Impulse Buyer

Hey everyone! Howโ€™s your day going?

Mine has been pretty good- itโ€™s RAINY today! I lurve it ๐Ÿ™‚ I especially lurve it because I havenโ€™t watered my herbs since last fall and magically some are still alive- Iโ€™m going to re-plant after our tropical vacay. Thank you for all of the vacation tips!

This afternoon, I snacked on some of the usual suspects:

smoothie

A smoothie, minus the glass straw since theyโ€™re both in the dishwasher.

Fruit bowl:

fruit

Apple, banana, strawberries and cinnamon

and I picked up this lovely impulse buy while I was at Targizzle buying other stuff I donโ€™t need laundry detergent.

Organic mascara ๐Ÿ™‚

My cousin sent me a text saying โ€œhave you seen this mascara yet? Itโ€™s organic and has a LEAF on the end!โ€ and when I told her I was in Target, I just went ahead and bought it. Destiny, right there. Iโ€™ll let yaโ€™ll know what I think ๐Ÿ™‚ Have you picked up any fun new beauty products lately??

Well Iโ€™m off to train clients and then coming home for dinner and GLEE!

Have a great night <3

Gina

Something to talk about: I had a fun conversation earlier with some tweeps about meeting people in unexpected places. As yaโ€™ll know, I met the pilot at Starbucks, and while I was doing some computer work there today, I tweeted:

How did you meet your significant other?? I love fun, romantic and weird dating stories ๐Ÿ™‚ If youโ€™re unattached, have you ever met a boyfriend or girlfriend somewhere unexpected?

I am the W O R S T Impulse “Targizzle” buyer on earth….I can not go in that place….I buy everything that I “don’t need”–I need a support group or something. Oye.

My hubby meeting story isn’t too interesting…but when I JUST started working as Trainer (I was 21), and clients were scarce, I happened to take a part-time hosting job at Outback Steakhouse (irony, I was a vegetarian, never ever stepped foot in the place, never ate there, etc)–met a chica (not from around “here” that went to school out of the way from that particular restaurant, yet got a job there, it was bizarre)–& she seemed absolutely PERFECT for my hubby’s (then boyfriend)’s close friend, that I adored (who’s mother was also one of my first clients, and still to this day).. She and I became fast friends, and I set up a blind date (she was very trusting even tho she barely knew me) b/twn her & Dave, they hit it off BIG TIME (like talked for 4 hrs, on a “double date” but paid zero attention to us)

…she was leaving to study abroad in Italy for 6 months; broke it off with him, I lost touch, he lost touch, yet was totally broken hearted when she left ๐Ÿ™

…long story short 2 yrs later they ran into each other (randomly)…and now– 6 yrs later I was JUST the Matron of Honor in their wedding!! My “love” story’s not that s”fairytale-ish”, but at least I was part of their romantic story! Haha

Starbucks (nice, Gina & the “Pilot”!) or Barnes and Noble….even Whole Foods (if they have a cafe,) are all GREAT spots to meet smart or healthy cuties for all yah single ladies ๐Ÿ˜‰ That or walk the aisles of Home Depot for some rugged, handy men ๐Ÿ˜‰

I met my live-in boyfriend almost three years ago, on the first day of our graduate school careers (we got M.A.s in U.S. History together). I had just moved to Chicago and was still in a (bad) relationship, so meeting a guy was not on my agenda. He sat down next to me before class started and I instantly thought he was cute before trying to shove those thoughts from my head. He and I were best friends for over a year before he worked up the nerve to tell me about his feelings (through the longest most romantic email I have ever received). I told him I needed to think about things for a bit (still working out the bad relationship), but within a month we were together. Best thing in life.
My advice is twofold: (1) never stay in a bad relationship–you’re only keeping yourself from being happy; (2) grad school is a good place to meet smart cuties.

I met my husband online! A website called fitness singles. We just got married April 18th, 2010 (2 1/2 years together) and after 2 weeks of writing letters while he was in Iraq, (back in 2007) we professed our love. We met 2 months later (December 2007) while he was on leave and we embraced, he grabbed my hand and it was like we have been together forever! Our family and friends thought we were crazy!!! This is a second marriage for me and he has embraced my 3 kids like his own. (a first marriage for him) =)
The blessing is that he now has a job in D.C. (still in Reserves on stability and getting out in 2011)and I get to see him everyday. At age 40, I found the man of my dreams!!

  5. Kelly on May 4, 2010 at 6:16 pm

Ps. I also entered my story/pictures into the MORE magazine over age 40 beauty contest!

I met my last boyfriend in a college sociology class. We sat by each for a good two months without speaking until I finally broke the ice. We had a test and I sat down and said..”Did you study?” Things just took off from there!

my husband and i are in the air force (and seperated by 2300 miles until who knows when because of it) but he was in my brother flight in basic training, we met on the bus on the way to our next training base! we chatted awhile and were so bummed when we found out we would be in different squadrons in tech school! (hey, we didnt know yet that wed be able to hang out) we developed major crushes during in-processing, and started dating not long after. (he held my hand while we played the game of life with a friend from my flight that was also there. it was so cute.) he kissed me the first time in the chow hall at dinner before we left on christmas break! the moment we got back, we started dating. weve been separated for almost a year, and have only seen each other a few times (one of which, we got married!) soon, we get to meet up in las vegas for our “vacany-moon” (vacation+honeymoon, of course). hes an amazing man!

  8. Fallon on May 4, 2010 at 6:25 pm

    Great question!

