Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED

I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.

Run

Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:

and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.

A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.

I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย

The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.

It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:

A BodyMedia Fit device.

So what is it?

A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.

Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:

Bodymedia

You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).

Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.

BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.

One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)

Wireless

or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).

Core

This giveaway has ended!

Congratulations to the lucky winner:

(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)

Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)

Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.

xoxo

Gina

This fall I’m trying to incorporate more strength training into my workouts- it’ll be an all-around benefit and help with some of my health troubles. I started adding a few strength exercises to each workout and have already seen a slight improvement in how I feel! I’d love to use this little gizmo to keep track of my progress ๐Ÿ™‚

This little gadget looks awesome though, I’d love to try it. Thanks for the giveaway ๐Ÿ™‚

  31. Katie on October 4, 2012 at 2:58 pm

My goal is to definitely decrease body fat. I’m not at all overweight, but I’m through two rounds of p90x and I KNOW my diet is preventing me from showing how muscular and strong I really have gotten.

  32. Tiffany Freeman on October 4, 2012 at 2:58 pm

  37. Amy @Macncheesenpeas on October 4, 2012 at 2:59 pm

My current fitness goal is to get better at yoga and finally be able to do the crane pose! I have been trying for a while and I still can’t get it!

  38. Cate on October 4, 2012 at 2:59 pm

My fitness goal is just to keep up some level of activity. I work wonky hours, and while I used to be a morning exerciser, I can’t do that anymore because it’s too dark outside and the gym isn’t open. So, I have to be extremely aware of where I am in my “day” when I work out and schedule it even more so than people who work “normal” hours.

  39. Kelster on October 4, 2012 at 3:00 pm

    I’m a Facebook fan!

  40. Emma S. on October 4, 2012 at 3:01 pm

My current fitness goal is to train up/increase strength and CV for ‘Tough Guy’ in January, an assault course here in the UK designed to emulate WW1 conditions and to push each person to their physical and mental limits (FRICK: http://vimeo.com/36682151# … eep).

I get nervous at times and keep wanting to give up, especially when my legs and back are burning, but then think of all the people who do things like this as a job. I’m also doing it to raise money for ‘Combat Stress’ ( a charity that helps soldiers/air force/navy that have suffered trauma or suffer from PTSD) so that element is keeping me on track!

    BRING ON THE COURSE(/wish me luck…!) ๐Ÿ™‚

  41. Emma S. on October 4, 2012 at 3:01 pm

Already ‘like’ and recommending you to all on Facebook too ๐Ÿ™‚

  42. Melodie on October 4, 2012 at 3:03 pm

My current fitness goal is to build a little muscle and at the same time, shed a little fat. And I’m trying to do it all at home, so that feels like a little bit of an extra challenge. But I’m working on it. And I’m not on FB, so this is all I’ve got. ๐Ÿ™‚

  43. Michelle on October 4, 2012 at 3:03 pm

My current fitness goal is to increase flexibility to prevent injury.

  44. Alicia @ Treble Tart on October 4, 2012 at 3:04 pm

  49. Michelle on October 4, 2012 at 3:08 pm

I am looking to tone up and increase my strength! I would love to have this device and use it to reach my goals! Recently, It has been hard for me to be successful with my fitness goals and I think this would give me the extra push that I need!

  50. Kari Lundquist on October 4, 2012 at 3:09 pm

Fitness Goal: become more accountable for myself. I am a fitness instructor as well and I want to lead by example. This would be a fantastic tool.
