Multitasking + 9 killer kettlebell moves
Hi friends! How’s the day going? Don’t forget to enter our Skyscapes giveaway each day this week!
Whenever I get asked for productivity tips -especially more now that I have a little one to chase after- I share some words of wisdom that Bex was kind to bestow upon me:
STOP MULTITASKING.
(Source)
I have so many ideas and things I want to do, but I’d get a little “SQUIRREL!” (<— distracted) and find myself trying to do too many things at once. I quickly learned that by multitasking, I wasn’t really getting anything done. Now I focus on one thing at a time before moving onto the next -it was the only way I could finish the book by the deadline!- and it has helped tremendously. I have a list for each day of the things that NEED to be accomplished, things that are moderate on the priority scale, and things that can wait. I minimize multitasking, unless it’s when it’s at a time that it could come in handy…. like this morning.
Multitasking at its finest:
I have a project I’m in the midst of finishing and also wanted to get in a little cardio to complement today’s barre training, so I propped my laptop on the spin bike.
It could have been catastrophic, but ended up a successful endeavor 😉
Here’s what I’m working on:
We’re in the middle of a website revamp, and the main goal is to make the blog easy to navigate and to find things after they’re published. The fitness section is going to be organized into muscle group and type of workout, and the recipe page will be categorized for each type of dish and meal component. I work hard to make awesome content for you guys, and it’s a bummer that once I publish it, it seems to disappear into thin air and is difficult (even for me!) to find again, unless I consult the Googles. The goal for the revamp is to remedy all of this and make the blog much easier to use and navigate, so I’ve been working on organizing 3,700 posts. It will all be worth it in a few weeks!
You’ll be able to click “Fitness” and then “Kettlebell workouts” and something like this will pop up:
I made that little guide because I was thinking about how intimidating kettlebells once were for me! When I first experimented with them, I thought you could just switch them out for dumbbells, but it isn’t really the case. The center of gravity is altered, so they have unique uses and exercises. Thankfully, while I taught at the resort I was able to take a kettlebell workshop so I could teach the kettlebell class, and learned a lot of awesome moves. Some of my very favorites are above!
Kettlebells are also the KING of multitasking exercise equipment. You use one and chances are that your core muscles will be challenged in addition to the muscle group you’re working.
(10) Hold it and smile like a goober?)
A little tip: don’t be afraid to ask for help at your gym if you’d like to experiment with kettlebells. A certified trainer on staff should be happy to show you some new moves and make sure you’re executing them safely.
What’s your best tip for productivity?
Any kettlebell moves you love?
Hope you enjoy the rest of your day!
xoxo

kettle bells are super intimidating for me. Thank you so much for sharing this. Now I will actually feel like I know what I am doing with them 🙂
I can’t wait to see the site revamp! I’m sure it will be gorgeous. 🙂
Thank you for this kettle ball workout! I don’t have a ton of experience with the kettle ball, but one my mama boot camp teacher loves the kettle ball and she looks great! I can’t wait to try it!
I am going through a redesign for my site right now. It’s a lot of work! I know what you mean about all your posts going into netherland. That’s been part of my issue with my redesign, figuring out how to best categorize everything.
Our gym just got a set of kettle bells in, and I’ve been giving them the side eye every time I go. All I know is how to do swings, so this is great I can do a “real” workout and make it look like I know what I’m doing!
One of the moves you didn’t mention that I love to do with a kettlebell is turkish sit-ups. The only downside is my dog runs around me shoving her face in my way. I think she thinks “I’ve fallen & I can’t up”, haha!
i was going to take a pic of those and totally spaced it haha
great exercise!
I can’t wait to see the blog updates!! 🙂 🙂
I LOVE kettlebells! They have been giving me great results, and make me feel really tough! I think I need to move up a weight for my single armed swings now too, hooray!
i love kettle bells snatches!
I LOVE working out with kettlebells! Never thought of just walking with one before.
I love kettle bells and prefer them over dumbbells. They are so great for arm toning! The kettle bell swing is my favorite move!
Love kettle bells! Look forward to incorporating some of these!
Whoops. I’ve been doing your Sage Dance Fitness tabata routine (with the kettlebell swings) with my heaviest dumbell because I don’t have a kettlebell! Let me tell you, it’s still a great workout, though! But this post has convinced me that maybe I should get the real thing… Also, I love your “smile like a goober” photo. It looks like you really love your kettlebell! 😉
I am definitely guilty of multitasking too much! There are always a million things running through my brain!…I need to learn to slow it down and focus. 🙂
i absolutely love your blog (i read it everyday) and am so excited for the revamp! I just have one suggestion – in doing the revamp would you be able to make it so a new screen pops up when you have different links on your page, i like being able to stay on your page to finish what i’m reading but also want to be able to click the various links that you post. i hope that made sense and just a little suggestion!
