Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED
I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.
Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:
and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.
A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.
I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย
The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.
It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:
A BodyMedia Fit device.
So what is it?
A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.
Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:
You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).
Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.
BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)
or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).
This giveaway has ended!
Congratulations to the lucky winner:
(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)
Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)
Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐
Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.
xoxo
Gina

I am a fan in Facebook:)
I’m a facebook fan!
My current goal is to get back in 10k-shape for a race next month!
I have been interested in using one of those devices for awhile now! Having recently moved (with no prospective apartment or job) my life has been flipped upside down! My exercise routine has been put on the back burner so now I am trying to get back into shape! I want to strengthen up and build up my running endurance again!
My fitness goal is to increase my running milage for a half marathon.
I’m a fan on Facebook!
I am trying to get through P90x w/the help of a few girl friends!
1) Not to be skinny-fat…ie, I want muscles ๐ 2) Increased energy!
My current fitness goal is to lose 50 lbs by next spring. I also want to run twice per week for the next couple of weeks.
My goal is to get speedier in distance running. I’d like to qualify for Boston this year by running a sub 3:35 marathon, as well as PR in the half by running sub 1:40
Already a fan on Facebook.
I’m also already a fan on Facebook ๐
I want to decrease body fat and increase my energy to chase my 2 year old around.
My current fitness goal is to build some upper body strength and do an unassisted pull-up!
I already like the fitnessista on face book.
My current fitness goal is to get back to fitting fitness into my busy life. Healthy eating is, by now, force of habit, but exercise just somehow never got completely off the ‘optional’ list.
I just liked you on Facebook!
Trying to lose the last 15lbs of left over pregnancy weight. Strengthen my arms shoulders and back, I’m also a fan on facebook.
My goal is to try a new style of fitness. Not sure which one yet. ๐
To finally be confident in my swimsuit regardless of the number on the scale. Sometimes what is healthy isn’t the number you want to see on the scale.
I would say my current fitness goal is to get away from my long time misconception that I need constant cardio. I definitely need to focus more on weight training!
My current fitness goal is to lose some more weight. I did a great job losing 50 lbs while in college. I’ve now hit a plateau. I would like to do more half marathons and try some longer triathlons and even a marathon but I know I need to lose more weight before doing it.
My fitness goal is to run a 5k without any walking breaks.
I’m currently training for my third half marathon and trying to lose my last 10-15 stubborn pounds!
Toning up! I’m happy with my current weight, I’m just looking to tighten things up. Oh! And training for the army ten-miler!
I like you on Facebook.

My goal is to actually commit to a sustainable exercise program and eventually lose 15 pounds the healthy way! Off to go ‘like’ you on Facebook ๐
Current Goal – lose the last 10lbs and reduce body fat by doing more weight training
My fitness goal is twofold: run a half-marathon in under 2 hours and do 20 (real) pushups without dying!
My fitness goal is getting 3-4 quality workouts in every week… having a toddler at home and being 20 weeks pregnant makes that difficult sometimes.
My fitness goal is to lose the stress weight I’ve gained from going back to school!
I already like you on Facebook ๐
I’m a facebook fan!
Mine is to get back to distance running after having dealt with injury.
I would love to win. Currently I am focused on losing 10 pounds that I have gained this past year.
I follow you on Facebook.
I’m a fb fan too.
My ultimate fitness goal is to lose 50 more pounds, but right now I’m focusing on eating the right foods and right calories to match my lifestyle and fitness. Plus I’m working really hard to reach my 25/5 laps to qualify for my roller derby league!
My focus is more of a balance of strength and cardio. It’s super easy for me to lace up my running shoes and head out the door, but I have much less patience for strength even though I know it’s good for me. ๐ Some girls I teach with and I have started to do some strength training videos after school a couple of nights a week. The motivation to laugh with them while doing it has been what I needed!
I follow you on facebook too! ๐
My goal is to build more muscle and become more defined by the end of the year. I do crossfit 3 times a week and cross train on the fourth.
My goal is run exclusively in minimal shoes!
Trying to lose 30lbs, also known as baby weight:). I have not been able to reach my goal and now this is baby #4…I WILL reach it this time and this gadget would help! First month of p90x down…2more to go.
My ultimate fitness goal is to lose the last 10 pounds! I know I can do it. I am also currently training for a 10k.
My fitness goal is after I have my healthy baby girl (due November 9!!) I get my bootie in shape for summer time and my 29th birthday next August!! I want some kick a$$ muscle definition ๐
My main goal right now is to learn. I’m new to fitness and I’m trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t for me. I love reading the blog asks it has given me so many new ideas for cleaning up my eats and building muscle and working on my cardio. I love it ๐ thanks Gina!

My goal is to tone up for my June 2013 wedding! I would like to lose about 5-7 pounds of fat and tone my problem areas. ๐
Right now I’m getting ready to run the Marine Corps Marathon, my goal is to finish! After that my goal is to do an unassisted pull-up.