My story feels like a movie. I can’t believe it actually happened. I was in college and decided to just focus on school and forget about dating and just worry about myself. I had some bad ex-b/fs and was just over it! Best friend wedding coming around and I’m a bridesmaid. Turns out I fell in love with a groomsman that I was paired to walk down the isle with. There is way more to this story but that kind of how it went. He is in the army and knew he’d be getting deployed in a year, so he wasn’t looking for love. We both found love when we least expected it. Now he will be home any day this week for Iraq. We have had a long distance relationship ever since we met. It will be 2 years in July and we are both crazy for each other like no tomorrow!

I met my SO in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven. Not romantic, a little scary, and very atypical of me. We were parked side by side and I was getting into my car and he was getting out of his. I’m a shy girl and also paranoid, so I never, ever, ever, ever, ever talk with complete strangers outside of any context (i.e. obviously I would talk to new people I’m meeting at a particular place or event).

But for some reason I felt like I was meeting an old friend. An old BEST friend. I was compelled to talk to him, took his number, called, and have been talking to him every day since, especially after we moved in together over two years ago!

  10. Jennifer on May 4, 2010 at 6:39 pm

I moved back home last summer after graduating college and my piano teacher, who’s taught me from the age of 6, told me I must go on a date with her best friend’s son. She described him as “short, Tango dances all the time, and mediocre-looking.”

Not a shining recommendation. I had just stopped talking to my ex-boyfriend and was definitely not in the mood so I wanted to say no. But it’s real hard to say no to someone who’s like a second mother to me. I went.

And he turned out to be a super cute, 5’11”, unbelievably nice, ex-Army Ranger sweetheart (who was taking Tango lessons so he could impress girls.)

We went to Costa Rica for a month in December and moved in together in January. And he got me a kitten who I named Miaosie. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. BroccoliHut on May 4, 2010 at 6:41 pm

I met my boyfriend–as lame as it sounds–at the gym. We ran side-by-side on treadmills for 3 months before he got up the guts to talk to me;)

I met my husband at a music store – we both worked there! It was just like a movie, just a bunch of young 20-somethings working together, and some of the best memories ever! Now he’s quite the businessman, but in my heart he will always be that 19 year old with long hair and the black Wherehouse Music t-shirt. I can’t believe that was almost 10 years ago!

  14. Sarah on May 4, 2010 at 6:52 pm

Fun! I met my husband…well, I can’t remember the first time I met him. Just that he was my best friend’s older brother who used to tease the life out of me (I was really quiet in my younger years…still am pretty quiet), and I didn’t even realize our first date WAS a date lol. I had called to see if his sister’s dance performance was sold out. He told me it was and that we should just go see a movie instead. Four years later we were married and life is grand. It’s funny how life can unfold itself to us in the most unexpected ways. Love it ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Kristina on May 4, 2010 at 6:54 pm

we *LOVE* telling our story: Jason and I met years ago when I was managing an apartment building and he contacted me as a potential renter! he knew sight unseen that he wanted it — he had seen photos (beautiful 1920 vintage walkup). what was normally a 20 minute meeting AT MOST turned into 4 HOURS of us talking talking talking! I saw him at an event 2 days later, he moved in to the building the week after… a few weeks later I Asked Him Out on our first date!! …we’ve been together ever since… ๐Ÿ™‚

oh and Target is my favorite impulse shop ! ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. elliebelle on May 4, 2010 at 6:58 pm

I met my boyfriend at his parent’s restaurant where he happened to be bartending, filling in for his parents while they were on vacation. I came in with a group of people from the local community theater where I was helping with costumes. Turns out everyone in the theater group loved the restaurant (and I had a crush on the bartender!) so we went back multiple times that week and, finally, the last night I got up the nerve to talk to him and we eventually closed down the bar, and slow danced in the empty bar/restaurant after everyone had left! In July we will have been together 3 years!

  17. Bethany (Not Unless I'm Being Chased) on May 4, 2010 at 6:59 pm

I met my husband in Spain while we were both studying abroad our senior years of college. Once we finally got together, we realized that over the previous 4 years, we had taken three classes together, lived in the same dorm, the same apartment complex, had worked at the same amusement park in the same area (kiddie land) and he had dated a girl I knew as a friend of a friend. That’s seven opportunities to meet — but it never happened.
We decided fate got sick of us screwing around and decided the only way we were going to meet was to be in a foreign country 3000 miles away from home.
    Bingo.

  18. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on May 4, 2010 at 7:10 pm

I met my boyfriend at his house- except not intentionally. In September 2008 I hosted a birthday party for my best friend Danielle at our friend Ericโ€™s house. Nick happened to be Ericโ€™s roommate, and although Eric is my best guy friend, somehow in 3 years of living together I had only met Nick once in passing. I came in early to set up for the party, started chatting with Nick, we hit it off, and we have been dating almost two years now!

Im confused about something you’ve written in the past, something along the lines of weight is just a silly number etc…..Im on a weight loss journey and Im not sure why the number is not a great gauge of the work one puts in…is there an older blog of yours that I can refer to that explains that concept because Im very curious…Thanks!!

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2010 at 10:36 pm

      hey andrea!
body fat percent is a better gauge than weight, because muscle weighs more than fat. so very fit people can actually weigh more because they have more muscle and weigh less and not be as fit or healthy when they have a higher body fat percent http://fitnessista.com/2010/04/date-with-the-bod-pod/

I met my love about 12 years ago online. We dated about 8 years ago while I was in my undergrad but it did not last very long at all because of the long distance. The boy and I met four and a half years ago when a friend of mine and I decided to go out for dinner during first year university instead of eating at the crappy cafeteria again. On our way back, we rented a movie and a guy she was interested in called her, she invited him over and I asked her to invite someone else over just so I could talk to them so I wouldn’t feel awkward while she did whatever with this guy she liked.

She ended up inviting over the boy and I decided I liked him as soon as he walked through the door…

The best part is? I ended up with the boy, but the guy she liked was completely uninterested in her.
