Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED

I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.

Run

Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:

P39089BSource

and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.

A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.

I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย

The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.

It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:

A BodyMedia Fit device.

So what is it?

A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.

Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:

Bodymedia

You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).

Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.

BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.

One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)

Wireless

or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).

Core

This giveaway has ended!

Congratulations to the lucky winner:

(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)

Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)

Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.

xoxo

My fitness goal is to gain some healthy weight and build muscle in my arms. Recently I’ve been struggling with my weight. I actually lost too much and am working to get that muscle tone back. Day by day my legs are looking more full but I am still struggling with my arms and shoulders. I want to look toned and in shape, not skinny and bony! Your arm burners have really been helping, and I would absolutely love to test this arm band out! ๐Ÿ™‚

My current goal is to eat healthier. I tend to grab a sandwich or a salad on the run. But your blog has helped to inspire me that making healthy food at home isn’t that hard and doesn’t take a ton of time! I hope this will help me lose a couple of extra pounds I’m carrying with me on my runs!

  21. Danielle on October 4, 2012 at 5:57 pm

I am not sure if this counts, but I would like to win this for my dad. We found out a few months ago that he secretly underwent a stenting procedure to open severe blockages in his heart and did not tell any of his 5 children. He is overweight and has been a smoker for over 30 years. Needless to say, he some habits to change, but he really is putting forth the effort. He and my mom have been going on evening walks and he has cut back his smoking and consumption of fatty foods.

I read about BodyMedia a few months ago and contemplated getting him one as a gift, but the price was a little too high. I know this would help my dad acheive his health and fitness goals, as the world of exercise and calorie counting is totally foreign to him.

    Great giveaway!

Mine is to find a better balance between work, exercise & my responsibilities.

  31. Katie on October 4, 2012 at 6:03 pm

My fitness goal is to get back into the swing of things. I’m a teacher, so with this past summer off I was hardcore with my workouts. What teacher gets up at 7am on summer mornings to go to spin class? Now that I’m back to work (and suffering through a new LONG commute to and from) I sometimes use my job as an excuse that I don’t have time… Yet when my student-athletes complain they have too much on their plate, I fire back with a lecture about the importance of balance and always making time for your health, both physical AND mental. Talk about eating me own words. And by my own words I mean a big slice of delivery pizza because I also make the excuse that I also don’t have time to cook healthy meals.

Anyway, Stella (Katie) will get her groove back!

    P.S. I LOVE YOUR WEBSITE!
