Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED

I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.

Run

Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:

P39089BSource

and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.

A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.

I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย

The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.

It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:

A BodyMedia Fit device.

So what is it?

A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.

Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:

Bodymedia

You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).

Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.

BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.

One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)

Wireless

or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).

Core

This giveaway has ended!

Congratulations to the lucky winner:

(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)

Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)

Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.

xoxo

I have been working out and eating right, but I just want to look leaner and making sure I am consuming the enough clories. Right now I dont think I am. This could help me with the guessing.

My fitness goal is to lose the last few pounds so all the muscle tone I’ve gained from TurboFire will be more prominent!

  8. Maggie on October 4, 2012 at 1:41 pm

My current fitness goal is to be able to do real push-ups during the duration of my kickboxing class. I was pretty close to almost always staying off my knees at the beginning of the year, but then I hurt my rest, couldn’t workout, and had to have surgery. I’d say I’m back to real push-ups for about 40% of the class, but I want to be at 100%!

  9. kim on October 4, 2012 at 1:41 pm

  12. Heather on October 4, 2012 at 1:42 pm

While I always am working on running faster, ultimately I’d like to work on more muscle definition like you are! I loved the arm burner today.

My fitness goal is to improve my overall strength and gain back my endurance for strength training that I had before having a baby 6 months ago!

  16. Colleen L on October 4, 2012 at 1:42 pm

I’d like to commit to getting to the gym 3 days a week. I usually start strong and then taper off after a couple of weeks and I’d like to change that.

  17. JennP on October 4, 2012 at 1:43 pm

I just had my second baby 6 weeks ago. I am pleased to be back at my pre-pregnancy weight, but I definitely have some all over toning and firming up to do! My two goals would be to build my endurance back up to what it used to be for some nice Autumn evening runs and find time in my schedule for strength training. I wasn’t able to exercise the two months before delivery and then had a c-section, so I am itching to get back at it!!!

  18. Megan on October 4, 2012 at 1:43 pm

My fitness goal is to run a half marathon this year!

  23. AnneW on October 4, 2012 at 1:44 pm

  24. Sara on October 4, 2012 at 1:45 pm

  26. Katheryn on October 4, 2012 at 1:45 pm

  27. AmyW on October 4, 2012 at 1:45 pm

My goal is to increase muscle, decrease fat!:) I will continue to do what I have been doing (just making sure I get my workouts in) which is lifting heavy, HIIT, Tabata, crossfit, and some strong man type training. Love it all!

  28. Carrie on October 4, 2012 at 1:45 pm

I would love to give this a try. Right up my alley.

  29. alicia on October 4, 2012 at 1:46 pm

My current fitness goal is to simply find my motivation! After losing 20 pounds two years ago, I have been on and off the wagon too many times. I’m ready to get back on the saddle and make my life and my family’s lives healthier. This time of year is really hard for me to resist loads of goodies.

  30. Lindsay @ LindsayInNYC on October 4, 2012 at 1:47 pm

I’m trying to get my Pilates core strength back! Man I missed it ๐Ÿ™‚

  31. Amber on October 4, 2012 at 1:47 pm

Eat more veggies! Since school started back up, my eating habits have been downright AWFUL.

  32. Jolene J. on October 4, 2012 at 1:48 pm

My fitness goal is to gain more muscle and over all just live a healthy lifestyle. I want a body that can do more than just sit around and watch tv. We were made to move and that is my intention, to use the body for what it was made for! ๐Ÿ™‚

  33. Molly@This Life Is Sparkling on October 4, 2012 at 1:48 pm

My current fitness goal is to improve on strength training (add more to my workout routine) and continue building up my running endurance.

  34. Lindsay @ LindsayInNYC on October 4, 2012 at 1:48 pm

And obviously I follow you on FB!

  35. Jenny on October 4, 2012 at 1:49 pm

My goal is to get back to a more universal body fitness. I’ve been running to train for a relay and a half-marathon so my stamina is up adn my legs are strong. But lack of enough time means I’ve been skipping yoga and weight training for the last 5 months and I can tell in my waist, arms, and energy levels!

  36. Kellie on October 4, 2012 at 1:49 pm

I want to be lean, fit and healthy. I need to keep up eating clean as I am trying to do now.

  37. Megan S. on October 4, 2012 at 1:49 pm

My fitness goal is to lose my “pooch” and get more lean! I’d love to have this as a tool to help me out

Fitness goal – increase my strength and find a nice blend of lifting and cardio for workouts that suit my body needs. I generally find if I lift heavy weights, I’m not getting enough cardio. vice versa, too much cardio and I’m too pooped to lift weights. I’m slowly iterating on this and I think I’m getting close to a good fit. I love the workouts on your blog though, they are creative. I usually steal a few moves and fit them into my workout each time ๐Ÿ™‚

  41. Christina on October 4, 2012 at 1:51 pm

Oh my goodness, I’ve been wanting one of these!!!! I don’t own any sort of heart rate monitor/calorie counter, and I think it would be a life saver for me right now. My goal- lose the last stubborn 15 pounds. I’m struggling with depression, and it’s making it really difficult to lose weight. I’ve gained 6 pounds in the last month, even though I exercise 5-6 days a week, and am counting calories. Maybe the BodyMedia armband would show me where my problem is. Maybe I’m not burning as many calories during the day as I think?? Thanks for doing such a great giveaway!!

  42. Samantha on October 4, 2012 at 1:54 pm

My fitness goal is to lose 3% body fat before the end of 2012 and the body fit media would be an awesome tool to use.

  43. Kim on October 4, 2012 at 1:54 pm

Hey Gina! My goal is to lose fat and gain lean muscle. I’m looking to trim down at least 20lbs, from 146 to about 125. LOVE fitnessista!!!! xo

  44. Natalia on October 4, 2012 at 1:54 pm

Goal: Lose body fat and gain lean muscle definition, but mainly BE HEALTHY! I’ve been diagnosed with PCOS and although I’m considered thin it can’t hurt to lose any extra fat in hopes of getting pregnant. This gadget would help keep me on track.

My fitness goal is to workout 6 times per week. Right now I’m struggling with consistency & routine.

  48. Suzanne on October 4, 2012 at 1:57 pm

my current fitness goal: To lose weight, increase muscle strength/tone, and improve my cardio capacity. Technically, that’s three – but I’m considering one GIANT goal.

  49. alison j on October 4, 2012 at 1:57 pm

My goal is to be able to run five miles (kinda) easily. I cycle a lot, but running has always been a struggle for me!

I would also love to lose about 10lbs. The 10 i put on after college. This would help so much!
