Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED

I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.

Run

Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:

P39089BSource

and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.

A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.

Run w liv

I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย

The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.

It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:

A BodyMedia Fit device.

So what is it?

A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.

Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:

Bodymedia

You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).

Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.

BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.

One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)

Wireless

or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).

Core

This giveaway has ended!

Congratulations to the lucky winner:

(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)

Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)

Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.

xoxo

My current fitness goal is to tone all areas of my body! I’m five months postpartum now, but still quite jiggly. Would love to have more definition… everywhere.

My current fitness goal is to drop some body fat, for both my general health (and for my figure!) and also so I’m in better shape to have a baby, as we are TTC at the moment.

Well, I’m currently pregnant (due in Dec) and am working on an inspiration board and a plan to drop these baby lbs!! A BodyMedia armband would help me stay focused throughout the day. P.S. your blog has been great inspiration already and with some hard work, I know I can get that pre-baby body back. Crossing fingers. Thanks for what you do. Keep up the great work…

At age 47 and three children later have decided to make “ME” a priority again. Have started working out and trying to eat healthy. I have 100 lbs to lose and want to do it the proper way so it doesn’t come back! lol

My goal is to get back to running and improve my overall health since having a baby. I had started running before I got pregnant and was working on increasing my speed and distance. Since my son was born I’ve been working on getting back in shape, but haven’t gotten back to where I previously was. I’ve always wanted something to track my activity through the day to see where I could improve my activity level and to see how much I’m actually moving just chasing after a baby!

  15. Diana on October 4, 2012 at 2:02 pm

    I’d love to lose 10lbs in 2 months. ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Kristin on October 4, 2012 at 2:02 pm

My fitness goal is to run a 7 mile off-road race at the end of November. It’s the largest one in the country and so much fun!

  17. Victoria on October 4, 2012 at 2:02 pm

My current fitness goal is to get to a place where I am happy with my body. I used to be obsessed with numbers – namely monitoring my progress on the scale. After a while, I found that even though my numbers were down, I felt unhappy looking in the mirror. In the past few months, I have been setting goals, even numeral ones, but have been trying to focus on how I feel when I eat healthy or work out, and I have found that balance is the key!

My wedding is in about a year and a half (to a former military man, I might add) and I would like to look back at my pictures and know that I was happy not just with him, but with myself on the most important day of our lives. My fiancee has helped tremendously, by showing me the strength and self confidence that comes along with a balanced lifestyle. Even since he’s been out of the service, he has retained the mentality that you’re only one workout away from a good mood, and he’s slowly teaching me to realize the same!

ps. already a fan on FB!

My current fitness goals are to increase activity from two walks a day with my dog to also 3 workouts a week including yoga. Since I moved, got a dog and became even more bored with my job I have let my goals slip to the side but no more!!

    Thanks for this opportunity!

  24. Bonnie on October 4, 2012 at 2:04 pm

My current goal is to run a race. Running is just about the only activity I don’t do/haven’t tried, but I have a competitive streak and thought a race might be a good way to channel that and use it for motivation.

  25. Lisa on October 4, 2012 at 2:04 pm

Wow-that looks so cool!! 1st I like you on FB already:) 2nd…My fitness goal, as a busy wife/mom of twins who works part time, is to take off and keep off the 10 lbs I gained since I quit semi-tracking my calories, etc a year ago(after I’d lost said 10 lbs by working with a trainer, as he held me accountable for my diet).I still work out 2-3x a week, but no more $ for trainer right now…so I think this device would help b/c seeing it all in a graph seems to make a lost of sense:) Thanks for being so inpiring with you recipes and your music and your pix and your fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

My goal is to lose the weight I have gained over the past two years with my awful eating habits. I am tracking my eating, trying to eat cleaner, limit eating out and soda to once a week, and exercise three times a week. I would love to win the CORE armband because I always struggle with the amount of calories I burn vs. consume.

  29. Amanda on October 4, 2012 at 2:05 pm

My current fitness goal is to build muscle while shedding fat. I wanna be ripped! I plan to accomplish this by doing two-a-days this month: cardio in the morning, weights in the evening, working out 6 days per week, and eating clean foods to the tune of about 1800 cals/day. I also just like you on Facebook!

I guess my biggest “fitness” goal at the moment is to survive the birth of our daughter in a few weeks! (That counts, right?)

  47. Laura McManus on October 4, 2012 at 2:15 pm

Hello! First I think your blog is very inspiring. My current fitness goal is to find my place in the fitnessworld after competing. I loved the experience of the competition but long term is not my place. I am trying to find a balance with measuring food, macros, etc and my intense workouts with transitioning back to being a “normal” fit individual! Hopefully once I find that comfort zone my husband and I can think about cute little ones like Livy!

  48. Shanna on October 4, 2012 at 2:16 pm

My goal is to become stronger!

  49. Stephanie on October 4, 2012 at 2:17 pm
