Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED
I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.
Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:
and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.
A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.
I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย
The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.
It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:
A BodyMedia Fit device.
So what is it?
A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.
Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:
You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).
Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.
BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)
or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).
This giveaway has ended!
Congratulations to the lucky winner:
(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)
Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)
Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐
Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.
xoxo

I have the same goal: increase lean muscle, and I’ll add that I’d like to diminish my tummy pooch a bit. That’s not easy, as it’s genetics and diet mostly, but I’m trying! This would be a fun piece to use as I teach at a university, so it’s a mix of standing and being active, and then sitting and grading (blerg).

My current goal is to give my soon-to-be born daughter the best nutrition I can. Once she is born and I am cleared to workout again, I’d LOVE to get back into my wedding day shape. Hi, I have been reading your blog for years now, though I have never commented. You inspire me to continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle despite all the curve balls life tends to throw at us and for that I think its about time I THANK YOU!! My current fitness goal is simple yet more challenging than its ever been in all my 24(aka34) years…. I have been diligent in my efforts for healthy eating and physical fitness for almost 10 years now (lets just say, my family is full of the chubby gene.) I LOVE running although I have never really been “good” at it. While it has never come easily for me, I have always secretly dreamed of being good at it . Lifting on the other hand is a different story – I have to say I am most proud of my GUNS ๐ Anywho – Last year I had spinal fusion/decompression surgery that left me with 12 pieces of metal in my L4. It happened to be right around the time I “peaked” with my running (talk about crappy timing.) It took me 6 months of intense therapy to be able to even “jog” a mile again. It was the hardest 6 months EVER, emotionally and physically and I would often find myself just walking the track at the gym with my hat on watching everyone else on the treadmill with tears streaming down my eyes (dork). I am still in pain on a daily basis and have lost a lot of my range of motion – but I REFUSE to give up running and being physically fit. I have to admit, its been an uphill battle. Reading your blog daily has helped immensely! My current fitness goal is to rise above the negative/sad/poor me thoughts in my brain and to continue to work towards strengthening my body and MIND so that I can one day wake up, laugh at the elliptical on my way to the treadmill, and run – with no pain (then run some more.) Until then, I have to remind myself to push hard and find other types of activities that foster healthy weight maintenance and strength building. Thank you for bringing this little gadget to my attention! it really caught my eye and think it would be an awesome little gadget to hook up with because it would prove to me/remind me that even though I am not running 6 miles in one shot, I am still tearing it up on a daily basis! Sorry for such a long ramble, I had no intention to write a novel??!! – PLEASE KEEP BLOGGING! All the best to you and your beautiful family, Tammy ๐
My current goal is to lose 15 pounds, but with the added challenge of being in medical school at the same time. I literally have NO extra time to work out with our hours reaching 80 hours of work/week, so it’s exhausting and frustrating at the same time. You are trying to help others get healthy while letting your own health dwindle away. I refuse to let that happen and I really think that a BodyMedia arm band is perfect for someone in my situation. I love your blog, and thanks for doing all that you do!
My goal is to run my first half marathon. Up Neil recently, I couldn’t even run own the street. Now I am up to 7 miles & loving how strong I feel!
Liked on Facebook! (Can’t believe I hadn’t already!)
WHat a great giveaway!! I would love to try this – I have heard only great things about it! ๐
