Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED
I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.
Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:
and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.
A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.
I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย
The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.
It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:
A BodyMedia Fit device.
So what is it?
A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.
Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:
You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).
Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.
BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)
or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).
This giveaway has ended!
Congratulations to the lucky winner:
(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)
Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)
Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐
Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.
xoxo

It’s TABATA THURSDAY!ย Pick your favorite 4 minutes of cardio justice here, and check out the October calendar for more workout ideas.
And I am a facebook fan!!
My goal is to lose 30lbs! My focus is on eating CLEAN and keeping up on the workouts (exercise is already a daily habit…my struggle is with taking rest days).
I just “liked” you on facebook!
My current goal: improve my half-marathon time without injury. This means sticking to both my running workouts and some strength-training and cross-training!
My fitness goal is to stay healthy and fit during my pregnancy! It is my first one and am really excited but want to manage my weight and diet throughout! ๐ Love your blog!
My fitness goal is to lose 8-10 pounds (currently doing a body transformation challenge at my bootcamp gym) and learn how to eat foods i like, but mix it with healthier options. And I am liking you on facebook right after I post this!
My current fitness goal is to be more efficient and get the most out of my workouts. Since having a baby 6 months ago- making it to the gym is quite a challenge! I don’t get to go nearly as often as I would like to. When I do get the chance to go, my goal is to find the right combination of cardio/strength training to get me back into shape. Your HIIT workouts and Tabata Thursdays have been so helpful!
my fitness goals include making my running pace faster, and increase lean muscle by decreasing body fat. this is a great giveaway!!!

Oh I so want one of these. I am training to improve my muscle mass also, lose 10lbs and I’m training for the Warrior Dash. It’s Nov 10th and I can’t decide if I’m more excited or scared!
My fitness goal is to keep in shape to set a good example for my daughter.
My current fitness goal is to run a 1/2 marathon. I recently ran my first race (a 10k) & was so proud of myself because I was one of those people who thought that they could never be a runner. I now have the itch & am pushing myself to run a 1/2 in the spring. I have yet to share my goal with anyone but you – I also read about how you’re supposed to keep those personal goals to yourself, so shhhhhh! Don’t tell!
Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

My fitness goal is sculpt my booty! I am actually going to search through your workouts today and find one for tomorrow morning at the gym!
My current goal is to reduce my body weight by 17 pounds, which would have my weight starting with a 1 instead of a 2! This is a goal I am working on with my naturopath via diet, but I also love to workout and having the body media fit would mean I could look at where I need more rest and where I can improve.
And I liked you on facebook ๐
My current fitness goal is to fit into my skinny jeans from last winter! I saw this device on another blog and was really interested in it. I’d love to win it!

My current fitness goal is to tone and strengthen my upper body for my wedding next summer. I’ve found the perfect dress and now I want to incorporate strength training so I can show off some muscles in my pictures! ๐

My fitness goal is to drop one jean size. Even though I’m pretty consistent with my workouts my diet has not been the best this summer and I’ve been enjoying desserts a bit too much. I’m going to bump up my cardio intervals and increase my weights and hope that does the trick.
My fitness goal is to stay healthy and away from femoral head stress fractures this spring while I compete on my college’s track and field team!
And, I’m already a fan on Facebook.
My fitness goal is to finally lose the last ten pounds of baby weight!! This would help such much!
I have two fitness goals right now, to hit a PR On my next 15k, and to increase upper body strength!!!!!
I am also a fan on facebook. I am 6 months post partum, and my fitness goal is to get my flat abs back and run a 3rd half-marathon! I returned to pre-pregnancy weight upon birthing, but now I am very smooshy! Right now I am having a hard time with finding any time whatsoever to work on these goals because I am also a full-time working and pumping mama as a forensic DNA analyst. I suffer from insufficient glandular tissue and thus chronic low supply. My life revolves around doing everything I can to make as much milk as possible = no time to work out! I have been interested in these BodyMedia gadgets for years actually!

My October goal is PUSH UPS!!!! I plan on doing them every day, and so far have been successful! I am a beast at the “girly” ones, so my goal is to work up to as many “manly…?” push ups as I can by October 31. Knowing that I have to wear a Halloween costume that day isn’t bad motivation either….. ๐
My fitness goal is to lose some weight and run a faster 5k ๐
My fitness goal is running a 10k race! I’ve been training for a month now and will be running the race in 2 weeks. I’m so excited to accomplish my fitness goal so and to come up with new one!
