Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED

I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.

Run

Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:

P39089BSource

and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.

A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.

I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย

The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.

It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:

A BodyMedia Fit device.

So what is it?

A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.

Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:

Bodymedia

You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).

Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.

BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.

One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)

Wireless

or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).

Core

This giveaway has ended!

Congratulations to the lucky winner:

(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)

Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)

Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.

xoxo

Gina

My fitness goal is to take control of my health. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in 2009 and it completely changed my body, my health, and my self-esteem. I am trying to regain at least a little of what I lost. I refuse to believe that this is it for my body. I’m starting slow: walking and eating healthier. I’m gluten free (I have to be), I cut out soda, eat red meat only on occasion and am now cutting out high fructose corn syrup(that stuff hides everywhere!). I would love to one day be able to do these things: join a softball/baseball team (for fun), squat down (my knees are trashed), and look in the mirror and be really proud that I fought my way back.

Your blog has been a huge help, and I already ‘liked’ you on Facebook. Any tool that could help me with my goal, would be amazing!

    Thanks for having this giveaway!

I’m in training for my first half marathon! My fitness goal is to not lose my strength now that my workouts are dominated by running.

    What an awesome giveaway!

    Hi Gina,

My current fitness goal is to get back into shape post baby! I was just cleared by my MD for exercise at my six-week checkup this week. I plan to alternate strength training and running. On today’s agenda is the Spooky Sweatfest workout! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks!!

My current fitness goal is to lose ~15 more pounds. I’ve lost about that and I’d like to keep it up. I started with measurements because sometimes it’s hard to see the difference and it’s crazy to see the inches I’ve lost already. It’s definitely encouragement to keep going.

  13. Steff on October 4, 2012 at 3:31 pm

I am trying to increase lean body mass, too–and I love your blog!

  14. Kristen on October 4, 2012 at 3:31 pm

My current fitness goals are to get my cardio endurance back up and to also keep working hard to rock out more than say….3 push-ups without dieing. Whyyyyy do I hate push-ups SO much?!? Seriously.

  15. Hannah O on October 4, 2012 at 3:31 pm

I’m in my sophomore year of college, so my main fitness goal is to continue to integrate eating well and exercising into a hectic schedule with school. Specifically, I am working on gaining lean muscle mass and losing excess body fat (not being afraid to pick up the weights!). Being surrounded general attitude of many college students sometimes it’s hard to remember why being healthy is so important. Blogs like yours help me stay on track and motivate me to push through plateau’s and slumps to achieve my personal fitness goals!

And thanks for the recipes that are easy to make in a microwave!! Those have been so helpful for living on campus.

My current fitness goal is just to work out consistently around the same time each day and strengthen my core.

  20. Emily on October 4, 2012 at 3:34 pm

My current fitness goal is to master double under jump ropes. My brain gets it, but my body doesn’t. It’s super frustrating, but it reminds me that I’m not perfect and helps me motivate toward improvement.

My fitness goal is to drop the last 15lbs…..I’d like to lower my body fat and increase lean muscle. I’ve been at a plateau lately and need to do something to change it up. I’ve also been loving your Tabata Thursday videos….can’t believe how much they make you sweat in 4mins!!! Insane….in a good way ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks!

My fitness goal is to get back into shape! Between starting a desk job, a family member’s serious car accident, and a severely sprained ankle, I’ve gained almost 30 lbs and lost most of my fitness ability over the past couple of years. Now that the ankle’s finally healed, I’m getting back into a routine, but it’s hard! I’d love something to help me track and keep me motivated!

  35. Kelley on October 4, 2012 at 3:43 pm

After reading blogs for 4 years, this is the first giveaway I have entered – so cool! My fitness goal is to get into wedding dress shape! A little over 3 months to go! ๐Ÿ™‚

Lose weight / increase muscle is my goal. I’ve been working on this for a long time but am not making a lot of headway. I’d love to be able to accurately chart calories burned and compare against the food calories I painstakingly weigh each day. I’m doing something wrong and would love, no — need the help!!

  37. Lindsay M. on October 4, 2012 at 3:44 pm

My current goal is to add a third strength training session into my routine each week to help increase lean mass and my weight!

  38. Liz S on October 4, 2012 at 3:44 pm

Hi Gina! My fitness goal is to lose some weight, build muscle, and create definition in my body. In the past several weeks, I’ve started taking group fitness classes at my local gym, which I have never done before in my life. Even though I work full time. I’ve built up to taking 6 classes per week, in addition to my own workouts on days when particular classes are not offered. It hasn’t been easy to balance such a hectic schedule with such long days, but I have dedicated myself to this fitness goal. I have already started to notice and see a difference.

I think this device would help me to further achieve my health and fitness goals! Plus, it would be fun to use.

I’m a new poster, but have been reading your blog for awhile. I’m already a fan on your Facebook page!
