Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED
I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.
Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:
and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.
A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.
I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย
The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.
It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:
A BodyMedia Fit device.
So what is it?
A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.
Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:
You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).
Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.
BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)
or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).
This giveaway has ended!
Congratulations to the lucky winner:
(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)
Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)
Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐
Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.
xoxo

My current fitness goal is to just get to the gym 3x a week. Having a 2 month old, 2 year old and 4 year old makes that really hard unless I’m super prepared.
Already a fb fan!
My fitness goal is to get to the gym at least three times a week.
I am a fan on FB!
My fitness goal is to increase strength and endurance. I recently lost some weight (due to stress) and need to build up my strength and endurance to keep me going through my workouts!
This giveaway intrigues me. Having 3 small children I would love to wear it when working out but also when I am home with them to see how my daily activities with them have helped me reach my fitness goal of a stronger core (picking them up post 3rd c-section is a challenge at times). Scheduled work outs are difficult so somthing that tracks my trip to the park, walks through the neighborhood, and hours of bouncing and walking my 6 month old would be awsome!!

I have the same goal that you do– in never seems to change! Increase lean body mass ๐
my current goal is to drop some body fat. I’ve gone overboard the past few months with eating and drinking, and no exercise program fixes that! I actually just started tracy anderson’s metaphmorphsis program (don’t worry– not doing the food plan!), and have seen results already. And its been nice to shake up my exercise routine with something new!
and im already a fan on facebook! ๐
And I already liked you on facebook ๐
My current fitness goal is to cross the line of my first half marathon next Sunday!!! I already follow you on facebook! ๐
I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and I love it!
My current goal is to get leaner, work on upper body strength, and run faster!
My goals are to get stronger, faster better. I recently started taking fitness classes and would love the arm

my current goal is to be active daily. i can’t get to the gym but i would like to do an at home workout, dvd, walk, jog, etc. every day. it helps improve my mood which helps me be a better wife & mom.
thanks gina!
I have been using the BMF (previously known as GoWear Fit) for several years, and I really love the feedback that I get from it. I used it to successfully lose almost 20 lb. I still use it to monitor how hard I’m going during workouts, and to track food intake.
Currently, I’m trying to incorporate a more varied workout routine- specifically, trying a “new to me” workout at least 1x a month. Trying to keep things fresh and interesting ๐

I have thyroid issues that make my metabolism really slow, so my goal right now is to just stay consistent with my workouts to keep it fired up and hopefully reduce my overall body fat. ๐ Already a FB fan!
And I follow you on facebook! love seeing the motivation on my wall every day ๐
Current fitness goal: lose 25 pounds. Not just lose the weight but become really fit and bad*ss when it’s gone. I’ve upped my fitness classes to boxing and personal training and I’ve seen a huge difference in my abilities- I’m monitoring my food intake at myfitnesspal.com and it’s been a great success so far- just got to keep going!
My current fitness goal is to train hard for my very first marathon. I recently ran a half and can’t believe that I’m going to run a full!
I want to also like to be more lean. especially before the holidays hit when there are a few more parties to go to.
I’m also a fan on facebook!
My current fitness goal is to lose 40 pounds and tone up. I’ve been overweight my whole life and I want to change that now.
I am also a fan of yours on Facebook already ๐
oh, yeah – I’m also already a facebook follower:)
My fitness goal is to sign up for my first 5k and start training for a 10k
My goal is to work on my butt and thighs. I really want that lean, toned look in my jeans!
My husband is currently deployed and returning in February, so my current fitness goal is to be in better shape than when he left so I can just knock his socks off when he sees me for the first time in about 10 months!! ๐ I have signed up for Kosama and have been tracking my food through MyFitnessPal!

My fitness goal is to train for the L.A. Marathon, this is my FIRST marathon and I am anxious, excited, and overwhelmed by all the training. BUT I am looking forward to the training and seeing if I can turn my attitude toward running a more positive experience! I am not a “runner” but look forward to the challenge!
Im a devoted follower ๐ My main fitness goal right now is training for my first 5k run in November…getting in about 5 days of training a week, making my eating as clean as possible.
I also have already liked you on facebook!!
I have been looking at this for a while. Looks like a great tool to keep me on track. My fitness goal is to get back to running.
My fitness goal is to get back to the routine is to cut down some body fat and to get back in the swing of going to the gym regularly. I was on a great schedule before my wedding and now, almost 4 months later – it’s been a little more difficult waking up at 5:50 a.m. everyday….
Current fitness goal: to continue to gain strength as I lose the last 10-15 pounds to reach my weight goal.
I’m already a fan on facebook ๐
My current goal is to regain my core strength. Having a baby kicked my core’s behind. I’ve also noticed back issues I’ve never had before and I’m sure it is related to my noodle core. Core is so so very important so it is a daily goal I constantly remind myself to engage, even when not working out.
My current goal is to get back into a regular fitness routine! I’ve been traveling and moving around a lot and its made it difficult to stay on any sort of schedule, but I’m working on it.

Oh, and I’m totally a facebook fan! <3
Things have been a little crazy this past month and I’ve unfortunately let my workouts fall to the wasteside. So my fitness goal is to get back on track with strenght training 3 days a week and running/walking w/ my 8 month old 3 days a week.
Already a FB fan!
My fitness goal is to fit in 4 quality workouts per week, and spend more time in active recovery. This is my first year as a personal trainer and fitness instructor, so balancing workouts with teaching, not overdoing it, and finding the energy to push myself after a long day of training others can be tricky! I am trying to focus on quality and not stress about quantity.
Thanks for your blog, it motivates me daily!!!!

My current goal is to train for a half marathon. I plan on signing up for one next spring, so I need to keep motivated through the winter!
Current fitness goal is to run a half marathon in February (and I am NOT a runner, so this is a lofty one)! I am also already a fan on facebook!
My current fitness goal is to maintain exercising 3 times a week, and walk 3 miles a day 3 times a week. I find I normally do loads in a week and then slack for a week, so I’m trying to find a good balance that’s easier to adhere to!
Absolutely love this website Gina, keep up the amazing work. x
My goal right now is to increase lean body mass too! I got down to my goal weight in the spring and realized it didn’t look how I had hoped so I decided that I needed to put on some muscle to get the more balanced and toned look I wanted. I’m a first year medical student too so it’s really important that my workouts are quick and effective!
My current fitness goal is to squeeze in extra movement throughout the day. I work full time and go to law school at night so fitting in a large chunk of exercise time is unrealistic most days. But between breaks, lunch breaks, and other random times I am trying to increase my movement to realize some weight loss goals. The bodymedia device would be SUCH an awesome way to help me down the path to this goal!
I, too, want to increase lean body mass. Most people don’t understand how important strength training actually is! And, I am already a fan of yours on facebook! ๐
Hi there! I love your blog! Such an inspiration every day for me.
My current goal is to tone up! I’ve lost about 25 lbs & I need to tighten the areas that I’ve lost weight significantly in ( sadly ๐ – my butt, arms & abs) I also need to stay on track with my calorie intake to tone up, and become stronger!
My goal has never been to loose a certain number of lbs. but to just be stronger & leaner. I’m almost there! This gadget seems amazing to help with all of that!
Good luck everyone ๐ !!
