Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED
I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.
Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:
and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.
A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.
I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย
The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.
It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:
A BodyMedia Fit device.
So what is it?
A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.
Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:
You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).
Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.
BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)
or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).
This giveaway has ended!
Congratulations to the lucky winner:
(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)
Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)
Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐
Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.
xoxo

I had my precious baby girl 2 weeks ago, and now my fitness goal is getting back to fit!! I kept my weight gain pretty average throughout pregnancy so I’m hopeful that losing the rest of the baby weight wont take TOO long. but like you, my first priority is being the best mother i can be, and weight loss will come after. I would love to have one of these gadgets to make it easier for me, (tracking my goals FOR ME while i’m pumping, cooking, playing on the tummytime mat, etc.?? yes pleasseee) time is of the essence these days! lol
I will run my 2nd half this weekend. The last one was almost 10 years ago. I want to finish under 2 hours.
My fitness goal: strengthen my core! time to get to work! ๐

My current goal is to have patience, and respect for my body while it recovers from a nasty hip-flexor injury, while still staying as active as possible. This device would be great to help me stay on track!
Mine is also to increase muscle mass. I do not have a myscar build so I have to work very hard for definition.
My fitness goal is to get in shape before I get pregnant. I want to be fit a momma ๐

Doing something for me. I just turned 40 last week, and well feel like I am in a rut. I have been taking care of others, and letting myself just be on the sidelines. I want to make this start of a new decade one that I am physically more fit, and emotionally happier. I know getting those endorphins going, and having a way to monitor progress would help. Thanks Gina!

Hi Gina-
My current goal is to lose eat clean and lose 10 pounds before February and complete a half marathon. I have lost 30 pounds so far but still am “overweight” and would like to have a “normal” BMI! I lost my polar HR monitor watch :((( so this thing would be great for me!!!
Oh, and I am already a loyal FB follower ๐
My goal is to start working out in the morning again. I used to wake up at 5am every morning to get it done, but the last few months I’ve let it slip.
My current fitness goal is to survive marathon season and then get into more cross-training!
My current fitness goal is to lose 15-20 pounds by January/February 2013. I’m not fat, but I’m short so any extra weight shows easily on me. I’d love to lose fat and increase my muscle tone.. mainly for me to feel good, but also so I look fab at my June wedding and on the subsequent Hawaii honeymoon ๐
And I like you on fbook!
My current fitness goal is to wake up and work out 3 days a week before work. It’s tough, but it sets the tone for my day and I always feel so much better all day long after a great workout!
My fitness goal includes trying to loose the last ten pounds. I would like to build lean muscles but not add weight. I also have a few runs scheduled and would like to shed that extra weight while training.
Oh wow, what an amazing giveaway!! My current fitness goal, like you, is to increase lean muscle mass. I’ve already decrease the amount of weight I need to support me on the assisted pull-up machine from about 25% to 8% of my body weight, so soon I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to do them completely unassisted! I haven’t been on a body composition scale in a while but I already know my arms are a lot stronger than they were a couple of months ago!
I just had a baby in March and my husband will be home from deployment soon so I’m hoping to get back into my pre-pregnancy fitness level! I have a few running goals for this winter and some strength training goals I need to meet! This would help me oh.so.much!!
My fitness goal this month is to train smartly for my first 5K race in November!
I’m already a fan on Facebook!
Oh definitely my fitness goal is to lose the inner thigh chub rub!!
My fitness goal is the same as yours! My tool of choice is crossfit ๐
AND since I already like you on FB, here is my extra comment…my OTHER fitness goal is to run 30 minutes straight on the treadmill!
Also, already a fan of yours on facebook!
I’m trying to increase my lean body mass as well. My goal is 2 weight workouts a week, minimum, preferably 3!!
I’m a fan on FB!!
i want to run a 5k!
Right now I’m training for my second half marathon, which is on October 21st, but I’m excited for when the training is over with…This winter I’m planning on adding more weight training and swimming into my exercise routine. Swimming is something that I haven’t done for a really really long time but I think it would be an awesome challenge that would definitely be rewarding!

I am 27 years old married and recently unemployed due to job cuts. I have never felt more lack of self confidence. I have felt so lethargic and depressed lately after being home for more than a month and finally took a look in the mirror and made a commitment to myself to not only fix the outside but the inside as well. So I re-started a blog for friends and family to keep up on my journey and am on a mission to get back to my pre-meeting husband sexy weight! ๐
Current fitness goal is to just overall toning up.

My current fitness goal is to lose about ten pounds my body won’t let go of!
My fitness goal is to run 4 days a week and do strength training 2 days a week.
My fitness goal is to get some motivation. I get all motivated one day and the next day I’m sitting around eating bon-bons. I try to track my calories and exercise and it is the only thing that helps me lose weight and the minute I stop, it goes back on. I think this would be a great tool in helping me figure this thing out!
I’m currently in nursing school and will be working my way on up to advance nursing in the future. My career and my life will solely depend on improving the health of other individuals. I also believe that as any healthcare worker, you should definitely practice what you preach. I’ve always been told that “healthcare workers do the most damage to themselves,” or in some fashion of that. I try my best each and everyday to practice what I will soon have to tell my patients, which is the benefits of exercise and diet. My goal is to continue the path of a healthy lifestyle, regardless of how busy things may get and I think this device would definitely keep me accountable for those actions. I want to constantly keep improving my body and further my goals of improving my 5k times and eventually ONE day run a half marathon (hopefully :] )
I am already following and a friend of your facebook page! ๐
My goal is to lose body fat. I am currently happy with my muscle tone, but I have a little excess body fat that I would like to shed.
