and Crescent Heights for Breakfast or Lunch in Weho. It’s quintessential L.A. (fabulous, healthy, and a great spot to people watch). And definitely take Physique 57. I loved it. Here’s the review I did a few months ago: Beverly Hills Class Sets the Barre Wish you were here for longer so I could meet you and swap Tucson stories (I’m a native)!

  46. Jessica on April 12, 2011 at 6:39 pm

Fun! I’ve never been to a Physique 57 class, but I do take Pure Barre classes here in Atlanta, which is the same concept! I think they have studios in AZ, you should try it out! I’m obsessed!

  47. Katie on April 12, 2011 at 10:50 pm

I just tried on that tan dress last weekend! Weird! It looks much better on you, it looked horrible on me.

Hope you guys have a ton of fun at the launch party and in LA!

  48. sandy on April 12, 2011 at 11:11 pm

L.A. my home! yes RFD is my absolute fave! also if you get a chance to make it to Santa Monica check out Juliano’s (Planet Raw) 6th & Broadway, walk/shop/people watch on the promenade too, hit up the beach a few blocks down..

  49. sandy on April 12, 2011 at 11:24 pm

oh and you have to go to the santa monica farmer’s market, much better than the Grove one! you will be in gourmet goods heaven:) they have one on wednesday morning at Arizona and 2nd you won’t believe your eyes!
