Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED
I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.
Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:
and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.
A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.
I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย
The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.
It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:
A BodyMedia Fit device.
So what is it?
A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.
Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:
You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).
Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.
BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)
or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).
This giveaway has ended!
Congratulations to the lucky winner:
(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)
Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)
Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐
Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.
xoxo

I’ve already met a major goal of mine (50lbs- GONE)… my next goal is to finish my first half-marathon (11/4)!!

My current goal is to lose 30 lbs!
I need a tool to keep myself honest about calorie intake vs burn. This sounds perfect!
What an awesome giveaway! My current fitness goal is to try something new. I’ve been doing the same cardio for months now and it’s time to switch it up. I’m thinking TRX and R.I.P.P.E.D. for this fall season.
My October fitness goal is to re-commit to myself. For a variety of reasons, I was only working out 3-4 days a week in late August and September, and a lot of those work outs were very high quality. I’m recommitting to 5-6 days/week and of better quality. Plus I’m trying to get back into running a do a 5K in early November! Thanks for the give away!
I’m starting a boot camp next week and my fitness goal is to follow through with it for the next 60 days.

My current goal is to lose the baby weight. You and Caitlin at HTP are making me feel like a slacker!
Being a new full-time working momma my current goal is to sweat every day!
Hi! I’m a new reader & fan who found her way here through baby food recipes on pinterest. Can’t tell you how much I love your blog…the baby recipes have been a total hit! Also, just went and liked your page on FB.
My fitness goal is to tone up. I’m back in my pre-baby clothes (she’s 9 months to the day) but I’ve given up on weight goals since I always gain weight when I start running.
This looks awesome!! My fitness goal is to simply make exercise part of my permanent lifestyle. I find that my activity level goes in spurts…I will go 5 or 6 weeks exercising about 5 times per week and feel AWESOME and then will go a month onl exercising once in a blue moon adn get down on myself. Hence, starting the process all over again! I need to make healthy living a priority in order to be the best me i can be!
My goal is to lose about 5 pounds, tighten up the core, and slim the thighs!
Get back into running shape…. And lose 25 pounds along the way!
Since I just started a new job and am getting home from work exhausted my current goal is to make sure I hit the gym, even if I don’t feel like it.
My goal – to be consistent. My gym had huge instructor turnover, and I don’t like the replacements, so I find it hard to find the motivation to go and stick to it.
My fitness goal is to love and appreicate my body NOW, not after I’ve lost blank number of pounds, not at x size, not when I’ve reached my mind’s image of perfection (which is undoubtedly squed). I love fitness, I work hard to keep myself healthy, but I was so preoccupied with what I saw, or didn’t see in the mirror that I lost track of the “why” – my fitness goal has a whole new why. My baby girl!! My goal is to love that I am healthy, love that I am strong, and embrace the fact that my “perfect” body may not actually exist, so instead focus my thoughts on being a good example to my baby girl with good food choices, and enjoying my active body now.
My goal is to increase the amount of times I hit the gym each week. I have been VERY inconsistent lately and that has to stop!
To tone up and develop lean muscle mass. This would be great tool to use to see how many calories I’m actually burning and to keep me on track with how much I should be consuming as well.
I like you on FB!
Also, a fan on facebook… ๐
I want to continue to very gradually increase my running distances to avoid injury and to reduce the amount of sugar in my diet. I’ve have looked at these devices, but have not taken the plunge to buy one yet!
My current fitness goal is the opposite of most. I am looking to increase my BMI so need to tone down my workout intensity and cardio sessions. My new goal is to increase my yoga practice ๐