Me too! Great idea. I’d forgotten that one!
Yay! I can’t wait for the site revamp! I love your blog and can’t wait to navigate it easier.
That is honestly great advice – I tend towards always being busy, always trying to do like 5 things at once, and I have realized recently that not only does it mean things often don’t get done as well (or at all) but that = mucho more stress. I read a quote I liked the other day that I’m trying to remember in action more – “Once she stopped rushing through life, she was surprised how much more life she had time for.”
Oh this is so helpful! I have a 30 lb KB I just do swings with. I should get a 15 for all the other exercises!
I love kettle bells! can’t wait to throw this into Summer Shape-Up! 🙂
I love kettlebells! Gobbler Squats and KB Snatches are my faves!
Thanks for this! I never know what to do with my kettlebell. I will def be doing this tonight 🙂
Love these moves! Kettlebells are so versatile!
Any suggestions for what weight to use? This looks like a great workout! 🙂 I’m thinking 5 lbs or 10 lbs. ?
WOOT! I’ve been looking for a KBell post and I love this one! One question: how would you assemble these in to a workout? Would you do a set of each as a circuit? (So maybe 12-15 or each (or per side) and then the next one?) Or pick which ones to add to other types of workout?
Thanks G! Also, I seconded the recommendation further up. I love to go read from your Friday Faves links for example but am bummed when your page is replaced by the link content. Opening another tab instead when we click on the links you post would be excellent!
you could totally use these as a circuit! 🙂
i will definitely ask her to make the links open another tab. thank you!
Looking forward to the revamp! Sometimes the only way I can stay on track is to make a weighted list on paper. If I put it in my phone, I’m too distracted by other apps! Plus I like to physically cross things off when they’re done 🙂
Ahh I’m so excited to see your site re-design! I’m really struggling on the productivity front. My desk is a mess. My house is a mess. I need to get it together and get organized.
I’ve been taking KettleWorx (30 mins of kettlebell classes) for the past 6 months and it has completely transformed my body! We do all these moves + a lot more! One great move we do is renegade rows – where you balance one hand on the kettlebell and row a kettlebell with the other arm (obviously you could do this balancing on the floor if you only had one kettlebell). In the core class, we do a lot of yoga poses, too….we hold a chair or tree pose with the kettlebell overhead. Swings are my favorite – a total body workout!! I have really noticed a positive change in my core strength – especially when we take the weight overhead, you constantly have to work on keeping your balance and keeping your body square. I love me some kettles!
Hehe at “the Googles”. I just love you! Great tips for multi-tasking and kettlebell swinging! It’s so true, When I find myself trying to do twenty things at once, none of those things turns out the best it can. “Never half-ass two things, whole-ass one thing.” I like it! 🙂
Good luck with the blog revamp! Sounds like a daunting task for sure. It will be much appreciated by all your readers though!!! Thanks for working so hard on it 🙂
I agree! Multi-tasking can work against you but the best time to multitask is in the gym. Whenever i’m on the tread i’m working out while reading my emails, checking the skimm, and (i’ll admit) online shopping!
Well, now I’ve been convinced that I need to invest in some kettlebells! Hoping to build up my home exercise repertoire 🙂
My favorite kettlebell exercises are compound like – swing, squat, snatch, press (repeat on other side, for reps).
Yes–I love and hate multitasking. I need to get better at focusing my energy, but I have so much going on and so much that I want to do right now that I can get “squirrel” and lose focus and not get anything done, which is super frustrating. I have recently started doing a kettlebell class once a week and love it!! Great total body workout 🙂
Thank you! I have found to hard to find things I knew I had read before but felt greedy asking as you already do so much for us! I am a happy girl! Xxxx
I’m in the midst of a redesign right now. So much work and I don’t think I have nearly as many posts as you!
Thank you for the kettle bell workout. I just bought a bell this week so this was perfect timing!
Loving the new re-design!! Very excited for the “sneaky giveaway”!!
Love the redesign. It’s always nice to change the look of things. I do have to say though, the one thing I miss was how I could go to your recipe page and quickly find something such as protein pancakes or amaze balls. It is a little overwhelming to scroll through all the blog entry titles and guess as to what recipe the post may be.
Excited for your book to come out!!
Love the new look! (and sneaky giveaways!)
The redesign looks great!! 🙂
Sneaky giveaway time 🙂
I love the new look!

I would love the Under Armor Heart Rate Monitor, I have been in the market for one for some time. You August workout calendar looks great.
Sneaky giveaways are such a great idea! Love it!
Love the blog revamp! I know that I already commented on today’s post about it but it’s so stylish organized! Thank you for the super generous giveaway!
The new site looks gorgeous ! Love the pink/ pastel. Very on trend.
