Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED
I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.
Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:
and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.
A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.
I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย
The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.
It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:
A BodyMedia Fit device.
So what is it?
A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.
Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:
You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).
Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.
BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)
or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).
This giveaway has ended!
Congratulations to the lucky winner:
(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)
Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)
Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐
Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.
xoxo

My current fitness goal is to stay motivated
I am so tired of going up and down, gaining and losing. Am really ready to find my happy size and stay there! Also, would love to get into some type of martial arts!
My goal is to lose these last 10 lbs. that just won’t seem to come off. I just finished my first 1/2 marathon and I am hooked! There will definately be more in my future!
I am looking to increase my strength as well!

My fitness goal is to try to increase my running endurance! I am good at sprints but I have difficult maintaining stamina.

I’m working on my lean muscle mass. I want to be toned and lean and strong!! I’m going through yoga teacher training right now so that’s my current goal ๐
My current goal is to lose 10-15 pounds. I also want to focus more on strength training. I put it on the back burner when I was training for my 10k two weeks ago.
Continue to lose body fat, not dividing on the scale and build strength.
My current fitness goals are to increase my cardio to boost weight loss, and to improve my sleeping habits and strive for 6-7 hours of sleep nightly.
My fitness goal is to get stronger all over and not just rely solely on cardio.
My fitness goal is to complete NROLFW!
My goal is to run 3 half marathons in 3 months…just finished my first one 2 weeks ago in 1 hour 48 minutes! Then it is onto my first marathon in March 2013????

My goal is to lose weight and get in shape. Cliche, I know, but it’s time to really commit and accomplish this goal!
My husband deployed to Afghanistan 2 years ago and to keep myself sane I really got into fitness and running. I was really proud of myself because I was able to get my vim from obese to the normal range! My husband and I wanted to train together to run our first half marathons, but I got pregnant the month he came home! Since my training was put on hold, I’m now ready to start again.
*bmi not vim ๐

I recently had a BodPod assessment done, and my bodyfat percentage was 31%. That was 6 weeks ago and when I was reassessed last week, I’ve lost 5 lbs of bodyfat, which is awesome! I would use the BodyMedia armband to help with the next 5 lbs.
Thanks Gina, for this amazing blog – I love it! ๐
I want to finish losing the baby fat and get stronger and leaner than ever!
My goal is to go further than I think I can. So often, in yoga class for instance, the teacher will push me deeper into a pose and I discover that I was holding back. It makes me wonder, in what other aspects am i holding back? So excited to find out!
My goal is to lose this excess fat but to stay muscular and healthy at the same time
I love you on Facebook ;D
hmmmmm. my main fitness goal, for something like this, would be to actually see how many calories i use on a given day. i understand the different formulas and calculations, but since i think i did some damage to my metabolism when i was younger, i always wonder. i considered getting a different monitor like this. they seem so fascinating!
overall goal, like i’m sure a thousand other comments, would be to lose my last few pounds. i’ve been up and down for months, and i’m getting a bit sick of it. i’m ready to stay at a happy weight forever.
My goal is to continue towards my weight loss goal. I have lost 27 pounds so far this year, but it has been quite the struggle. With my insane work schedule as a PhD student, even sleep is a privilege. Making health a priority has really changed my life!
To build more lean muscle mass also! I need to be hitting the weights more. And also training for my race in a month.
My fitness goal is lean muscle mass and strength!

my current fitness goal is to lose a few pounds of fat (while continuing to strength train), but to do this responsibly and slowly for lasting results– none of this crash diet stuff anymore!
I want to get more lean muscle too! My other goal is 5 pull ups and 50 “real” pushups.
My goal is to lose 40lbs and look good in my clothes.
I am a fan on FB!
my goal right now is to run a 5k under 22 minutes
My fitness goal this year is to do an honest-to-goodness real pull-up. It’s going to happen!
Consistently making it to the gym 5 times a week!
This device is perfect for me since I do keep track of the calories I consume, but I definitely have trouble with accurately counting the amount of calories I burn. I love the idea of this!
My current fitness goal is to just be consistent. I have a hard time making working out as much of a priority as other things, so I will sometimes go days or even weeks without working out and sometimes I will go every day. I just want to find and maintain a good, healthy balance!

I liked your page and left some of my story and my fitness goal as a comment under the status post!!! Crossing my fingers!!!!!
