Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED
I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.
Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:
and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.
A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.
I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย
The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.
It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:
A BodyMedia Fit device.
So what is it?
A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.
Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:
You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).
Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.
BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)
or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).
This giveaway has ended!
Congratulations to the lucky winner:
(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)
Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)
Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐
Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.
xoxo

It’s TABATA THURSDAY!ย Pick your favorite 4 minutes of cardio justice here, and check out the October calendar for more workout ideas.
Also I’m a fan of Facebook ๐
My fitness goal is to get into weight training. I am a cardio machine but weights scare me! Great giveaway!
I would like to be less squishy haha. I am a long distance runner and only run, so I’d like to do strength training and yoga to help become a bit leaner.
My biggest fitness goal is to finally hit my goal weight (and I would love to do it before my 35th birthday). I am currently 15-17 lbs away and about 2 1/2 months away from my bday. For the next three weeks I am doing the Beachbody Ultimate Reset and will miss my workouts (you aren’t allowed to do anything but walking and stretching/yoga). But come the end of the month, I will be back full force with Turbo Fire and Pump!!! Gotta continue building that lean muscle too ๐
Already a fan on FB! ๐
I want to be able to do 20 “man” pushups. And if I could ever do a pullup, even one, I would be ecstatic.
Have been on fb for quite some time ๐
Sorry…fan on fb.
Do an Olympic-distance triathlon! I did a sprint a few weeks ago without really training, and I’m planning to train over the next few months to kick off the spring season with a longer race.
My fitness goal is to complete my first half marathon in Jan! Awesome giveaway!
Huge fan BTW!
I’m a facebook fan! I am trying to increase my lean muscle mass also.. I’m eating more to hopefully build up that muscle. ๐ I love weights
My goal is to lean up and be able to do (at least) 1 pull up and 1 chin up!
My fitness goal is to get to a healthy BMI. Now that I’m in my mid-20s, I’m realizing I don’t feel great anymore after a night full of pizza and cupcakes, so I got to clean it up to keep feeling strong ๐
My fitness goals is to lose 30lbs to be able to feel better and breath better. I have a heart condition that is requiring me to lose as much weight as possible. Winning this gadget would really help motivate me.
Thank you.
Sandra
oh, and i am a fan on fb!
Oooh fun!! I just returned from 3 months of backpacking through Europe and my current fitness goal is simply to get back into exercising on a regular basis! When you’re traveling, your main workout consists of walking miles upon miles everyday while sightseeing. I am SO excited to reactivate my gym membership and get back into weights/running/ellipticizing (spelling?) and more! I would love love love this to track how many calories I’m now burning daily and to start setting small health/fitness goals for myself to reach in the near future.
Omg, omg, omg, I have been dying to get one of these!
My goals right now is to put on muscle weight, to increase lean muscle mass. This would be amaaaaazing! (or amazeballs!)

My fitness goal is to lose the pile of weight I’ve gained in the last 5 or so years of inactivity and poor eating choices/emotional eating. I’ve hired a trainer so am using strength training and cardio to get it off for good (and I love working with her!). I’d love to win so I can get an accurate count of the calories I’m burning throughout the day and make sure my calories consumed are the right amount to keep losing.
Oh, and I am already a FB fan!! ๐
My fitness goal is to decrease my body fat percentage & reveal the abs I have!
Oh yeah – I’m a fan on FB!
also, I’m a fan on Facebook.
My fitness goal is to lose body fat and strengthen and tone my arms and core.
My current goal is to stay motivated! I’m definitely working towards building more lean muscle mass with Crossfit, but I want to have that new kick in the booty to make sure I’m hitting the weights hard every day. It’d be great to have a monitor to keep me aware that I am taking great care of my body in all aspects of food and exercise!
already like you on facebook!
My fitness goal is lose body fat
The goal I’m working on right now is stength and getting toned. I have stopped doing as much cardio and started more weights.
Hi! My current goals are to increase lean muscle mass while keeping in half marathon shape… I am doing one this month and then in March. Sometimes it feels counterintuitive, but at least it keeps it interesting!
My fitness goal is to master the art of the pull up/chin up . . . I think I have my work cut out for me!
Awesome giveaway!
Thanks – Mo
I’m a longtime reader and I ALWAYS look forward to your posts. My current fitness goal is to continue doing regular cardio and weight training as I’m 13 weeks pregnant. I gained 45+ pounds with my last baby and it took forever to take it off so I’d like to stay much more active this time around!
Thanks for the giveaway and I already LIKE you on facebook!
My current fitness goal is to qualify for the Boston Marathon! I am training for the Marine Corps Marathon on October 28th, which will be my fifth full marathon, and I’m hoping to finally hit that 3:30 goal time!!
My current fitness goal is to lose weight to set a healthy example for my daughter! Thanks for the giveaway!
I am a fan on Facebook!
My fitness goal is to eat healthy, I work out regularly but eating clean has been a bit of a challenge for me.
My current goal is to complete a ‘pb’ half marathon in Vegas on December 2. I am also strength training along with my running and this gadget could help me track my food and lose weight.
I just became a fan of you on Facebook!
My current fitness goal is to get through labor to deliver my first baby (who is currently 8 days past the due date…come on little one!!) =) After that, to regain my pre-baby cardio and weight lifting levels, which I have a positive outlook on since I was lucky enough to remain active throughout my pregnancy but it would be neat/fun to track stats with a device
I have had my eye on one of these for awhile now, I think they would really help me step it up! My current fitness goal is to lose the weight I gained after fracturing my hip last winter, about 20 lbs!
My current fitness goal is to maintain my recent 20 pound weight loss while starting a new phase of my career–and to improve muscle definition while doing it! I’ve been using a combo of weightlifting, running, and some Insanity videos but I’m hoping to add in more HIIT training as my schedule makes more demands on my time. Now I’m off to like your page on Facebook because I have seriously been interested in this particular gadget for a while!
My goal: get back into shape!
Fitnessista fan on Facebook! Say that 3x fast!!
My goal is to drop my body fat by 3%.
Loose the baby weight!
My fitness goal is to start practicing yoga at least once a week. ๐
I’m already a Fitnessista Facebook fan.
I’ve wanted one of these since I started Zumba and saw my friends using them with great results! I lost my weight on my own, but now I’m “skinny fat”. Thinner but so flabby and gross. I want to get toned and would LOVE to able to wear this and figure out what’s going on in my body now. Unfortunately, it’s not in our budget since the company that I work for had to close, but it’d be awesome!
Current goals are to get back into my routine (I sprained my ankle and started getting migraines in August every 4 days, finally figured it out but it really interfered with my plans to get my group exercise certification), increase my arm strength and increase ab strength (have diastasis recti from my 2nd pregnancy and have to constantly work my core and make sure I have proper form).
My current fitness goal is to stop eating so much refined sugar and to “go clean(er).”
My fitness goal is to start moving more, a lot more!
