Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED
I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.
Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:
and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.
A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.
I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย
The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.
It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:
A BodyMedia Fit device.
So what is it?
A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.
Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:
You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).
Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.
BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)
or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).
This giveaway has ended!
Congratulations to the lucky winner:
(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)
Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)
Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐
Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.
xoxo

It’s TABATA THURSDAY!ย Pick your favorite 4 minutes of cardio justice here, and check out the October calendar for more workout ideas.
My current fitness goal is to lose 15 lbs and complete a sprint tri!
Current fitness goal: keep pushing myself during cardio at the gym. it sounds lame but i am a new graduate adjusting to the 9-5 life and i have been shocked at how hard it is to stay motivated after an 8 hour+ day! I am doing my best and trying to stay positive!!
Facebook fan I am!
My goal is to lose those last 5 lbs, they are the hardest:(
Already liked Fitnessista on fb.
Fitness goals: increased muscle defination in legs & core, strengthen core & back, work on balance and increased cardio!
My current fitness goal is kind of crazy, only because I am not a runner. However, on my bucket list I have run a half marathon. I am not a strong runner but have always wanted to be…soo my current fitness goal is to run the Disney Half Marathon after I graduate from college. I feel it will be a great start to a new chapter in my life along with crossing something off my bucket list. I have been training for 4 weeks and surprisingly I am not getting bored or uninterested because it is a true goal of mine!
Also…I got the idea of the Disney Half from your blog so THANK YOU for the inspiration.
My fitness goal used to revolve around weight. I have adjusted them I want to be able to do an 8-10 mile run by my birthday (Nov 15) and I want my kipping and strict pull ups at crossfit :), also I’m already a fb subscriber!
My goal is fat loss… about 15 pounds to go and this would really help!
and I already like you on FB ๐
My fitness goal, after I get over mono, is to lose the last few “baby pounds” and tone up my muscles!
My fitness goal is to train and complete my second half marathon in the spring!
My fitness goals include returning to my formerly leaner and healthier state and get to a fitness level that I feel comfortable running my first 10k!
My current fitness goal is to get moving and find a working plan, which NEEDS to include running. =) (I’m hoping to do my first half-marathon next year!)
Being a full-time college student, who is also juggling a part-time job, PLUS my boyfriends, family and friends, it is hard to find the balance. Right now, its a matter of finding the time of day and the workouts. Sometimes hanging out with the friends you love is more important than the workout on some days.
My current fitness goal is to get more toned. I love to lift but my current schedule pretty much requires me to be up at 4:45 every morning in order to get my workout in. Needless to say, sleep wins more than I would like!
I am a facebook fan.
I already “like” the Facebook page!
Current goal — ditch the pre-baby weight! I already shed the pregnancy pounds, but I had gained about 15 pounds in the year before getting pregnant. Gotta ditch them again! I go back to work in about 7 weeks, so I’m hoping for 2lbs/week…but not sure how feasable that is with breastfeeding. Doesn’t have to happen before then, though, I’m really not in a huge rush. My priority is my sweet Clementine!!
I already like you on FB but I’ll comment! ๐
My fitness goal is to continue to decrease my body fat percentage by building lean muscle.
Menopause has made me look like a square with arms and legs:( My old fitness plan is not working so I need a new fitness goal.
My current fitness goal is to continue to do my physical therapy for 2-3 hours 5-6 days a week. I know this may seem like a small goal for many compared to others, but I have been recovering from an injury since May and still have a long way to go. I am finally walking okay again and a device like this would help me better track my calorie burn without the assistance of cardio other than biking.
I would love to try this little gadget out!
My current fitness goal right now is to gain muscle and get lean. I’ve been doing a lot of cardio/running and have started to really up my weight sessions to “get buff” as I like to call it haha
My fitness goal is to lose those last 10 pounds!
and I like you. ๐ oh right, on facebook ๐
My current fitness goals are to increase my Spinning endurance and my running pace.
My current fitness goal is to be mindful of making my exercise time as high quality as possible, so that I can do the same with my down time. I get the occasional pang of guilt when I take more than one day off per week, but if I can measure my workouts with accuracy I can better relax and learn to enjoy time for myself.
I am already a fan on Facebook! ๐
I’d love to win. My current goal is to lose about 20 lbs and I’d love to use this as a tool to see what I’m actually burning.
Lose 5-8 lbs before my wedding on 111/3! ๐
My current fitness goal is to start making fitness a priority again! 2 weeks ago, I got extremely busy in school ( I am currently in university ) and as a result, I didn’t work out as much as I would have liked. I need to start scheduling in dates with the gym.. Working out should be a priority!
Also – I “liked” the fitnessista on Facebook, I follow you on twitter, Instagram and Pinterest, too! Haha
My goal is to improve my core and upper body strength. Today is day one of my “plank a day challenge” and I hope to work up to 5 minutes!
I am already a fan on Facebook!
My current fitness goal is to get back into shape after having a baby!
My current fitness goal is to increase my endurance and begin training for my first marathon.
My fitness goal is to sign up for a marathon and to add more yoga in my fitness routines!
My current fitness goal is to work in more strength training! As a swimmer, I always had a nice mix of strength and cardio training, but now that I’m done with college I’ve been a little too cardio-heavy in my workouts. I want to improve my strength, mostly getting my back and upper body muscles back up!
And I’m already a fan ๐
My current fitness goal is to start training for the Pasadena Triathlon in 2013! Last year I did the 5k, this year the duathlon, next year the whole darn thing!
My current fitness goal is finding the perfect fitness/nutrition balance for me. I have always struggled with knowing how many calories to eat while working out 5-6 days a week but it’s helped having the Polar HRM. I now know approximately how many calories I burn/need- I just need to focus on fueling correctly, and listening to my body ๐
My fitness goal is to increase strength. I’ve been doing CrossFit for 3 years and would love to build lean mass to get stronger.
I’m in the hunt for some well defined arms.
To run my first ultra (50 miles) next year!
My current fitness goal is to get back into running shape after recovering from an injury.

my fitness goal never changes: lose 5lbs.
My current goal is to incorporate more negative splits into my long runs. I want to speed up, and I need to start by having something left at the end of runs!
My fitness goals between now and Christmas:
Cardio- 4x week
weight training- 3x week
Plus TRACK food daily and eat cleaner!
I’m 13 days into my current fitness goal – which is to shed about 10 lbs, and overall tone up! I’m a “home-body” meaning, I’ve been working out to fitness DVD’s at home (for the first time in my life), but I feel empowered. And I hope it works!
My fitness goal is to run my Thanksgiving 5k without walking!
